Thank you[edit]

For correcting spelling at Kermit Roosevelt, Jr. article. After checking its sources, it remains a morass of largely unsourced information. The going through, line-by-line—even though I copyedit after—always is helped by having an extra set of eyes look over the corrections. Looking forward to a day that a scholar of this subject and era can check and attribute all that appears. Best I can do, is see if an indicated source actually says what its inline citation claims, and if not, adjust or remove it. Cheers. Le Prof. 71.201.62.200 (talk) 14:59, 30 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Delition of "Lluís Juste de Nin"[edit]

Hi! I saw you placed a tag on my new article "Lluís Juste de Nin" requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. I would like to mention that I am not the person I am writting about and I just made this user to translate the same article which in its original page is in catalan, you can look for that one, and that one was accepted. As a matter of fact I do believe there are reasons to believe the man I am writting about should be in Wikipedia and they are mentioned in the full article, the version I just uploaded was a test. I am new to wikipedia and I was trying stuff. Thanks for your time and I hope you understand my explanations. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Lluisjuste (talkcontribs) 10:16, 3 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I'm new on en.wiki, so i dont know how to add that ref sections. So I stard to add with Cite error: There are <ref> tags on this page without content in them (see the help page).. Is something wrong? I'm also new with this talk pages. Regards. AStyle (talk) 10:22, 3 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@AStyle: You add references by using <ref> </ref>. You add a reference section by putting ==References== at or near the bottom of the article and putting {{reflist}} beneath that.
By the way, to an extent, you've figured out talk pages. --I dream of horses (T) @ 03:37, 4 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Obi2canibe

The reference to oldest Schools in Sri Lanka, then called Ceylon is from many sources. Most schools were known by different names than at present and many misjudged when a school changed her name or the status (eg. going from vernacular to anglo vernacular, then to become high schools) of the school as the date of beginning. For instance the Methodist Central School of Batticaloa claims variously that they started on 29th June, 29th July, 1814. this is a misnomer as the Missionaries landed in Ceylon only on the 19th June 1814 (see Ship News Ceylon Gazette No. 668, Wednesday 6th July 1814).

The School Richmond then known as the Galle School started on 25th July 1814 (the Rev Benjamin Clough's journal entry on 25th July 1874 — SOAS, London University and also page 210 of Jubilee Memorials of the Wesleyan Mission South Ceylon 1814-1864 by the Rev Spence Hardy published in 1864) but became a High School on 1st May 1876.(The school misjudged the date and it cannot be as it is on record vide- Wesleyan Missionary Notices 1878, that two students entered the Ceylon Medical School in the very next year ie. 1877) .

The Rippon Girls School was the girls' Department of the 2nd Wesleyan English School started in 1817 in Magalle - vide Quarterly Reports Extracts from quarterly letters 1817-1826 page 4 the letter sent to the Mission headquarters by the Rev John McKenny who started the school). The school too was moved to Richmond Hill in 1858 and went on to become Rippon Girls' School. the School had different names over the years. In 1871 it was named the Whitefield Girls' School from Richmond hill Girls' boarding School the name used since the school moved to Richmond Hill in 1858). If I am to give all the references then it will fill an A4 page.I am sure that it is not what you want. I am not competent enough to redo the pages as you suggest. I too wish to see Wikipedia becoming an authoritative source that will allow researchers to site. BTW I have a picture of Rippon Girls' School but don't know how to add it. I created part of my article with references successfully. Only one issue: In one reference: the date between the month and the year did not show up, instead, I got a red line of the date with a link to "Help", I clicked in the Help page, but could not find any reasons or errors that I made. Here is my text of the reference: [1]

Hi I dream of horses!-(sometimes I do too, I love Arabian ones)-anyways thanks for coming to my page and talking about the Exhibition fights article. I had just gone to do some exercise-as my sugar level was above 500 at that moment-when you saw my article. I love that you tagged it the way you did as I had long been looking for that tag for when I need to leave an article I am writing for a bit of time. Anyways I just finished it and am thinking about my next project, about a 1984 gas explosion in Mexico. Go check the page now and hope you enjoy it! Thanks and God bless you! Lol yes it is! Well like I said I was planning to do an article on that explosion but Julio Angel had to get in the way and die! (And I was surprised he did not have an article yet!) so I did that and I guess the explosion article will wait until tomorrow...and BTW I found out Trio Los Condes has no article either, they were a major musical group in Latin America so that's another one on my list of upcoming articles I guess hehe...you take care of yourself too and I hope you keep checking the articles I come up with! @Lavalounge: There's a discussion ongoing, or at least, an attempt to get a discussion going, which will determine whether or not the article exists. Getting sources, online or offline, English or not, will help, particulary if the sources are secondary or tertiary in nature.

@TheLongTone: Can you tell me why you unreviewed the article? --I dream of horses (T) @ 16:12, 6 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
The editor concerned has created a lot of articles about people of dubious notablity, & I thought this was probably one of them. But not strongly eneough to AfD it. Re-review it if you like, it's not something I feel passionate about!TheLongTone (talk) 10:50, 7 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@TheLongTone: I hadn't known the history of this particular editor; however high-ranking military officials and higher-level politicians are generally presumed to be notable.
Enough time has apparently passed that either someone has re-reviewed the article, or the page curation bar no longer appears. I dream of horses (T) @ 15:47, 7 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Whigfield's page[edit]

Hi, thanks for helping. I am trying to modify the name of Whigfield from Sannie Charlotte Carlson to the real name Charlotte Carlson. Sannie is just a niche name and miss Carlson is going to use it for her new project, so she doesn t want it to be written in conjunction with Whigfield's name. I am miss Carlson producer so I think to have the right to modify it, otherwise you should be so kind to explain to me why I can't Thanks for your kind attention Marco Marati — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mamararatiti (talkcontribs) 14:33, 10 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Mamararatiti: Firstly, I just want to state that you have a conflict of interest; peoples' interest in keeping their job has conflicted with Wikipedias' interest of imparting objective information in the past.
The most ethical way of dealing with this is asking people on the article talk page, with the {{requested edit}} template, to change it, explaining why. I'm sure it'll happen to an extent, even if it's just "Sannie Charlotte Carlson (real name Charlotte Carlson)" instead of just "Charlotte Carlson". --I dream of horses (T) @ 15:58, 10 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@Idreamofhorses dear Emily (I think this is your name), I explained in the space reserved to explain the reason I edited it...when you use the world "objective" this can never be confused with "subjective".... so my edit request...a real name is something "objective", while your speech sounds to me very "subjective"...I think you shouldn' t have any rights on the wish of an other person's about her personal name and rights....so I will shortly edit again Whigfield's page and I kindly ask to you not to block me...unless you need a written notice by miss Carlson...she can provide this to you, just let me know where this has to be send....thanks again for your kindness ...marco marati — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mamararatiti (talkcontribs) 16:12, 10 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@Mamararatiti: I have several years of editing Wikipedia on you. I think I know what I'm saying when I talk about how to edit Wikipedia in an ethical manner, no matter how I say it, or how it's perceived. I only gave you a suggestion that I frequently give to those who must edit Wikipedia as part of their job. The alternative is to email info-en-q@wikimedia.org; however, since you seem to know how to edit a talk page, and since this apparently isn't a private matter, given how you are asking for advice in a public forum, I thought I'd suggest {{requested edit}} instead. I dream of horses (T) @ 03:19, 11 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
(talk page stalker) @I dream of horses: Please be aware that Whigfield's producer was previously blocked, and so this account appears to be block evasion- I've started an SPI. Also, @Mamararatiti: asides from the fact you're previous account was blocked, and so any new accounts are not permitted per WP:BLOCKEVASION and WP:SOCK, I dream of horses 100% correct- you shouldn't be directly editing due to your conflict of interest, and Wikipedia relies on verfifiable information from reliable sources, which you are removing and replacing with your own opinion/original research. Citing a source multiple times, but different pages each time[edit]

Hi there! Thanks for offering your help! I've recently been editing a few articles in which one source is very important, such that it needs to be cited multiple times. How do I make the citation accurate? I don't want to cite the same thing 8 times, but I also want to include an accurate page range...

Any ideas? Thanks :) Rambunctious Racoon (talk) 14:33, 20 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Rambunctious Racoon: There is a way to "name" references, and using that "name" to reuse the same citation over and over again, but I think that's when everything, including page range, is exactly the same; this method is described here if you're curious. Just cite everything over and over again for now; if I'm wrong, eventually someone will come by and correct it. --I dream of horses (T) @ 03:34, 21 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I received notification from you to my article Key Witness (Book). can you help me how can i improve to the article?

thank you

Ade Wahyudi (talk) 03:20, 22 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Ade Wahyudi: By adding inline citations. You basically do so by adding a reference between <ref> and</ref>, behind whatever sentence you want to reference. --I dream of horses (T) @ 03:26, 22 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Dear ma'am,
I already put inline citation like you suggest. Please review the article.
Thank you

Byneskranskop[edit]

Hi,

I was thinking of doing a little more from the 1982 site reports. There are other photographs available of the site and remains, some are waiting for rotations, others need cropping from the source. As it's one of the many things on my backlog, I prefer to leave the under construction template in place for a few days rather than hours, however the only disadvantage is that notices get slapped on a bit prematurely. Cheers -- (talk) 08:34, 22 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@: Okay, got it. I dream of horses (T) @ 17:10, 22 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Untitled[edit]

Hello,

I see that you visited my entry for Experimental Pragmatics. I read that it takes about 9 weeks to get a page approved. Does that sound right to you?

Thanks,

Irastaman (talk) 20:38, 22 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Irastaman: If you're using articles for creation to submit a draft, yes, that sounds right. I dream of horses (T) @ 04:53, 23 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Creating a sidebar[edit]

I'm the author of the Harry Mark Petrakis page here on Wikipedia. I have seen "sidebars" to the right of other authors' pages, such as those of Kurt Vonnegut, Saul Bellow, and Isaac Bashevis Singer. Here is one of those pages as an example: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Isaac_Bashevis_Singer

Can you help me mount a sidebar? For example, how would I submit a photo? Thank you. Lambrini Papangelis (talk) 20:51, 22 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Lambrini Papangelis: The sidebars are called infoboxes. You would want {{Infobox writer}} for Harrys' article. Just fill out what applies/what you know.
Images are a bit tricky, because of the copyright situation on Wikipedia. Nearly every living person needs a free-use image---that is, an image that anyone can sell, modify, or distribute. If you can find one, then you can put one in Harrys' article. You mightbe able to get a fair-use image to represent the peak of Harrys' career, but I'm not sure about that. --I dream of horses (T) @ 05:00, 23 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Sour rye soup[edit]

Hello,

You contacted me saying that you had reversed an edit to the post for 'Sour rye soup' as I had not explained myself. The deleted content was a link to a recipe. That link now returns a 404 error, hence my decision to delete it. As it was the only link in 'External links' section I also decided to delete the section.

Deletion of KFit page[edit]

11:26, 22 July 2015 Cryptic (talk | contribs) deleted page KFit (A7: Article about a company, corporation or organization, which does not credibly indicate the importance or significance of the subject)

Based on the log above, I would like to know what is the reason on why you tag the page on speedy deletion? Just because, the page is insufficient referencing, is there a necessary for you to put a tag on deleting. I have planned to reestablish the page again, unless you have solid reason on why putting a tag on the page.

Thanks. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jeff425 (talkcontribs) 13:14, July 23, 2015

@Jeff425: Referencing helps to an extent, but really I put that there when there's nothing about why that particular organization is important, at least nothing that's presented encyclopedic in nature.
Per my edit notice, it's probably best to talk to Cryptic about this. --I dream of horses (T) @ 17:52, 23 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Uploading photo[edit]

Hello I Dream of Horses, I have made many edits on my article and I believe it is ready. I need to upload a photo I followd instructions but was told that I should confirmed, can you help? chasehillary Chasehillary (talk) 19:55, 23 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Chasehillary: Confirmation automatically happens when you have an account that's four days old and ten edits to it. My suggestion is to either wait it out, or to go to [commons.wikimedia.org Wikimedia Commons] instead. Wikimedia Commons is a sister website with more relaxed rules as to who can upload media (anyone with an account), and more strict rules as to the copyright of the media you can upload (free culture licensed media only). --I dream of horses (T) @ 22:59, 23 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Gour Prasad Ghose[edit]

Hello I Dream of Horses,

I am trying to add a Wiki article about Gour Prasad Ghose. I am new to creating Wikipedia and trying to learn about how to create proper articles. I am not sure why the article was marked for deletion by you. Gour Prasad Ghose was a noted pioneer in Oriya (India) film industry. Can you please tell me why? Also, any help to try to format it the way it should look will be very helpful. Thank you — Preceding unsigned comment added by GourParbatiz (talkcontribs) 2:39, July 26, 2015‎

@GourParbatiz: I marked it for deletion since it seemed to be overly promotional. Maybe you can ask C.Fred why he deleted the article, per my edit notice. --I dream of horses (T) @ 04:14, 26 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Adding a photo to an infobox[edit]

OK, I think I can figure out how to use Infobox Writer. But I'm not clear as to how to add a photo to an infobox. Do I save the photo to a flash drive, stick the flash drive in the computer, and upload the photo? Thanks. Lambrini Papangelis (talk) 08:46, 26 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Lambrini Papangelis: You would have to upload the photo, with some level of permission of the copyright holder (usually, the photographer), to Wikipedia, or it's sister site, Wikimedia commons, which is at commons.wikimedia.org. Most of the time, with living people, you need to get a photograph that's okay to distribute, modify, and/or sell. At it's most strict, this means that I could plaster the photo on a shirt, attribute the photographer, and sell that t-shirt legally.
On occasion, you might be able to upload a fully copyrighted, fair-use exempted photo, but it's better to assume that you can't do that, or ask if you can, than to assume that you can. --I dream of horses (T) @ 20:52, 26 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

How to upload an Image[edit]

Hi! How to upload an image ? Want to upload it at article Mohammad_Shahzad

But I don't know how to do.

He ( Mohammad Shahzad ) had sent me some photos. I want to upload it.

Please assist. Sohanpandey (talk) 09:27, 26 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Sohanpandey: I actually answered a similar question in the section above.
It'll have to be okay with the photographer to sell, give out, or change the photograph, because Mohammad is still alive. If the photographer is okay with that, you can upload it to Wikimedia Commons, wikimedia.commons.org, which is a site owned by the same company as the one who owns Wikipedia. --I dream of horses (T) @ 20:55, 26 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I am confused...[edit]

@chasehillary. Hello "I dream of horses" (I do too...)

Thanks for editing my article: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Alfred_G._Gerteiny - As you can see I have condensed and removed detail from my original submission based on an earlier editor's comments, and endeavored to satisfy yours by excising the old references and inserting, following wiki rules, specific ones; I have also replaced a photo of my subject with a more recent one. I am new at this and, at this point thoroughly confused and discouraged; I know you are busy, but kindly indicate what I have done that is unacceptable and what I must do to make my submission worthy of wikipedia.Chasehillary (talk) 17:39, 25 July 2015 (UTC)chasehillary[reply]

Hello @Chasehillary:; I think this page may help with this. The minimum requirements are that direct quotations, anything that has been challenged, anything that is likely to be challenged, and bad stuff about living people must be referenced. Rubbish computer 18:12, 25 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
The section on 'Family, Education and Career' has almost no footnotes; you need to either make footnotes to references you have that back this up, or find new references that back it up. If you can't find a source for something you can remove it. Referencing standards to do with living people are particularly strict (see WP:BLP). Regards, Rubbish computer 18:15, 25 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

BLP[edit]

Hello I Dream of Horses, thanks for your interest and suggestions; I understand that BLPs require more footnotes backing up statement about a subject. I will do that, and also bring more clarity to the existing footnotes. You have kindly noted old versions and new ones; what am I supposed to do? confirm the newer ones? Gratefully! @I dream of horses: chasehillaryChasehillary (talk) 19:35, 26 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Chasehillary: Actually, it was Rubbish computer, a kindly talk page watcher of mine, who answered your question. I dream of horses (T) @ 20:57, 26 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Charlie Burke's Article[edit]

Hello there!

You had proposed for deletion of Charlie Burke's article because It had no references/sources.

Disambiguation link notification for July 29[edit]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited List of Virgin Media television channels, you added links pointing to the disambiguation pages CI, Lifetime and H2. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Change of IP address[edit]

Hi there. I have a problem I think you might be able to help me with. For the last few months I have been editing anonymously - i.e., using only my static IP address. After I had been doing it awhile you contacted me here some time ago back at the beginning of May. You obviously thought I was a new user and sent me your standard welcome message encouraging me to become a member. But I have been a member of Wikipedia for yonks and already have multiple Wikipedia accounts. One of the reasons (by no means the only one) I stuck to anonymous editing this time around was that I got the impression people paid more attention to my actual edits if they were done anonymously without any user id. and member page to distract them and trigger unnecessary biases for or against the editor. But that is a whole other issue.

I am user 66.16.144.18, and as you can see from all the other sections on my Talk page below your own, I have quite a few conversations ongoing. Or more correctly, I used to be user 66.16.144.18 and have had that IP address for more than a dozen or so years, which is why I felt quite comfortable using it for the purposes of anonymous editing. As of today I am now 98.141.88.131 (or something close to that; I have not had time to get acclimatised to my new number yet!). For the last three days or so I have been numberless and connectionless and a total web and phone nonentity because the card on the central office switch supporting my phone line (over which my DSL web service is carried) went on the fritz causing me, after three agonizing days of no phone nor internet service, to be moved to another port on another CO switch card which requires me to have a different static IP address. So now I am trying to work out the implications this will have for me on Wikipedia.

The most obvious one is that I don't have access to my 66.16.144.18 Talk page as user 98.141.88.131. Clearly, I can still edit there, but my comments will look like I'm just another anonymous editor contributing to the page, and they will not appear to be the comments of the Talk page's owner. I had always assumed that if and when I created a new user account - for instance, back in May when you invited me to do so - all of my prior edits done anonymously could retroactively be associated with my new moniker. For instance, if back in May I had created a new account with the name "anonnomore" all of my edits and comments signed "66.16.144.18" would be resigned as "anonnomore". Is/was this assumption true and can something similar be done for a new account created from my new IP address? For instance, if I now created a new account "MeAndAllMyPriorAnons" could I have all my prior edits and comments (done as "66.16.144.18") and this comment here (done as "98.141.88.131") associated with it in some way? If not, can you suggest some other solution to my dilemma? I hope all this made sense. Thanks. 98.141.88.131 (talk) 20:05, 30 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Unfortunately, because even static IP addresses change locations and/or people (like you know now!), and because multiple people can edit from one location, and therefore, share an IP address (this happens a lot at schools, workplaces, etc.), there's no way to attribute edits to a "monikired" username like in the way you're describing. If you want all of your edits to be attributed to one name, you'll have to create an account and stick with it.I dream of horses (T) @ 20:36, 30 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
