Montenegro Airlines flag carrier status

Can you please explain to me why you put "citation needed" tag on the sentence where it states Montenegro Airlines is the flag carrier of Montenegro? There is no citation for Air France being the flag carrier of France, or for Lufthansa being the flag carrier of Germany. I could go on, but there's no need. It's unclear to me why you would think YM isn't the flag carrier of Montenegro. Zastavafan76 (talk) 14:41, 2 August 2012 (UTC)

Because of WP:V. If you think the other airlines you mention have their flag carrier status unsupported, you can go and add the same tag to their articles. I have reinstated the tag you removed. Please, you don't need to make me look stupid. I am not going to put citation tags on other articles as "revenge" for the citation tag on this article. Also, I do not think that articles of large western carriers lack citation evidence of flag carrier status, I just don't see what calls for a citation needed tag. When you said that the article doesn't support the flag carrier status, I realized that the only evidence of government favoritism was given through a source from the airline's main website (in the history section). You may or may have not noticed it, but I kept on deleting the citing tag because you didn't say whether there was any very-noticeable reason/lack of evidence to put it there. I just added two more independent sources that cited state aid/protection to the airline, although it would be useful to tell me which kind and how many sources do I need to put to affirm that flag carrier title. Flag carrier includes a citation you should use in the article we're talking about. It was added by myself to that article, as many others were. Cubana de Aviación Flight 9646

I saw you did this article. It was a crash I have been meaning to do but have put off repeatedly. Just a couple of comments...

  • I added a section on the cause of the crash. The source- David Gero's book Aviation Disasters.
  • I also did a couple of other tweaks, one of which was how much the winds were gusting at the time of the crash. This again was according to Gero's book. You may want to IC the speed of the winds using Gero's book. I tried to do it, but it was messing up the article. As always, feel free to fix up my work. Cheers!...William 14:44, 7 August 2012 (UTC)
The article was started because the number of fatalities is to date the highest for an accident taking place at Cuba, just above Aeroflot Flight 331. Biman has codeshares with Gulf Air, Qatar Airways, Emirates, Saudia and many more airlines, according to its Official Website. Would you update the information or should I?

Recent Deletion

Hi Jetstreamer.

I'm here right now to tell you why I recently removed you post on Wikiproject airlines. The reason why I deleted your post is because I know the person that keeps saying the 787 Dreamliner is already delivered to Ethiopian Airlines. I know AerospaceAirAviation in person, and the reason he keeps saying it's delivered is because he is overly excited that they are the 3rd to operate in the world, and the 1st in Africa to operate instead of Kenya. Also, he doesn't want the page to have full protection. The day it's delivered, he told me that he wanted to be the one that will post that they got their first 787 Dreamliner. Please Calm Down

When reediting my mistakes, and telling me why I was wrong, please reply in a calm matter. Yes, so I did add incorrect information, but that doesn't mean you have to say my editing appeared to be Vandalism when it was just a simple mistake even a bone-head like you could make sometimes. Your message, "Delivery of the First Dreamliner is scheduled to take place on 17 August, according to a reference provided in the article." I have SO MANY references that it scheduled delivery was today, because its flying out to DC, and back to Addis with 250 select customers, and VIPs! You could've included the references saying it'll be delivered today! I gonna keep including my changes whether you like it or not. Your not the only one that keeps an eye on that page! I do to so don't think your the only one keeping an eye on that page! I'm Ethiopian, and I have an uncle who's a pilot for that airline. So that's how I know it'll be delivered today.

As of 9:19 AM Pacfic Time, 8/14/2012, I have finished reeditting the Ethiopian Airlines page, and included NUMEROUS references unlike you were able to do! Is that so hard for you? Your supposed to be an administrator. We are supposed to admire and look up to you? But after this, I'm done looking up to you and admiring you.

  1. This reference you added clearly says the airline will take delivery of the first Dreamliner next week. Don't you think that such an event will be much publicised, specially by the airline, if it had already occurred? That there's no official press releases neither from the aircraft manufacturer nor from the airline is enough evidence for not suppoorting your claims. The official delivery of the first aircraft didn't occur yet. Apart from that, your addition of “numerous” references as you say violates WP:CITECLUTTER.
  2. I'm not an administrator, and even if I was one, administrators don't have special privileges regarding the normal edition of articles.
  3. WP:V states that every change you made to Wikipedia is expected to be supported by reliable sources, not by your personal knowledge. I strongly encourage you to familiarise yourself with the policies and guidelines. press release.

ET 757/767 Seating Config

This reference, and this reference shows that Ethiopian Airlines operates a total of nine Boeing 757s, 2 757-200F, and 7 757-200s. On the ET fleet list, it only shows they operate a total of 5 passenger 757-200s. Also on this reference, I found out they had more types of seating configs aside from the others that are currently on the ET fleet section. I did some research and concluded with this: All have P16/Y144: 3

/Y154: 1

/Y155: 2

/Y159: 1

Now for the Boeing 767s, they do have a total according to this reference, and this reference. On this reference, I found all the seat configs except for 2. Reg. ET-AMQ, and ET-AQG. The rest have: P24/Y208: 1

P24/Y210: 1

P24/Y213: 2

P24/Y221: 5

P30/Y190: 1

I'd stick to this official information (reference number 100 in the article), where the airline states it has four 757s and 12 767s on service. I've checked the seat configurations in the table, and they are in agreement with this reference. Ethiopian Airlines Ordered 777-300ERs?

I'm really sorry that everytime I come onto your page to post something, it always has to be about Ethiopian Airlines. I'm just a huge fan of the airline because that is my flag carrier, I am from that country, and they are the leading african airliner. I looked at this reference and toward the end, I see that the airline has leased two Boeing 777-300ERs from GECAS. And when I looked at this reference under the fleet on order, the airline itself said it ordered 2 777-300ERs, but doesn't state they're leased. No specific type of seating is also included. I try googling it, and I can't find any other article that says whether the airline has ordered or cancelled the order. I thought I come to you for help. And if they did, you should add that to the ET fleet.

And also, is it true that ET is going to start service to Kuala Lumpur via Bangkok? There is no other reference that states it.

No problem, you can write me anytime you want. Regarding the aircraft that will be leased from GECAS, they are two Boeing 777Fs. These aircraft are already included in the Cargo Fleet section of the fleet table: a note says that two of them will be leased from GECAS. ET Narrowbody Order

According to this reference, looks like Ethiopian Airlines will be ordering some more Boeing 737 Next Generations, as well as some more Boeing 757s. And now I read that their Boeing 767s will be retired on 2017-2018. What do you think about adding this info?

Also, for my last post on your page, ET will not be leasing the Boeing 777-300ERs, but they have converted their order to leasing the Boeing 777F instead? I am confused. --Triple A (talk) 14:12, 21 August 2012 (UTC)

I've updated the retirement date for the 767-300ERs, as per the reference you provided. I noticed you have reverted my modification on the Flag carrier article, stating that the percentage applied to the AF-KLM Holding and not the sole AF. But as far as I know, Air France is 100%-owned by the Holding and the French State own shares of the Holding, not the carrier itself.

ET Will Start Service to Kuala Lumpur

This reference appears to say Ethiopian Airlines will start service to Kuala Lumpur. I don't know if this is the correct reference your looking for, but I thought it seemed right. I updated the Bole International Airport page providing the reference above. And I am really confused on what you said on ET on my last post. You added a {{uw-generic4}} to this user for edits to Djibouti-Ambouli International Airport and Ethiopian Airlines, but it's apparently unclear what the problem was. There are indeed flights on Wednesday and Friday on TK from JIB to IST (#687) and MGQ (#686) starting 5 Sep (not the 4th). I didn't quickly find a reference for the 757 retirements at Ethiopian, but it's not unreasonable. Is the only problem with these that they do not have cites nor edit summaries? If so, it might be useful to clarify that to the user. While we're on the subject of Aerolineas Argentinas, their Flight 644 is the deadliest aviation disaster in Argentine history not Austral Líneas Aéreas Flight 2553. ASN has it listed as such. You might say Aerolineas is an Argentine airline, but if we go on that criteria, Tenerife is the worst US aviation disaster, The Paris DC-10 crash the worst Turkish, etc etc because the carrier was from those countries....William 15:52, 4 September 2012 (UTC)

1950 Aerolíneas Argentinas crash

It is mentioned in Aerolíneas Argentinas accidents and incidents. You have a note about the crash site being unlikely for a Mar del Plata-Buenos Aires flight. Santiago del Estero is unlikely, and its also wrong. The plane crashed near Mar del Cobo. Airdisaster.com says Cobo[2]. A 1950 news article[3] places the crash 20 miles from Mar Del Plata and Mar del Cobo would fit that description. Do you agree with my homework?

British Eagle

There seems to be a similar situation developing on British Eagle as happened with Dan-Air; an ip objecting to the citation overkill template. The ip also seems to object to most of my edits but their reverts/edits don't have summaries that are any help for me to identify their concern except a recent one that accuses me of ownership and reverting. I don't want to get into an edit war - can you think of any other approach other than page protection that would bring a resolution? An editor with a user page I can try and discuss issues with but bthis ip has only been in use for the last couple of days. Would it be worth bringing the issue up at the Airlines task-force? The issue is that the user seems to have found the goodness of {{start date and years ago}} and started using it on every article s(he) can. In my opinion, using it once in an infobox is more than enough. Separately, you can go and take a look to the recent and not so recent activity of this user to figure out that their contributions blatantly ignore the notices and warnings made by others, including me.--Jetstreamer Talk 10:30, 7 September 2012 (UTC)
I spent quite a bit of time looking over his(?) edits before I posted here. I'll agree the ordinal thing was misguided, but I see absolutely no sign of bad faith in the edits themselves. Most of the warnings you're talking about are related to edit summaries—while I agree that edit summaries are a good thing, for minor formatting changes they're not that important. And lastly, if your issue is with the content of the change, then your summary for the revert really should reflect that. As it is, a couple of people I pointed at your contrib page actually thought you might be stalking. Flag carriers and the case of Norway

Traditionally, the flag carrier of Norway was Braathens SAFE[3], who operated in competition with SAS and dominated the Norwegian market.

In Norway today there are two predominant companies: - SAS (who bought Braathens just as it was going bankrupt) - Norwegian Air Shuttle (Braathens' former regional partner, now run by mostly former Braathens people)

According to the definition of a flag carrier on the Wikipedia page: "A flag carrier is a transportation company, such as an airline or shipping company, that, being locally registered in a given state, enjoys preferential rights or privileges, accorded by the government, for international operations."

... none of them probably deserve that right, and if any, it would be Norwegian, as the Norwegian authorities banned loyalty programmes on Norwegian domestic in order to allow Norwegian to grow into a sizeable competitor to SAS. [1 -- On how they are now considering to lift this] Furthermore, Norwegian is registered in Norway while SAS is not[2].

There are no advantages to SAS or any SAS owned companies afforded in Norway, and there are several international routes served only by Norwegian Air Shuttle. It is therefore, I think, inappropriate to list SAS as a flag carrier for Norway.

The first source states that SAS was founded in part by an airliner that was considered the Norwegian flag carrier, and had appropriate privileges at the time. Later, as commonly known, Braathens was seen as the flag carrier, and had the same kind of privileges -- as referred to by the second source. That second source is simply stating the same definition of flag carrier which both airline companies do not satisfy. Surely, a source without a direct reference can not be counted as a legitimate source unless it specifically makes a mention of this case in particular. Copyright violation

{{adminhelp}} Hi there. In my opinion, this issue will be better solved by anyone being an administrator at both English Wikipedia and Commons. I found User:Carlosjavierravelo to be uploading copyrighted images belonging to others. More specifically, I have identified so far the following images to have been uploaded (to Commons?) as if they were taken by the user himself (the source for each image is in parenthesis).

For the same reasons, I suppose the following image is also a copyright violation, yet I did not find the original source for it at Airliners.net.

That should be enough; where you've found someone doing a lot, as here, best to contact one of their admins. For an isolated case, if you have unified login so that you have an account on Commons, it's actually quite easy to nominate files for deletion there. Under "Toolbox", on the left on the file description page, there is a link "Nominate for deletion" where you just fill in a reason and it does it all for you - much easier than filing an AfD here! For copyright, where it's clear or you know the source, you can use their version of speedy deletion: just put {{copyvio|1=Reason}} or {{copyvio|source=URL}} on the file description page. Varig slogan

Hello Jetstreamer! I think it is wrong to undo my update on Varig's page. It's a fact that "Varig, Varig, Varig." was the company slogan during decades, being abandoned just a couple of years before it's bankruptcy. It's not irrelevant information. That slogan is present in all TV and radio ads from 1950 until the nineties. Also, there is the "É mais que voar." I know with the Air France-KLM orders for the A350 and 787, KLM confirmed their 25 787-9 order but I do not know about the Air France A350 yet so this is why I ask you. That's really weird that it got denied. I think it definitely should be. Not to rage, but I'm wondering as to why people who don't have accounts have the editing rights they do. I've recently returned to Wikipedia and have been reverting a lot of vandalism from IPs. Do you agree that people should have to have accounts? I think that's it's somewhat rare that users edit legitimately without an account. I think there's many ways this could be improved, i.e. requiring people who don't want to use an account to request editing permissions. Sorry if this was raging... I just wanted to see if somebody agreed. So anyways, thanks for your help. And I have no idea what we should do about the protection since it got denied. Gatwick Airport - Casablanca disambiguation

I know that Casablanca has 3 airports (Anfa Airport, Tit Melil Airport, and Mohammed V Airport). Anfa Airport was closed in 2006 leaving Tet Melil and Mohammed V as the only airports in Casablanca but I was wondering if Tet Melil Airport have any flights (cargo, passenger, charter, or general aviation) operating out of the airport cause Casablanca was disambiguated at that page (Gatwick Airport) and I was wondering if you can keep an eye on it. I was on the Ethiopian Airlines website when I came accross this link. It appears to say that ET has 2 Boeing 777-300ERs on order. Hi there! I already removed them actually, as that site cannot be considered reliable. Nevertheless, I will correct the fleet figures according to the reference that was in use by updating it. Furthermore, the number of Dash 8s in the fleet decreased by one, now having seven planes of the type (including the new one the airline has just taken delivery of). Hello. This time I'm asking for admin intervention regarding the edits made by the IP user above in the recent months. This follows several reversions made by me (you may take a look at the article's history to verify this), a note left in the article's talk page that was never responded, protection requests (some of them fulfilled, some rejected, an apparent unwillingness to blocking the IP), and so on. Nothing seems to work on making this user understand s(he) is not complying with one of the basic policies, as most of their edits do not conform with the verifiability policy when content backed up by a reference has been recursively removed, or the table is changed without updating the reference supporting it. I am surprised at the poor response you have had to previous requests for help. I can only suppose that the admins in question did not realise the scale of the problem, which I find has been going on ever since November 2010. The suggestion that it may not be one user is highly implausible, since exactly the same kind of disruptive editing has been taking place. I have semi-protected the article for a year. I seriously considered 2 years, as that is the time scale on which the problem has been going on, and short-term protections have not helped, but I decided that one year might be enough to make the vandal give up and find something else to do. Garuda Indonesia - Dubai

There has been some agrument with a user and an IP on whether or not Dubai will remain a destination for Garuda after 1 December 2012. The press release from Garuda (http://www.garuda-indonesia.com/gi_us/News/Garuda+Indonesia+Etihad+Airways+Sign+Codeshare+Agreement.page?) says that the airline will begin codesharing with Etihad eff. 28 October 2012 and as part of that agreement, the airline will shift its CGK-DXB-AMS route to CGK-AUH-DXB route on 2 December 2012 (and CGK-DXB-CGK is not bookable on their website after that date). However, the user is convinced that DXB will still be a destination along with AUH and that the CGK-AMS route is nonstop. Do you know if Garuda will terminate or maintain its services to Dubai? Vandreadstriker keeps saying that are no press releases or news sources indicating that the airline will stop service to Dubai. He al lso says that CGK-DXB uses different flight numbers. I invite you to take a look at the editing I have done to the Ethiopian Airlines fleet section. I have added a note saying three Boeing 787 Dreamliners will leased from ILFC to ET, adding a reference to it. Feel free to remove it if it is not necessary.

I also edited the note for ET's Bombardier Q400s. I made it say the rest will be leased to ASKY Airlines because ET has ordered two for themselves, and three will be leased to ASKY. Feel free to revert that edit.

Irtish Air doesn't operate regular flights any more since the lessor of its aircrafts, SAPSAN stored its aircrafts due to return to Bombardier. You can check the website of Almaty Airport to see that all irtysh and Sapsan flights disapeared, and also Airfleets.net to see that SAPSAN aircrafts are really stored. There is no formally written source for this information, it is verifiable through British Airways' reservation system. Essentially what I have been told by Jetstreamer is that since no written source exists we should pretend as though the service is not planned. Hi! considering this edit, here are a few things:

  • 1. That is a secondary source from a Chinese news site. It is encyclopedic to say one, but it is more encyclopedic to say the rest, especially if they have secondary sources, which gets to point 2.
  • 2. Since this isn't an FA, this isn't a GA, there is no need to trim underdeveloped sections (i.e. the article is in a "working" stage and can be left incomplete). We want to invite people to contribute more. I should have left an {{expand section}} tag but nonetheless that can be done. I strongly dislike the removal of underdeveloped sections when there is no FA/GA status involved, and the section is otherwise viable.

Given that both of you were involved in the recent blocks of the above user, I just wanted to let you know that their recent activity has turned somewhat complicated to understand, mostly based on this, which is clearly disruptive, apart from the fact that s(he) does not use the article's talk pages to discuss any changes. This shows that s(he) is engaged on disregarding the core policies. From my position as a simple editor that wants a better and accurate Wikipedia, I cannot do more than reverting the edits made by him/her for which I consider a policy or guideline was misinterpreted. It all seemingly started with this edit, and there was an edit war at the article in the following days. The user and I initially discussed their point of view at their talk page, despite their arguments were against the verifiability policy. After that, s(he) started reverting again. An IP reported the user at WP:AIV, and I pointed out to their talk page to provide evidence on their behaviour. This was the moment JamesBWatson came into play with the first block for the user, and the rest is known. Paragraphs are not unreferenced: that's exactly why I changed the article the way I did (i.e. explicitly putting the citation into a References section). And yes, in this case a single source supports the whole article. Though English language sources are preferred, per WP:NONENG it's perfectly ok to use sources in other languages. Also, per WP:NONENG, "When citing a non-English source for information, it is not always necessary to provide a translation." Since I'm fluent in both languages, I can assure you that the whole article truthfully represents the source cited. So the source is verifiable. Thus, technically, there was no reason for your revert. I'll assume it was just a misunderstanding, and I hope we've cleared it here. As a side note, I'm not aware of an equivalent English source for the same information, otherwise I would happily include it. Air Namibia

I'm the IP who edited the Air Namibia entry, and removed the "Leased from Lufthansa" note from the fleet. The source that is quoted (flight international) says that these aircraft are leased, and that they are ex Lufthansa. They were leased by Lufthansa from the same company that now leases them to Air Namibia (http://www.airfleets.net/ficheapp/plane-a340-51.htm). Nowhere in the source is it stated that Lufthansa is now the company leasing them to Air Namibia. Well, this is no firm source by itself, but rather my subjective rebuttal of the source, so please let me prove as follows. Airfleet.net states (http://www.airfleets.net/flottecie/Air%20Namibia-active-a340.htm) the MSN being 47 and 51. These frames have their individual entries (http://www.airfleets.net/ficheapp/plane-a340-47.htm) and (http://www.airfleets.net/ficheapp/plane-a340-51.htm), where Air France and Sabena have been listed as previous operators. Lufthansa had these aircraft for only three years. They got them used (unlike any other A340s), and quite later than the previous planes. Now, this by itself is no proof that LH is not the owner, but I think it may back up my claim that whoever put the flight international article in as a source misread the text. I won't start an edit war, but please, if I convinced you, then please delete the note again.

EasyJet Manchester

Hello about the edits you did to Manchester Airport, EasyJet flights to Prague and Thessaloniki are now bookable on EasyJet's website. I do add references but not to routes as they are usually bookable through the airline. Plus the sources get removed anyway once the route starts. Aerolineas Argentinas LV-JNE

The hijack of Boeing 737-287C tail number LV-JNE is a very notable event in Argentinean and AA history. 28 people died in action as a result of Operation Primicia and several terrorists used this plane to flew away and left it abandoned in a grass field. It took 16 days to make it fly again and an aluminium airstrip had to be shipped and assembled in the location for the plane to take off.

Many other accidents in the list do not involve deaths or material losses, see the 28 September 1966 hijack. Notability is somewhat a subjective concept.
