Dazzle Vision[edit]

While I do agree that one or more of my sources behind adding Dazzle Vision to the list of screamo bands do not meet the WP:RS, I do however know that both articles describe the band as Screamo. I have also uploaded sound bites of two Dazzle Vision as well and they are screamo, trust me. If you would like, I will expand my sources search and get more references stating that the band is Screamo. KaseyVincent (talk) 23:10, 1 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

It's not me; beside's Wikipedia requiring (read WP:RS and WP:V if you haven't already), screamo is such a contentious genre that artists are constantly getting removed by unregistered users, and if there's no reliable source accompanying the entry, they're fully allowed to do that.
Also, it's not more references you need so much as better ones. I just ran a Google search, and most of the "sources" I found were copies of one of the band's press releases (not usable under WP:PRIMARY). Even one or two sources would be enough, so long as they're reliable and verify the claim made.--Invisiboy42293 (talk) 00:46, 2 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on File:Nine Lashes in Kansas.JPG requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F9 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the image appears to be a blatant copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted images or text borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If you think that the page was nominated in error, contest the nomination by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion" in the speedy deletion tag. Doing so will take you to the talk page where you can explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but do not hesitate to add information that is consistent with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. Walter Görlitz (talk) 23:51, 27 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The real problem with that image was that the name of the uploader is not the same as the one in Flikr, while the Anberlin image has the same name. I will nominate it because I said I would, but I don't expect it to be deleted.
On a completely separate note, that was an amazing picture. Great eye and timing. --Walter Görlitz (talk) 07:09, 28 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
And that file is actually on WikiCommons and not actually on English Wikipedia, and their copyright rules are a bit different. Will follow-up though. --07:22, 28 July 2012 (UTC)
And there it states: "This image was originally posted to Flickr by TOMMY AU PHOTO at http://flickr.com/photos/12217707@N03/5522781506. It was reviewed on 13 March 2011 by the FlickreviewR robot and confirmed to be licensed under the terms of the cc-by-2.0." --Walter Görlitz (talk) 07:24, 28 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I re-uploaded the image to Wikimedia Commons, so hopefully that will help with some of the issues that got it deleted. For now, I'll wait until it's been reviewed by someone there before adding it back to the article.--Invisiboy42293 (talk) 04:37, 29 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Re: This Runs Through[edit]

The article was PRODded before and also AfD'ed. The PROD happened earlier this year, which, as a matter of procedure, makes the article ineligible for a second PROD. The AfD was carried out in 2008; since then, the article was re-created. Oftentimes, this would qualify it for speedy deletion under G4, but this new article was worked on by other editors, who added additional materials and sources; since it no longer resembles the deleted version, it'd have to have a second AfD to be deleted. Since the band qualifies under a couple of bullet points of WP:MUSIC as notable, I have contested the PRODs and would vote to keep in AfD, but you are of course free to act as you see fit. Deletion discussion about Chemy Soibelman[edit]

Hello, Invisiboy42293,

I wanted to let you know that there's a discussion about whether Chemy Soibelman should be deleted. Your comments are welcome at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Chemy Soibelman .

If you're new to the process, articles for deletion is a group discussion (not a vote!) that usually lasts seven days. If you need it, there is a guide on how to contribute. Last but not least, you are highly encouraged to continue improving the article; just be sure not to remove the tag about the deletion nomination from the top.

Speedy deletion nomination of UpKeep Technologies[edit]

Hello Invisiboy42293,

I wanted to let you know that I just tagged UpKeep Technologies for deletion, because it seems to be promotional, rather than an encyclopedia article.

If you feel that the article shouldn't be deleted and want more time to work on it, you can contest this deletion, but please don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top.

You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions. Thanks!

DS alert: Arab-Israeli conflict[edit]

This is a standard message to notify contributors about an administrative ruling in effect. It does not imply that there are any issues with your contributions to date.

You have shown interest in the Arab–Israeli conflict. Due to past disruption in this topic area, a more stringent set of rules called discretionary sanctions is in effect. Any administrator may impose sanctions on editors who do not strictly follow Wikipedia's policies, or the page-specific restrictions, when making edits related to the topic.

For additional information, please see the guidance on discretionary sanctions and the Arbitration Committee's decision here. If you have any questions, or any doubts regarding what edits are appropriate, you are welcome to discuss them with me or any other editor.

Gut voch, just notifying you of this as some of the content at the excellent Jews and punk rock falls within the above topic. signed, Rosguill talk 02:29, 20 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

January 2023[edit]

Information icon Hello, I'm Toddst1. I noticed that you made an edit concerning content related to a living (or recently deceased) person on Chemy Soibelman, but you didn't support your changes with a citation to a reliable source. It's been removed and archived in the page history for now. Wikipedia has a very strict policy concerning how we write about living people, so please help us keep such articles accurate and clear. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you! Toddst1 (talk) 22:24, 22 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hey Todd. First off, I've been an editor here for over 15 years - you don't need to give me the standard newbie editor template, you can just talk to me straight.
Second, I'm claiming expertise here as someone directly familiar with Orthodox Judaism (raised in it since I was 10 and still part of the community). There are cultural signifiers that people in that community will immediately recognize as marking someone as an Orthodox Jew without them needing to explicitly say "I am an Orthodox Jew" - for example, this Instagram post where the subject is wearing a kippah and tefillin and using Orthodox-specific phrases like daven, Hashem, gan eden, and zecher tzar livracha in the caption. I can use that Instagram post as a source if you'd prefer, but as someone part of that community, it is extremely self-evident to those who would be in the know enough to look up the subject that he is an Orthodox Jew. Invisiboy42293 (talk) 22:59, 22 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
So, as a 15 year veteran, you would know that your reasoning above is WP:OR. Apparently not. Toddst1 (talk) 01:49, 24 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Using knowledge of a given field or subculture to understand the context of a source in ways that other editors might not is not WP:OR - I am not inventing anything that anyone familiar with the culture could not glean from that source. The same way that someone familiar with punk rock would know the appropriate sources and context for an article on a punk band, or someone familiar with Indian culture would for an article on that. This is something Wikipedia editors do all the time, something they are encouraged to do. I refer you to WP:NOTOR#Translation and contextualizing, particularly the third bullet. Invisiboy42293 (talk) 05:59, 24 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
The WP:BURDEN to prove it's not WP:OR is on you. That's done with a citation. Toddst1 (talk) 20:17, 25 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
1) I literally just linked to a policy page proving that what I'm describing does not fall under WP:OR, and 2) I have provided a citation, in the form of the post I linked before from the subject's Instagram showing him wearing tefillin and using terminology that directly identify him as Orthodox to anyone who knows that culture. For comparison, this is the equivalent of if a subject who had exclusively been a member of Christian bands made a public post showing them attending church, with a caption discussing their love of Jesus and God and the Bible and the close relationship they had with their pastor, and you objected to it being a source for the subject being Christian because it doesn't explicitly have the words "I am a Christian".
I'm happy to add that Instagram post to the article as a source to resolve this dispute, but as I've demonstrated, Wikipedia considers it WP:NOTOR to summarize a source based on knowledge of cultural context or native language. Something isn't OR just because a source doesn't explicitly spell it out in those exact words. Invisiboy42293 (talk) 21:03, 25 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Something isn't OR just because a source doesn't explicitly spell it out Yeah, you're somewhere between WP:OR and WP:SYN. Just because he talks about jewish holidays or wears garb that jewish people sometimes wear doesn't mean he's jewish. From WP:SYN Do not combine material from multiple sources to reach or imply a conclusion not explicitly stated by any source. You need a source that says he's jewish. You really, really should know this. Toddst1 (talk) 00:14, 26 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
That is literally not what I'm doing, as I already explained. Directly quoting from WP:NOTOR under the "Translation and contextualizing" heading:
"Sources may be written in a fictional, nationalistic, religious or other narrow context. Material from these sources incorporated into Wikipedia must be placed in a broader, more encyclopedic context; this is different from taking things out of context. For example: material written in a fictional context needs to be described in an out of universe perspective; material written from a localized or nationalistic perspective must be presented in a perspective consistent with a world-wide viewpoint; religious dogma must be characterized as such, and not presented as accepted fact outside of that religion. This is not original research when good editorial judgment is used." (emphasis added) Again, using context to properly interpret a source is neither OR nor SYNTH.
And to be clear, this is not a case of "Jewish people sometimes say/do this" - tefillin are worn exclusively by religious Jews, expressions like "hashem took ur neshama to gan eden amen" (God took your soul to paradise, Amen), "daven for klal yisreal" (pray for the Jewish people), "Bh" (common abbreviation for "Baruch Hashem" or "Praise God", and "zecher tzar livracha - may your neshama have an aliya" (your righteous memory should be a blessing, may your soul ascend) are all phrases exclusively associated with Orthodox Jews, and plenty of sources and sociological research supports this. Unless you contend that the guy is secretly a Messianic (which is a way more audacious claim and would very much require a source on your part), there is no way for an educated person to look at this source, combined with the context of everything else known about the subject, and not conclude that the guy is an Orthodox Jew.
Not all synthesis is SYNTH. SYNTH would require a conclusion that is not verifiable from the source - which is not the case here for anyone knowledgeable about this culture. If you'd like to run this by other Orthodox Jewish Wikipedians to verify anything I've said, you're more than welcome (unless you'd like to assume expertise in this culture, which wouldn't be very WP:NPOV of you). Invisiboy42293 (talk) 02:28, 26 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I also have to say, the fact that you're pulling this same exact nonsense on two different articles of mine, one of which is still a draft and the other based on an obscure musician, makes me really skeptical that you're acting in good faith here. Invisiboy42293 (talk) 05:40, 26 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

February 2023[edit]

Stop icon You may be blocked from editing without further warning the next time you add unsourced or poorly sourced WP:DOBs to Wikipedia, as you did at Chrissy Chlapecka. As explained several times, WP:SYN says do not combine material from multiple sources to reach or imply a conclusion not explicitly stated by any source. Calculating an age is vastly different than synthesizing a WP:DOB from two sources. Toddst1 (talk) 04:52, 3 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

You still need to disclose who paid you to edit here per the Terms of Use: [1]. Toddst1 (talk) 15:20, 9 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The subjects of those articles paid a company called My Wiki Pro, and that company in turn paid me as a freelancer. As mentioned on my user page, I haven't worked for that company in nearly three years. I didn't formally disclose at the time because I was unsure of the exact process for doing so. (I'm sure you know how labyrinthine Wikipedia can be at times.) I'm actually still not entirely sure how to do it, so info on that would be helpful.
For whatever it's worth, I never had direct contact with any of the subjects, and both I and the company I worked for ensured that any content I wrote met Wikipedia guidelines for things like notability and reliable sourcing. Invisiboy42293 (talk) 22:41, 9 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Links to user pages and sandboxes[edit]

Information icon Please do not introduce links in actual articles to user pages or sandboxes, as you did at Jane Decker. Since these pages have not been accepted as articles, user pages, sandboxes and drafts are not suitable for linking in articles. and such links are contrary to the Manual of Style. These links have been deleted, please do not re-add any such links, thank you - Arjayay (talk) 12:00, 20 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for catching that! I was working on both that article and Belle Histoire in my userspace simultaneously and I thought I fixed all of the links when moving, but it sounds like I missed one. Invisiboy42293 (talk) 22:12, 20 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

March 2023[edit]

Stop icon You may be blocked from editing without further warning the next time you add unsourced or poorly sourced material to Wikipedia, as you did at Draft:Griffin Maxwell Brooks. I can't believe you're stil; synthesizing years of birth for living people from an age at a point in time. Do not combine material from multiple sources to reach or imply a conclusion not explicitly stated by any source. You've been warned and blocked for this already. Knock it off! Toddst1 (talk) 03:14, 20 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

  • SYNTH would be using both sources for the entire date, as I did before. Here, one source verifies the day of birth, and one verifies the year. Each source affirms the claim that it is placed after.
  • It was established by another editor in our previous Arbitration over Chrissy Chlapecka that the concern was not SYNTH, but whether it could be seen as violating the subject's privacy (which it decidedly is not when the subject has openly divulged their age and birthday on public platforms).
  • Draft articles are not subject to the same standard as mainspace articles, as they are unfinished works in progress
Do you seriously have nothing better to do than harass me over this? Invisiboy42293 (talk) 03:31, 20 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, draft articles, talk pages and anything else here is subject to WP:BLP. BLP applies to material about living persons in other articles and on other pages. I wouldn't try to WP:WIKILAWYER this if I were you. Don't believe me? Keep it up and enjoy your block. Toddst1 (talk) 03:56, 20 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
First off, far as I can tell you're not an admin so you have no authority to threaten me with a block, much less from my own userspace. If you'd like to complain to one of the admin noticeboards about me then be my guest, although I feel pretty confident that'll turn out worse for you than for me. Also the broad application of WP:BLP is meant for things that could be libelous or otherwise spread damaging information - not whether someone's publicly known birthday is sourced correctly. Invisiboy42293 (talk) 04:23, 20 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
WP:DOB says you have no idea what you're talking about. You really should read it. I've tried to explain it more than a few times but you're obviously not even trying to understand. Toddst1 (talk) 14:27, 20 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I do understand - I just happen to think you're wildly misapplying guidelines in ways and contexts they weren't intended for, focused specifically on my edits for some reason. If you really think my interpretation of Wikipedia guidelines is wrong, feel free to head to the noticeboards and get an admin to weigh in; I'm more than happy to share my side of things and get a conclusive ruling. But I'm tired of this petty talk page back-and-forth and I'm not going to edit war with you anymore. Either get an admin to tell me off for my supposedly grievous misbehavior, or leave me alone. Because right now you're really violating this rule, and that's the nicest way I can put it. Invisiboy42293 (talk) 18:36, 20 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Request[edit]

Hi!!!!! You did a wonderful job beefing up corook and I really appreciate that. I was wondering, since queer indie music tiktokers seem to be of interest, if you’d be willing to try beefing up Leith Ross (singer). It is unfortunately being threatened with deletion which seems bonkers to me because We’ll Never Have Sex was everywhere for awhile. I just have been struggling with mustering enough energy to attempt to save it. Thanks for your consideration and for helping the corook piece! ❤️ Elttaruuu (talk) 14:40, 16 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

No problem! 💖 And absolutely, I took a look at the article and left an opposing message in the deletion discussion since, from what I can tell, this person meets WP:BAND on multiple counts. I'll at the very least do a sweep of the references to improve the formatting, and if I have the energy I'll try to beef it up like I did the corook article.
Also if you're interested, there's a WikiProject dedicated to TikTok coverage, it's unfortunately semi-active right now but it might be a good way to get involved with more articles like this! ❤ Invisiboy42293 (talk) 21:40, 16 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Also for future reference, it might be good to demo articles like these either in your sandbox or in a drafts. That can give you time to properly format stuff, do all the sourcing, write more, etc. without immediately getting scrutinized for notability. Believe me I know from experience lol Invisiboy42293 (talk) 21:50, 16 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

AfC notification: Draft:Eleri Ward has a new comment[edit]

I've left a comment on your Articles for Creation submission, which can be viewed at Draft:Eleri Ward. Thanks! — Ingenuity (talk • contribs) 01:31, 19 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the heads-up! That makes sense, I'd encountered them on other articles I've made since starting this draft and had a feeling they weren't the most reliable. Thankfully there's more than enough coverage from Playbill and other sources to make up the difference. Invisiboy42293 (talk) 01:37, 19 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedian, its too dangerous to go alone. Take this with you, on your travels?[edit]

I know I just like gifting virtual rewards, but what the heck? Besides, I'm kinda new to Wikipedia (unless I have time to study my fave Wikipedia book; "The Art of Wikipedia: How not to heck up nor get blocked", although I wish it was real ;-;) Have a great time! Speedy deletion nomination of Eleri Ward[edit]

Hello Invisiboy42293,

I wanted to let you know that I just tagged Eleri Ward for deletion, because it's a redirect from an article title to a namespace that's not for articles.

If you don't want Eleri Ward to be deleted, you can contest this deletion, but don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top.

You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions. Thanks!

Blondshell[edit]

hi invisiboy42293,

i manage Blondshell and we are so thrilled to have you as a fan. when she was really young, as BAUM, she did a few interviews and revealed personal details that she's not comfortable sharing with the world anymore. obviously, anyone can google and find these articles, but in the interest of protecting her privacy, we really would prefer to keep some of the unsavory stuff about her family and past struggles off her wikipedia. it looks like you keep adding them back, but maybe we can find a way to not have them here? totally respect your approach to carefully curated wikipedias, but i hope you can understand the impact here, human-to-human. you can find my email address super easily and if you want, i'd be happy to take this to email, as well as send you blondshell merch/records/tickets. lemme know what you think.

Hi Shira,
I want to be clear, on a human level I absolutely get where you and your client are coming from, and I definitely don't mean to cause any undue distress. However, it's important to note that Wikipedia is meant to be an objective encyclopedia with a neutral point of view (and is not meant to simply promote the subject), and sometimes that means including unflattering or unpleasant information (when notable and relevant) even if the subject would prefer it not be there. Obviously there are exceptions - particularly with regard to privacy concerns - but like you mentioned, these interviews are publicly available and anyone with Google could find them. I can consult some other Wikipedia editors to get their opinion on this (and if there are legitimate safety concerns involved obviously that's very different), but I'm sorry to say, at least as it stands, I don't think I could convincingly justify removing that information. Yotzeret Sheydim moved to draftspace[edit]

An article you recently created, Yotzeret Sheydim, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more in-depth coverage about the subject itself, with citations from reliable, independent sources in order to show it meets WP:GNG. It should have at least three, to be safe. And please remember that interviews, as primary sources, do not count towards GNG.(?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page.Onel5969 TT me 10:33, 23 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Appreciated! For the record, I did mean for the bullets to be converted to prose; I was honestly kinda hoping submitting to AfC might attract more editors to help write the article quicker, although I recognize that's not the typical way to do that. Ways to improve Banshee (musician)[edit]

Hello, Invisiboy42293,

Thank you for creating Banshee (musician).

I have tagged the page as having some issues to fix, as a part of our page curation process and note that:

This is a good piece of writing. Broad and in-depth. However, it relies too heavily on quotations. Consider re-phrasing some of these in order to achieve a more encyclopedic tone, especially some of the longer ones.

The tags can be removed by you or another editor once the issues they mention are addressed. If you have questions, leave a comment here and begin it with {{Re|IceBergYYC}}. Remember to sign your reply with ~~~~. For broader editing help, please visit the Teahouse.

Delivered via the Page Curation tool, on behalf of the reviewer.

IceBergYYC (talk) 05:53, 8 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the feedback! I just went through the article to cut down on all the quotations, and according to the Copyvio bot it seems to be an acceptable amount now. I think the template can be removed now but let me know if there are any other issues. Invisiboy42293 (talk) 02:04, 9 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
