Reply: Tamil Eelam

Jim, You have made a comment on the following which I posted.

"Evidence of a settlement of people with burial practices similar to that found in the Tamil Nadu region in India and further North was excavated at megalithic burial sites at Pomparippu in the western coast and in Kathiraveli in the eastern coast. These are dated between 2nd century BC and 2nd century AD." This is a completely misleading comment. Please refer article "https://www.scribd.com/mobile/doc/113992242/Dravidian-Settlements-in-Ceylon-and-the-Beginnings-of-the-Kingdom-of-Jaffna-By-Karthigesu-Indrapala-Complete-Phd-Thesis-University-of-London-1965". This clearly shows that Tamil settlements in Sri Lanka does not go beyond 12th century AD. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Yasanthaw (talk • contribs) 00:07, 6 October 2016 (UTC)

@Yasanthaw: The thesis is dated 1965, de Silva is 1995. Perhaps other finds were made? Has this thesis been peer-reviewed and published in an academic journal? Jim1138 (talk) 01:37, 6 October 2016 (UTC)

This thesis has been submitted to the University of London in 1965. visit https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/K._Indrapala to see the details of the person "K Indrapala". He has received his PhD from the University of London for this thesis. I hope that the University of London will not offer a PhD for a false thesis.

@Yasanthaw: You didn't answer my question. Was this published in a peer-reviewed academic journal or not. You also didn't address that it was done 30 years prior to de Silva. A lot happens in 30 years. Jim1138 (talk) 20:05, 6 October 2016 (UTC)

Hello can you guide me regarding what i can upload.

If i want to upload information related to a scientific research I am doing for my Company.

I want to know the following:

1) Can i define the name of companies i am working for? 2) What are the rules and conditions that i must keep in mind? 3) Who takes the ownership or credit for the written material (will my name be displayed with the mentioned information)? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 39.44.179.232 (talk) 09:13, 10 October 2016 (UTC)

It might be best to ask at the wp:teahouse. See WP:CC BY-SA which is the normal license used. There are several types of licenses which are acceptable. The licenses are essentially public domain with attribution (not quite - read the license info) If you created the data, it would be credited to you. If the file is someone else's, you would need to provide proof that you have permission to upload it. I would recommend that you get an wp:account. This makes it easier to upload, get attribution, and communicate. I am no means an expert in this area, so I would suggest the teahouse for more precise info. Hope this helps. Your help

I noticed you deal with vandals. I didn't want to post this one because it's not quite a vandal. Please look at this edit. This editor has spammed a number of articles with a link to a non-notable magazine (likely one he or she owns), and I don't feel comfortable reverting all their edits. While I assume good faith, I've also not had much luck in the past leaving messages on the talk pages of these editors in the hope they will self-revert. You help would be appreciated. Thanks. Magnolia677 (talk) 10:48, 10 October 2016 (UTC)

@Magnolia677: Yep, looks like he's plugging the magazine. Way too many links to be just a casual edit. That is wp:spam. wp:NOTPROMOTION would apply, I believe. Not really an expert here.
Thanks for your help. Magnolia677 (talk) 10:57, 10 October 2016 (UTC)

Yemeksepeti page

Hello Jim,

My name is Ceylan Hunal, I am the corporate communicatio manager of Yemeksepeti for the past 2 years. I wanted to make all the recent changes I made because foodonclick is no longer operates under Yemeksepeti. After Delivery Hero acquired us back in May 2015 we gave all our other country operations to Delivery Hero. We are now mainly focusing on Turkey and I want our wiki page to reflect that. So please accept my changes ı made where there was any reference to foodonclick. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ceylanhunal (talkcontribs) 11:16, 10 October 2016 (UTC)

hello again

if you found my edits unreasonable can you help me on how to fix it? Because right now yemeksepeti page has wrongful information. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ceylanhunal (talkcontribs) 11:48, 10 October 2016 (UTC)

I've been attempting to correct a misconception about Omarosa that goes unchecked on many web sites: that she has a PhD. According to the ProQuest Dissertations and Theses database, she hasn't completed and defended a dissertation, which means that she doesn't have a PhD. But whenever I attempt to edit the Omarosa entry to reflect this fact, my edits are ignored. What gives?  :-) 24.252.246.56 (talk) 04:13, 11 October 2016 (UTC)

Huh? Are you the same person who made this edit? It appears that the editor is concluding that since they can't find a record of a successful dissertation that there is no PhD. That would be wp:synth. Synthesis is not allowed on Wikipedia. Find a wp:reliable source that states she has not completed her PhD. As this is a wp:BLP, the source's reliability must be of high quality. Jim1138 (talk) 04:20, 11 October 2016 (UTC)

Tigrayans

Hello Jim1138.

I made several edits about the Tigrayans86.89.46.70 (talk) 07:00, 11 October 2016 (UTC) , especially about the notable people section There are Aksumite kings included even though Aksumites86.89.46.70 (talk) 07:00, 11 October 2016 (UTC) was the proto ancestors of several Ethiopian & Eritrean ethnic groups and they spoke Ge'ez a now extinct language. So it's not accurate from a linguistic point of view to include Aksumite kings into the Tigrayans. [1] These are the Aksumite kings not Tigrayans86.89.46.70 (talk) 07:00, 11 October 2016 (UTC)

Amhara people

Hello Jim, i saw the Amhara article, I don't know how it quite works with all the editing, but thank you for your patience.

I saw several mistakes in the Amhara people article. I was most horrified when i read the so-called validity of ethnic group status we are an ancient people who contributed a lot in the history of the Horn of Africa. I plead you to remove that section, it only offends people, it's like being denied or questioned of your identity. That source of Takkele Tadesse is no where to be found, neither is the professor. It's not only a questionable source, but also demeaning for over 25 million of ethnic Amhara's.

As for Haile Selassie he is included in the Oromo people when only his wife the empress is of Oromo descent. Haile Selassie spoke only Amharic and his father Makonnen Wolde Mikael is from the town of Ankober in the Amhara region.

I really don't like all these misinformation about my country. I will figure out how to include sources in them, but i would like Wikipedia to stop demeaning my people, we are the second largest ethnic group in Ethiopia, and that section with that very questionable source that question the validity of ethnic group status is insulting, humilating and very demeaning against proud people. If you have doubt whether we are a valid ethnic group, then Jim i would like to invite you to visit Ethiopia and see our people and culture.

I hope you understand why i needed to do those edits, thank you for your patience sir!86.89.46.70 (talk) 19:38, 11 October 2016 (UTC)

there is nothing called national club of india,, i came to know from different forum that there are 5 RTI cases replied with a same phrase.. so it will be better to not to write fake information in wikipedia, you can write a letter to RTI any point of time for more details. i hope you will talk to your legal advisor to take next step while you are using a wrong information in wiki using a word "national".. hope i make u understand. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Tanmoyroychoudhury (talkcontribs) 20:41, 11 October 2016 (UTC)

Changes on St. John Maron

Yes, Jim I removed that material because it was 1) irrelevant to the topic section which was on the St. John Maron's elevation to Patriarch 2) extremely controversial and impossible to defend on historical grounds for the reasons why see the wiki page on the Mardaites (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mardaites) and 3) confused a couple of facts making what was being asserted not only on a topic that was irrelevant, contentious and speculative but also unclear. I think I will return in the future to clean up all the sections and fill them out. However, I thought, at least, for the time being that I would remove the problematic content. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2605:6000:ED47:AF00:B8A6:46B4:30CE:D595 (talk) 21:16, 11 October 2016 (UTC)

Yes, Jim I removed that material for the following reasons: 1) it was irrelevant to the topic section in which it was posted, which was on St. John Maron's elevation to Patriarch, 2) was controversial speculative and contentious, as well as being impossible to defend on historical grounds, for the reasons why see the wiki page on the Mardaites (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mardaites) and 3) confused a couple of facts making what was being asserted not only irrelevant, contentious and speculative but also simply unclear. I think I will return in the future to clean up all the sections and fill out the whole article. However, I thought, at least, for the time being that I would remove the problematic content.

P.S. I also made changes to the section above it (St. John Maron's early life), deleting the last couple of sentences. I did this because 1) it was inaccurate (until St. John Maron became its first Patriarch there was no Maronite church and 2) outside of any factual errors the general content of the information was actually the subject of the next section on St. John Maron's elevation to the status of Patriarch, so the errors of fact aside it was also redundant.

Basically my changes amounted to simplifying the sections while removing irrelevant, contentious, unsupported, redundant or ambiguous information. This whole page could use some work which as I suggested I hope to be able to do in the upcoming weeks... It also seemed clear that the information I removed were later additions to the article which were added, ostensibly, for polemical reasons. So I would further suggest that if future authors would like to introduce any controversies then another section be added that deals specifically with the various positions that have been taken on questions of Orthodoxy of the early Maronite community.

P.S.S Sorry to keep editing this but there is one additional justification for my edits I would like to make. Basically the material I removed in both sections were in blatant contradiction. So outside of all the problems I've mentioned above if there material was deleted then a lot of new material would have to have been added explaining the contradiction between the two sections, which in effect would constitute the controversy section I just mentioned. As it stood the section on St. John Maron's early life defended his Orthodoxy while the extraneous information in the section on his Patriarchy contradicted all the assertions of the previous section. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2605:6000:ED47:AF00:B8A6:46B4:30CE:D595 (talk) 22:06, 11 October 2016 (UTC)

Regarding the hoklo page

Just by doing a simple research by looking at the Early Life section of Yuan T. Lee wikipage, we know that his ancestors were hoklos from Quanzhou in Fujian, the same village as hoklo philosopher Li Zhi was born in, as proven by the citation in his Early life section. Source:https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yuan_T._Lee#Early_life. I have therefore included the citation in the hoklo people page and reverted your alteration of my edit. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 59.189.112.120 (talk) 08:27, 13 October 2016 (UTC)

Yes you idiot, as the source stated Yuan T. @9kiing: Many don't watch table tennis. That is why it needs to be reliably sourced. Wikipedia needs to be wp:verifiable; people want to know that information came from reliable sources. Please, by all means add that Ovtcharov is a backhand-oriented player - with a reference. You can find who added content in the wp:page history. Jim1138 (talk) 09:21, 15 October 2016 (UTC)

Careful

Please check your last two reverts on Turkmenistan. The edits by the IP appear to be constructive. Regards — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 08:13, 18 October 2016 (UTC)

@MSGJ: I see what you mean. Huggle does not give one any indication that a link such as Architecture of Turkmenistan is red. The Huggle uw-delete1&2 templates do request that the editor give a reason in the ES. The templates are problematic when an editor is templated out of sequence. i.e. u-delete3&4 do not mention ES which they probably should. I notice that the IP never left any ES. It would be nice if there were sufficient RCPs to chase down what an editor intended, nice if editors left an edit summary, and nice if editors were to ask why they were given a warning instead of repeating the same mistake. Suggestions? Cheers Jim1138 (talk) 10:10, 18 October 2016 (UTC)

John Entwistle

Hello, Jim. I was checking John's wiki, and I found a few mistakes. And there were some things I wanted to add. For example, his mother's name was Queenie, not Maud. I do enjoy this wiki page, and found some useful information from it. But as a big John Entwistle fan, there were some changes to be made. I hope you approve and let me do the edits I needed to do, and add the things I wanted to do. I also wanted to add a section on his nicknames, because the man had many of them, and many reasons for them. So thank you for providing the page. Do you want a list of mistakes or something? Cos I can provide one, if you want. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Georgestarrlover (talkcontribs) 00:05, 22 October 2016 (UTC)

Fair enough. I haven't followed everything he's done, but he's been civil and cooperative with me even though we disagree. I thought of defusing what seemed to me at first sight like an overreaction to an editor who is confused about our guidelines. Abjiklɐm (tɐlk) 00:42, 22 October 2016 (UTC)

Hi there, I checked the edit thing. I was a little confused. What were the mistakes I Made? I still am very confused, I'm completly new to wiki. Thanks for the reply, but I disagree. WP:PRIMARY sources can be used with care, but in this case, it's not a primary source. Vox is a secondary source. Biosthmors (talk) pls notify me (i.e. {{U}}) while signing a reply, thx 02:08, 22 October 2016 (UTC)

I deleted the sentence in the first paragraph that had been deleted by the new user and added the citation from that sentence to the two other two sentences at the end of the lead section which the user also had deleted. That keeps the criticism, including the first reference, but does not open the article with criticism in the second sentence, though it is not far removed from it. While I think the initial full deletion was wrong and obviously was an attempt to sanitize the article or boost the herbology, I thought that making a partial change without losing the point might be a good change in this case. Whether that will satisfy the user or people who are boosters of this is another question, I suppose. If you disagree, feel free to restore the entire text. Donner60 (talk) 03:11, 22 October 2016 (UTC)

@Donner60: Criticism such as "pseudoscience" in the lede is unusual. CH makes numerous claims which are pseusoscientific. People do use CH in lieu of main-stream medicine to their detriment too often. The placement of "pseudoscience" in the lede of traditional Chinese medicine has been discuss at great length and it remains in the lede. So, I think it should be in the lede of CH. Any insight? Thanks for the note. Cheers Jim1138 (talk) 03:30, 22 October 2016 (UTC)
No. I was not familiar with the history. This is one of those instances where a look at the talk page would have been a good idea. Since this was an article that I edited rather than just reviewed, I probably should have checked that. On the other hand, I was trying to keep most of the criticism so I did not think I was doing a wholesale type of change. In any event, I at least suspected you might know more about it and I am glad you were familiar with it and set the article straight. Donner60 (talk) 03:36, 22 October 2016 (UTC)
@Donner60: There is not much on talk:CH, but much on talk:TCM. Also: wp:pseudoscience There are fringe and pseudoscience sanctions I have a short attention span. I revert until someone sez "see talk page". That seems to be how my mind is wired. The mindset of a RCP, I guess. Arbcom discretionary sanctions notice:

....John Entwistle...

Okay, well I have a few sources. You know that documentary An Ox's Tale by his friend, Steve Loungo? Well, his mom is in it. And her name is Queenie. And I believe in Pete's autobio. "Who I Am" he mentions that John's mother's name was Queenie. I don't exactly remember what sources for John's death place are, but I certainly know he infact died in Las Vegas. Also, some of the info on the songs were wrong. "Doctor Doctor" was not on "The Who Sell Out", it was on "A Quick One". "I've Been Away" was on "A Quick One" too, and you left that out. My sources? Check any cd, cassette, or record, and you'll see in the track listing which songs are on where. In Godfrey Townshend's blog, he explains that he had the job of waking john up in the morning, because John could not hear the sound of an alarm clock. In your bit about john's deafness, I thought that was a neat thing to add. My sources for John's nickname Enty, is all over any social mediea sigt. Such as Tumblr and Wattpad, all the kids on there call Enty, "Enty"(I am one of those kids). For my source of the nickname the Prince of Darkness, Steve Loungo talks about it in his blog. There's a neat little story about it, so I thought I could include that on the section I wanted to add for his nicknames. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Georgestarrlover (talkcontribs) 12:49, 22 October 2016 (UTC)

Thanks for you help. Regards Colin (Stoddart)

@Jim1138:

My apologies didn't realize a edit summary was necessary.

It's a beautiful holiday and the wiki needn't be marred by statements of execution or life in prison for releasing a lantern. It not true, citation 5 describes the governor of bangkok stating "Those who do not abide by the law are subjected to an imprisonment of up to three months, or a fine not exceeding 6,000 baht, or both" this is in reference to releasing lanterns near the airport. What I removed was from Reference six and was a controversial, inflammatory, click bait article quoting the maximum sentence for damaging an aircraft in flight. please remove it :)

Southport F.C.

Sorry if I was too hasty - I just skimmed Blowick and Southport, saw that they both listed Merseyside in their infoboxes, and reverted. Is there some sort of distinction I'm not aware of? --Iiii I I I (talk) 05:45, 25 October 2016 (UTC)

@Iiii I I I and Mattythewhite: Good question. Those Brits seem to gerrymander their cities. The IP seemed quite insistent and I apparently was in a mood to check out some soccar football, I guess. Usually, the info results in the editor getting another warning, but this time not. Probably scratching her/his head. Cheers Jim1138 (talk) 05:49, 25 October 2016 (UTC)
The Southport official website may list their address as Lancashire, but the fact is (and this can be easily verified) that Southport has resided in the metropolitan county of Merseyside since the Local Government Act 1972 came into effect in 1974. Lancashire may be regarded valid as a postal address, but we would be misinforming our readers if this content remains. Mattythewhite (talk) 14:09, 25 October 2016 (UTC)
@Iiii I I I and Mattythewhite: I have no invested interest in the location. I did a quick search on Soutport F.C.'s address. Everything I found was just "Haig Avenue, Southport, PR8 6JZ" with no mention of county - Merseyside nor Lancashire. The postcode per google sits right on top of the F.C. stand. Perhaps the county should be removed as being not RS? OR- The Southport F.C. field is about 1km outside of the Lancashire well within the Merseyside border. As an aside: the San Diego Zoo Safari Park while inside the San Diego city limits has an Escondido city mailing address. Jim1138 (talk) 19:50, 25 October 2016 (UTC)

Ron Dias/Joanne Jansen/Friends With Benefits

These three articles were all created by a user named Ronandaussie, who appears to be the actual subjects who have created the page. Is this not a explicit conflict of interest? I have marked them for speedy deletion as they certainly do not meet the Wikipedia notability guidelines and have very poor, unreliable sources that aren't credible. Users are not allowed to create Wikipedia pages for themselves. Please take the time to look over these pages. Thank you.

I had all three articles on my list as probable notability deletion targets but I was giving them some time before I dealt with them together. I note that the speedies added by User:Samseratta are not properly made since they have no stated reasons in the tags. The reason given in the edit summary (COI) is not a valid reason for a speedy deletion. Meters (talk) 23:31, 25 October 2016 (UTC)
More detailed analysis in the thread on my page. Probably best to make a group AFD for these. Meters (talk) 23:51, 25 October 2016 (UTC)

SMDiaz96 Most of the articles are from commercial websites that have a vested interest in people exercising. They are therefore of questionable reliability. RE: UK Rape Statistics

There needs to be clarifications as to why you have added individual interpretation to the 06-07 Crime Statistics page and changed the term "sexual crime" to "rape" and also included all "sexual crime accusations" as "rapes". This is not only not stated in the report but is misleading. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mboyd17 (talkcontribs) 10:05, 28 October 2016 (UTC)

Additionally, there are no references to any of the described numerical statistics presented in the article which are shown in the report. Can you clarify where these can be found? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mboyd17 (talkcontribs) 10:14, 28 October 2016 (UTC)

@Mboyd17: The report defines "serious sexual abuse" as rape. See wp:common name - therefore "rape". The report does not use "sexual crime" as you changed it to regarding statistics. Jim1138 (talk) 16:47, 28 October 2016 (UTC)

Listen Jim 1138, I don't know who you are or what your agenda is. Clearly you have no idea of what is going on in Ethiopia right now. I do. I live in Ethiopia. My country is in a state of emergency right now and one of the things banned is using any media to report or propagate information the incite ethnic violence in the country. THe state of emergency lasts for six months. That is why I am editing this wikipedia page. You can gladly bring back all the paragraphs I have deleted in six months when the state of emergency ends.

Res Halls of Notre Dame

Hi Jim1138, I know I didn't put a source, but I added the Fisher motto (Ya Gotta Regatta) and Regis Philbin as a notable alumni of the hall, my source is that I live in Fisher Hall. I am a junior at Notre Dame living in Fisher. The term "Ya Gotta ____" is used in many different terms, for example, our SYR (Setup/Screw Your Roommate) Dance is the Fisher Funk, a 70's themed dance where we go bowling dressed up in 70's fashion. Every email signed says "Ya Gotta Funk", and for winning Hall of the Year, we get Dome Dance, and for that email, they said "YGDD" (Ya Gotta Dome Dance). I don't have any formal citations other than that, I can try to send a picture if you would like of an email. Let me know, thanks! 66.254.224.24 (talk) 05:03, 1 November 2016 (UTC)
