dyne:bolic info wanted[edit]

hi there!

Trying to rearrange Dyne:bolic a bit.

thanks!

Questions left to answer: Is there still any development going on?

yes! there are interesting experiments done by volunteers and I'm being kept informed off-list and in some meetins in person, lets say three times per year. Meanwhile I'm studying Zsh and a good strategy to port docking and nesting to dyne:III (the latter using Tomb). Both Tomb and JaroMail developments should be also regarded as dyne:bolic development (we don't only maintain a distro of software, but we do develop software "upstream" at dyne). At last here a slightly polemic answer to those who claim d:b and other 100% free GNU/Linux distros aren't updated often http://lists.nongnu.org/archive/html/gnu-linux-libre/2013-11/msg00004.html still useful to explain our POV

Which libre kernel is used by the latest v3.x?

3.0.1-libredyne

What software is used with/comes with this version?

Too long to list here. But please, especially if you are updating info about it, boot it! Have a look at the menu, its well organized..

Is clustering CPUs still supported in dyne3?

No. clustering was only supported in dyne:I

Hello, and *thank you* for answering fastly. Distrowatch is listing it as *dormant* - according to your reply one could say it is definitly not *discontinued*, right?
Stupid me, kernel 3.0.1 was listed there on Dwatch... Is the listing for the rest of the dist. correct? Any corrections/other sw to mention?
I may boot it, but I do not know much about such specialized dists/software (pure dyne + dyne3 stuff), this is why I ask you directly - you should know best because you are merging that stuff/creating the dist.? ;-)
[...] strategy to port docking and nesting to dyne:III (the latter using Tomb). - So, docking and nesting *is not* included/implemented with dyne3 atm?
Thought it was, as this is/was a very special feature. Little confused...
Could you explain the connection between Tomb + dyne3 nesting in a few words? - Would be cool to include it in WP-article.
Any plans for updating/new release or a *golden* v3? - saw, dyne3 is considered beta stage. More to come if I have got more questions...
EDIT: Grub is listed as 1.97beta4 on Dwatch, but I found Grub2 listed in the readme - which Grub is correct? The same goes for Gnome2 - Xfce is listed on Dwatch instead.
EDIT 2: Reworked dyne:bolic article a bit, hope this is alright. Please check and recommend corrections, if I did sthing wrong.
I stick to the dist. considered *dormant* (as Dwatch does list) atm, mainly because it is still beta stage for some time now.
But *discontinued* is definitly sthing totally differend (this said for the link you provided). Just in case you wonder why I changed this.
The only thing unclear to me is, if docks and nests still work /w dyne3 as described (the old way) or not. Please explain if you can -
(see also [...] strategy to port docking and nesting to dyne:III for this.). Should really give dyne a try, in a vm at least.

Thanks again, and greets back, Andy 20:52, 16 February 2014 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 88.151.74.210 (talk)
