Question

Was I being bitey towards User:Mod mmg? I am not really sure, but if I was, I want to apoligize... Homework2 TalkWhat I do! 16:08, 11 June 2010 (UTC)

You stated your case clearly, constructively and respectfully, stayed calm and were never hostile. Therefore, far better than the rest of us in all respects, TBO! Really what happened was that several editors got involved in quick succession (4 eventually) and that situation could have caused the new editor to feel overwhelmed. Probably the best thing to do now is leave it and let Mod mmg work out what she/he wants to do. The signature is marginally confusing and distracting but nowhere near as bad as some. One editor insisted on forcing the four tildes to appear as his signature, others have used highly insulting language (homophobic, racist, sexist etc), others still have linked to attack pages or used pornographic external links etc, and yet others have created giant chains of markup that take up four or five lines in the edit box. That was what I meant by saying "it is hardly a blockable signature". OTOH, the fact that Mod mmg copied the entire thread over to editors' talkpages was pretty annoying and something had to be said. Perhaps each of us (me included) could perhaps have been a little more civil when explaining our problem with the approach but we were all a little peeved! We'll have to wait to see if Mod starts editing again over the weekend (as implied) before we get any idea if the incident has put him/her off editing. My guess is that it hasn't and that we will have the opportunity to work collaboratively with Mod and move on --Jubileeclipman 18:40, 11 June 2010 (UTC)
Oops... I used Talkback before I saw Don't place a talkback on my page, that just is plain annoying. I removed it... I will remember for next time! --Jubileeclipman 18:49, 11 June 2010 (UTC)
Phew. Okay. I really don't want to have any type of conflict on my record...LOL. I was curious as to why there was a "new messages" banner and nothing new was on my page. Thanks! Homework2 TalkWhat I do! 20:10, 11 June 2010 (UTC)
LOL! You should look at my history sometime... Especially around February/March this year! The thing about conflicts is that they happen; the thing to do is to learn from them. On the talkback thing: I wondered if you still get the orange banner thingy even though I had deleted my post; now I know!  :) --Jubileeclipman 20:19, 11 June 2010 (UTC)

Grab some glory, and a barnstar

Hi, I'd like to invite you to participate in the Guild of Copy Editors July 2010 Backlog Elimination Drive. In May, about 30 editors helped remove the {{copyedit}} tag from 1175 articles. The backlog is still over 7500 articles, and extends back to the beginning of 2008! We really need your help to reduce it. Copyediting just a couple articles can qualify you for a barnstar. Serious copyeditors can win prestigious and exclusive rewards. See the event page for more information. And thanks for your consideration. mono 00:39, 12 June 2010 (UTC)

Thanks Mono. I'll have a look at that. I'll probably be tied up with sorting out the Music Guidelines though along with several other things here and in RL... It can go in my growing To-do list, though --Jubileeclipman 00:44, 12 June 2010 (UTC)
Anything is appreciated, even a stub. If you're the slightest bit interested, sign up and see how much you can do. Cheers, mono 00:47, 12 June 2010 (UTC)
OK. Thanks --Jubileeclipman 00:49, 12 June 2010 (UTC)
Thank you very much for signing up for the July Backlog Elimination Drive! The copyedit backlog stretches back two and a half years, all the way back to the beginning of 2008! We're really going to need all the help we can muster to get it down to a manageable number. We've ambitiously set a goal of clearing all of 2008 from the backlog this month. In order to do that, we're going to need more participants. Is there anyone that you can invite or ask to participate with you? If so, we're offering an award to the person who brings in the most referrals. Just notify ɳorɑfʈ Talk! or Diannaa TALK of who your referrals are. Once again, thanks for your support! Diannaa TALK 03:08, 12 June 2010 (UTC)
There are probably a few people I could ask. I notice Jimbo has signed up! Good for him. I'll primarily focus on music articles. I use CatScan to cross-reference categories and templates: in this case, music WikiProject talkpage banners with Category:All articles needing copy edit (and its sub-cats). Some of these articles are awful, especially those on lesser-known musicians and compositions. BTW, what happens if I copy edit an article that has been PRODed or AfDed, or is likely to be? Does it still count if the article is deleted? --Jubileeclipman 20:54, 12 June 2010 (UTC)
Yes, articles that are deleted still count. Though if you concentrate your attentions on articles that have been in the backlog for a while, you will see that the obvious AfDs are already gone. The CatScan idea is terrific. People often ask how to find a list of articles needing copy edit on a specific topic. I will have to experiment with its use! :) Thanks for the tip. YES! Jimbo signed up! As well as some admins and other high profile users. It's gonna be huge! Diannaa TALK 21:05, 12 June 2010 (UTC)

Yep, CatScan is darn useful and powerful! It can play up, though, and it takes a while to get used to using it. E.g., you have to ask it explicitly to search talkpages for WikiProject banners; also, you need to ask it explicitly to search subcats to a specific depth (5 usually does the trick). Deskford found it during the unreferenced BLP clean-up drive and we used it to find all the composer articles that needed refs: Category:All unreferenced BLPs [crossed with the various WikiProject banners did the trick mostly, though crossing with Category:Classical composers got others. It depends entirely on which banners and cats have been added, of course --Jubileeclipman 22:28, 12 June 2010 (UTC)

Thanks again. I tried out Cat Scan and it was easy! I have posted info on this tip on the Guild home page. Diannaa TALK 04:12, 13 June 2010 (UTC)

Manual of Style discussion

Hello. Apologies for being part of such a distraction on that discussion page. I'll try to lay low for a while. My only request is that more editors be made aware of the discussion. Namely, User:JackofOz as he has expressed a lot of interest in this topic. See User:JackofOz/Musical styles to show how interested he is and check that page's history for other interested users. I am not necessarily against some of the suggested changes and I'm very impressed with some of the documented citations that were often found for each suggestion. Even in cases where I prefer a different style, its just a style and I don't want to be WP:LAME over capitalization and spaces. As long as users are aware and not surprised when the style changes are propagated into article edits, then I'm OK and I'll enforce whatever new standards are created. Thanks.DavidRF (talk) 23:13, 14 June 2010 (UTC)

David: you have little to apologise for beyond getting a little over-heated at times. You took Hyacinth to task over the seeping changes he made without discussion but he refused to listen to you, ignored PL290 and me (until I had made 3 or 4 comments) and continued to push his cause and make changes. BTW, it is a rare thing for Melodia to comment in such circumstances and I am surprised she laid off the ALLCAPS! Her summing up is exactly correct: this has been discussed and settled in the past and further changes need to be discussed widely rather than not at all. I also don't entirely disagree with Hyacinth's proposed changes but the fact that he found "3 1/2" sources claiming his position could probably be countered with 3 1/2 claiming the opposite if we care to look. It is a pretty lame discussion, though, you are right! --Jubileeclipman 23:58, 14 June 2010 (UTC)

Sadly, I fear there is no remorse forthcoming; if I open a new RFC/U would you kindly certify it with me?-- φ OnePt618Talk φ 15:56, 22 June 2010 (UTC)
Frankly, I think we are flogging a dead horse. Let's wait a while longer to see if other editors join the discussion and add their voice, though. I'd only go to RFCU if this happens again. You can then bring up the fact that Greg failed to recognise his wrongdoing in this incident: that will lend weight to any claim that he is not as white as some editors seem to be painting him. I honestly can't believe that some over at WA appear to be claiming that you are the sole person to blame for this. Are they on the same page as us (as it were...)? --Jubileeclipman 19:49, 22 June 2010 (UTC)
Fair enuf; seems reasonable to me! Thanks again for your support; it's really appreciated :)-- φ OnePt618Talk φ 05:15, 23 June 2010 (UTC)
Sadly, looks like others are being bitten by him now. Look at this diff: [1] There are so many violations of WP:OWN in that one paragraph it's shocking.-- φ OnePt618Talk φ 15:46, 30 June 2010 (UTC)
Looks like he's picked a fight with the wrong guy there! I'd let Greg dig his own holes. If he attacks you again, take him to RFCU or ANI as appropriate. Otherwise, let him attack Chris Cunningham all he wants... OTOH, that dispute seems more like a battle of wits than a series of personal attacks. Both editors have very strong opposing views on a specific subject and express themselves in strongly worded posts to get their points across. Been there, done that and worn the tee-shirt... I almost got hauled to ANI, in fact, a few months back! I have also made an arse of myself on several WikiProject talkpages. I thought I was right and said so bluntly... so bluntly, in fact, that I risked inflaming the situation. I have been guilty the other way also. Sometimes it takes a while to recognise that an edit that appears to be personal attack is actually nothing of the sort: the editor has just expressed themselves in a perhaps unhelpful manner. After all, we can't actually see each other to gauge the often very subtle nuances behind the words. Face to face, we can tell if the speaker is speaking literally, ironically, or a mixture of the two. (Conditions like Aspergers Syndrome make it more difficult even then, of course.) Here, we only get the words... --Jubileeclipman 22:26, 30 June 2010 (UTC)
BTW, the guy that almost took me to ANI is also posting at that page... --Jubileeclipman 22:33, 30 June 2010 (UTC)

The talk page is approx. 36kB, has 29 sections, 2 odf which have 5 or more comments, and has comments dating back to somewhere around 2007. Do you think I should archive some of it? Brambleclawx 17:34, 22 June 2010 (UTC)

On the contrary: I think you should archive all of it! You could perhaps keep Patriotic American holidays (as it is only 19 days old) and Sound files (for reference if any one is wondering where that file I deleted went...) The rest can certainly go, though, IMO: the third youngest section, Most used version, was created in January by an IP is still unanswered --Jubileeclipman 19:34, 22 June 2010 (UTC)

Policy Review

Hi Jubilee... just wondering if your still reviewing Manual of Style? also wondered if you'd noticed the recent moving of MOS. Im not sure what the whole point was tbh... regards, Lil-unique1 (talk) 02:06, 23 June 2010 (UTC)

I am indeed: I just merged WP:Manual of Style (MUSTARD) into MOS:MUSIC (leaving out the redundant sections). I left MUSTARD intact but marked it Historical. The MoS pages were moved (by Gnevin) to "Wikipedia:Manual of Style (foo)[/subpage]" after a lot of debate at the main MoS talkpage in order to make all the names follow a consistent pattern. I still have a fair amount of work to do to tidy up the Music MoS after the merge but the bulk of the work has been done, I think --Jubileeclipman 07:39, 23 June 2010 (UTC)

MoS document history

In past discussions on the MoS talk page, concern has been expressed at various times about the lack of clear visibility of the status history of MoS-related pages, such as how, why and when they became part of the MoS. A recent conversation began an initiative to do something about it, but is in danger of fizzling out. This may be simply because folks are busy on other things. As a major contributor to recent MoS rationalization efforts, any contribution you could make to the discussion would be welcome, to help us come to a clear conclusion about whether to go with this or drop it. PL290 (talk) 08:05, 25 June 2010 (UTC)

Stuff I said

Does the advice I gave to Sir Francis on my talk page look any good to you? Brambleclawx 22:09, 26 June 2010 (UTC)

Seems fine. You might need to keep an eye on Category:Wikipedia sockpuppets of Sir Francis Drake (not really!), though... and expect another version of this user to pop up somewhere. I'll keep an eye out also. Cheers --Jubileeclipman 22:51, 26 June 2010 (UTC)

How did I forget about that? And I thought the issue had nothing to do with zooming in? Brambleclawx 23:13, 26 June 2010 (UTC)

Either version works for me but then again I have a very wide screen. I'd forgotten about the Princess being on Wikibreak actually and was wondering where she had got to my self! Anyway, she's back now --Jubileeclipman 23:55, 26 June 2010 (UTC)

Yep, I'm back! Just so you know, it wasn't an optional thing. I was on vacation and did not have any Internet access the whole time. Anyhow, it's gonna take awhile to get back into the swing of things. BCx, the section with your userboxes (on the draft) runs into the bottom of the borders. That's the only thing I saw on a quick lookover. PrincessofLlyr royal court 00:00, 27 June 2010 (UTC)
Great! Nothing major to report, as far as I am aware --Jubileeclipman 00:11, 27 June 2010 (UTC)
I may not have mentioned it yet to you two, but Princess and Jubilee, you may edit my "newuserpage" and help out with its redesign. Brambleclawx 22:37, 28 June 2010 (UTC)
Ditto my present userpage! I think your new page is pretty good as it is, actually. It certainly looks very neat and logical. Not sure what I can do to enhance it further. Maybe add some of your mates to the background? I am surprised the fish is still there, actually! --Jubileeclipman 19:37, 29 June 2010 (UTC)

The mislabelled organ piece

Hello, I've just received a reply from David Schrader about the mislabelled sound file that I mentioned in this refdesk query. He said that "the "movement in question was improvised on the spot, something that we know that Mr. Handel did frequently. I added it as a bit of an entremet, as it were, in order to underline the spontaneity of the Handel concertos". I'm going to ask for it to be renamed to File:Organ improvisation by David Schrader.ogg, and for the other files to be renamed. Graham87 04:23, 16 July 2010 (UTC)

GOCE July 2010 backlog elimination drive chart

Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors Backlog Elimination Drive! We have now passed the halfway point, so here's an update.

Progress Report - Progress toward the targets has been good. 751 articles out of the approximately 1,600 we would like to get completed by the end of the month were done by July 15, so we will be very close to meeting the target for volume. However, we would like to clear all of the 2008 articles from the backlog, and there are still 892 left to do. Please consider choosing one of these older articles when looking for something to copy edit. If we focus our firepower we can completely wipe out 2008 from the queue.

Participation Report - 95 people signed up for the July drive. This is a great result compared to May, when we had 36. However, in May only one person that signed up didn't do any copy edits, and in July only 59 of the 95 have posted any copy edits on the big board.

The task may seem insurmountable but please remember that if all 95 participants copy edit just one article a day from now until the end of the month, we will eliminate 1,300 more articles from the backlog. So please consider participating at whatever level you can! All contributions are appreciated.

This newsletter was prepared for the GOCE by Diannaa (Talk), S Masters (talk), and The Raptor Let's talk.

GOCE Backlog Elimination Drive Wrap-up

Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors July 2010 Backlog Elimination Drive. Thanks to all who participated in the drive! Over 100 editors—including Jimbo Wales—signed up this time (nearly triple the participants of the May drive). This benefited the Guild as well as the articles in need of copy editing. You can see from the comparison graphs that we increased the number of completed copyedits substantially. Unfortunately, we were not able to meet our goal of completely wiping out 2008 from the queue. We also were not able to reduce the backlog to less than 6,000 articles. We suspect people were busy with real life summertime things, at least in the northern hemisphere! We were able to remove the months of January, February, March, April, and May from the backlog, and we almost wiped out the month of June. We reduced the backlog by 1,289 articles (17%), so all in all it was a very successful drive, and we will be holding another event soon. We'll come up with some new ideas to try to keep things fresh and interesting. Keep up the good work, everybody!

Stats
If you copy edited at least 4,000 words, you qualify for a barnstar. If you edited in the May 2010 GOCE Backlog Elimination Drive, your word totals are cumulative for barnstars (not the leaderboard). Over the course of the next week or two, we will be handing out the barnstars.

September 2010 drive today!

The Guild of Copy-Editors – September 2010 Backlog Elimination Drive

The Wikipedia Guild of Copy-Editors invite you to participate in the September 2010 Backlog Elimination Drive, a month-long effort to reduce the backlog of articles that require copy-editing. The drive will begin on 1 September at 00:00 (UTC) and will end on 30 September at 23:59 (UTC). The goals for this drive are to eliminate 2008 from the queue and to reduce the backlog to fewer than 5,000 articles.

Sign-up has already begun at the September drive page, and will be open throughout the drive. If you have any questions or concerns, please leave a message on the drive's talk page.

Before you begin copy-editing, please carefully read the instructions on the main drive page. Please make sure that you know how to copy-edit, and be familiar with the Wikipedia Manual of Style.

Awards and barnstars
A range of barnstars will be awarded to active participants. Some are exclusive to GoCE drives. More information on awards can be found on the main drive page.

Thank you; we look forward to meeting you on the drive!

PediaPress renderer for Wikipedia Books

I thought you might be interested in this. Basically, this would give you access to the PediaPress renderer used to print books and should allow you to review book as they would be printed (minus covers). If you find errors and problems, please report them at Help:Books/Feedback.

You either received this message because

  • You edited several books
  • You are part of WikiProject Wikipedia-Books. (If you aren't, please free free to join in. We'll take any help we can.)

Suspended chord / Jazz chord example

Hi, you may remember your comment here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Suspended_chord#Jazz_chord_example I agree with your observation that the chord is incorrect, but it may be difficult to do something about this example as some editors over there seem completely clueless about music theory. Maybe you want to take a look at this talk page again.

Best regards. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 217.85.183.96 (talk) 23:27, 16 October 2010 (UTC)

GOCE copy edit drive

Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors Backlog Elimination Drive!

The Wikipedia Guild of Copy-Editors invites you to participate in the November 2010 Backlog Elimination Drive, a month-long effort to reduce the backlog of articles that require copy-editing. The drive will begin on 1 November at 00:00 (UTC) and will end on 30 November at 23:59 (UTC). The goal for this drive is to reduce the backlog by 10% (approximately 500 articles). We hope to focus our efforts on the oldest three months (January, February, and March 2009) and the newest three months (September, October, and November 2010) of articles in the queue.

Sign-up has already begun at the November drive page, and will be open throughout the drive. If you have any questions or concerns, please leave a message on the drive's talk page.

Before you begin copy-editing, please carefully read the instructions on the main drive page. Please make sure that you know how to copy-edit, and be familiar with the Wikipedia Manual of Style.

Awards and barnstars

A range of barnstars will be awarded to active participants, some of which are exclusive to GOCE drives. More information on awards can be found on the main drive page.

Thank you; we look forward to meeting you on the drive!

Taskforce?

"Wikipedia Styleguide Taskforce." What, do you have guns, and everything? For 13,427 edits, you sure is packing plenty of ammunition. When will the Wikipedia Police arrive? Forgive my black humour, but this the beginning of the end. You will try to control, and you will eventually destroy, everything that Wikipedia was, and should have been.--andreasegde (talk) 23:02, 2 November 2010 (UTC)

Jubileeclipman is currently busy. In fact, this message seems quite out of place, seeing as he hasn't edited once since early July. Brambleclawx 00:10, 4 November 2010 (UTC)

Hello Jubileeclipman, I am attempting to revive Wikipedia:WikiProject Music theory. I hope you will be able to participate in the project. Just a note, I'm sure Jubilee would be glad to participate if he were still around. He has been experiencing some computer problems and RL responsibilities and has not been active for quite awhile. PrincessofLlyr royal court 13:45, 14 December 2010 (UTC)

Question re :article for Alison Kay

Hi Jubileeclipman,

I notice that you said you might do an article on Alison Kay composer. I am happy to provide some text if you are able to put it up on Wikipedia. The reason I asked to have the other text removed was because it said things about my contract with RCM - I didn't really mind that the rest had been lifted from my text. Obviously it is in my best interests to have an article up and running. Let me know. I am not sure how we make contact here having only just joined but I shall check this page again in a few days.

Best wishes,

Alison Kay — Preceding unsigned comment added by Alison.kay5 (talkcontribs) 16:01, 16 January 2011 (UTC)

Hello Alison Kay. I'm not Jubileeclipman, but I think it might be important to point out to you that Jubileeclipman has been inactive since the summer of 2010, due to personal reasons. So he probably will not be able to respond to this comment. It may help to find another person who may have expressed interest in writing the article to help you. I replied to you here'. Perhaps a discussion can be had as to why the composer's name is spelled there. Thanks.
