David E. Siegel, The Man from CSICOPS[edit]

We are very close to resolving this amiably and all of us getting on with more important issues. Someone, I suspect it's David Siegel, keeps putting inflammatory false comments into the article itself because he is angry and wants revenge. Whoever it was cited Art G's words as if I had written them. I never used "death penalty" for example. None of that belongs in the article. It looks as though CH opted out weeks ago and now the only agent provocateur is the Man from CSICOPs, David Siegel. I am sure that my Russian friends watching this will be reminded of Stalinist repression and the Gulag.

WMD & Dark Energy Stability of the Electron & Hadrons[edit]

1. Ken Shoulders bottles some exotic vacuum energy.

(PRWEB) September 1, 2004 -- Experimentalist Ken Shoulders claims that electrons are behaving in ways thought to be impossible. A new and previously unknown force appears to be binding the electrons at short range into clusters of electron charge. Shoulders calls these clusters Exotic Vacuum Objects, or EVO's.

Shoulders describes this as "a short-range force resembling a positive charge negating the effect of repulsive electronic charge"

One of Ken Shoulder's latest papers suggests nefarious uses for charged cluster technology based on EVO's:

"The author can easily imagine a scenario where instructions are generated with enough clarity for about 1 person in 1,000 to perform the necessary operations to refine and store a gallon jug of electrons in the form of Exotic Vacuum Objects (EVO's) ... there is no doubt that this jug would be light enough to carry and be highly sensitive to destabilization of a catastrophic nature..."

Ken Shoulders has recently collaborated on several papers with independent theoretical physicist Dr. Jack Sarfatti, in San Francisco. Sarfatti suggests that his theory of exotic vacuum dark energy/dark matter can explain Shoulders' experimental data.

Although Sarfatti hopes for carefully controlled release of energy from the EVO's, both Sarfatti and Shoulders warn that rapid release of a large EVO would be explosive, perhaps more powerful than a thermonuclear device.

2. Who Is Ken Shoulders?

a. Long-time associate of Hal Puthoff. Both worked in US Intelligence Community for years. b. Brilliant gadgeteer with small microwave devices, holds several important patents. c. Ken's opinions are taken seriously in the USG Defense Intelligence Community. d. Pressure is mounting for Shoulders, Sarfatti and Puthoff to write a joint paper together showing conflicting models of the phenomenon.

3. Puthoff Model: Positive pressure outside, zero pressure inside, w = 1/3

Puthoff uses a model of Casimir's "Type II" in which there is a positive zero point energy pressure outside the thin shell of electrons and vanishing zero point pressure inside it. Sarfatti says Casimir made an error by assuming that the well known "dubya factor" (i.e. w = (pressure)/(energy density)) is +1/3, which it is for real photons propagating energy to infinity as electromagnetic radiation.

4. Sarfatti Model: Zero pressure outside, negative pressure inside, w = -1

Sarfatti objects that w = -1 for the virtual photons of the zero point vacuum fluctuations. That w = -1 for this case is well known to cosmologists working on the "dark energy" (e.g. Mike Turner's Op/Ed in April 2003 Physics Today).

"w = -1 follows from Einstein's equivalence principle together with Heisenberg's uncertainty principle. Furthermore, boson statistics require a positive virtual photon energy density, therefore an equal and opposite negative virtual photon pressure. Virtual quanta are directly observable in their warping of spacetime. You cannot subtract them out. The pressure warps space-time three times more than the energy density. The negative pressure makes repulsive anti-gravity that is the 'Right Stuff' for weightless warp drives, wide wormholes and, unfortunately 'universe destroying' weird weapons." said Sarfatti. Sarfatti cited Sir Martin Rees's book Our Final Hour on this subject.

5. Break the bottle to create Cold Fusion.

Sarfatti's model is the mirror opposite of Puthoff's. "The zero point pressure is negative inside the thin shell of typically a trillion to ten thousand trillion electrons in the observed EVOs 10-5 cm to 10-5 meters across and is zero outside. Negative zero point pressure makes the vacuum like a spring and the electric repulsion does work against the vacuum to create a metastable EVO. The electrons make a bottle or container for the anti-gravity dark energy vacuum core of the EVO. Break the bottle to release the Dark Energy Genie as 'Cold Fusion'. Mike Turner wrote that it couldn't be done, apparently Ken Shoulders has done what was thought to be an impossible dream." says Sarfatti.

Not everyone will catch every nuance, or understand immediately the significance of a new combination of ideas as he lays them bare on the table, but Jack Sarfatti is at work, day after day, catching new fish, deftly filleting each and cooking up a warm theoretical meal for any who would attend.

Not everyone has to be a mountain climber to appreciate difficult climbs by such a master physicist with great reach of theoretical understanding and knowledge from the Ordinary as well as the less Ordinary Wells of Physical Thought.

Personally, I am only a defector, once encouraged by Hans Mark (who was a past NASA Ames director, who later was Secretary of the USAF and did much with respect to UCB, LLNL and DoD) - but I, a dropout, defected from Physics, as I became flushed into the swamps of industrial mathematics and finally ended up in petroleum reservoir engineering/simulation. Yes, I was a 'Drop Out', but sometimes I wish I'd kept to the Physics Road, found per chance the opportunity of making a name for myself, but on reflection it was wise for me to leave mountain climbing to Champions with real talent and skill, like Jack Sarfatti, Theoretical Physicist at the Frontiers of Human Knowledge and Understanding.

Many ideas a Good Scientist will have. Many of these an Outstanding Theoretician will Investigate. Like a few gold nuggets waiting finding in a mountain stream, they are, but most do not completely pan out. Still skill in the searching improves. And the Nuggets Do get found from time to time. And THAT is the reward which a dedicated, and a self-supporting, Theoretical Physicist, Jack Sarfatti, gets from doing his life's work on his own accord with Nature.

Some nuggets are worth rejoicing for themselves, but most are just the tantalizers, indicating there is better to be found. Some are only Copper, or flecks of Iron Pyrites, not Gold at all, yet the Search is Magnificent, and the Scope of Opportunity Grand.

To make the Journey, as the Leader of the Expedition, a Man of Courage and Conviction, that He Will Find the Way, is essential.

And THAT is how I would analogize Dr. Jacob Sarfatti's completely public pursuit of Fundamental Physics at the Edge of Knowledge:

A man with the Dedication of a Prophet, the Skill of a Prospector, the Theoretical Agility of a Dalles Sheep, a Visionary who would Expand Mankind's Hand and Mind to the STARS in pursuit of the Way of the Universe, yet who would educate all and any who would read and think and learn, as to his thoughts and attempts to Breech the Frontier to find The Mother Lode - that is how I see a non-tenured, non-pensioned, non-institutionally nested, Public Hero of Scientific Exploration: Dr. Jack Sarfatti.

Unlike the many Institutional, safely tenured, Academics who are PAID, more or less by Society in General through Gov't Grants to Universities, to Research and Teach, Jack Sarfatti has, before my watching eyes of a number of years, developed many theoretical thrusts PUBLICLY, and at his own expense of time and wealth, on The Internet.

That he does such is a expression of Optimism for the Future, the Human Future, the Coming Generations, as well as Courage, and all such as he still keeps the Interested Public up to date.

This is a Labor of Love for Science and its propagation which I suspect few secretive Academics could indulge in, afraid as they are of being 'scooped' in every potential small discovery.

With mixes of calm, careful attempts at explanation to the doubting or the misunderstanding, as well as the encouraging and faithful, these attempts are punctuated by humanly fits of frustration, with occasional raucous catcalls exchanged with detractors, some with quotes and analogies from his large theatrical music and poetic repertoire, yet Dr. Jacob Sarfatti Time and Again Bests, or least Bemuses and Cajoles, a number of would-be detractors, some of whom have even found then a nugget or two, and a moment of satori for themselves.

More men like Jacob Sarfatti should dwell upon this Earth, that the search for understanding and truth, freely and publicly made available to any who would listen and learn, would be furthered.

Yes, back to Uncle Ed. There are matters of general policy here:

1. Defamatory words like "crank", "kook", "crackpot" should be banned by Wikipedia as they are literally used in the commission of hate crimes against dissident minorities. They EMOTIONALLY mean the same as "Kike", "Nigger", "FAGGOT" et-al. I and others like Nobel Prize winner Brian Josephson are persecuted for daring to write about the paranormal, about consciousness, about UFOS, about cold fusion (Brian's interest). We are automatically stereotyped as "kooks" by clueless fearful generally intellectual inferiors who mistake their inability to understand what is on the page as our fault. Rather than they rising to us, we are to stoop to their low level of achievement and keep away from Taboo Topics. Is that a Free Society? How is that better than 7th Century Talabanism? We dissident physicists and there are many in the closet are treated as second-class citizens without the same rights that the majority like CH pretends to stand for keep for themselves in a double standard. One can say "Jack Sarfatti's ideas are highly original and advanced and not easily understood by the majority of people who reject them." Something like that is accurate. If one says something negative then they must justify it with a precise quote with a name otherwise it is simply vicious defamation. It is simply a hate crime on the WEB. We live in a SYMBOLIC INFO NATION in CYBERSPACE. Words are everything. WORDS are WEAPONS! Soon Internet Law will evolve and the kinds of defamations of my character seen on these pages by dillettantes will be judged as HATE CRIMES like beating up a Gay Man or lynching a Black Man used to be. 3. Critiques should be COMPETENT, as DSiegel's is not when he cites Martin Gardner. A solid TEXTUAL justification is required like one must do as a grad student learning to do PhD research.

The basic issue here is QUALITY CONTROL, ACCURACY, FAIRNESS, JUSTICE.

were "incorrect" does that ipso facto make me into a crackpot? Not even Chris Hillman understood what the formula meant, though others who are real physicists, do. No not at all. There is nothing about my work since 1975. It still says I filed a patent application, which is not true. It does not mention that I gave up on that particular FTL design in 1991. It does not mention that I predicted the SUPER SOLID before Tony Leggett did. That is major. It does not mention most of my mainstream papers. All of that info and more was vandalized from the article by my enemies.

All that "kook" stuff should be removed. If you mention FBI get it right. What is on there now is false. The article as it stands now is unacceptible, it is incomplete, it contains false information, and it has too much negative spin. It is unbalanced. I have already given details. To be fair, the address involved is my work address (or more accurately my work address as it was several years ago, the details have changed, although not the general location) and I have publicly posted it on various web pages -- any google search on my name would retrive it, which i knew when i posted it. I do not feel threated by this use of my buisness street address. However it is IMO a poor practice, and it certianly could give the impression of an attempt at harrasment or stalking. I don't know if those were your intent, but I trust you can see how the impression could arise, and why this is generally considered undesireable here.

I choose to contribute to wikipedia under my real name, and to make it easy to find my real contact information. Please don't take action which would only encourage more people to contribute only under assumed handles. This would be quite unfortunate, IMO.

At 5:05 on November 22, 1977, regular television programming in southern England was interrupted by a voice claiming to be that of "Grahama," representative of the "Ashtar Galactic Command," bearing the usual "space brother" boilerplate of coming in peace to save us from ouselves at the dawn of a New Age. It was quickly dismissed as a hoax, but an extremely complicated one to execute.

Though the The Sunday Times the following December 4 surmised it was accomplished by students using just "£80 worth of equipment powered by an ordinary car battery," no one ever claimed responsibility, and independent investigations found that the message must have cut into at least five transmitters simultaneously,and it evaded detection by monitoring equipment which did not even register an interruption, "suggesting it was achieved in some way that by passed our electrical system."

This was actually the second message from Grahama. A month earlier, he had said pointedly that "We conveyed to Sir John Whitmore and to Dr. Puharich that we would interfere on your radio and television communication systems to relay when the civilisations are coming close to landing on your planet Earth. It is now in motion. We wish you to know that we love you."

That "Grahama" would single out the aristocratic former racing champion Whitmore and parapsychologist and MKULTRA researcher Andrija Puharich suggests this was no simple hoax: both men were deeply involved with a decades'-long channelled communication with entities representing a universal hierarchy sometimes called the "70 Brotherhoods of the Great White Brotherhood." The entities governing our reality identified themselves The Nine.

Another link to Whitmore and Puharich was British author Stuart Holyroyd's recently published Prelude to the Landing on Planet Earth, which the two had commissioned as an account of their work with the Nine. In the book, Holroyd wrote that the Nine intended to “interrupt televisionand radio transmissions during the period 18th to 22nd November.”

Regarding the television interruptions, Lynn Picknett and Clive Prince write in The Stargate Conspiracy that, "as usual, there were only two options considered: either the whole thing was genuine and extraterrestrials had really spoken to the southern English through their television sets; or it was hoax, just done for a laugh.The idea that such a message could be easily contrived by, for example, an intelligence agency that would have the necessary technical skills has never, to our knowledge, even been considered."

This seems a bizarre oversight given the circumstantial connections to Whitmore and Puharich, and especially the latter's service in Army Intelligence and later as a CIA contractor researching the induction of altered states of consciousness. (Whitmore, incidentally, is now also Britain's "number one business coach," training top executives from companies such as Barclays, Lloyds, Pricewaterhouse Coopers and Rolls Royce.) Uri Geller, for a time one of the Nine's channellers, told Picknett and Prince that "the CIA brought Puharich in to come and get me out of Israel," and in his essay In the Thick of It, physicist Jack Sarfatti writes that "Puharich was Geller's case officer in America with money provided by Sir John Whitmore."

Deep Space Nine[edit]

The "Council of Nine" have been delivering curiously consistent messages through a succession of mediums to influential patrons with names like DuPont, Astor and Bronfman since the early 1950s, and nearly always in the shadow of military intelligence. Until his death in 1995 Puharich made his home in that shadow, researching shamanic pharmacology and electronic mind control.

Initial contact was made during a sitting of Puharich's CIA cut-out "Round Table Foundation" on New Year's Eve, 1952, at precisely 9 p.m., when the entities disclosed themselves through the tranceivership of Dr DG Vinod asthe "Nine Principles or Forces."

In the early 1970s, Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry was a regular at the sessions of channeller Phylis Schlemmer to whom the Nine had revealed themselves through the manifestation of a spirit guide called "Tom." Schlemmer initially assumed Tom must be her grandfather Thomas, who died when she was a child. In September 1974 Roddenberry asked Tom the question, "To whom am I talking? Do you have a name?" Tom's reply, through the entranced Schlemmer, as quoted by Picknett and Price:

As you know, I am the spokesman for the Nine. But I also have another position,which I have with you in the project. I will try to give you names so you can understand in what you work and who we are. I may not pronounce who I am in a manner which you would understand because of the problem in the Being's [i.e., Schlemmer] brain, but I will explain so that the Doctor [Puharich] perhaps will understand. I am Tom, but I am also Harmarchis, I am also Harenkur, I am also known as Tum and I am known as Atum.

It took 22 years, and Gene Roddenberry, for the Nine to reveal themselves as The Nine, the Great Ennead of ancient Egypt: Atum, Shu, Tefnut, Geb, Nut, Osiris, Isis, Set and Nepthys. Their message amounts to, We're back, and now it's personal.

(How much the Nine may have influenced Roddenberry is unknown. His involvement began several years after the original Star Trek series was cancelled, but a character named Vinod pops up in an episode of Deep Space Nine entitled "Paradise.")

In 1954, with Puharich back in uniform and stationed at the US Army ChemicalCenter in Edgewood, Maryland, a young Dutch sculptor named Harry Stone was being tested at the Round Table for his psychometric powers. Handed an Egyptian pendant that had belonged to the mother of Akenaten, he fell into a trance, began uttering strange words and drawing hieroglyphics on a sheet of paper. In English he spoke of a drug that would open a gateway to the gods, and of entering an underground hall where a statue of a dog-headed man came tolife. Puharich was sent the drawings and a transcription of Stone's words,who took them to another Army doctor at Edgewood who, write Picknett and Prince, "just happened to be an expert in extremely rare and archaic forms of hieroglyphs", and to Puharich's surprise confirmed their authenticity. Stone had identified himself as Rahotep, and named his wife as Nefert, and mentioned the Pharoah Khufu.

Puharich was then astonished to discover that a man named Rahotep, married to Nefert, was known from Egyptian history, and likely lived under the reign of Khufu. Most significantly, Rahotephad been the High Priest of Heliopolis, the center of worship for the Nine,the Great Ennead.

The "gateway to the gods" proved a sacred mushroom. On one occasion when Puharich himself was hypnotizing Stone a Round Table trustee, Alice Bouverie, also fell into a trance and stated the mushroomwas the kind now known as amanita muscaria, and said a specimen could be found not far from the house. It was. In one of Stone's trances, writes Colin Wilson in Mysteries, "Rahotep demanded a mushroom and then, in the presence of Puharich and Aldous Huxley, applied it ritualistically to his tongue and the top of his head. When Stone woke up five minutes later, he was able to perform an ESP test with a 100% score and describe accurately what lay on the other side of a brick wall."

The Nine claim that something has gone wrong with humanity's "programming,"and so the Old Gods of Egypt, whose home is Sirius, are returning to reboot us. Humanity is supposedly the product of genetically-manipulated colonizers, whose first civilization arose in Tibet in 32,400 BC, but apparently not all humanity.

According to the Nine, there was one indigineous race already on the Earth - the black. According to "Tom,"the seeding of Earth by the Gods was an experiment to see how "the originals [the black races] would evolve in comparison with those that colonized. "The Nine say Hey, there's nothing wrong with that, but the teaching remains that it's only the non-black peoples of the Earth who have the divine programming. Also interestingly, the Nine have good things to say about most major American religions, including and especially Mormonism, and are quite fond of the teachings of Lucis Trust founder Alice Bailey, but singles out Islam for rebuke. "Tom" says Islam has been influenced by "the Fallen one, "and in his book The Keys of Enoch, channeller of the Nine James Hurtak calls Muslims the "Children of Darkness."

Any of this sound familiar? Perhaps its inversion might.

Remember the Prophet Yahweh? His cosmology is eerily similar to that of the Nine, yet stood on its head.His God Yahweh is also, like Tom/Atum, a spaceman, but the starseed is the black race. Both the Prophet Yahweh and the Nine's channellers have proclaimed the immanence of mass landings, and great devastation for those who refuse the lordship of the old-is-new gods. I don't know what's going on with the Nine, but a credulous reading of the story suggests a Freemasonic eschaton and the return of the original White Lodge from Sirius. If this isn't happening, then sinister forces - after all, Peter Levenda subtitled the first volume of his Grimoire of American Political Witchcraft "The Nine" - are conspiring to make it appear so, and it has been going on for over 50 years. Generations of leaders and scientists have risen to prominence under its influence. Dick Farley, former director of program development for the Human Potential Foundation , writes that the Nine maintain a "working network of physicists and psychics, intelligence operatives and powerful billionaires, who are less concerned about their 'source' and its weirdness than they are about having every advantage and new data edge in what they believe is a battle for Earth itself." Education

Sarfatti earned an undergraduate degree from Cornell University in 1960, where he wrote an honors thesis under the guidance of Hans Bethe. He went on to earn a Master's degree from UCSD in 1967, and a Ph.D. from UCR in 1969, writing a thesis under the direction of Fred Cummings. He taught at San Diego State and studied as a research fellow under David Bohm at the University of London before venturing into non-academic pursuits.

The conclusion of this lecture is that rapid space-travel, or travel back in time, can't be ruled out, according to our present understanding. They would cause great logical problems, so let's hope there's a Chronology Protection Law, to prevent people going back, and killing our parents. But science fiction fans need not lose heart. The second time George Wheeler saw a UFO was almost a year to the day later, on the evening of April 22, 1976. This time there was a noise. He heard it moments before the attack.

It all began when George, out on an evening's patrol, noticed an orange glow near the quarry at Tuttle Hill. "Looks like we got a fire out there," he radioed in. "I'm going to investigate."

When he drove to the crest of County Road P, he was high up enough to have an unobstructed view. To the north, over a flat hilltop alfalfa field, there it was. "My God, it's one of those UFO's again," he shouted into the police radio. But when he started to describe the craft, he was very calm, under control.

"It's huge," he explained over the radio to Chief Helmer's wife, Gail, who was working as a dispatcher that night. "Bigger than a two-story house." And he went on that it was silver-colored, perhaps 250 feet across, and that a bright orange beam glowed from its domed roof. The light was so powerful, he couldn't look straight at it. It hurt his eyes.

And just as he was describing this light, the craft started to rise. That was when he heard the loud whooshing noise. And, before he realized what was happening, a blue ray shot out from the craft. The ray hit the squad car.

The police radio instantly went dead. The chief's wife was yelling on the other end, "George, can you hear me? Are you all right?"

But George couldn't hear her. The car was a wreck. Its lights were out. Its points and spark plugs were ruined. And Officer Wheeler was unconscious.

David Moots, a dairy farmer, was driving the babysitter home when he noticed the squad car, its lights off, sitting in the middle of the road. He went over to investigate. He looked inside and saw George Wheeler sprawled across the front seat.

"George, you OK?" he asked.

The police officer didn't stir. Moots repeated his question.

This time George tried to move. He leaned forward from his seat, and then fell back. He didn't have any strength, and he looked white as milk.

"What's wrong, George?" Moots asked. He was really worried.

It took the officer some effort, but he finally managed to speak. "I've been hit. Get me to a radio." His voice, Moots noted, was shaking, full of fear.

"By a car?"

"No," George Wheeler answered very slowly and distinctly, "by one of those UFO's."

At just about the time David Moots discovered the dazed police officer, Gail Helmer was at the radio in Village Hall trying to figure out what was going on. She decided to call Paul Frederickson, a nursing home administrator, who lived just east of Tuttle Hill.

"Maybe you can look out your window, Paul, and tell me what you see. Anything unusual out there?" she asked.

It was after eleven and Frederickson was already in bed, but when a neighbor asks a favor - especially if she's the wife of the police chief - nobody in Elmwood complains too much. He went to his window.

"I saw this flaming orange object in the sky," Frederickson remembered. "It resembled a bright orange half-moon. I watched it for a full ten seconds and went back to the phone. By the time I returned to the window with my wife, the object was gone."

A few miles away, south of Tuttle Hill, Mrs. Miles Wergland was watching the eleven o'clock news on her bedroom television. Suddenly her set went black. Annoyed, she put on her slippers and trudged to the cantankerous television. She kept on pushing the on/off button. Nothing happened. And then she noticed the glorious light shining outside her bedroom window. The room was now pitch-dark but outside something was lighting up the sky - and it was moving. Its glow suddenly illuminated the bedroom. Bathed in this light, she went to the window and watched a spacecraft zoom silently across the night sky. "It was shaped like the moon, but was much brighter and colored differently," she remembered.

She watched it pass from sight, and when it was gone the television flashed back on.

UFO's - Seeing is Believing for Local Resident

The first sighting was also on Tuttle Hill near his home. It was April 22, 1976, and Paul Fredrickson was at home with his family. Around 11:00 p.m., he received a phone call from the police dispatcher, Gail Miley. The dispatcher asked Paul to look out his window toward the quarry that was located about 1 1/2 miles away, and report back what he saw. The dispatcher was concerned, because shortly before, George Wheeler, a former police chief of Elmwood and at that time on duty as a relief officer, had radioed in to the Pierce County Sheriff's Office, that he had seen a glow at the top of Tuttle Hill, where the quarry is located. Wheeler was concerned about a possible fire, and said he was going to investigate. The next time the dispatcher heard from Wheeler, he had reached the top of the hill, and reported he saw a UFO above the quarry. He started to describe the object when the radio went dead. That's when the dispatcher called Paul. From his window, Paul said he saw "a bright orange glow. It resembled a bright orange half-moon. I went back to the phone and by the time I returned to the window, it was gone." At about the same time, a neighbor, south of Tuttle Hill, saw something shaped like the moon above the quarry, but it was much brighter and colored differently.

Moments after these sightings occurred, a passing motorist came upon Wheeler's police car, parked with no lights on. The motorist noticed Wheeler with his car door open, and apparently dazed. Wheeler told the motorist he had been hit by a UFO. After recovering, Wheeler reported to local papers that he had seen a huge object, as high as a two story house, and about 250 feet across. It was silver colored, with an extremely bright orange light at the top. When the craft rose he said, a blue flash of light shot out. That's the last thing he remembered until the motorist found him. "I don't know what I saw," Wheeler reported, "but all I know is that I don't want that experience repeated ever again." Police Chief Homer later said, "I've seen Wheeler under all kinds of conditions relating to police work, and I've never seen him shaken up like he was that night." Wheeler was later reported to have suffered severe headaches for several days after the sighting. He was hospitalized for tests. Paul recalls that Wheeler was once interviewed about that night by a professor. The professor offered to put Wheeler under hypnosis to see if he could remember any more about that night. Paul says Wheeler adamantly refused, saying he never wanted to go through that night again. Wheeler died about a year later.

It was silent. That was George Wheeler's first clue. Earlier that night, when he saw the huge ball of flame coming in over a hill from the northeast, he was certain it was a 747 about to crash. It was low in the night sky - too low, that was for sure - but the pilot was doing his best to steer it away from town. George, who had been a combat flyer in World War II, silently congratulated the pilot for his skill. Still, George was very worried; this wasn't going to be good at all. He was sitting in his squad car and he had a perfect view. The 747 off in the distance kept on getting lower and lower, its flames growing brighter and brighter until its orange glow overwhelmed the night sky. As the plane moved out of town, George tried to keep pace with it in his squad car. He wanted to be nearby when it went down; there was no doubt there would be people who would be needing his help.

He drove at high speed across the empty country road, trying to catch up with it. When the plane was nearly overhead, coming in really low, just moments from impact, its flames lighting up the horizon, George pulled into a ditch. He wanted to brace himself for the crash that was at hand. It was only as the plane moved directly above him, as its light and flames illuminated his squad car with the power of a spotlight, that George Wheeler realized something was very strange. The plane was absolutely silent. There was no whirr of engines, no grinding of landing gears. There was not a sound. And all at once something else, equally perplexing, became apparent. The plane wasn't near to crashing. It was on a steady course.

The flying object - the officer, shaken and shaky, was no longer sure it was a plane - began to fly toward the southside flats outside of town. George, his eyes fixed on an orange light as bold as the glow from an explosion, followed. When he caught up with it, the object was, to his amazement, hovering. The land here was flat, meadows and pastures fresh with spring grass, and the light from the object lit up the countryside. It was nighttime, close to 11:00 P.M., but the sky was as bright as high noon. George could see perfectly. He was scared, trembling even, but he got out of his squad car and took it all in.

The object was a craft of some kind. It was shaped like two cereal bowls put end to end and it was hovering about 1,500 feet above the ground. It was huge - at least the size of a football field. And it didn't make a sound.

George watched it for a while. Silhouetted against the sky, it was bright and silent and motionless. He felt as if he was seeing something that wasn't real, but of course he knew it was. That scared him even more. Then, without warning, the object took off at a tremendous speed. It would be incorrect, he would later insist, to describe the craft's acceleration as quick; it was instantaneous. Even more amazing, the craft began performing what appeared to be nothing less than acrobatics. It was, George decided, putting on an air show, and he was the sole audience. The craft would start out zooming along at this truly phenomenal speed, and all of a sudden it would begin turning at sharp ninety-degree angles, one after another, as though it was being driven by a stunt pilot. Someone was joyriding in the sky above Elmwood. George could only marvel. At last, it took off, flying silently toward the west at the same impossible speed. It was gone in an instant, and the night was once more dark.

Fear of UFO 'nearly paralyzes' policeman An Elmwood, WI police officer said Monday he was "almost paralyzed with fear" by an unidentified flying object (UFO) spotted by many Pierce County residents late Sunday night and early Monday morning.

Officer George Wheeler said he was in his squad car on County Road PP outside Elmwood about 12:45 a.m. Monday when he noticed "a huge flaming object about the size of a football field or a 747".
