Tips
  • Don't be afraid to edit! Just find something that can be improved and make it better. Other editors will help fix any mistakes you make.
  • It's normal to feel a little overwhelmed, but don't worry if you don't understand everything at first—it's fine to edit using common sense.
  • If an edit you make is reverted, you can discuss the issue at the article's talk page. Be civil, and don't restore the edit unless there is consensus.
  • Always use edit summaries to explain your changes.
  • When adding new content to an article, always include a citation to a reliable source.
  • If you wish to edit about a subject with which you are affiliated, read our conflict of interest guide and disclose your connection.
  • Have fun! Your presence in the Wikipedia community is welcome.

Happy editing! Cheers, Clovermoss🍀 (talk) 18:02, 9 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Taxobox parameters[edit]

Hi, although the taxobox may appear to work if you omit |taxon=, as here, the title of the article doesn't get italicized, because the code can't check that the taxon name and the page title match. So please include this parameter, as I've now done. I appreciate that taxoboxes can be complicated for new editors. Peter coxhead (talk) 18:28, 9 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Formatting synonym lists[edit]

Hi, have a look at Phyllostegia haliakalae where I have formatted the synonyms correctly.

  • We use bullet points, not dashes
  • Species names are italicized
  • Parentheses have a meaning – they show that a taxon is not in the same genus or at the same rank that the parenthesized author used, so you mustn't introduce them where they aren't present in the source

Using {{Species list}} makes it easier to format synonyms. Peter coxhead (talk) 16:51, 19 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Vernacular names for pines[edit]

Thank you for creating articles on the two species of pines recently. I would ask that you provide citations for the asserted vernacular names (Puerto Vallarta pine, Georgina's pine) that you included with them though, as they are not found in any of the literature you cite. If these are not names found in sources they must be removed, as Wikipedia can not create any new information (eg new common names), but can only ever report what is written elsewhere.--Kevmin § 14:16, 14 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I might have started the AFD too soon, but I agree that it should be moved to either a subspecies article or merged would be a better choice, would be happy to help edit the article more to reflect as such, there is good information here but unfortunately it does not clearly reflect the current view on this species. 🌀CycloneFootball71🏈 |sandbox 20:23, 22 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
