Democrata Party

I moved a page you created, Demócrata Party, to Democrata Party. All sources cited in the article and in several articles that link to it refer to it as the "Democrata Party" or "Partido Democrata". I can't read Tagalog, so I'm not extremely confident about this, but this is what the sources seem to say.

Feel free to move it back to the original title :)

Streded (talk) 03:55, 9 January 2022 (UTC)

"Demócrata" is a Spanish language word. The two references I've been using do show it unaccented, but there are several others that did, such as [1] this one and one. I've came to believe that the sources that I used in the article didn't use it because Filipino names in the Spanish language are no longer accented, so they don't have to that either to similar names... I might suspect that the current usage is unaccented, but its contemporary usage was. Howard the Duck (talk) 07:39, 9 January 2022 (UTC)
Thanks for the quick response! I can only access the first source you linked to (the second link is to a file stored on your computer) but I see that the first one corroborates that. Should I revert my changes, then?
Sorry for the inconvenience, I would've asked you before doing anything if I thought you'd respond this quickly.
Streded (talk) 07:50, 9 January 2022 (UTC)
Gah. I think this is the second source. Howard the Duck (talk) 12:35, 9 January 2022 (UTC)
And this one doesn't use the acute accent either. Maybe you got the wrong one? Either way, I believe we have three options:
1) Decide to leave the page at the new title for the time being, and change everything that links to it to use the new name.
2) Move the page back to the original title, at least for now, and revert the other changes that I made based on that.
3) Leave everything as it currently is while you do more research on the proper name.
I'm leaning towards 1 if you don't have more sources that use the name with the accent, but I trust your judgement more than mine, so I'll wait for your response.
P.S. It seems that I have a hard time remembering to check your talk page, could you ping me when you respond? Thanks! Streded (talk) 14:31, 9 January 2022 (UTC)

The proper name contemporaneously is the accented one. The question is if modern day sources still use that. Howard the Duck (talk) 20:30, 9 January 2022 (UTC)

I see. Given that you haven't explicitly told me what to do and indicated that you'll keep thinking about it, I assume you pick option 3 and so I'll refrain from making further changes in favor of either accent or no accent until you tell me otherwise, OK? Streded (talk) 01:44, 10 January 2022 (UTC)
I'm undecided on this one, and originally picked the Spanglish name with the accents as that appeared to be the version used at that time... republishes/reprints of those sources eventually ditched the accents. This is a Wiki and it's better if this was decided via consensus. I suppose we'd have to pick one version though and stick with it. Howard the Duck (talk) 01:57, 10 January 2022 (UTC)
We can ask for a third opinion, but given that you're probably the editor with the most expertise on this topic, I think it might be better to wait on that until you reach a tentative conclusion.
If it matters, here's my opinion about this. If I understand you correctly, most English-language sources that you're aware of have ditched the accents. If the name were changed officially, WP:NAMECHANGES would clearly support using the new version. Given the rest of WP:UCRN, it seems to me that Wikipedia doesn't actually care what the official name is; if most sources used to spell it one way and now they spell it differently, we should follow the new spelling. As such, I think I'm in favor of using the accentless spelling and mentioning the other spelling in the first sentence as follows:
The Democrata Party, also known as Demócrata Party, was...
We can change the "also" to "contemporaneously" given that it's more precise, but it might be difficult for the reader to understand without further context. What do you think? Streded (talk) 02:55, 10 January 2022 (UTC)
The party does not exist any longer, so they cannot "officially" change their name now. What happened is that Spanish names in the Philippines, which includes personal names, which had accents had its accents dropped. The party existed when the accents were supposedly used. We do had move wars earlier on Filipino personal names because native Spanish speakers were dumbstruck on why names don't have accents, insisting theirs is the "correct" spelling. For example, you can probably still see Corazon Aquino spelled as "Corazón Aquino" here in Wikipedia. Howard the Duck (talk) 11:14, 10 January 2022 (UTC)

Seems like we do need someone else to weigh on this. Given that you participate in WT:TAMBAY, do you think asking there could give us additional perspective? If not, where do we ask? Streded (talk) 12:04, 10 January 2022 (UTC)

I guess you can do that, but the topic of "opposition parties against the Nacionalista Party during the early 20th century" isn't exactly everyone's cup of tea. Howard the Duck (talk) 12:07, 10 January 2022 (UTC)
That's what I figured. I think I'll just be BOLD and finish the post-move cleanup if you don't object. If you decide to object later you can of course change it back to the old name without asking me. Is that alright? I'm not asking you to endorse this name, just to not oppose it for now.
Another question: in a few election-related articles, the consolidated Nacionalista Party is called "Nacionalista Consolidato" rather than "Nacionalista Consolidado". This is a typo, right? Streded (talk) 13:18, 10 January 2022 (UTC)
It ends in dado. This source uses that. Howard the Duck (talk) 13:21, 10 January 2022 (UTC)
Also, that source, written in 2020, also uses the unaccented Democrata, but that was for another party. Howard the Duck (talk) 13:23, 10 January 2022 (UTC)

I think that's it, then. Thank you so much for your patience! Streded (talk) 13:27, 10 January 2022 (UTC)

YW. This topic is often neglected, and as you can see, can get very confusing, and I appreciate the attention to detail. Howard the Duck (talk) 13:28, 10 January 2022 (UTC)

Hello

Can I add tables for the different senate slates for 2022 Philippine Senate election? Is 1Sambayan the official coalition of Robredo-Pangilinan tandem or not? Is also the UniTeam the administration coalition or not? Thanks. NewManila2000 (talk) 15:32, 29 January 2022 (UTC)

Let's wait for the official announcements prior to 2/9. 1Sambayan isn't a political party so it shouldn't be there. Howard the Duck (talk) 18:28, 29 January 2022 (UTC)

Thank you. NewManila2000 (talk) 23:23, 29 January 2022 (UTC)

Since some candidates belong to multiple coalitions, can I remove the coalition section in Template:2022 Philippine Senate election results? Thanks. NewManila2000 (talk) 03:13, 10 February 2022 (UTC)

I dunno. Multiple coalition candidates were handled well in the 2019 template. This is also not the final composition of coalitions. Howard the Duck (talk) 07:21, 10 February 2022 (UTC)

Okay, thanks. NewManila2000 (talk) 07:44, 10 February 2022 (UTC)

Requesting help

Hi there Howard the Duck,

I'm reaching you to ask for help to fill in for Draft:List of representatives elected in the 2022 Philippine House of Representatives election, especially for congressional districts in Luzon. Anything you could do with the draft would be a huge help. Thanks!

Best regards, Xander Wu (talk) 04:33, 4 March 2022 (UTC)

Hello. I think we should wait until the actual election. For examole, the Senate list hasn't been created yet. Howard the Duck (talk) 04:49, 4 March 2022 (UTC)

Opinion polling for the 2022 Philippine House of Representatives partylist elections?

Hello there Howard the Duck.

I found some opinion polls for the upcoming partylist elections, from Pulse Asia (refer to Table 7) showing opinion polls for the preferences what partylist they will vote if the elections happened in those days were fieldwork and surveys are being conducted.

I have further plans to submit my ongoing work in the sandbox, yes, the opinion polling for the 2022 Philippine House of Representatives partylist elections, to be submitted to articles for creation. despite the lack of other polling records for the partylist elections up to this date, is those records enough to be submitted soon as an article? Thanks. Xingqiu Talk 11:23, 16 March 2022 (UTC)

Check out Template:2022 Philippine general election: there is a potential article for a separate party-list election article, and presumably an opinion poll article can be created as well. Howard the Duck (talk) 12:54, 16 March 2022 (UTC)

Opinions about this?

A lot of people flagged your work regarding its accuracy and even its legitimacy. https://www.facebook.com/TheFilipinoPatriots/photos/a.1033031146718206/5132592743428672/

File:Philippine ethnic groups per province.PNG is based via the 2000 census. The ethnic group with the plurality in the province gets to "own" the province. I suppose they can go ask the Philippine Statistics Authority if they think it's wrong. Howard the Duck (talk) 12:56, 16 March 2022 (UTC)
The original PNG file has been edited multiple times, but this version is faithful to the Census 2000. This seems to be one that the present SVG based it upon. For example, the current PNG puts Negros provinces as one color. The faithful to the census PNG and current SVG version split it into two. Check out the web archived versions for Negros Occidental and Negros Oriental:
There are no per-municipality totals that I know of. Howard the Duck (talk) 14:32, 16 March 2022 (UTC)
May I ask what is the difference between Binisaya vs Cebuano? Also some articles in Philippine Wikis and EN Wiki still use this map which of course outdated. Are you going to update the map? There are already sources for 2010 and 2019 by the PSA AFIK.
BTW also, what and how did you make this map? What program and base image/map did you use? --Likhasik (talk) 18:30, 16 March 2022 (UTC)
Re: Difference between Binisaya and Cebuano: This is something you'd have to ask the PSA. As they used different terms, I assigned different colors. To do otherwise is WP:SYNTH.
Re: Updating the map. AFAIK, the PSA has not released per-province ethnicity totals in any of the post-2000 censuses. Howard the Duck (talk) 18:36, 16 March 2022 (UTC)
Re: Making the map: I used the blank maps we have here in WP:PINOY. This is similar to what we use to make provincial maps. Howard the Duck (talk) 18:37, 16 March 2022 (UTC)
What program do you use? I am thinking of creating one for TL Wiki. As well with other maps and images from EN PH WIki--Likhasik (talk) 19:52, 16 March 2022 (UTC)

2022 Elections Map

Hello, would you mind If I update the 2022 ph presidential election map with an svg format based on File:PhlMapCit.svg and File:PhlMapProv.svg? I am also thinking of using it for past elections. NapadaangIsko (talk) 03:38, 8 April 2022 (UTC)

I suppose someone will create an SVG map before the person who wins takes office. My programs can't handle SVG. Howard the Duck (talk) 09:30, 8 April 2022 (UTC)

Use of "Bongbong" throughout articles

I'd welcome your intervention in the discussion I've opened in regards to the article on the 2022 Philippines Presidential election (and in the biographical article on President-elect Marcos). I think itys use (without even adding in his surname) throughout these articles is meant as a disparagement, even if he uses it himself as a campaigning tool. NCAA Season 97 Volleyball Scores/Results

Hi Howard/HTD! Good day, I noticed you removed the results section in the NCAA Season 97 volleyball tournaments article, I was wondering if we could use the removed section instead of the retained scores section, which is the usual results table used in UAAP and NCAA basketball scores? We can include the game references (eg. P2 report and related news about the game) in that format. I noticed the removed section is also the same results format used in professional volleyball tournaments, such as the PVL and the PSL. Thanks!   Linsanity   08:30, 17 June 2022 (UTC)

Wikipedia doesn't have a laundry list of "regular season"/"elimination round" scores for domestic leagues. We do this for continental-level and higher competitions and playoffs of domestic league competitions.
What Wikipedia does is the scores tables that's used in scores (pun intended) of sports league season articles. Only Filipino volleyball leagues do this, and Australian leagues. I know Filipino volleyball fans think their sport is special, but hey, the good old PBA and PFL doesn't have a laundry list of elimination round scores. Even the NCAA's counterpart league, the UAAP doesn't do this (at least on the most recent 2 tournaments that I checked). The PSL and PVL should do the same. Howard the Duck (talk) 12:32, 17 June 2022 (UTC)
It's apparently you and the volleyball editors don't know how to use Module:Sports table. There are several examples on how to use that on its documentation pages and on actual articles where this is being used. The usages is meant to be universal, for every sport, for every level of competition, for every country. Howard the Duck (talk) 13:51, 17 June 2022 (UTC)
Noted on this. Thanks.   Linsanity   02:04, 18 June 2022 (UTC)

Feedback/comments on Rodrigo Duterte's infobox image/portrait

Hello. Rodrigo Duterte's infobox portrait currently uses what appears as Duterte's "official portrait" as president. However, the image looks obviously digitally manipulated and unnatural. I have tried discussing the issue on the article's Talk page but there have not yet been any responses. Perhaps you can give suggestions/insights if the current image is fine or if it should be changed to a better close-up and natural-looking portrait? Thanks. Team brackets

Hi. I wanted to follow up with you about the template brackets and omitting score cells. Instead of using {{6TeamBracket}}, which I agree has some confusing syntax for omitting seeds, you can use {{6TeamBracket-info}}, which has different syntax (since they are implemented with different modules). With {{6TeamBracket-info}}, you can use the parameter |autolegs=y, and the bracket will automatically fill score cells (in addition with this template, you can also add text above matches). Take a look at Template:1999 PBA Commissioner's Cup Playoffs bracket to see how it would be implemented. – Pbrks (t • c) 18:36, 3 September 2022 (UTC)

Thanks, and this should standardize similar brackets that are being used. Howard the Duck (talk) 20:11, 3 September 2022 (UTC)

Software used in File:Rizal Provincial Board composition.svg

Hello HowardTheDuck, I would like to know what software you used to make the File:Rizal Provincial Board composition.svg. Siuhl10 (talk) 12:17, 8 September 2022 (UTC)

Just like all of these provincial board diagrams, I used Inkscape.
FWIW, I'm waiting on official COMELEC list of winners so these can finally be updated. Howard the Duck (talk) 12:21, 8 September 2022 (UTC)

DYK for 1993 Bataan gubernatorial recall election

On 12 September 2022, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article 1993 Bataan gubernatorial recall election, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that Ding Roman defeated his cousin Tet Garcia in the 1993 Bataan gubernatorial recall election? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/1993 Bataan gubernatorial recall election. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, 1993 Bataan gubernatorial recall election), and if they received a combined total of at least 416.7 views per hour (i.e., 5,000 views in 12 hours or 10,000 in 24), the hook may be added to the statistics page. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Infobox template for PH collegiate leagues

I have a request posted in the talk page of the template:

Seniors' champions
Sport
Men
Women
Juniors' champions
Sport
Boys
Girls
(NT) = No tournament; (DS) = Demonstration Sport;
(Ex) = Exhibition;

regarding accomodation of the current preferred nomenclature of the UAAP on COLLEGIATE/HIGH SCHOOL as opposed to seniors/juniors. Kindly extend help. Thank you. Aeron Valderrama (talk) 16:26, 4 October 2022 (UTC)

I suppose we should toggle this as old UAAP seasons used the old nomenclature, and other leagues still use Srs/Jrs. Howard the Duck (talk) 17:04, 4 October 2022 (UTC)
Yeah. I'm just NOT knowledgable on how to do it, like we change the name of teams (e.g., how we use Blue Eagles and Fighting Maroons for now for Ateneo and UP women's teams). Aeron Valderrama (talk) 09:08, 18 October 2022 (UTC)
Some other people made separate templates to make this supposedly easier but it turns out it was only easier for someone like them that uses "NUI" for the team known as NU. Check out {{UAAPteam}}. Howard the Duck (talk) 12:01, 18 October 2022 (UTC)
No, I mean just similar to that where we can change the parameter of, say, seniors_designation=collegiate. Aeron Valderrama (talk) 20:53, 18 October 2022 (UTC)
My plates are full; I'm planning to create individual men's basketball articles for each UAAP school (UST and FEU already has one, so 6 to go). This is currently at the bottom of my list but if that's the only edit you wan't to do, then I'll see what can be done. (See also wholesale changes statement below.) Howard the Duck (talk) 21:36, 18 October 2022 (UTC)
OK, it was apparently a simple enough edit and I was able to change it. The template is now apparently nestled with another template; as this was my plan all along, I won't make any more changes, just that we'd have to hardcode the sport on the template itself and not on the article. Howard the Duck (talk) 21:43, 18 October 2022 (UTC)
Also I'm looking for someone to make a wholesale change to that template so we no longer have to hardcode which sport it is. Howard the Duck (talk) 17:05, 4 October 2022 (UTC)
Yeah, definitely, like what the template does for basketball, volleyball, etc. Aeron Valderrama (talk) 20:54, 18 October 2022 (UTC)

Hi

Hi Howard the Duck (talk · contribs) good day to you but why you delete my edit? In 2022 Philippine House of Representatives elections. Einahr (talk) 04:47, 6 November 2022 (UTC)

The infobox has been a cited as a prime example of ugliness at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Elections and Referendums‎#Bloated infoboxes. Let's keep the infobox as a summary. 9 parties at the infobox, of which the last 3 have less seats than the sixth is unquestionably a bit too much. We don't do this in presidential election infoboxes. Howard the Duck (talk) 04:55, 6 November 2022 (UTC)

UPHD colors

Hi, Howard the Duck. I noticed you updated Perpetual's school colors icon from maroon and white to maroon and gold, thank you for this. I just think it is still similar to Mapúa's school colors icon when it is populated in NCAA NCAA Elimination Round games, although I noticed you updated MU's hex colors too. Personally, it's just a bit hard to distinguish UPHD and MU moving forward. Maybe I'm just a creature of habit and I'm used to seeing Perpetual's old school icon since 2008, with white being their tertiary color, and they usually use maroon and white in their dark and light jerseys; it takes a lot of getting used to, I guess. I don't know the criteria used to schools with more than two school colors, like Perpetual (Maroon/Gold/White) and UST (Black/Gold/White), although I understand UST's case is different and it references the colors of the Vatican's flag.   Linsanity   04:57, 13 November 2022 (UTC)

FWIW, most schools have tertiary colors. Mapua uses red/gold/black, while SSC-R is gold/red/white. We always use the first two colors. Howard the Duck (talk) 07:28, 13 November 2022 (UTC)

Thanks, although I'm not sure which of the two colors should come first for some schools; I think NU's school colors should be inverted to gold and blue instead, based on NU's school hymn1, and to distinguish it from JRU in the off-season tournaments. I remember ADMU's school colors were inverted in 2013, to mimic the line white and blue from A Song for Mary.   Linsanity   10:53, 27 November 2022 (UTC)
WP:IS have always used blue and gold for both JRU and NU, and blue and white for Ateneo. The icon was previously indeed (bright) blue and white because the official hue of blue made it appear close to Adamson colors of navy blue. If you'd ask me, we should revert to the old bright blue and white due to WP:OFFICIAL. Even the Ateneo uniforms currently use bright blue. Howard the Duck (talk) 22:03, 27 November 2022 (UTC)
As for JRU vs. NU, these are distinguished:
If you'd notice, San Beda and UE can also now be distinguished, as San Beda now has the darker red over UE:

Serbia is outdated

Hello, could you please update Serbia in your map showing electoral thresholds by country? In the 2020 parliamentary election here, the electoral threshold was lowered from 5% to 3%. Thanks for reading! Some random serbian (talk) 16:17, 15 December 2022 (UTC)

I'll check if I can do this on the weekend. You can also do this yourself as this can be easily done via Paint. Howard the Duck (talk) 22:34, 15 December 2022 (UTC)
Apparently this is an SVG file that cannot be easily edited. Howard the Duck (talk) 13:44, 16 December 2022 (UTC)
And apparently my Inkscape is not opening. You'd have to ask someone else. Howard the Duck (talk) 13:59, 16 December 2022 (UTC)
I was able to open Inkscape, and the map has been updated, and not just for Serbia. Howard the Duck (talk) 00:42, 17 December 2022 (UTC)

Ateneo colors

Hello, thanks for the edit on the Ateneo flag icon to be consistent with the school's colors. However, would it be alright if you keep the old format of white on top of blue as the school's flag follows the same layout? Salmonpepperrice (talk) 20:11, 17 December 2022 (UTC)

I don't think we have to follow the "WP:OFFICIAL" guidelines but the WP:RS ones which refer to it as the "blue and white" school in Katipunan. Even the official colors refer to "blue and white".
(WP:OFFICIAL refers to "official names", but it can be argued to anything else that's "official" or is advised by the person/organization on how it wants to be presented to the world.) Howard the Duck (talk) 22:20, 17 December 2022 (UTC)
