Removed info

Hi Jerium, I received your message about the info we removed on the Native Seeds Search page today. I noticed today that the page listed incorrect info (an old executive director). It looks like it linked to an old blog post on our website. I deleted the person's name, but I didn't really see where to add an explanation or I would have. So, putting the info back on the site, as your message said, would be reinstating outdated information. Sorry for any confusion - I've never updated Wikipedia. 68.14.216.118 (talk) 18:23, 6 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hello and thanks for messaging, I went ahead an undid my edit, the link is sending a 404 error. When making changes to a page, fill out the edit summary; see Help:Edit summary for instructions, thank you again. Jerium (talk) 18:31, 6 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

RM closure review

Hello. Could I request a review of your close at Talk:Carmel (Israeli settlement). The relevant guideline is WP:PLACEDAB, which says human settlements should be disambiguated via a comma. Although most editors were in favour of the proposed move, a guideline-based argument should be given more weight than numbers in favour. There was also an alternative proposal suggested mid-way through the debate, which was compliant with the guideline, and which not all the editors who had already !voted had a chance to reconsider. Cheers, Number 57 20:26, 21 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Number 57 I f*cked up, thought everyone was in favor of the original proposal. Should've been relisted instead. Jerium (talk) 20:40, 21 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
No problem, thanks for being open to being asked rather than doubling down! Cheers, Number 57 20:48, 21 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Seeking Feedback

Hi Jerium, I hope you're well! I'm a wiki newbie and have made contributions to the Fan Activism article, specifically the K-pop section. I'm seeking feedback and tips to ensure the article is up to par. I saw you on the WikiProject Pop music talk page and am hoping you might leave me some feedback on my contribution! Thanks so much. Also, I love your long and impressive work with barnstars! Alise boal (talk) 23:40, 11 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Alise boal Hello Alise boal, I've read the article, and it's really well-written (typed) and sourced. I wonder though, were there any oppositional groups or major political ramifications in response to "fan activism". Also adding scholarly negative and positive opinions would create a more wider perspective and would make the reader more knowledgeable on the subject, if there's any scholarly opinion source available though, but good job, keep up the good work. Jerium (talk) 15:57, 12 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Administrators' newsletter – June 2023

News and updates for administrators from the past month (May 2023).

Guideline and policy news

  • Following an RfC, editors indefinitely site-banned by community consensus will now have all rights, including sysop, removed.
  • As a part of the Wikimedia Foundation's IP Masking project, a new policy has been created that governs the access to temporary account IP addresses. An associated FAQ has been created and individual communities can increase the requirements to view temporary account IP addresses.

Technical news

  • Bot operators and tool maintainers should schedule time in the coming months to test and update their tools for the effects of IP masking. IP masking will not be deployed to any content wiki until at least October 2023 and is unlikely to be deployed to the English Wikipedia until some time in 2024.

Arbitration

  • The arbitration case World War II and the history of Jews in Poland has been closed. The topic area of Polish history during World War II (1933-1945) and the history of Jews in Poland is subject to a "reliable source consensus-required" contentious topic restriction.

Kamaitachi no Yoru/Banshee's Last Cry move

Hi, thank you for closing the move at Talk:Banshee's Last Cry. Though I've been following the page and actively edited it a month ago, I missed the opening of the move discussion on August 2 and was caught by surprise when the article was suddenly moved last night. I was hoping you would be willing to reopen the discussion and tag the people who were involved in the 2018 move discussion. I can't find any new sources on this game, so I'm unsure what triggered the overturning of the unanimous consensus of five years ago. What are your thoughts on this? ~Maplestrip/Mable (chat) 07:53, 10 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Maplestrip The RM had already hit elapsed, and with no opposition, it was an easy decision. You can start another RM if it bothers you, though it could be somewhat perceived as disruptive. Jerium (talk) 08:19, 10 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah I hate being disruptive, hence why most I really want to do is ask here. It's a frustrating surprise to wake up to. Maybe I'll see about moving it back again when I actually go hands-on with it someday; it's awkward that I care so much about the article title while the article itself is in such a poor state, I suppose. But figured I'd try here as per WP:MR, I'm sure we've all experienced a surprise decision that we didn't realize was up fo discussion. ~Maplestrip/Mable (chat)
Maplestrip Don’t boldly move if you’re suggesting that, that would be disruptive after a successful RM, even if you boldly move it two years later. Just wait two months to start an RM again. That’s the best advice I can give you. Other than that, happy editing and cheers friend. 😉 Jerium (talk) 10:47, 10 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Oh no, wouldn't dare to boldly revert an action following a closed discussion, haha. But yeah, thanks ^_^; ~Maplestrip/Mable (chat) 11:26, 10 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I've been revamping the "Optimal tool set", and it has dawned on me that I've totally forgotten about Wikipedia's graphic artists.

I've got a text-based AI on there, but I'm not familiar with AI image generators, and was wondering if you were familiar with any of these:

AI Image Generators
Name Free/Cost Account Required? Import? Save File? Popularity
Midjourney Cost Yes Yes Yes 1
Starryai Free Yes Yes Yes 2
Mindseye Lite Free Yes Yes Yes 3
Deep Dream Generator Free No Yes Yes 4
MyHeritage's AI Time Machine Free + Fee Yes Yes Yes 5
NightCafe Free No Yes Yes 6
Jasper Art Free No Yes Yes 7
DALL-E 2 Free No Yes Yes 8
Dream by WOMBO Free No Yes Yes 9
Photosonic Free No Yes Yes 10
Stable Diffusion Free No Yes Yes 11
Runway ML Free No Yes Yes 12
Craiyon Free No Yes Yes 13
Bing Image Creator Free Microsoft/Outlook Yes Yes 14

I was thinking of adding advice to import open licensed or public domain pics into it for modification, to avoid copyright derivative work issues.

I look forward to your responses. Sincerely,    — The Transhumanist   01:13, 15 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The Transhumanist No, I've had not heard of these, nor do I know anything about AI. Jerium (talk) 05:51, 15 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
A technological revolution is going on involving AI.

Programs that can understand what you tell them to do, as if you were talking or writing to another person, and which can do a growing range of tasks that they weren't preprogrammed to do. Tasks which they perform a lot faster than we can.

AI programs represent the next generation of software applications, and application programs across the spectrum are incorporating AI features at an increasing rate. In the near future, each segment of the software field will likely be dominated by an AI version, with general purpose AI programs likely making many kinds of specialty software obsolete.

Because AIs have taken a leap in what they can do and how well they can do it, businesses in every industry, and governments around the world and their militaries are scrambling to integrate AI into their operations as fast as they can.

The general purpose text generation AIs can do pretty much any kind of writing task, including converse, answer questions, build a profile on someone or something, help you make plans, develop ideas in an interactive conversation, compose essays or just about any other kind of document or written work, build tables, etc., etc., etc. The most powerful thing they can do right now is write and edit software. You tell them what you want your program to do, or what you want them to do to your program, and they write or edit the sourcecode. They can even translate from one computer language to another. Unsurprisingly, they are being used to help design the next version of themselves.

The class of software that is likely to have the highest physical impact upon civilization are robotics control AIs. AIs that can control machinery of all types, including robots. The AIs mentioned above are being used to develop robotics applications, so it won't be long before automated robotics become as widespread as computers.

It is not exaggerating to say that AIs have the potential to change everything, in the not so distant future. See accelerating change.

We are in for quite a ride.    — The Transhumanist   08:49, 15 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Sex Work Barnstar

The Sex Work Barnstar
For you development of a new userbox and barnstar to grow the Sex Work task force. Demt1298 (talk) 01:47, 16 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

New barnstar award?

Nice design. The nodes are perfect.
How about these colors? Blue for the star, green for the nodes?

I was wondering if you could create an outline barnstar award that has a picture of a topic tree or menu, that is, something hierarchical to represent outlines, superimposed over the star? We settled on the lightbulb for lack of better images at the time. We've been in need of a more representative symbol for a long time.

I look forward to your reply. Sincerely,    — The Transhumanist   00:10, 13 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The Transhumanist I have actually attempted something like that, didn't go so well. If I do something like that again, and it works, members of WikiProject Genealogy might not be happy that such a diagram would be dedicated to outlines, and I wound't blame them. Jerium (talk) 13:59, 13 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Doesn't the barnstar or userbox for categories have something similar? We have something like that on one of the outline userboxes, but it is probably too "meh" to use with a barnstar. Please keep looking, you are likely to find something suitable. Let me know when you do!    — The Transhumanist   10:18, 14 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
The Transhumanist I made an alt, and I already added it as the primary and converted the original as the alternative option. Jerium (talk) 20:07, 14 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you! I love the shape, and how the nodes propagate the center hole. Would it be any trouble to make the star sky blue and the nodes neon green?    — The Transhumanist   22:26, 14 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
The Transhumanist I won't rehash. Just fulfilling a request can upset other editors when I reject them, causing me more trouble. Your reasoning was sound when I made the brown-version to replace the lightbulb barnstar. I'm not going any further with this. Jerium (talk) 23:10, 14 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
It's nice. And, the colors are growing on me. Thank you.    — The Transhumanist   01:10, 15 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Why?    — The Transhumanist   01:10, 17 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
The Transhumanist Honestly, I don't even know. Jerium (talk) 01:15, 17 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I meant, "Why did you move it?" And now you've deleted it. What is going on?    — The Transhumanist   01:31, 17 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I just undid everything back to the way it was. I shouldn't have made a separate template to begin with. Jerium (talk) 01:33, 17 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for your help on the WikiProject. Feel free to keep improving things. I like the look of the page and the tree structure you added, etc. Looks very professional.    — The Transhumanist   07:33, 17 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Userscripts?

Based on your graphic arts skill, my guess is you would take to userscripts like a fish to water.

Userscripts are programs you can install in your browser. Many browser add-ons started out as userscripts.

After you get familiar with how to use them, it's not a huge leap to start to make them.

To understand how they are used in general, not just on Wikipedia, it is necessary to install a userscript manager, such as tampermonkey. With tampermonkey, you can install userscripts, edit existing userscripts, and make new userscripts.

Most of the userscripts on Wikipedia can be loaded into tampermonkey. (Rather than the usual method of installing them on your Wikipedia user account).

But, out there on the web, there are userscripts that'll work on pages other than Wikipedia, and you can browse the main collection of those at https://greasyfork.org/en. That site has a very good introduction on how to get started using userscripts, right on its main page.

If you are slightly intrigued, check it out.

Have fun!

Kathy Hochul

Thank you for reverting the vandalism on Hochul. The vandalism was WP:LTA from a sockpuppeter who waits for their targets to become unprotected, as Hochul's was. With that nature of a BLP violation, I'm surprised nobody reported them to WP:AIV or the page to WP:RFPP. Please keep in mind the next time you see vandalism like that rapidly reinserted over reversions that the page will likely need admin intervention. – Muboshgu (talk) 00:51, 27 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Muboshgu The vandal was reported to AIV, and as for articles in general, I don't really edit them (not anymore). Unaware of what you removed

Hello Jerium, I am unaware of what in particular you removed? The "Eastern Catholic Churches" in the veneration subsection is still there, that is all i added, of which was already sourced before my edit. Λάντεν (talk) 00:19, 20 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Λάντεν You added "Church Father" in the infobox of Gregory Palamas here, yet there is indication that he ever was, unless you can provide a reliable source that states otherwise. Jerium (talk) 00:23, 20 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Forgive me, it seems I overlapped my edit with an older article, thanks for solving that! However, St Gregory Palamas is indeed a Church Father according to Orthodox Christian sources, however amongst other sects (Such Catholicism and Protestantism) it is more nuanced. Should he then be placed as a Church Father since he is the founder of a related article (Palamism) ? Λάντεν (talk) 00:44, 20 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
You need a reliable source indicating that he is a Church Father in major denominations, not just the perception of one denomination. Jerium (talk) 00:48, 20 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, thank you. Λάντεν (talk) 00:50, 20 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Bhavana

Hi, I don't understand why you've moved the Bhavana (actress) article. She is far more commonly known simply as Bhavana, which is her stage name, than by the weird hybrid name "Bhavana Menon" which is a combination of her stage name and her given surname (her actual name is Karthika Menon). This has been discussed many times over the years at move discussions, and I don't think that should be overturned on the back of a very poorly attended discussion that didn't address the fundamental issues. Hello Amakuru, the RM had hit the elapsed listing, and there was no opposition. It was a simple closure. You can start a new RM, a move review, or have the page moved though a technical request. I am not opposed to those options. Jerium (talk) 22:07, 19 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hi again, and thanks for your reply. Firstly, per WP:RMCI your job as the closer of the RM is to assess the validity of the arguments made... It is never a case of it being a "simple closure" just because nobody happened to oppose. With so many move requests in the past affirming the mononym for this actress, I'd have thought some firm common name evidence was definitely required. Anyway, since you've closed it, I can't really use the technical request to reverse your decision, but if possible I wonder if you would consider reopening and relisting the discussion? Thanks  — Amakuru (talk) 22:17, 19 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Amakuru You make a valid point, I'll go ahead and reopen/relist the RM. Jerium (talk) 22:20, 19 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Amakuru The RM is reopened and relisted. Jerium (talk) 22:46, 19 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
thank you!  — Amakuru (talk) 07:06, 20 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Jerium,
I think you must have made changes to a template or userbox that caused these categories to empty out. You should probably consider reverting yourself. Go to the Teahouse if you need help. Liz Read! Talk! 22:30, 28 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Liz Hi Liz, they were already empty since I made them. The user boxes are more recently made, so I expect the cats to be empty for a bit. Jerium (talk) 21:54, 29 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
