Ok, sorry about that. Would Sept 6 be a better date? ffm 13:09, 3 August 2008 (UTC)

Continuing to edit

re: continue to edit. nice of you to say so John but dialogue with wikipedia editors is almost impossible at best. I think their point of view would be different if someone were to mistakenly call them out as spammer and then associating unrelated spammer sites with that person.

It's the "so what if I made mistake, as long as I don't admit it, I get to keep my medals..". That's ruthless but closer to truth than not.

We never have and never will tolerate editors who inflict damage (aka moderators) on Usenet. I never tolerated people like that on the multiple bulletin boards/bloggers either.

I can't get response from them and basically I asked them to delete/rename that user name account rather than basically slander me (by mistake). That's basically uncivil.

Like I said in my post I started and have been responsible for history of kiosks (electronic) since inception. I'll maintain it out on private sites and stay away fro Wiki (as soon as they delete/rename).

I would suggest if you are going to be an editor then you have a responsibility to respond to legitimate users within 60 days. Failure to do so without stated cause should result in removal of one of their medals on their About Me page on Wiki. That's still pretty weird to me but then I'm over 50 and from the old days. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Ckeefner (talkcontribs) 18:37, 9 August 2008 (UTC)

BCC Research

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Stuartfost/BCC_Research2 I took your advice to heart and greatly improved WP: RS. Thought you might want to take a look. Thanks (From Village Pump-Assistance Stuartfost (talk) 19:01, 11 August 2008 (UTC)

BCC Research Categories

Hi John, I was hoping that a list of categories provided would be ok? I'm pretty sure I could find a few independent sources that just list the categories provided. Would this be alright? If so I'll add them to my talk page. Stuartfost (talk) 13:44, 12 August 2008 (UTC)

Expand?

Hi John, I was wondering how I might use the expand tag on BCC Research? Or if this is a bad idea? Thanks Stuartfost (talk) 00:03, 13 August 2008 (UTC)

PayMate article

Hi John, Thanks for looking over the PayMate article on my subpage. You mentioned that the main reason you did not consider PayMate to be a notable company was because the article you look at only mentioned PayMate. Most of the article linked on that page focus on PayMate (and I can provide more links to articles focusing on PayMate and its products). It was just a stroke of bad luck that the link you looked at was one of the few (or perhaps the only one) that didn't focus on PayMate. Would it be possible for you to look over the links again? If not, what should my next step be? Thanks again, Spontaneousgifting (talk) 00:23, 13 August 2008 (UTC)

John, thanks so much for helping with the article. I've made the changes you mentioned and I think it is ready to be posted now. Let me know if there is anything else that I need to do before it is ready. Spontaneousgifting (talk) 19:35, 13 August 2008 (UTC)

Cleanup

I understand you are copyediting Tim Pawlenty but please be courteous to save some of the sources (if warranted) in the talk page or /drafts/. As a low-key Governor, it is very difficult to find any source for anything other than the basics and many Minnesota editors spent hours editing this thing. .:davumaya:. 03:02, 29 August 2008 (UTC)

Language disambiguation

I have a proposal for wikipedia developers.--Dejudicibus (talk) 09:53, 1 September 2008 (UTC)

Well, the idea of a central hub is very interesting. I wrote my proposal just to easily solve a specific problem, but it looks like we could use the same approach to really simplify the connections between all wikipedias. You are right: non easy to do. We should convince a lot of wikipedians, but changes are never easy to implement. So I volunteer to involve Italian wikipedians if someone helps me (my English is not so good as I would like) to convince English ones. We could start to implement it and see if it works. Maybe the others will follow. It wold be nice to avoid to update a lot of pages each time a new article in a certain language is added.--Dejudicibus (talk) 20:46, 4 September 2008 (UTC)

I'm addressing you here because it's so hard to deal with this article on the talk page just now, and I don't know if anyone except the two of us cares about this point. By this edit you added dates to the Public Safety Commissioner discussion, which is fine. You also put it in chrono order. I had earlier deliberately put it not in chrono order because I thought it was clearer to have all the Monegan-related stuff together. If we talk about Monegan's departure, then Kopp's, then the investigation, some careless readers may think the investigation covers both.

That's why I put the Kopp stuff at the end. (Of course, the main thing is to include somewhere, given that people were trying to eliminate it entirely.) Do you think this is a good reason to depart from chrono order? JamesMLane t c 20:44, 3 September 2008 (UTC)

Off-topic addendum: I borrowed your coding to enable the visitor to create a new section automatically. I find it annoying that the "Post a comment" link doesn't appear on every talk page anymore and I'm glad to have a substitute. Thanks! JamesMLane t c 20:48, 3 September 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for your response. I believe strongly that the material should stay. It's certainly less important than what she's being investigated for. Consider this, however: If Monegan had left of his own volition, and Palin's appointed replacement for him had quit two weeks later in a sex scandal, wouldn't that merit a couple sentences in the summary of Palin's administration? Two-week tenures of cabinet members aren't exactly common. The Kopp incident, evaluated on its own (not in comparison to Monegan), merits inclusion.
It could conceivably be put somewhere else in the article, because, as you state, the big "dismissal" issue now is Monegan. There's no other obvious home for it, though. Furthermore, I'm sure that some people who aren't spending inordinate amounts of time editing Wikipedia don't have the distinction clear in their minds; having both PSC departures in one section helps the reader keep track of things. Hiya, thanks for the comment re. Palin's Mayoralty. You wrote, "what Palin has done as governor has been covered in so many separate newspaper." You meant "mayor" instead of "governor", right?Ferrylodge (talk) 20:36, 11 September 2008 (UTC)

Horrible stuff on Ganguli's page again. This is so wrong. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 92.235.185.127 (talk) 18:16, 12 September 2008 (UTC)

I'm not sure why this vandalism isn't being caught by other editors. Please let me know again if it continues; I've posted a final warning on the editor's user talk page, and have no doubt that he/she will be blocked again if he/she does it - if that vandalism is reported. I will report it if I notice it (or if someone mentions it on this page). But I encourage you to report it yourself if you see it - at WP:AIV. And you can also edit the article to remove the vandalism - see Help:Revert. (If you do remove the vandalism, please still let me know, or report it at WP:AIV.) -- John Broughton (♫♫) 20:55, 12 September 2008 (UTC)

your reordering of controversies at Rick Davis (politics)

Why? I don't understand. They're out of chronological order now, and that seems rather a strange thing to have. Please reply at Talk:Rick Davis (politics). Best, RayAYang (talk) 03:38, 26 September 2008 (UTC)

Pablo Ganguli And his Deportation From Morocco in 2006

You continue to remove new material from the Pablo Ganguli profile refering to the FACT that he was deported from Morocco in 2006. Will you allow me to cite the relevant deportation file details which is a matter of public record in Morocco. You allow Ganguli to shamelessly promote himself on your site, howeve anyone seeking information on him who consults this site will be unaware that he was deported from Morocco by the police along with his ex lover Simon Scadden. Surely it mis a matter of interest to anyone using your cite to get a profile of this person to know that he was deported from the country he pretends to have been an arts guru in. The majority of the citations on his selfagrandizing entry are puff pieces written by himself or hack pals of his. Surely Wikipedia stands for truth and not sham self-publicity. Bot proposal - comments needed

I'm messaging you since you participated in a Village Pump discussion a while back on the subject. I've since put in a proposal for a bot to revert the addition of redlinks to a subset of list articles and/or list sections. The selection of such articles and the policy of operation of the bot is under discussion there. Your input would be welcome. Pseudomonas(talk) 16:49, 17 October 2008 (UTC)

Ganguli (December 8 posting

It utterly shocking that you allow the fact of Ganguli's deportation to be removed from his 'puff' profile. You may contact the Moroccan police to have this fact checked. Ganguli is using Wikipedia to conceal this fact from people he raises funds with for his peojects. Are you going to allow this to continue? I shall post a separate internet site to prove the facts and show Wikipedia to be concealing the truth. Shame on you. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 213.94.253.205 (talk) 17:52, 8 December 2008 (UTC)

The only thing that might be "utterly shocking" is that you don't understand our policy on biographies of living people, or our guideline on reliable sources, or that an editor personally getting information is a violation of our policy forbidding original research. Please stop adding material to a Wikipedia article when you can't provide an acceptable source. All that's going to happen is that me - and other editors - will continue to remove it. That's a waste of your time and our time. And yes, please go elsewhere and post whatever information or statements that you want. -- John Broughton (♫♫) 01:52, 10 December 2008 (UTC)

Your activity on MWB

John, why did you only make this one edit on the MyWikiBiz site, but didn't even create a page for your noteworthy book, including links to your online storefront(s)? -- 76.98.14.41 (talk) 04:08, 15 November 2008 (UTC)

The edit you mention was in May 2007, well before the contract for my book was even signed, let alone the book being published in January 2008. I'm guessing that my edit was done simply as a sort of test; it's difficult to remember one's motivation for minor things, such as this edit, after a year and a half.
Wikipedia does have, at the moment, an article about my book; I, on the other hand, clearly don't rise to the level of notability required at Wikipedia for a biography. I'll have to play around with the idea of doing a biography at mywikibiz; that might be amusing, but at the moment, it's not a priority. -- John Broughton (♫♫) 21:22, 15 November 2008 (UTC)

EIW

John, I noticed that there were a bunch of non-standard prefixes pointing at the EIW [2]. Since they are non-standard, the redirects are showing up as articles instead of in the WP space. I have been RFDing a good number of such pages, but wanted to check to make sure these shortcuts like EIW:Access are not tied to any instructions in your books on Wikipedia.
