Page: Adrian Starblanket (Deleted: 2010)

Hi, JohnCD.

I see there was a previous page in 2010 of: Adrian Starblanket on Wikipedia and Due to "Copyright" laws from: www.myspace.com/AdrianStarblanket that page was deleted.

But, I: ADRIAN STARBLANKET (ask nicely, if I can have that page back or am able to create a new one)?

I just signed on to Wikipedia and alot has changed from 2010-2012...

please message back,

sincerely, Adrian Starblanket — Preceding unsigned comment added by Astar2388 (talkcontribs) 08:37, 24 May 2012 (UTC)

We can't restore the 2010 page, for copyright reasons. If you own the text, you could make a formal copyright release, but that's not often worth doing because Myspace and Facebook pages are usually too promotional for an encyclopedia article. Writing an article about yourself is strongly discouraged, for reasons explained at Wikipedia:Autobiography and Wikipedia is not about YOU. More advice on your talk page soon. Recover deleted page - Holy Musical B@man! (soundtrack)

Do you mind recovering the above article you deleted today and put a copy in my user area? It will allow me to improve it when I get time. Eladkse (talk) 17:04, 24 May 2012 (UTC)

Done. I have userfied it for you to User:Eladkse/Holy Musical B@man! (soundtrack). I'm not clear whether this is an album or just songs, but please read WP:NALBUMS and WP:NSONGS and understand that you need references about this to establish its own notability - it does not inherit any notability from the show. As it was deleted at AfD, you should not move it back to the mainspace without my agreement that you have overcome the issues from the AfD. If I don't agree, you can take it to WP:Deletion review. JohnCD (talk) 10:41, 25 May 2012 (UTC)
Thanks. I was aware about the notability issues, but I just don't have the time and so I kept out of the actual vote. Eladkse (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 15:25, 25 May 2012 (UTC).

Paul McAneary Architects Ltd

Dear John, I'm writing from Paul McAneary Architects to ask whether you could tell us the reason why you deleted our page on the 7th Feb.2012. It's the first time we upload an article on Wikipedia and we would really appreciate any comments and suggestions to fix the article. Thank you Best wishes, Carlotta — Preceding unsigned comment added by 93.148.97.147 (talk) 20:03, 24 May 2012 (UTC)

I deleted it because, seven minutes after user PaulMcAneary (talk · contribs) posted the article, he blanked it and replaced it with {{db-g7}}, which is a code meaning "author requests deletion". Seeing that he was a new user, I left a note on his talk page explaining that Wikipedia is not the sort of business listing site where people write about their own companies. See the WP:FAQ/Organizations for more advice. JohnCD (talk) 11:33, 25 May 2012 (UTC)

Drew Stevyns Wiki Page

Hi Jonny,

I read over the deletion policy and I understand why the article that I post was delete. Would you be willing to restore my article to my sandbox so that I can work on it more? I will include some reference and give it more substance.

Sorry for posting this without good references. I will work on it more, until I get it right, Promise...

Thank you so much in advance.

Upload a photo

Hi. This is DominiquesMusic, and I have one question.
On the page "Billboard (magazine)", it gives a picture of the company's logo. However, it does not have a picture of a magazine from Billboard.
Before I do anything, I wanted to know if it was possible to upload a picture of their magazine on the page http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Billboard_(magazine)?
I do know there are certain types of photos that are allowed to be posted on here, and others who should not that have copyright on them.
I'm actually subscribed to them; so I get their magazine almost every week/every issue.

Need feedback

I'd like to draw your attention toward the article at User:Maharathi/sandbox and invite your valuable suggestions and feedback to improve the article. Maharathi (talk) 01:49, 26 May 2012 (UTC)

  • What do you say, John? It looks pretty good--but the references are not in my language. Drmies (talk) 02:03, 26 May 2012 (UTC)
Hey, guys, Maharathi invited me to this party as well (not sure why, but whatev), so I'll keep the discussion centralized here, if y'all don't mind. I made a first pass at some proofreading/copyediting; I'm hoping it'll be a bit better now. As to the content (and with deference to you guys, as I'm not very experienced in such things), it seems okay to me, but perhaps a little promotional. I'd say that the "philosophy of treatment" section could probably use some reworking to emphasize that it's Dr. Mani's views; I think this is needed since his views don't seem to agree with those of the medical community at large. Writ Keeper 05:06, 26 May 2012 (UTC)
I noticed that Drmies G12 and G11'ed it last time. I'm having a great many problems verifying this in English, however. I find zero returns that aren't linkedin and facebook, no hits at hindustantimes.com or the Times of India website, which is troubling. I received my invitation this morning. I have to give them credit to taking the rock soup approach. Dennis Brown - © 10:33, 26 May 2012 (UTC)
I could understand the difficulty faced by Dennis. The article, he searched online, was published in 1992 and none of the Indian newspaper were online that time. I could also understand that most of my references are in Hindi language because majority Indian speaks Hindi so the contribution of Hindi newspaper much larger than English newspaper. But I can assure all gentlemen with utmost responsibility that the inline citations used in the article are authentic, relevant to the content referenced and verifiable. The newspapers’ articles used as reference here aren’t online but the credibility of the newspaper can be verified itself on Wikipedia.
Moreover, as far as I’m aware of the norms of verifiability on Wikipedia (I may be wrong), it isn’t required the source to be available online but must be published by a reliable source. The matter of verifiability should not be connected with easy availability of sources. Further, it isn’t required to provide convenience links for articles published in reputed newspapers.Maharathi (talk) 13:11, 26 May 2012 (UTC)
Maharathi, you are correct--there are no such requirements. It helps, of course, to have online references in English so other editors, who aren't as multilinguistically blessed as you, can evaluate. But if those English online references aren't there that's not a reason to criticize the article. It does, however, place on you the burden to be as neutral as possible so Writ Keeper's editorial advice is worth taking. Thank you for working with the community! Writ Keeper, feel like moving the article to main space, if you think it's OK? Drmies (talk) 15:48, 26 May 2012 (UTC)
I think it looks pretty good. My concern about verification was mainly its chances at AFD if someone were to challenge it. There is one See Also, "Concern over antibiotics’ misuse". The Times of India (Patna). April 8, 2011. that I was not able to find, which was my main concern. They did not show an article of that title at the website, and I figured they would. Perhaps the date or title is incorrect? Dennis Brown - © 15:59, 26 May 2012 (UTC)
Oh, yes. I generally approve of "Further reading" sections: I have the feeling these are articles by the subject. If so, I believe they should be cut, since we're not a bibliography. Drmies (talk) 16:09, 26 May 2012 (UTC)
Thanks to all contributors: yes, I think this is ready to go, and I have moved it to Dinesh Kumar Mani with just one tweak to the "Philosophy of treatment" section following up Writ Keeper's suggestion. Maharathi, congratulations on reacting in exactly the right way to having your first shot deleted, I look forward to your further contributions. JohnCD (talk) 16:24, 26 May 2012 (UTC)
Hey, all, I seem to have missed the action; this being Memorial Day weekend in the States, I was a good citizen and spent the day on the beach. I'd like to also congratulate Maharathi on rebounding from a speedy deletion to make a pretty decent article. Well done! Writ Keeper 20:58, 26 May 2012 (UTC)
Thanks to all contributors for their support and guidance without which I couldn’t present the article in the current form.Maharathi (talk) 01:35, 27 May 2012 (UTC)

Restoration to sandbox (2)

Hey JohnCD,

It took a lot of reading to chew through all the info on why my page was deleted and what I can do to restore it. I'm impressed with your dedication to Wikipedia and the work you've done. I'm requesting that the page Captain Timothy Edward Peterson, MD be restored to a sandbox so that I can continue working on it. I recognize that my sources were weak. With additional time to work on it I can supply more credible sources to legitimize the page.

Thank you,

speterhb — Preceding unsigned comment added by Speterhb (talkcontribs) 17:55, 26 May 2012 (UTC)

"This page is going to be used as an introduction for his new patients" - you're joking, right? One reference that is a list entry that shows he was at med school, one that is about a different Tim Peterson, two that don't mention him at all; jokey nonsense about "random acts of raucous" "the exoskeletal hexapod armies of Texas" and "the Great Potato Famine of Bancroft." If I were a new patient confronted with that, I would run a mile.
Seriously, Wikipedia is not here to provide a bio of a newly-qualified doc for his patients. For that sort of thing you want Myspace. Reading through the nonsense, he (I presume, you) worked for a mission, tinkered in music a bit, and is now an Air Force Captain and a newly-qualified doctor. Good for him, but nothing there comes near the WP:Notability requirement to have an encyclopedia article, and I would only be wasting your time by letting you add more references. A barnstar for you!

The Original Barnstar
Thanks John. I Actually felt like deleting the contents on my talk page.
One of my friends and I went over my information. He said that the info should rather be on a blog versus being on WikiPedia.
The information I posted described the differences in Urban contemporary and Rhythmic contemporary. However, I made a mistake by posting a fictional story, rather than information from the already-pages Urban and Rhythmic.
Thanks for deleting it. I also received the policies as far as uploading photos.
DominiquesMusic (talk) 23:00, 26 May 2012 (UTC)
  • Thank you, again, but enough barnstars for now! I didn't delete that material, I only moved it to a sub-page and gave you a link to where it is now; but I did have some doubts about whether it was likely to become an article. The WP:No original research policy has an important section WP:SYNTHESIS: "Do not combine material from multiple sources to reach or imply a conclusion not explicitly stated by any of the sources." I think your friend was right, and if you agree that your story isn't really appropriate for Wikipedia, you can ask for it to be deleted by putting {{db-user}} at the top. Regards, JohnCD (talk) 23:12, 26 May 2012 (UTC)

Backlog declogging.

Hello. Do you know any admin that regularly patrols WP:RFPP at this time of day? That page is currently backlogged with requests, including Eurovision-related articles and my requests for protection of Daigunder and Children's programming on NBC (regularly vandalized by the Indonesian misinformation vandal, nonetheless). - 上村七美 (Nanami-chan) | talkback | contribs 23:24, 26 May 2012 (UTC)

Sorry - you missed me, I am in UTC+1, so I am usually ceasing to be active by then. I see those have been taken care of, but I have seen other comments about backlogs at RFPP, so I will try to take a look at it more often. JohnCD (talk) 09:58, 27 May 2012 (UTC)

Ryan Murphy (Australian Politician)

Hi,

I was writing to please ask you to restore the Ryan Murphy (Australian politican) page that was speedily deleted.

Following the 2012 Brisbane City Council election, Ryan Murphy was elected to be the member for Doboy Ward, defeating 28 year incumbent John Campbell. Ryan is the youngest elected member to Council this term and has recieved attention from newspapers couriermail.com.au and brisbanetimes.com.au. He is also listed on the official Brisbane City Council website and the information I put for Ryan far exceeds that listed for other Australian politicans, such as Verity Barton for example (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Verity_Barton) , yet his page was deleted.

Example of notable press: http://www.brisbanetimes.com.au/queensland/lnp-welcomes-three-new-bcc-faces-20120429-1xsnm.html

Ryan Murphy's election credentials can also be found at the Electoral Commission of Queensland's (the body that runs Queensland elections) website: http://www.ecq.qld.gov.au/elections/local/LG2012/BrisbaneCity/results/councillor/district5.html

If I can provide any more information or references, I'd be most happy to do so to ensure this page is restored.

Thank you very much!

John Smith

Jsmith071991 (talk) 15:39, 27 May 2012 (UTC)

There are many substandard articles, so that What about that other article? is not generally an argument that is accepted; however, Verity Barton, as an MLA at the State level, is notable per WP:POLITICIAN, but Ryan Murphy as a city councillor is not. The issue is not how much information is in the article, but whether it shows notability in Wikipedia's terms. Your link is a local press article listing his name as one of three new councillors; that sort of thing, and "youngest elected member to Council this term." is not enough - see WP:42. JohnCD,

You deleted a page I started, no worries, I know it wasn't complete, my question is, should I have started it in my sandbox? I'd like to complete the page (what I did seems to have disappeared). I suppose I could redo it, make it more complete (show why it is notable), completely off line, then upload. Is there a way to recover what I had started?

TRUEFAME (talk) 13:17, 30 May 2012 (UTC)
  • I presume the page you mean is "We own the sky". I'm sorry, but that page is not going to be accepted however much it is rewritten, because the subject is not suitable for Wikipedia - an unsigned band which is only playing for their friends and family. There are sites like Myspace where you could write about them, but Wikipedia is different: it is an encyclopedia, so it is choosy about subjects, and for bands the standard is explained at WP:BAND - we are looking for something like two albums released on a major label, or a song in a national chart. So good luck to We own the sky, but they have a long way to go before they are ready for Wikipedia. JohnCD (talk) 15:23, 30 May 2012 (UTC)
Uh...just FYI, RHaworth blocked him. Writ Keeper 15:30, 30 May 2012 (UTC)
The same article was posted a week ago by another account which reacted to its deletion with extremely foul-mouthed attacks on all concerned and was blocked; I guess RH assumed, or maybe knows, that this is a sock. 16:19, 30 May 2012 (UTC)
Yeah, I was involved with that incident. I still think it's a little bit precipitate, as even if it is the same guy, he's not evading a block or anything, and he hasn't repeated any incivil behavior. But, not my call; I bow to greater experience. Writ Keeper 16:46, 30 May 2012 (UTC)

deleted page FiL Straughan

Hi JohnCD

I was just about to add more information to this page but I see it has been deleted! Is there any chance it could be undeleted? There are online magazine interviews to add, and IMA nomination info. There are also entries to the discography to add - distribution appears to be fairly widespread, with numerous plays on Japanese TV...

Nicswoland (talk) 16:04, 30 May 2012 (UTC)

You should ask user Drmies (talk), the administrator who deleted the article. Read WP:MUSICBIO first, and be aware of Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/FiL Straughan. Out of curiosity, why did you ask me? I don't think I have had anything to do with this one. JohnCD (talk) 16:13, 30 May 2012 (UTC)

Deletion of the Rockett Movado articles

Hi, John!

I'm sorry about recreating the pages without first consulting you. I tried to send you a message about it earlier, but I couldn't figure out how to do it at the time (I'm fairly new to Wikipedia). I appreciate your correcting these articles, because they did not site any notible references. Wikipedia had warned me earlier that my pages needed to site such references, but I (again) did not know much about it, therefore I did not post any. I've searched for links to prove that these series are legitimate, but of course, sites like IGN and other gaming websites do not always provide clear information. I found some proof of the series on Amazon.com, but I do not know if that's truly an eligible reference. With all due respect, I'd love to keep my articles up, because I spent a lot of time and research conducting them, and I created these pages myself. I'd love to be able to provide information for the series for those who'd like to be in the know. Again, I'm very sorry for reposting these without your consent. I wish I could have figured out how to message you prior to what I did. But I do hope that you will forgive me, and, if possible, help me find some reliable sources so that I can keep my pages up (with your permission). I appreciate your time! Wikipedia looks great! Thanks for all you do!

No problem, and now you have found how to contact me. I'm out of time tonight, but I will give some advice on your talk page tomorrow. One important point is that articles should not consist almost entirely of plot summary - you might like to look at WP:WAF. JohnCD (talk) 22:18, 28 May 2012 (UTC)

Thank you so much! I really appreciate it. Have a great rest of the day!:) --Yassigurl101 (talk) 22:28, 28 May 2012 (UTC)Yassigurl101

JohnCD, Thanks again for getting back with me so quickly! I really appreciate everything, and I now understand all that was missing in the articles - I have to agree with you that it would be pretty unlikely to find any legitimate references and sources since the series is so old, and the company no longer exists. I do, however, have one more question for you: You mentioned something about starting up a wikia page instead. Would it be alright with you to start one of those? Thanks again, John! You've made things a lot clearer for this newcomer, and I've learned a lot just from your last two messages:) Waiting for your reply --Yassigurl101 (talk) 05:48, 30 May 2012 (UTC)Yassigurl101

Wikia is an entirely separate organization, unconnected with Wikipedia, so we certainly have no problem with anything you choose to do there (apart from saying that if you copy anything to there from Wikipedia you must attribute it - say which Wikipedia article you got it from). I don't know much about Wikia, but you can read about it in our article Wikia, its "front page" is at http://www.wikia.com/Wikia, and there are more ideas at WP:Alternative outlets. JohnCD (talk) 11:19, 30 May 2012 (UTC)

Oh! Okay, now I see what you mean - 'Wikis' not 'wikia.' Well, I'll check into that, and maybe I can do something on the other site instead:) You've been a great help! Thanks for your time! I hope I haven't been bothering you with all of my questions. --Yassigurl101 (talk) 06:32, 31 May 2012 (UTC)Yassigurl101

hello

hello
hello, my name is Oliver and i had been on an old account named "TRUEFAME" which i had been blocked from editing due to the fact of using abuse and fowl language towards others, which that was not me. I live with my older brother who has a band named "We own the sky" and he had used our downstairs computer to try and make a page for his band but then he had stopped because he said that he had been blocked and other things of the such. And i was deleted for being under the same IP Address and i just wanted you too know that i'm duely sorry for my brothers offensive langauge and the things that he had said whom ever. Also i have a question... my old account "TRUEFAME" was also deleted due to the fact of my name was apparently just as offensive as my brothers I Hope You Die SIncerely (which i do not quite get) My name is just in remembrence to actress Marilyn Monroe due to the Hot Topic clothing line that sells t-shirts with her face on them with that saying. And i was deleted because like i previously stated it was just as offensive and also due to it was shouting? id understand that but the saying isnt even bad or vulgar, offensive, or anything of the such? if you could write me back i'd be most grateful<3

WP:CSD#A7 doesn't apply to films in any case. Yes, they are neatly presented articles, but WP:Notability (films) is quite demanding and it's unlikely that "alternative, experimental and independent" projects will meet it - there's no indication in the articles that they have been released or even completed, and all the people involved are redlinks. We'll see if they can produce any independent refs. JohnCD (talk) 15:49, 2 June 2012 (UTC)

Friendship Gardens deletions

I noticed when you deleted My Little Pony: Friendship Gardens, you also deleted User:Ciaran Sinclair/A Canterlot Wedding. I'm not really complaining, but wondering why you deleted it as it wasn't even a redirect to My Little Pony: Friendship Gardens. Ciaran Sinclair (talk) 20:44, 3 June 2012 (UTC)

Restored: sorry about that, I don't understand it. To close AfDs I use a script which, when the result is delete, can be set to delete automatically all incoming redirects, and that is what happened here; your page was a redirect but, as you say, not to My Little Pony: Friendship Gardens but to A Canterlot Wedding, so I have no idea why the script picked on it. Rather worrying: I will tell Mr.Z-man (talk) the script author, about it. Regards, JohnCD (talk) 21:15, 3 June 2012 (UTC)
I see that your user page had a lot of text as well as the redirect and, although that text did not reference the Friendship Gardens page, there was a transclusion of {{My Little Pony}} which at that time did have a link to it. I can only think that the script, seeing #REDIRECT at the top of the page and the link in the transcluded template to Friendship Gardens, thought the page must be a redirect to it. If so, it's an abstruse bug, but a bug. I have reported it to Mr.Z-man (talk), the author of the script. JohnCD (talk) 11:54, 4 June 2012 (UTC)
Are you sure that would be the cause? Many other articles which are now redirects (i.e. Fluttershy) transcluded {{My Little Pony}} and weren't deleted by the script. Ciaran Sinclair (talk) 14:12, 4 June 2012 (UTC)
I'm not at all sure, but I don't have any other theory. Fluttershy is now only a redirect, and the template transclusion is buried in the history, but if you click "edit" on yours, it has all the text and the template in the top version, as well as the redirect. JohnCD (talk) 15:09, 4 June 2012 (UTC)

Hi, can you look at the deleted edit history for Talk:Shreya Ravindran please? I'm trying to work out if the talk page at Talk:ShreyaRavindran is genuine or not, and therefore if there is, somewhere, an older version of the article that existed before Shreyaravindran (talk · contribs) started randomly moving things backwards and forwards. Cheers. -- roleplayer 11:40, 5 June 2012 (UTC)

What a mess! I have finally blocked the user for three hours, because s/he was constantly moving the article and causing a growing tangle of redirects. The article is now at User:Shreyaravindran/Shreya Ravindran. I have placed on its talk page something I found as talk page of one of the many redirects left by the moves, which suggests that there was an earlier version of the article, but where that earlier version has got to I can't discover. Now to try to explain to SV about references... JohnCD (talk) 13:26, 5 June 2012 (UTC)
Thank you, I think it required an admin to sort it out because the user had got themselves into such a pickle. I hope we can get a decent article at the end of all of this! -- roleplayer 13:44, 5 June 2012 (UTC)

Mehrdad Raissi (مهرداد رئیسی) Deletion

SlimSlim (talk) 19:24, 5 June 2012 (UTC) Thank you ever so much for replying. The aforementioned Page was on Farsi(Persian) Wikipedia. I am not sure whether I should have posted the request there or not... I would just like to ask you to guide me how to understand why the page was deleted after a couple of years being there? There were some discussion if the person - مهرداد رئیسی - was notable to be there or famous enough. Additionally, there were enough sources which were all credible. Could you kindly help me out with getting the "Page" back? Who should I ask and how should I do that? Many thanks in advance. PS. The title of the page on Farsi(Persian) Wiki Pedia was: مهرداد رئیسی — Preceding unsigned comment added by 87.236.211.13 (talk) 19:08, 5 June 2012 (UTC)

Each Wikipedia is separate and has its own rules and procedures, so we can do nothing here about a deletion on the Farsi Wikipedia. If you search for the page there and click on any "redlink" that appears, you should see the deletion log with the name of the administrator who deleted it and the reason given. It may help you to read the Farsi page corresponding to Wikipedia:Notability, which is fa:ویکی‌پدیا:سرشناسی. Regards, JohnCD (talk) 19:37, 5 June 2012 (UTC)

Broadwood Clyde SAFC

Hi There. I have just registered to post on Wikipedia and my first posts have been fast-tracked for deletion!

my first was just a trial "The Orlando File" as it was the first thing I when I created the page.

the second, however was a page dedicated to the sports team that I was affiliated to and ran for several years. There are several references to the team, Broadwood Clyde SAFC, throughout the internet and even in some national press, detailing the competition victories.

In short i would like to request the reinstatement of the "Broadwood Clyde SAFC" wiki page. If you decide not to reinstate this page could please explain why in order that I learn from my mistakes?

thank you and kindest regards Paul — Preceding unsigned comment added by 194.81.124.196 (talk) 14:48, 6 June 2012 (UTC)

Hi John! In your opinion, is a "dental assisting school" a business? Could it go the way of CSD A7?  -- WikHead (talk) 09:12, 8 June 2012 (UTC)

Yes, I reckon it's a business. A7 has an exception for "educational institutions" but I reckon that means mainstream education, not this sort of thing. Put an A7 on it, if you like, and see what some other admin thinks. JohnCD (talk) 09:27, 8 June 2012 (UTC)
Excellent, no more hesitation. Thank you kindly for the reply! :)  -- WikHead (talk) 09:38, 8 June 2012 (UTC)
  • Update - Oddly enough John, though this article was taken down per A7 within seconds of my nomination, a verbatim copy of the article that I found about two minutes afterwards has found its way to AfD. It just goes to show that no matter how hard we try, our CSD descriptions are still very much a matter of interpretation. :) Regards,  -- WikHead (talk) 20:20, 8 June 2012 (UTC)
Yes, it's a bit of a grey area, that's why I didn't zap it myself but told you to A7 it and let another pair of admin eyes have a look. There's probably no point trying to make a clearer definition of what "educational institution" means in A7 because boundaries would be hard to define. JohnCD (talk) 21:55, 8 June 2012 (UTC)
Yes, I was rather hesitant to act on this without further advice and/or confirmation that I wasn't completely off track. I watched this article for a couple days before posting here, just to see what would happen to it if I left it alone, but it didn't appear to be catching the attention of other reviewers. I specifically asked you in this case, as I know you are the one admin who is likely to decline CSD if the nomination is not absolutely book-perfect. ;) Your opinion in this case meant a lot. :)  -- WikHead (talk) 22:44, 8 June 2012 (UTC)

He's back up to his previous editing. I've reverted again, but it's highly unlikely that he'll stop doing this. Flyer22 (talk) 16:42, 11 June 2012 (UTC)

I was just going to post the same thing. In general, what should I do when I see that someone is repetitively making malicious edits? What I have done in the past is to keep reverting the edits and wait for an admin to do a block. But I'm not always sure when an admin will notice. Any advice? Thanks. Safehaven86 (talk) 17:29, 11 June 2012 (UTC)
Sorry to be slow to respond - I was away, and then busy. I have blocked for a month since a week made no impression. Safehaven86, what to do is explained at WP:Vandalism - in brief, when you revert, give appropriate warnings like {{uw-vandalism2}}, increasing the level each time, and if there is more vandalism after a level 4 warning, make a report at WP:AIV which is watched by many admins. Read the notes headed IMPORTANT at the top of that page. JohnCD (talk) 22:01, 14 June 2012 (UTC)
Thanks much! I didn't know about WP:AIV, good to know. Thanks again! Safehaven86 (talk) 22:48, 14 June 2012 (UTC)

Page needs to be moved

This page » The Broken (album) needs to be moved to The Broken! but the task can't be completed by a general user because that page is protected from all editing. So if you could, could you maybe unprotect The Broken! and move that article to its title? • GunMetal Angel 09:26, 15 June 2012 (UTC)

No, sorry - The Broken! was about the same album, and is a redirect because two AfDs, the more recent one at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/The Broken! (2nd nomination) decided that the album was not notable enough per WP:NALBUMS to have a stand-alone article; and the redirect was protected because people kept re-creating the album article. So if you want an article about the album, you should first check out WP:NALBUMS and make sure you have enough references, and then see whether you can convince user Mandsford (talk), who closed the more recent AfD, that you have overcome the issues from the AfD. If Mandsford doesn't agree, you can go to WP:Deletion review. In the meantime, I have redirected and protected The Broken (album) in line with the result of the AfD; but if you like I will userfy it for you - move it into a user sub-page where you can work on it so as to have something to show Mandsford or a DRV. JohnCD (talk) 12:13, 15 June 2012 (UTC)
I'd rather not, they're a god-awful "band" that I care nothing for. I was just seeing if the article was being made that it could have its title moved to the correct spot. But not notable is not notable • GunMetal Angel 21:38, 15 June 2012 (UTC)

Page for the film Crulic

Hello JohnCD,

Thanks for your helpful message on my user page.

I do hope I was as objective as impartial as possible in doing my edits for the page.

I am indeed part of the team that did the animation, and of course one can say it was in our interest to be mentioned, but *not* mentioning the animation team for an independent, animated film of very special nature (our role and contribution was as big as the director's regarding the output of the film) would have been a very inaccurate way of portraying the way the film was done. And this was exactly the status of the page previously. I am quite confident that the info I introduced was both impartial, "non-promotional" in nature and useful.

I mentioned in my argumentation that I'm doing this with the approval of the producer/director and that I'm part of the team not to try to claim "ownership" of the article but simply to highlight the fact that when it comes to information about: budget, team, producers and financing institutions, I do have first hand, correct information. Which wasn't the case for the first iteration of the article, where info looked to me as being pulled from various interviews and articles from the web, which often mention those things incorrect or incomplete or in the wrong order.

As well, information mentioned in the infobox was simply not correct/complete.

A broader problem that I see is that a suitable infobox for some type of cinematographic projects simply does not exist. The closest I found would be the "Hollywood cartoon" one (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Template:Infobox_Hollywood_cartoon), but that misses fields for country, for example.

I the case of such a film (I'm not talking about Hollywood animation blockbusters with a famous director and 200 animators but about independent films done in a very different manner), there are no "Starring" but Voice-acting, the animators / art directors are few and work very closely with the director and have a major contribution to the output (it's not them fulfilling the creative vision of the director but creating the film along him/her), different production houses/studio/distribution etc. In short, I find the typical infobox completely unsuited to describe this type of project, and I couldn't find a suitable one. Again, the fields in the Hollywood cartoon infobox are the closest to what should be (Director, Story, Voice, Animation, Layout, Studio, Distribution etc).

Thank you,

Digitallysane (talk) 22:45, 17 June 2012 (UTC)

No problem - Wikipedia is not very good at explaining that it is different from sites like Myspace where people have "home pages" for themselves and their projects. I wanted to be sure you understood that, while your input is welcome, this is Wikipedia's article about the film, not yours, and will not be written just to suit your requirements.
In regard to the infobox, there is a "WikiProject", a group of editors interested in film articles, at WP:WikiProject Film. If you like to make a suggestion on their talk page for a new type of film infobox, you might well find people willing to help devise one. JohnCD (talk) 10:39, 19 June 2012 (UTC)

audit commission national fraud initiative

Dear John

You have deleted my page about the National Fraud Initiative.

I should have thought that a computer industry expert would have been interested in the way that data mining is being used to target people for investigations even though no inconsistency has been found and while the public discourse indicates that the algorithms used amount to 'data matching' defined as matching to discover anomalies and discrepancies.

My article tracked the NFI's public stance on this from the original 'identifies inconsistencies' position put to Parliament to the later and current 'identifies cases which might turn out to be inconsistent' and are 'potentially inconsistent'.

It does this in respect of a particular exercise which has resulted in widespread public disquiet and internal legal reviews within the Commission.

The objection to this article came from the NFI which said my edits overwhelmed the article. Given that my edits put into the public domain important internal issues and public issues one could argue it is likely that they simply want to close down the flow of information.

I could have been asked to shorten my section.

The original article includes 'references' to a newspaper article which itself commits exactly the 'sin' of providing misleading ideas about how the NFI works.

Encyclopoedias do often include technical material; I see no problem, with this. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Aithne Arnette (talkcontribs) 07:43, 20 June 2012 (UTC) Aithne Arnette (talk) 07:51, 20 June 2012 (UTC) Aithne

Your contribution has not been deleted - it has been moved to User:Aithne Arnette/National Fraud Initiative, a sub-page in your user space where you can work on it. What happened was that you added it to Audit Commission, but because it was over-detailed and was unbalancing the article (after your addition, two thirds of the article was about this one aspect of the Commission's work) another user, Rd232 (talk), moved it to your user space. In doing that, Rd232 first moved it to the wrong title "Aithne Arnette/National Fraud Initiative" and then on to the correct one "User:Aithne Arnette/National Fraud Initiative". All that I deleted was a "redirect" left behind by the second move.
I have not time now to read your contribution in detail - I will try to do so later today - but at a glance it does not look to me like an encyclopedia article. It seems to be polemic, you are building up a case, but that is not what an encyclopedia is for - see Wikipedia is not a soapbox. Please read the policy Wikipedia:No original research, which includes a prohibition of "synthesis": "Do not combine material from multiple sources to reach or imply a conclusion not explicitly stated by any of the sources."
For the way Wikipedia works, read WP:BOLD, revert, discuss cycle. If think the Audit Commission article needs amendment, to include something based on this material or to comment on the existing source you think misleading, make suggestions on the article talk page and try to reach a WP:Consensus with other editors. Abrosoft Fantamorph

Dear JohnCD

Firstly, Abrosoft Fantamorph has been selected as Gold medal morphing software by TopTenReviews for 6 consecutive years. You can read the review TopTenReviews 2012 from web page: http://morphing-software-review.toptenreviews.com/. So this software is not non-notable. Searching “fantamorph” by Google, you can get a lot of search results to support this conclusion. And so many users share their work made by FantaMorph on Facebook, you can see from web page: http://www.facebook.com/FantaMorph ), and YouTube.

Secondly, as mentioned in debate, you think this article is like advertising. I am willing to modify the content to meet the claim of Wikipedia.

I believe this software is excellent morphing software. Please give me some advice to improve this article.

Best Regards Jdp 420 (talk) 15:01, 7 June 2012 (UTC)

Being excellent software is not enough - to have an article requires WP:Notability which has to be demonstrated by showing "significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject." See also Wikipedia:Notability (software). JohnCD (talk) 21:42, 8 June 2012 (UTC)

Mary Alexandra Stiefvater page

Dear JohnCD I was directed to talk to you regarding the deletion of the page I created before trying again. When I looked at it last 2 pages (one in lowercase and one in uppercase/lowercase) had been created under that title and it appeared that the one "mary alexandra stiefvater" was scheduled for deletion and the other "Mary Alexandra Stiefvater" had been approved so I am unclear what I did wrong or how I can fix it so it is correct. I included everything it asked for, references, links to wiki articles, links to outside articles and a photo. What do I need to do to create the page so it doesn't get deleted? Thank you for your help, Thunderroad10 Thunderroad10 (talk) 22:29, 24 June 2012 (UTC)

Apologies for delay in responding - answer on your talk page tomorrow. JohnCD (talk) 22:25, 25 June 2012 (UTC)

JohnCD - I disagree with your decision to decline the CSD A10 on this page. I can see no other purpose of such a page than to support Anti-Jewish movements. There is no encyclopedic value gained and I can't think of another article that could be considered similar. The article creator's intent was antisemitic and I can't see any salvageable information. I think CSD A10 is appropriate. Would you consider it wheel warring if I were to delete it myself?--v/r - TP 20:03, 25 June 2012 (UTC)

(talk page stalker)Sorry to butt in, but there is a reasonably active discussion at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Religious affiliations of the Chairmen of the Federal Reserve of the United States‎; while I (obviously as nom) think it should be deleted, perhaps it would be better to wait for the outcome of the discussion? Some people are !voting keep. Writ Keeper 20:06, 25 June 2012 (UTC)
Thanks. I left my opinion there.--v/r - TP 20:11, 25 June 2012 (UTC)
TP, I won't revert you if you do, but I urge you not to. The page may well be deletable on notability grounds but, as Writ Keeper points out, there are several keep opinions at the AfD, so it is not an open-and-shut case. The page as it stands is purely factual, and it seems to me that to read it as intended to "disparage, threaten, intimidate or harass their subject or some other entity, and serve no other purpose" requires making assumptions about the intention of the page author, which is not a good basis for deletion decisions. We should consider the content, not the contributor. JohnCD (talk) 20:28, 25 June 2012 (UTC)
I would have to disagree with you, but it's no matter anymore. I've gone ahead and left a comment with the others at AFD. We'll just let the consensus-driven process sort it out.--v/r - TP 22:08, 25 June 2012 (UTC)

Neocleous introduction to Cyprus law

Dear John on 23 June 2012 16:03 you have deleted "Neocleous's Introduction to CYprus law" Page because an author of the book requested the deletion. Can i ask you how do you verify that the person requesting deletion is actually an author of the book? And since this is a free and open site is it possible to give me his/her name? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Dikmanis (talkcontribs) 06:17, 26 June 2012 (UTC)

What happened here is a little complicated to explain. "Author" in the deletion reason refers to the author of the article, not of the book. The article was "moved" to a new title to make changes in the capitalisation; that process left behind "redirects" and it was one of those that I deleted, responding to a request from the user who made the move, who was the "author" of the redirect it left behind.
That did not affect the article itself, which ended up at Neocleous's Introduction to Cyprus law. It was deleted on 25 June by user RHaworth (talk) as an advertisement. You can ask him about it, but as background: Wikipedia is extremely resistant to being used for any kind of advertising or promotion. The article read like a publisher's PR piece, with unsupported claims like "widely acclaimed... unique, authoritative, comprehensive... recognised as the "bible"... an essential tool ... unique comprehensive guide... " Also, it cited no references: Wikipedia's WP:Verifiability policy requires that "any material challenged or likely to be challenged must be attributed to a reliable, published source", and Wikipedia has an inclusion criterion called WP:Notability, which is not a matter of opinion but has to be demonstrated by showing "significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject." There are specific notability requirements at WP:Notability (books). JohnCD (talk) 21:06, 26 June 2012 (UTC)

I'm sorry to trouble you, but wondering if you can look at this RevDel request on my talk page please? According to this person the RevDel they've asked me to make is a nasty joke about them, I can see that the edit does appear to be a joke but to me I can't see how they think it's offensive enough to warrant RevDel which is why I've refused it. Even stranger is the fact that the IP posting on my talk page is the exact same IP that made the joke edit (albeit the posts are about a day apart)!

Can you please just take a look at the post and make sure I'm not either being completely dim or missing something?!--5 albert square (talk) 23:18, 26 June 2012 (UTC)

No, I can't see that you're missing anything, and I agree that without more indication of why this is serious RevDel would not be justified. The IP geolocates to Buenos Aires, I guess it's the office computer of the company's BA branch. "Nac & Pop" seems to be a fast-food chain there, I can't make anything of the other two references. If they are worried, tell them it is now buried in the history out of view of search engines, only someone who knows Wikipedia quite well will burrow into the history, and to anyone who does look at the history, the fact that first one name was put in and then another substituted shows that this just someone silly mucking about. I though of suggesting that you point them to OTRS via WP:FEFS, but reading that I see it says they won't remove revisions from history and refers people on to Oversight, which is even less likely to be appropriate. Morgan Katarn

Hi John, I just discovered that Morgan Katarn (talk · contribs) is a block-evasion sockpuppet. I have left details on his user talk if you are inclined to read them. I thought it might affect the standard offer you gave him, and also that we will now need to monitor him for future socks. Some guy (talk) 21:58, 25 June 2012 (UTC)

I've got there too - see Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Furko Nellis which I have raised to ask for checkuser, so that we have evidence to give to :de. Cheers, JohnCD (talk) 22:04, 25 June 2012 (UTC)
I notified the German admin who had blocked FN there, but there was no need - MK had already been blocked there after burning his boats with a violent attack on their admins (plus "Exactly the same applies to the English Admins!!!"). German is a good language to curse in: "Verdammt und verflucht sollt ihr sein!!!" etc. JohnCD (talk) 19:44, 26 June 2012 (UTC)
Thanks for doing that, I'm glad the problem got taken care of. I still can't tell if he was trolling the entire time, or some of his edits were well intentioned and he's just clueless. The mysteries of cyberspace... Some guy (talk) 06:53, 27 June 2012 (UTC)
I assume this is another sock - it's been blocked already though. Is it necessary to mark new socks as such if they are banned immediately? Some guy (talk) 01:48, 28 June 2012 (UTC)
I've tagged the user page, but I won't bother adding this one to the SPI at the moment. Probably he'll get bored soon, but if more start appearing it will be worth keeping the SPI up to date for the record. JohnCD (talk) 10:38, 28 June 2012 (UTC)

My wikipedia page got deleted

Hi John,

My wikipedia page has been deleted titled MIDAS_at_swarnabhoomi.

Can you please tell me the reason why the page has been deleted.

So that I can improve myself.

Warm regards, A.Sivagopi — Preceding unsigned comment added by 121.242.234.130 (talk) 04:31, 27 June 2012 (UTC)

The problems with this article were:
  • It was written in a highly promotional tone: "state of the art campus... extensive projects, expert lectures from eminent Architects... advanced amenities... Excellent Hostel facility... decorated with astonishing murals... " To Wikipedia, those are "peacock terms", "puffery", and that is an advertisement or prospectus, not an encyclopedia article. That is what you get when people write about their own company or institution, but Wikipedia is not to be used for advertising or promotion, and anything like that is deleted at once.
  • References were all local. To establish Wikipedia:Notability requires showing "significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject."
  • It was submitted by someone with an obvious WP:Conflict of interest.

Why was the page Teva Dexter deleted?

Could you please restore the Teva Dexter page. If you search Teva Dexter it will come up with videos of him surfing. He surfs for magazines. Please restore the article, as it will help spread his influence.

Pflork — Preceding unsigned comment added by Pflork (talkcontribs) 01:14, 2 July 2012 (UTC)

Wikipedia is not here to help spread people's influence, it is a serious encyclopedia. To have an article someone has to be notable, and articles contain sourced facts, not gossip like "famous for saying "yeah" after a question" or derogatory opinions like "thinks he is very funny, that is not correct, he is only funny". See Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Andi Ali and ponder the reasons for deletion given by the contributors to that discussion. JohnCD (talk) 13:48, 2 July 2012 (UTC)

Interlibertarians

I don't agree. The version deleted was less full but the original version is IDENTICAL to the current one: in fact, if you look closely, you will see the page is full of self-published sources (in Italian) which Fastily and I deleted before to see that the original 3rd party coverage was not enough to justify a page.

Pls, it has been quite complicated to explain to original contributors why Interlibertarians is not notable. Could you read carefully tha page and see that there is not notability? The conferences are meeting of less than 50\100 people.--Louisbeta (talk) 14:05, 2 July 2012 (UTC)

"Previously deleted" is not a speedy reason, except for G4 when the previous deletion was by AfD. In this case the September 2011 deletion was by PROD, and so restorable on demand; the version deleted by A7 in November was only a single sentence. I do not think this is speediable: it is promotional, but not enough for G11, and A7 requires only an assertion of importance, a lower bar that notability. Rather than edit out the puffery, I think this should go to AfD in its present form, and get a clear decision from the community. JohnCD (talk) 14:22, 2 July 2012 (UTC)

BLP help

Dear JohnCD,

I am sorry to report that I, once again, need your help regarding the BLP about me: "Jamie Comstock " which you will find at: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jamie_Comstock

I am writing to you because you on February 2, 2012 you responded to my Admin Help plea and were instrumental in taking action that improved the content of this BLP about me through a warning to editors and a request to uninvolved others to assist with the content.

My hope is that, based on continued editing by "Sanchopanchez," you will now reconsider my request to delete the article about me.

I actually wrote another {{admin help}} request in early June, but no one responded to that request. You will see that request on my talk page. I think I must have done it incorrectly. Here is the link to my talk page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:Academicjc

As you will be able to see from recent editing, "Sanchopanchez" continues to be keenly interested in the details of the content of this BLP about me. As must be obvious by now, he is not an "uninvolved" editor. Instead, he is the person who engaged in the editing wars with the Butler staff member. This is part of the history on my talk page.

And, based on recent editing, I seems that Sanchopanchez has tagged the BLP about me and will continue to monitor all changes and try to edit them according to his view.

To me, it feels as if his interest in this article boarders on stalking and harassment. In the least, Sanchopanchez seems to have a grudge against me and is using Wikipedia as a way to publically play out that grudge. Please do not allow this to continue.

Sanchopanchez's previous edits and additions to this BLP about me were part of the record you reviewed earlier. Recently, Sanchopanchez has edited out information that built-out the professional details of my career to include activities from the other Universities at which I have worked. He seems to want to keep the focus of my career history on Butler, which only accounts for 4 of my over 25 years in higher education.

As you may recall, Sanchopanchez has provided edits and additions that call attention to a student blogger event -- which was actually a relatively minor incident -- claiming that it brought "national attention" to the University. This 2009 issue may have been the subject of some student editorials, a couple of articles in the Huffington Post (where the student blogger's dad is a contributor) and one article in Inside Higher Education (because of an anonymous tip -- I know this because they contacted me for comment and I declined). I did not comment because as Provost, it was inappropriate for me to comment on an incident that dealt with personnel issue involving the student's step-mother and his father, both employees of Butler at the time.

When you read these articles you will see that I am not quoted in one of them. In fact, my name only appears in news articles about the student blog because I was one of the administrators who was criticized by the blogger. So, the mention of the blog incident may belong in an article about Butler University, but it doesn't belong as a highlighted detail in a BLP about me.

I am grateful to you and other editors for the editing that has been done on this BLP about me over the last few months. The article is more accurate and objective than it was before.

However, sadly, I am still in the position to have to monitor the article daily and respectfully ask that you delete it. Please do not let this "anonymous' editor continue to be in control of my public persona. Thank you very much for reconsidering my request.Academicjc (talk) 17:16, 2 July 2012 (UTC)

  • I am unfortunately extremely busy at this moment, but I will reply within 24 hours max. JohnCD (talk) 19:06, 2 July 2012 (UTC)
I have taken some action on this issue, see the page history of the page. Athleek123 01:23, 3 July 2012 (UTC)

Hi John, you just confirmed my speedy on this article, but the creators made it again. Can I get another delete and possibly a salt or a edit block on the writers. (unless Austin really is that hot!!!). thanks for the help. -- Michael Scott Cuthbert (talk) 09:01, 4 July 2012 (UTC)

Zapped again. Doesn't need a block or salting, yet - {{uw-create2}} for the author is about right. JohnCD (talk) 09:06, 4 July 2012 (UTC)
Thanks! best -- Michael Scott Cuthbert (talk) 09:07, 4 July 2012 (UTC)

Collapse (band) deleted page

Hello John,

This is regarding:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Requests_for_undeletion/Archive_46#Collapse_.28band.29_and_related_articles

For the band Collapse.

I am trying to have the page listed. The previous admin is no longer an admin. It said to contact you.

The band Collapse is listed on the Great White North Records page, but the page for the album is blank.

Others artists have their band pages up, some don't. There is alot more that is going on with the band now beyond what's listed on that page.

Please review the the request for the pages about Collapse.

The deletion was regarding third party verification. Please search in Google: Collapse, Forward Regression, Mechanisms of Oppression, Jason Mackenzie and there should be plenty of thrid party sites to verify the band.

Thanks. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Impaled666 (talkcontribs) 13:27, 4 July 2012 (UTC)

Nobody doubts that the band exists, the question is whether it meets Wikipedia's notability requirements explained at WP:BAND. It is up to you to produce references to reliable independent sources to show that it does. If you think you can, write a draft article in your user space - go to Help:Userspace draft and fill in the title there. That will create a draft page with a link to some useful advice. When it is ready, ask me: if I don't agree, you can go to WP:Deletion review. JohnCD (talk) 21:25, 4 July 2012 (UTC)

Thanks, I will create the page for your review.

XCritic article resubmission

Hi Sir,

I would like to know if this link is a good source. I would like to resubmit the article that was originally declined in February, but add this source to it.

Thanks. — Preceding unsigned comment added by GregorioGonuelas (talkcontribs) 14:38, 4 July 2012 (UTC)

It's something, but not much - it seems to be a blog. In my opinion it would not be enough, added to your deleted article, to overcome the reasons for deletion at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/XCritic (2nd nomination). See WP:42 for what is really required for notability. But I'm not sure why you asked me: the person you need to convince is user CharlieEchoTango (talk), the admin who has salted the title XCritic (protected it against creation) because it was re-created so often. Help Needed

Hello JohnCD,

I thought I would bring to your attention the fact that User:Kingsamali, who you banned, has made a new account User:MrsamaliOfficial. I know they are the same because they have the same name, "Sam Ali", and they both tried to create an article on themself. This time, however, User:MrsamaliOfficial has skipped the AFC process and put his article right onto Wikipedia, located here. I hope you can respond to this issue ASAP.

Thanks, Gold Standard 06:19, 6 July 2012 (UTC)

Other users that I am nearly 100% sure are socks are:

I can also report this to WP:RFCU if necessary. Gold Standard 06:24, 6 July 2012 (UTC)

Also, they say they will use other proxies if they get banned: "If you do so then we know what to do you cannot block us.We have lot of ip's and proxies. We are IT Specialists.OK" Gold Standard 06:50, 6 July 2012 (UTC)
Now they appear to be submitting: "Dear! I will not take further edits.i think i understand that what you said. Can you please help me reading about what is "sources".So, i'll create article again after its deletion.I'll put sources then.Thank you" Gold Standard 06:52, 6 July 2012 (UTC)
Thanks. I have blocked MrsamaliOfficial per WP:DUCK as a sock of Kingsamali and told him that any unblock request has to be made on that account. The place to report socks is WP:SPI: I haven't bothered to raise an entry there for this one, but I will if more socks appear. The last message suggests he may possibly be willing to learn the rules. I didn't ban Kingsamali, by the way, I blocked him - there's an important difference, see links from WP:Blocks and bans. JohnCD (talk) 09:17, 6 July 2012 (UTC)
Got it, thanks for taking care of this. Gold Standard 19:50, 6 July 2012 (UTC)
More socks appeared, so I started WP:Sockpuppet investigations/Kingsamali. JohnCD (talk) 10:45, 8 July 2012 (UTC)

The Ville

You deleted The Ville before anyone had any time to expand it in depth. I put it on a deletion review. Georgia guy (talk) 23:44, 8 July 2012 (UTC)

Done - as a contested proposed deletion, the article has been restored on request. I will notify user X201 (talk), who proposed it, in case s/he wishes to consider nominating it at WP:Articles for deletion, which would start a debate lasting seven days, to which you could contribute. For future reference:
  • The {{PROD}} template was on the article for a week, and clearly states "You may remove this message if you improve the article or otherwise object to deletion for any reason." You could simply have removed it.
  • Even after deletion, a PRODded article is automatically restored on request to any admin or at WP:REFUND.
  • It is courteous (not to say required by the DRV instructions) to ask the deleting admin before going to DRV.
JohnCD (talk) 07:26, 9 July 2012 (UTC)

Ekren again

He's on this morning editing with Twinkle and has made a bad AIV report and obviously doesn't care about the block. I think a 1 week block would be in order. Your thoughts? Electriccatfish2 (talk) 11:17, 9 July 2012 (UTC)

I agree, and so does JamesBWatson who got there first. A serious case of IDHT. JohnCD (talk) 13:10, 9 July 2012 (UTC)
Thanks. If he does it again, I'm taking him to WP: ANI and proposing an indefinite block on the basis of CIR. Thanks again, Electriccatfish2 (talk) 19:07, 9 July 2012 (UTC).
I don't think you'll need to do that, there will be several pairs of eyes watching when the week is up. JohnCD (talk) 21:28, 9 July 2012 (UTC)

Re: Sherlockhere query about conflict of interest - additional information supplied

Over a year ago I added something on a Wikipedia page which I knew first hand was verifiable. It has now been changed by the same editor who also updated nearly every section of the listed page. This same author is also directly involved in updating an association page, directly associated with the content being discussed - which I believe is more than a coincidence.

I understand you have to follow etiquette but if there is a direct conflict of interest what is the best way of reporting it? If Association members are interfering with free speech to stop criticism what can you do? I don't want to disclose the page to the public so how do I report this privately?

thanks — Preceding unsigned comment added by Sherlockhere (talkcontribs) 14:52, 10 July 2012 (UTC)

Help

Are you online - I need some help. See Russian Wikipedia and 82.200.52.69 (talk · contribs) Callanecc (talkcontribs) talkback (etc) template appreciated. 16:22, 10 July 2012 (UTC)

Thank you, thew. Is there a better way to get admin attention in a situation like this, short of going to ANI? Callanecc (talkcontribs) talkback (etc) template appreciated. 16:25, 10 July 2012 (UTC)
WP:AIV is the place to report vandalism after final warning, and many admins watch it. If he comes back with another IP, WP:RFPP is the place to ask for the page to be semi-protected for a time. JohnCD (talk) 16:28, 10 July 2012 (UTC)
Thank you for blocking 82.200.52.69 (talk · contribs). I'm really appriciate this. Too much vandalism and we have enough fights to deal with... МаксФрад (talk) 16:30, 10 July 2012 (UTC)
Yeah (AIV), but the problem with this one was that between the time they were reported at 13 mins past the hour and when I left you a message the IP user made a lot edits to be article. Normally I would just wait for an admin to check AIV so they don't get the attention but in the case it wasn't really something we could leave up. What I've experienced in the past and been told by other admins ANI is checked more regularly then AIV. I was mainly wondering if there was a continually updated list somewhere of online admins. Reason is I just went through my memory of admins I had seen before and if I hadn't it may have just sat there until an admin noticed (I've had reports that have sat there for 3-4 hours).
So my question - is there a quick way to get in contact with an online admin, or is ANI/memory of admins, best way to go for a quick response? Callanecc (talkcontribs) talkback (etc) template appreciated. 16:44, 10 July 2012 (UTC)
A good way to find an admin who is online is to go to Special:Logs, select "Deletion log" in the drop-down box, and click "Go". JohnCD (talk) 17:26, 10 July 2012 (UTC)
Ok thanks. Callanecc (talkcontribs) talkback (etc) template appreciated. 03:32, 11 July 2012 (UTC)

Enrique_Acevedo Notability Tag request to remove

Hello. Back in 19:35, 22 June 2012‎ you added the notability tag to Enrique_Acevedo. Other contributors and myself have since added more citations (Although i'm not addressing the citations tag) that in my opinion make it clear that the article meets and exceeds wikipedia's notability guidelines. He is a journalist with a rising career who is currently viewed every weekday night by over a million people nationwide. He recently sat with President Obama to talk about inmigration reform and his reelection campaign among other topics. I'm guessing that probably every other journalist that has sat down with a president in office has a wikipedia entry.

Thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Calfaro (talkcontribs) 18:34, 8 July 2012 (UTC)

OK, removed. The press-releases by his employers don't count, but the Obama one is probably good enough. JohnCD (talk) 22:49, 8 July 2012 (UTC)

I agree with both, thanks for pointing out. Calfaro (talk) 13:28, 11 July 2012 (UTC)

Re: Conflict of interest

As discussed I believe there is a deliberate attempt to stop free speech with these pages. They have all been edited by the same author and I will leave the url link for you to check and advise if you believe this would be considered COI. http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=The_One_%28TV_program%29&action=history http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Simon_Turnbull&action=history

If you believe the pages I've provided should be investigated I would appreciate your feedback. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Sherlockhere (talkcontribs) 17:17, 10 July 2012 (UTC)

What I see on a quick look at those articles is one editor who is evidently much interested and tends to expand them, but others have been involved and when one article was considerably cut back he did not edit-war about it. I do not see anything needing admin action. If you think the articles are biased, either edit them yourself or propose changes on the talk page. If you are seriously concerned, you could post at WP:COI/N which would bring other eyes. One word of caution: the anonymity of Wikipedia accounts is strongly protected, and any attempt to identify an account with a real person is considered WP:Outing and strictly prohibited - you should read that policy. "I think User X may have a COI" is OK, if backed with evidence, but "I think User X is Mr. Y" is not, and you need to be careful about even implying it. JohnCD (talk) 16:41, 11 July 2012 (UTC)

IMAWESA Deletion

Dear JohnCD

I would your assistance in trying to understand why the IMAWESA posting was deleted. You gave the following reasons:

I have deleted your submission. Wikipedia cannot hold copyright material, not even in sandboxes or AfC submission pages, not even temporarily. Please read Wikipedia:Copy-paste. Even if the copyright issue were resolved, material copied from elsewhere is likely to be written in a promotional tone unsuitable for an encyclopedia article, which requires a neutral point of view. See User:JohnCD/Not a noticeboard.

Article subjects need to have notability, which is not a matter of opinion but has to be demonstrated by references showing "significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject." There is good advice on how to write an acceptable article at WP:Your first article. Regards, JohnCD (talk) 20:47, 11 July 2012 (UTC)

I am not sure if I understand the motivation for the deletion - can you please help me on the following:

1. Copyright material - which part of the posting infringed on copyright material; 2. Neutrality - Why was the submission seen as not being neutral 3. Notability - IMAWESA is a non-profit research knowledge base program funded by IFAD and managed from within the Pretoria office of IWMI, a research group under the CGIAR. Its creation was announced on the IFAD page as referenced here - IFAD, 2009 Building a strong water network

Can someone please help me to resolve the issues addressed above.

Thanks Mindmapsza (talk) 04:52, 12 July 2012 (UTC)

Taking your questions in order:
1. Most of the article was copied from http://imawesa.info/about/, and some from http://www.ifad.org/newsletter/pf/15_full.htm. Please read Wikipedia:Copy-paste.
2. The whole tone of the article was promotional. It read like the organization's manifesto, telling the world about itself and its worthy aims - not surprisingly, since it is copied from the website which has just that purpose. But Wikipedia is different, a project to build an encyclopedia, not a free noticeboard for organizations to publicize themselves. Also, the focus of the article seemed unclear - nearly half of it was devoted to a lengthy definition of "Agricultural Water Management (AWM)".
3. WP:Notability in Wikipedia's sense is not a matter of saying so but of references showing "significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject." The test is, have people independent of the organization thought it important and significant to write substantial comment about it?
I will provide more advice on your talk page, but I will not have time until tomorrow or the next day. Meanwhile, these mat help:

Lux Harmonium

Hi there You deleted the article on Lux Harmonium, and I can see why. It was a work in progress and I have a number of third party reviews that I was going to add. Please can you recover it to a sandbox area so I can continue to work on it? Many thanks Martin Martinjonesdevon (talk) 21:56, 12 July 2012 (UTC)

Done to User:Martinjonesdevon/Lux Harmonium. There was an older version there, which I have moved to User:Martinjonesdevon/Lux Harmonium (old). If you don't need that one any more, put {{db-user}} at the top and it will be deleted. Before you put a lot of effort into this, make sure you can show he meets the notability standard of WP:MUSICBIO. JohnCD (talk) 22:31, 12 July 2012 (UTC)

Hi John, your instruction for this user to stop using twinkle hasn't worked [4] (note - this revert was correct). Callanecc (talkcontribs) talkback (etc) template appreciated. 08:42, 7 July 2012 (UTC)

Yes, thanks, I had noticed - that one is correct but he is still making mistakes, the first thing I saw this morning was a page wrongly tagged as an attack. Blocked for 24 hours to get his attention. JohnCD (talk) 09:19, 7 July 2012 (UTC)
You asked on JamesBWatson's talk what Twinkle is, so I'll explain. It's a javascript program that makes reverting vandalism faster, and it lets you rollback edits even if you do not have the rollback permission. It also lets you warn users, place talkback template, nominate articles for deletion, CSD tags, and much more. It's a great tool for experienced vandal-fighters, but is often misused by newbies. Electriccatfish2 (talk) 11:26, 8 July 2012 (UTC)
Thanks - I know what Twinkle is, though I haven't used it. My question was, is it possible to block someone's access to it, when it is being misused? JohnCD (talk) 12:25, 8 July 2012 (UTC)
I don't think so. One of the students at the CVUA was reported to AN/I for CIR issues. He had the same problems as Ekren and refused to stop using Twinkle. Unfortunately, you cannot revoke access to it, as it can only be turned off and on by that user using the "my preferences" button on the top of your screen. I commend you for the block. Maybe he'll realize that he's doing more harm than good with it and stop using it. Best, Electriccatfish2 (talk) 12:43, 8 July 2012 (UTC).
I've been thinking about this and finally got around (ie remembered) to ask a question on the Twinkle talk page. Probably won't come to anything, but I think it would be a handy function for admins to have. Regards, Callanecc (talkcontribs) talkback (etc) template appreciated. 08:22, 14 July 2012 (UTC)

Hi John CD.Recently my this account has been blocked because of the sock-puppets of kingsamali (talk · contribs).I request you to please delete the following accounts syedasimalizaidi (talk · contribs) and kingsamali (talk · contribs) i now agree all the terms. And i'll learn Wikipedia and then start my honest contribution. And also i promise to never doing these things.I don't want to hurt wikipedia using proxies. In fact doing so will not represent me.I'll contribute to Wikipedia as i'm a part of it.Its really a great job to do.And also i promise that i'll not vandalize Wikipedia.Thank YOU...! You say you'll wait for my reply and will never do these things, but less than 20 minutes later you created yet another sockpuppet at DiscoveringNewWorld (talk · contribs). We don't delete accounts, but they will stay blocked. If you want to edit, you need to make an unblock request on the account's talk page, as described in the block notice, and another admin will consider it. But it seems all you want to do is write about yourself: you can do that on your Myspace, Facebook, Wikia, blogspot pages, but that's not what Wikipedia is for. 21:48, 7 July 2012 (UTC)JohnCD (talk)

The guys were doing so are stopped now.And i'll make now an unblock appeal. You do not delete account then if i made apeal from user:syedasimalizaidi account. Then what will happen. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 182.178.255.195 (talkcontribs) 17:23, 8 July 2012‎

If you make an unblock request, another administrator will consider it. First, read the WP:Guide to appealing blocks. But you will not be able to write about yourself, and if that is what you want to do, you will probably not be unblocked. JohnCD (talk) 22:42, 8 July 2012 (UTC)

Hi John.Came here to ask you one thing.Writing an article on ourself is the violation here. But what is userpage.can't we write there what we want.If that is a userpage then user should have rights to write what he want.Well using multiple account is really worse.I would not do that again.I want to unblock one of my account to edit my userpage.I hope you have all the answer i need.Thank you — Preceding unsigned comment added by 182.178.235.39 (talk) 12:37, 12 July 2012 (UTC)

No. User pages are for the volunteers who are here to help build an encyclopedia to say something about themselves and their Wikipedia work, if they choose, to assist communication within the project. They are not for substantial content... unrelated to Wikipedia or for FAKEARTICLEs - copies of articles that have been deleted or would not be accepted as articles. Sorry, but you have to face it: Wikipedia is not for what you want to do. Instead of wasting all this effort trying to get yourself into Wikipedia, you would do better to spend your time making music; then, if you succeed so that you meet the standard of WP:MUSICBIO, someone without a conflict of interest will probably write about you. JohnCD (talk) 10:35, 13 July 2012 (UTC)

Ok i agree i'm one of his ssb members from his underground band.Well i consulted Mr.Sam Ali about it and he suggested us to write on our own website.Well thanks for your help and guiding me.One more thing i'd like to say that please remove this paragraph from your talk page.thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 182.178.211.184 (talk) 09:40, 14 July 2012 (UTC)

IMAWESA Deletion, again

Dear JohnCD

I have reworked the IMAWESA listing. Can you please review for me. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Mindmapsza/IMAWESA

Thank you so much.

Mindmapsza (talk) 09:35, 12 July 2012 (UTC)

I wrote the answers above before looking at this. At first glance, it looks much better. I will look at it in more detail tomorrow. I have removed the list starting "More specifically AWM includes... " which is still a copyright violation from http://imawesa.info/about/ and also (in my view) excessive detail. JohnCD (talk) 22:11, 12 July 2012 (UTC)

Thank you JohnCD, your help is appreciated and I await your final comments. Mindmapsza (talk) 05:14, 13 July 2012 (UTC)

Hi JohnCD. Do you think we can resubmit the IMAWESA post? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Mindmapsza/IMAWESA

Mindmapsza (talk) 10:13, 14 July 2012 (UTC)

Apologies for failing to deliver on my promise to comment yesterday. My only criticism is that, although it is well referenced, the references are "in-house", from parent or associated organizations. It would help with notability if you could find some substantial comment about IMAWESA that is not from IFAD or IMWI or associated organizations - see WP:42. But overall, I think it is pretty good. When you are ready, click the "submit" button at the top, which will send it to "Articles for creation" for another pair of eyes to look at it; it will either be accepted, or you will be given more feedback. Be prepared for a few days' wait - AfC is badly overloaded. Regards, JohnCD (talk) 11:46, 14 July 2012 (UTC)

Thank you JohnCD I have submitted it.

Chuck Fager

I'm concerned that there are only a couple of citations - probably needed a different tag, but couldn't figure out how to do it. Mostly wanted to get admin attention. Thanks. Georgenancy (talk) 16:50, 13 July 2012 (UTC)

I added [citation needed] tags, but I doubt anything will be done about them. This page has been sitting un-monitored for years.Georgenancy (talk) 17:03, 13 July 2012 (UTC)
If nothing happens, you could nominate it at WP:Articles for deletion, but you should have look first to see if you can find sources. In an ideal world, any deletion would be carefully discussed beforehand; speedy deletion is there to reduce the load at AfD, but is deliberately confined to the situations listed at WP:CSD#Criteria which are quite narrowly defined - e.g. WP:CSD#A7 does not require notability or sources, only a credible claim of importance. If you can't find a tag that fits at WP:CSD, it probably means that the page should not be speedied and you should consider PROD or AfD. Regards, JohnCD (talk) 11:55, 14 July 2012 (UTC)

Apostrophes

I would like to correct your previous statement. I am most definitely not in need of a lesson in the correct use of the apostrophe, nor is my spelling as dire as you seem to suggest. I was merely testing the vigilance of a supposed grammar school in correcting and safe-guarding their own page. As a concerned member of their local community, I feel it important to thoroughly test that they are careful in monitoring the activity on their own Wikipedia page. In correcting this, you may have set back this process considerably since they will not have the chance to prove how diligent they are at noticing foul-play and altering their systems appropriately to combat anything less than the utmost urgency in dealing with such matters. It is technological tough love.

So you were deliberately introducing errors. We call that vandalism. As an experiment, it was useless, because it is not up to the subjects of articles to check them for vandalism - new changes are watched by anti-vandalism patrollers, both human and automatic. I am flattered to be asked, but I do not think I have the experience necessary to be a Bureaucrat because the tricky part of the job is closing contentious RfAs, and I have taken no interest in RfA since my own - I doubt if I have more than two contributions there. If CHU gets unbundled, I would be happy to consider helping with that. JohnCD (talk) 10:14, 15 July 2012 (UTC)

Thank your for your reply

I read your reply to my question. But the issue remains that Mary-Russell Ferrell Colton is blocked within the Wickepedia system. Therefore my question is 1) Why is she blocked ? 2) How can I get the block removed ?

I was referred by the Wickpedia system to an administrator. Therefore I thought you might be able to answer these questions ? — Preceding unsigned comment added by LauraRenee360 (talkcontribs) 16:28, 15 July 2012 (UTC)

A kitten for you!

Thanks for your reponse to my question.

Laura R. Roach 16:30, 15 July 2012 (UTC)

Thank you for the kitten, but I cannot answer your question until I understand more clearly what your problem is - what it is that you want to do, which the system is preventing you from doing.
If by "Mary-Russell Ferrell Colton is blocked within the Wickepedia system" you mean that as a Wikipedia user she has been blocked from editing, what was the exact username? We have never had a user account for User:Mary-Russell Ferrell Colton or User:Mary-Russell Colton or User:Mary Colton.
If you mean that you tried to create an article about her but the system prevented you, what was the exact title of the article you tried to make? There has never been an article at Mary-Russell Ferrell Colton or Mary-Russell Colton or Mary Colton, and none of those titles is protected against creation.
Please explain exactly what it is you want to do, and what is stopping you: what happens, what messages do you get, when you try?
Regards, JohnCD (talk) 16:46, 15 July 2012 (UTC)

JohnCD the following is the message I get when I try and enter a page on Mary-Russell Ferrell Colton:

Unable to proceed

The page title or edit you have tried to create has been restricted to administrators at this time. It matches an entry on the local or global blacklists, which is usually used to prevent vandalism. (Remainder of message removed - I now understand the problem. JohnCD) — Preceding unsigned comment added by LauraRenee360 (talkcontribs) 13:25, 16 July 2012 (UTC)

Ah, thank you, now I understand the problem. Various types of title are blocked by an automatic filter, and that includes titles containing the string "colton". I don't know the reason, but there is an admin by that name; not infrequently admins become a target for harassment by vandals, and I guess that happened here. I will advise you on your talk page what to do. JohnCD (talk) 20:14, 16 July 2012 (UTC)

The Mini Band

You are probably getting tired of hearing from me.
I do not know, I just feel comfortable chatting with you.
There is a British children rock band named The Mini Band.
I've recently started looking at their videos on YouTube, and I felt excited about the band.
I wanted to start a page. However, I feel that FaceBook and YouTube are not good enough to be references to start a new article.
Yes, the band does exist, but I'm worried that the page's notability will be a problem.
(talk) 02:51, 16 July 2012 (UTC)DominiquesMusic

Thank you for your kind words. You are right to think about notability - too many users rush to write an article and only think about looking for sources when it gets deleted. For a band, it will be looked at closely, because there are thousands of YAMBs (= "Yet another Myspace band") out there, most of whom seem to be under the illusion that a Wikipedia article is the key to fame and success.
Start by reading WP:Notability (music) and the WP:General notability guideline. What you are looking for is comment about the band, like reviews, from independent sources. Facebook, Youtube and Myspace and places where anyone can write anything don't count as reliable sources. More advice (if I think of any) on your talk page in a day or so. UTRS

Hi. Saw one of your block messages and I wanted to clarify. The email feature is not necessary for UTRS. Thanks.--v/r - TP 15:37, 16 July 2012 (UTC)

That's useful to know. I blocked email because I thought there might be a torrent of angry rants (though that hasn't in fact happened), and then relented for fear of cutting him off from UTRS. Next time I won't worry. Thanks. JohnCD (talk) 20:17, 16 July 2012 (UTC)

I noticed you deleted the above page, apparently at the request of the user? I'm not sure what is done with other related pages, like User talk:My very best wishes, which is currently a redirect to the page you deleted, or any subpages of the editor, and I don't know the specific nature of the request made, but thought you might want to know. John Carter (talk) 15:39, 16 July 2012 (UTC)

I don't think there's a problem, or any need for further action. The user themself placed {{db-self}} tags on the user page and a sandbox, and redirected the talk page, probably knowing that we don't delete talk pages. In the talk page history, I see a Wikibreak notice and a Retired notice placed and then removed. Looks like they are taking some time off and may not have decided whether to come back. There is one other user sub-page, but it isn't doing any harm and may as well stay in case they come back. JohnCD (talk) 20:25, 16 July 2012 (UTC)
Makes sense. And the editor had recently marked himself retired several times, so there is some reason to think he might come back. Thanks for the reply, and the good work on checking up on things and doing things that mindless dweebs like me have never really gotten a firm grip on. ;) John Carter (talk) 20:38, 16 July 2012 (UTC)

SmartPower Inc. and Brian F. Keane page

Hi, I am unable to create a page for SmartPower Inc. and Brian F. Keane. The reasons noted are advertising and copyright infringement, neither of which apply to the page I am trying to create. Both pages are intended to simply explain what SmartPower is, a nonprofit renewable energy marketing firm and who Brian F. Keane is, the president of SmartPower. I work at SmartPower and was asked by the President of SmartPower to create these two pages. What can I do to get these pages up on Wikipedia?

Aed194 (talk) 15:45, 16 July 2012 (UTC)

The two articles posted this afternoon, presumably by colleagues of yours, certainly were copyright infringements and advertisements. They were copied from the company's website (no doubt the company could give permission, but that requires a formal release); and they were written in promotional PR-speak: "the nation’s leading non-profit marketing firm... deliver our messages in a compelling, breakthrough way... award-winning marketing campaigns... a leading voice on clean energy... extensive and cutting-edge background... passion for major policy issues... much sought-after... " etc. That is puffery, fine for your own website but not for an encyclopedia article. Wikipedia requires a neutral point of view, and anything like that gets deleted at sight.
Please explain to your boss that Wikipedia is not a "notice-board" site like Myspace or Facebook for people and companies to write about themselves and pin up their own promotional material. Editing with a conflict of interest is strongly discouraged. Even for worthy and non-profit organizations, Wikipedia is not here to tell the world about your noble cause.
We are not as good as we should be at explaining that in advance, and I have this conversation so frequently that I have written User:JohnCD/Not a noticeboard to give the background. More advice on your talk page in a day or so. JohnCD (talk) 21:19, 16 July 2012 (UTC)

Help please!

Hi John

Can I ask you to please look over this users contributions please, and also take a quick look at the rather long message I just left on their talk page? Their edits are confusing me, I'm not sure if they're carelessness or vandalism. They've randomly blanked a couple of pages, on The X Factor (UK)'s page, they keep adding a 'past judge' section to the infobox when the consensus is that this is not needed as it's clear enough already in the infobox which years which judges were present and on the Simon Cowell page they just randomly deleted his image! I'd rather just get someone that's not familiar with the pages to give a second opinion and review what I've put on the talk page to make sure I'm not being too harsh on the editor? I did consider just blocking but I've decided instead to give them one final chance.--5 albert square (talk) 00:54, 14 July 2012 (UTC)

I think you got it about right. My first impression was that you were too lenient - those edits are certainly unconstructive, and there has been an earlier block; but higher up the talk page I see apologies when edits thought to be vandalism were actually correct, so this is not a simple vandal. Lack of any response to messages is worrying, but your extended message is a good way to try to start a dialogue. If that fails and there is any further trouble, an attention-getting block may be necessary. JohnCD (talk) 11:21, 14 July 2012 (UTC)
Thanks, he's now blocked for a week haha, I logged in tonight to find no emails from him, no messages on either talk page and he's done the same thing to Katie Price now as he did to Simon Cowell only days ago. However he then made what looks to be a constructive edit to Jessie J's article! I've blocked him for a week and told him to use the enforced time out to read up on our policies, hopefully he will return a reformed editor!--5 albert square (talk) 23:47, 18 July 2012 (UTC)

Lady Gaga singles

What is the correct thing to use as the pages I have added this to incorrectly, I want nominated for speedy deletion as they have no importance or significance at all. Thanks jwad.... blah | blah | blah 21:05, 17 July 2012 (UTC)

Read WP:Deletion policy. The speedy deletion criteria are deliberately tightly drawn - A9 applies only where the artist has no article. For Lady Gaga songs, you would have to use WP:Proposed deletion - likely a waste of time as anyone can simply remove the template and a fan probably would - or WP:Articles for deletion. But your opinion that they have no importance is not likely to be accepted as a reason for deletion: you would have to advance some reason based on policy, e.g. that they did not meet the notability standard at WP:NSONGS. Try one at AfD if you like, but I think you would be on a loser: the two where I declined your speedies seemed to have plenty of references. JohnCD (talk) 21:15, 17 July 2012 (UTC)

Extrawelt

Hey JohnCD,

I was writing to find out why you issued a G8 speedy deletion to the page Extrawelt. I am a fan of some of their work and I wanted to ask you (before I decided to make a new page) for your thoughts in deleting it.

I see you have been editing for a long time (from your profile page) so I'm sure you have experience in this type of thing. Please reply asap.

LevyT (talk) 19:06, 19 July 2012 (UTC)

There is a tangled history to this. We have never actually had any information about Extrawelt - it has always been a redirect to something else. It was set up in Jan 2009 as a redirect to Midi Miliz. In April 2011 that article was merged with X-Dream, so Midi Miliz became a redirect to X-Dream and to avoid a double redirect Extrawelt also pointed to X-Dream. In June 2011 an anonymous IP changed it to point to Spirallianz. Then in November 2011 Spirallianz was proposed for deletion (see WP:PROD), and after seven days nobody had contested that, so I deleted it and, as a tidying-up operation, also deleted Extrawelt.
Since Spirallianz was deleted by PROD, you can have it undeleted just by asking, though in fact, there was very little there: it said:

"Spirallianz is a German music project by Arne Schaffhausen and Wayan Raabe. It falls into the genre of psychedelic trance. A side-project of Spirallianz is Midi Miliz and Extrawelt" and listed two records, Blast Food and Stereopark.

If restored, that would need work if it was to be kept. The concern cited in the PROD was "serves promotional ends only", but a more serious concern is lack of any references to indicate notability.
Suggestion: there is nothing to stop you making an article about Extrawelt, but I see that on German Wikipedia, Extrawelt, Midi Miliz and Spirallianz are all redirects to de:Arne Schaffhausen & Wayan Raabe, and since these performers have such a confusing number of "projects" (the German article lists eight) that seems to me a better way to cover them. Consider writing an article about them, which could cover all their projects and would have more substance to it. If you are new to this, read WP:Your first article, WP:Notability and WP:Notability (music) before you start.
Regards, JohnCD (talk) 20:58, 19 July 2012 (UTC)
Ah okay. I didn't see that there was a German article about the duo. It just seems that when you google search the term "Extrawelt" that their myspace page appears along with some other secondary sites, but not really anything that provides solid information. Since I see this new page, maybe I should consult with some bilingual editors about making an English page.
Thanks for letting me know, I wasn't sure what the deletion was about but now I'm informed.

Hello I have a question

I have a Page Adelita E. De Mestas I just posted that was taken down? I was in the process of editing of it when you took it down. I would like to know why since it met the requirement of the article you referred to?? This is a actor for the Resident Evil International Series For all Resident Evil Games both national and International distribution for Capcom... Please let me know what it was missing and how is this not informative?? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Giest56 (talkcontribs) 10:35, 22 July 2012 (UTC)

Just being an actor is not enough for a Wikipedia article. The reference you gave showed her as one in a list of over seventy names credited for that production. See WP:Notability and WP:Notability (people), particularly the section WP:ENTERTAINER. JohnCD (talk) 11:14, 22 July 2012 (UTC)

Please undelete my article, it is about evolution

"Teeth must be brushed/flossed and BMI/Vital Signs must be monitored on a daily basis by a registered physician during the whole entire process (all steps) to ensure that proper health is maintained." This was part of my article, so no matter what, the article is safe.

I already had to change the article, to make it seem like only some people can accomplish 'real breatharianism', and I disagree with that kind of Hitlerism, because everyone can do it, but what else would you like me to change in the article, in order to get rid of more truth? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.69.38.2 (talk) 19:55, 22 July 2012 (UTC)

Godwin's Law strikes again! It is not a case of rewriting your article - it is simply not material for an encyclopedia. What it adds to the existing article is (a) a how-to guide describing the steps needed to become a "breatharian", and (b) two irrelevant quotations.
I told you of Wikipedia's WP:Verifiability policy. That policy includes the section WP:REDFLAG:

"Any exceptional claim requires multiple high-quality sources. Red flags that should prompt extra caution include: surprising or apparently important claims not covered by multiple mainstream sources."

The key statement of your article:

"the body evolves to produce it's own nutrition from fresh air/moisture, heat/sunlight"

certainly comes in that red flag category, but it is not supported by any of the references you cite. Tesla is talking about the possibility of alien creatures that might obtain their energy without food, not of human beings achieving that state. In fact, after the passage you quote he says "We are the result of ages of continuous adaptation, and we cannot radically change without unforeseen and, in all probability, disastrous consequences. So uncertain an experiment should not be tried."

Creating a different version of a page you deleted a while ago...

Hi JohnCD!

I am currently working on an article on Richard Hart, and I've just realised that what I'm actually doing is creating a new version of Richard Hart (Caribbean activist) - a page that you deleted a couple of years ago for copyright violation. The link to the deleted page says that I should contact you before creating the page, so - this is me doing that basically! It would be great if you could let me know if you're happy for me to create the page. It definitely won't be a copyright violation, but I don't know if there were any other issues with the previous article ...

All best,

Loriski (talk) 01:25, 23 July 2012 (UTC)

No problem at all, he's clearly notable, copyvio was the only problem. Looks as though you have plenty of sources: in case it can add anything, the source of the copyvio was here. JohnCD (talk) 10:36, 23 July 2012 (UTC)
That's great - thank you! And thank you so much for this additional source - looks like it will be really useful :) Loriski (talk) 10:42, 23 July 2012 (UTC)
Hello again! Sorry - one more question (bit of a newby so still lots to learn). Should I now redirect the old article to the new article, or link them in some other way? Thank you! Loriski (talk) 11:36, 23 July 2012 (UTC)
If the old article had been short-lived, I would say no, because anyone typing the name in the search box would find the new title. But in fact the old article was there for over three years before anyone noticed the copyvio, so there may well be external links to it; also there are five internal wikilinks to it. (Note that you don't need to do anything about those: see WP:REDIRECT#NOTBROKEN).
Now that I look at those, I see we have several Richard Harts, so Richard Hart is a disambiguation page, and you will need to find some "disambiguator" for your article title. It would be simplest to choose "Caribbean activist", but if you think something else would be more appropriate, then redirect the old title to your new one. JohnCD (talk) 12:04, 23 July 2012 (UTC)
Brilliant! Thank you so much for your help - have sorted it :) Loriski (talk) 12:16, 23 July 2012 (UTC)

Hello John, Thank you for your message. This is my first Wikipedia page and I intended to try out the new Abcodia page in my sandbox, and have made a mistake in publishing it when I haven't been able to add all the text. I think I need to read up about it more first; thank you for your reference links! Yes, I have done my edits, but this is much more challenging. Curiuos edit

I think the editor may have been just testing a new page. I will look into his history and see if he had similar? It may have scared the heck out of him so he changed it quickly.--Canoe1967 (talk) 22:11, 23 July 2012 (UTC)

That IP has only ever made those two edits. Just one of life's mysteries. JohnCD (talk) 23:34, 23 July 2012 (UTC)
Resolved

John I have sourced all the information for this actor

Adelita E. De Mestas should not have a speedy delete as the Actor is portrayed in Resident Evil Raccoon City in a national and Global distribution for the Japanese media franchise Capcom. [1] It is a franchise has been expanded to comic books, novels and novelizations, sound dramas, live-action and computer-generated feature films, and a variety of collectibles and action figures. [2] She is a Principle Actor for Raccoon City for X-box and Ps3 Games. She is an onscreen credited Actor and is THE FACE of Carolyn Floyd AKA Willow as well as any other future films and videos for the character.

She is not on a list of over 70 Actors, actually she is one of 6 principle actors on the computer generated film and game as part of the elite squad "Echo Six"[3] Raccoon City. There are a total of 8 non principle actors. These Actors are the face of the characters for future films and videos for each character. All other actors are voice actors NOT visual Actor/portrayers. Principle roles in generated films and games like in the movie AVATAR are computer generated yet are still emoting and the facial expressions and delivery are scanned.[4] This must be differentiated.

Further I have now sourced not only the credit list, but indicated this actor is significant as a principle actor on a cast list of 6 for Global Distribution for Capcom comic books, novels, novelizations, sound dramas, live-action, computer-generated feature films, and a variety of collectibles. In addition I have sourced how computer generated games and films are made like in the film AVATAR. If the actors in AVATAR are credited there is no reason why Wikipedia cannot approve a page for other Main Principle actors for other computer generated films and games that have Global distribution.

Below is the website sourced for you and the clip for the Visual Actors not voice Actors for your perusal. I sourced it before I am sourcing the credit again. Included in this list are non principle actors. This should clear up any concerns over the number of Visual Actors used for the face of the franchise for Raccoon City Echo Six. [5]

I see you have made a userspace draft. Good, that's the right thing to do: when it's ready, click the "Submit the page" link at the top and it will go to WP:Articles for creation, where either it will be accepted or you will be given feedback. What you have to show is explained at WP:ENTERTAINER, and there's good advice at WP:Your first article. JohnCD (talk) 10:47, 24 July 2012 (UTC)

Re: Deleted page

Hi, I was just browsing through UBC Faculty of Medicine and noticed that it had been deleted last year.

09:11, March 14, 2011 JohnCD (talk | contribs) deleted page UBC Faculty of Medicine (Expired PROD, concern was: Not notable - per WP:OUTCOMES#Education "Departments or degree programs within a university, college, or school are generally not considered notable unless they have made significant contributions to their fiel)

However, as per WP:OUTCOMES#Education: "Separate articles on law schools and medical schools are being kept." Therefore I am rebuilding this page.

As this was a PROD deletion, the article would have been restored on request. I have now restored it so that the previous article is visible in the history behind yours. I will advise user Sitush (talk), who proposed it, and who may choose to nominate it at WP:Articles for deletion. WP:OUTCOMES is only a summary of what has happened at past deletion discussions: the real test is whether you can establish WP:Notability independent of the University by references showing "significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject." There is good advice at Wikipedia:College and university article guidelines - see the section Faculties and academic colleges. JohnCD (talk) 10:10, 24 July 2012 (UTC)
