Full Disclosure[edit]

As per this AN discussion, I'm not going to be editing BLP articles at least for six months.
As well, it has been fully pointed out that my behavior with a number of users (perhaps some of you reading this now) has been unnecessarily rude or dismissive. I'm making an effort to turn that around. If you have any questions about this, please ask. - Jack Sebastian (talk) 15:59, 5 September 2019 (UTC)`[reply]

I'm not going to be around much as I'm on a wiki break, but I think this message sounds sincere and I look forward to seeing you around, though I understand if you'd rather avoid me after I changed my mind on ANI. I think I'm going to avoid going over there in the future, as I mainly edit Wikipedia to relax and all of that left me feel in quite stressed. Clovermoss (talk) 00:38, 20 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
No, I am not upset at you, Clovermoss. I understood why you changed your mind; another user had suggested that my comments were homophobic. They weren't, but in the heat of the AN discussion, it was pretty easy to fall in line with those willing to believe the worst of me. I have been unpleasant in the past, and that all by itself was enough to taint people's view of my edits and intentions.
Some people won't ever be able to change their minds about me; one user in particular was essentially dancing a jig at my "misfortune." They will never get that it wasn't really a misfourtunate incident at all; it was a wake-up call.
And I am trying to heed it. It means refocusing on why I am here: to hone my editing and writing skills. Anything else is drama. If people can help me or I can help them to be better, I am all for it.
Thanks again for dropping me a line, Clovermoss. Enjoy your wikibreak. - Jack Sebastian (talk) 01:18, 20 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you[edit]

I just wanted to express sincere gratitude--it is exceedingly rare in life, and rarer still on Wikipedia, to see people who can take feedback on board and improve because of it. Once more, all the best going forward. Cheers. Dumuzid (talk) 05:11, 6 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

It's going to be a bit of a hard road for a bit, because I am sure there are folks who are going to be watching for me to trip over my dick and fall into old habits but, listening to everything that everyone had to say (fairly and unfairly), I just saw that this wasn't the type of editor I wanted to be, or to have others see. And while my Dad (who got me interested in editing in the first place) is fading away all the time, we had a good conversation about this while he was really lucid. He asked me a simple question:
'Are you acting in a way that would make your kids proud?' Even though my younglings are really young, the answer was clearly no. So, I've let that guide my behavior from now on. Some people are still going to be rude, some are going to be ass hats, but I don't have to play that game. That isn't why I am here. And I have seen a lot of the worst of them immolate themselves, and I came pretty close to doing that to myself. What happens from here on out is all up to me, and I appreciate a lot of good users willing to give me a chance to make good on that.
Thanks again, Dumuzid. - Jack Sebastian (talk) 06:19, 6 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Disambiguation link notification for September 14[edit]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Girl on the Third Floor, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Variety (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

Happy Holidays![edit]

Have a great rest of your holiday season! If you do not, then you should know that I have acquired a very particular set of skills on my time on Wikipedia. Skills that make me a nightmare for people who do not enjoy themselves. If you do not have a great time this year, I will find you... And I will block you.

But seriously, happy holidays. DarkKnight2149 21:56, 25 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you[edit]

Thank you for your comment at WP:RS/N. I really appreciate you are able to see the problem I described. I have known about it for some time and did not how best to approach it. I'm glad there is light on this issue now, and neutral editors who aren't involved with the articles in question can see what's really going on. --David Tornheim (talk) 17:28, 31 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I am equally delighted, Tornheim. While I think the mistrust of news and the attacks on facts began long before Trump in America (prolly with Kissinger and his Realpolitik), Trump has given full vent to this hugely destructive element. Anytime I hear about an editor making money for singing the praises of an article, I want to get a rope and a tall tree. I am utterly sickened that a lot of us here are just too kind-hearted to believe that Wikipedia could be subverted thusly. I hope this is only the beginning of several lights shed on the subject. - Jack Sebastian (talk) 18:30, 31 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

3RR[edit]

As I mentioned earlier, you yourself are also in violation of the 3RR, and I will thusly report you to the admins. I asked you to wait for a consensus. Instead, you attempted to stonewall the discussion.

(On a side note, thank you for being considerate enough to post on my wall about the ongoing notices. I disagree with you on the "Darksaber" discussion, but I respect you for keeping me in the loop.) --Bold Clone 23:16, 1 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Of course; doing any less would be underhanded. The rules are there for a reason. - Jack Sebastian (talk) 03:19, 2 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Notice of edit warring noticeboard discussion[edit]

Information icon Hello. This message is being sent to inform you that there is currently a discussion involving you at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Edit warring regarding a possible violation of Wikipedia's policy on edit warring. Thank you. --Bold Clone 23:22, 1 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Thing about ping[edit]

For future use, this [1] doesn't work. You have to have everything right in the same saved edit, tildes, "template" and all. More at Help:Fixing failed pings. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 12:38, 2 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Musing[edit]

Much of my own pop-cult editing is in areas like Kali#In_popular_culture and Tardigrade#In_popular_culture. Here, my general attitude is "get a decent secondary source or you're out." The argument that reasonably decent secondary sources are not good enough and can't be used without confirmation from primary ones is counter-intuitive to me, and I'm not familiar with it's on-WP application. Oh well, consensus will be what it will be. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 22:04, 2 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I appreciate you taking the time to send me a message. Have a great day. - Jack Sebastian (talk) 22:58, 2 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

A bowl of strawberries for you![edit]

For opening up at El Cs talk. Keep up the good work. DBigXray 19:54, 13 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. I do believe that is the first time anyone has ever done that. :) - Jack Sebastian (talk) 04:06, 14 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hey[edit]

Meant to post this a while ago, but I'm sorry about what happened at the DCEU talk page a little while ago. Real life's been a bit overwhelming for me recently and I think that might've seeped into my conduct with you. You're certainly not someone I want to make an enemy of, and I appreciate your work here. Also, there's a new discussion at the talk page that you might be interested in. JOEBRO64 02:48, 21 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@TheJoebro64: Just a reminder, that you need to notify all recent editors of topics that you introduce/ongoing discussions -so as to avoid apparent WP:CANVASSING behaviors. I have stated as much on your talk-page, as well.--DisneyMetalhead (talk) 08:41, 24 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Collaborative recognition[edit]

The Mediator Barnstar
You went out of your way to attempt to keep the 'debates' of differing opinions and sources, calm/cool/collected. You additionally reached out to me on my own talk-page and acknowledged my own abilities as well. It was greatly appreciated, and I believe this barnstar is justifiable. Cheers!--DisneyMetalhead (talk) 08:28, 24 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Wow, thanks! - Jack Sebastian (talk) 15:02, 24 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
You're welcome, @Jack Sebastian: it was indeed well-deserved. You have been very level-headed throughout the entire process. I have a question for you: How will I be notified of the outcome of the SPI that was submitted against me?--DisneyMetalhead (talk) 01:39, 11 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I'd ask Darkknight2149, as he is the one who filed the request. - Jack Sebastian (talk) 02:07, 11 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

BLP topic ban lifted[edit]

Hello, I've removed the indefinite BLP editing restriction on you per community consensus, see AN discussion. BLPs are still a contentious area, so you might want to read up on the WP:BLP policy to get a good idea of what not to do. Good luck and happy editing! --qedk (t c) 10:47, 21 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for letting me know, QEDK. I'll do just that. Stay safe. - Jack Sebastian (talk) 16:14, 21 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
