I repeat, the article is one hundred percent written by myself using the reference on the page as my source. The only part copied is in quotations i.e. "proud local name". The only thing that is same as the http://www.worldstadia.com/ws/show-page.php?menuCommand=stadium&menuData=1869&menuSubData=edit is "Kenwyn Rugby Ground" which is hardly copywrite. Furthermore your source, the information on the worldstadia.com, is out of date.

Hi, you've done some great edits and article creations. I do agree with you that the Kenwyn Rugby Ground article was written by yourself, but as was mentioned you do usually have to let another editor take down the cleanup template so it doesn't appear that anyone is initiating edit warring.

I have seen that you have removed the contradiction template off The Loe article. This is a template spans two articles that contain the contradiction, in this case River Cober as well. It appears that you have now removed the majority of the contradiction from The Loe (I don't have access to your source), but you might just want to reword the River Cober article to clarify this, cite your reference with it and make sure to remove the cleanup template there. The writer and/or users of the CorenSearchBot need to take a look at its use, as in my case it was wrong; completely wrong. At the very least the user should compare the two articles before putting such an enormous box on a small and minor article. It was insulting and heavy handed and I am still annoyed at having my evening spoiled. Sledge hammer to crack a nut comes to mind. Hardly very welcoming to a newbie but you live and learn. Thank you for your patience and encouragement.

WikiProject Cornwall Importance Assessments

Following on from Talk:Launceston, Cornwall... the importance ratings have got to do with the priority assessment guideline of WP:Cornwall. It states that for:

  • High-importance the articles must be recognised "in the Westcountry or all of Cornwall", which I suppose Penzance does because of the heliport the Isles of Scilly and in-part due to the production Pirates of Penzance.
  • Top-importance articles have to be "Places, icons or topics recognisable or of interest to the whole UK or further", which St Ives is now because of the artist community and the Tate Art Gallery and Newquay because of the international surf competitions (which does make national news) as well as (unfortunately) the clubbing/booze scene.
  • Mid-importance articles only have recognition "in the most of Cornwall", which, on asking my English girlfriend, does sum up Launceston today. As for Bodmin, it that maybe a more borderline case.

So that's the reason for the importance ratings; it's more to do with how widely recognised (by general users) the subject is today, rather than any historical importance the subject may have had. I've been wondering how adequate these guidelines are for a little while now - on one hand this system has been simple to use and applied for quite a while now, but on the other it is quite subjective and also does not allow any room for educational/historical significance of the subject to Cornwall. If you think these guidelines need improving/updating, you can raise the issue at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Cornwall with any suggestions and see what other editors think. For dates between 1801 and 1923 it's {{flagcountry|UKGBI|civil}} (or government) which produces  United Kingdom. After 1923, when Ireland succeded from the UK, use {{flag|United Kingdom|civil}} (or government) which produces  United Kingdom. Click on the links to see the difference. For Royal Navy ships, it doesn't matter which variant of {{Navy}}is used, as they all link to the same article. Mjroots (talk) 05:11, 6 September 2011 (UTC)

That's where giving a ref a name comes in. For the first use you would use (e.g.)<ref name=Larn>(cite book template)</ref> and for subsequent uses you simply use <ref name=Larn/>. WP:CITE explains a bit more about multiple refs from one source. Mjroots (talk) 18:44, 11 September 2011 (UTC)

1925 in birding and ornithology

Wouldn't it be better to start with decade articles e.g. 1920s in birding and ornithology and expand if they become too big? 100+ articles with minimal conent is less useful to the reader I feel. --Pontificalibus (talk) 15:28, 12 September 2011 (UTC)

I was just following the pattern of other pages in the series as I came across material whilst entering bird records into the Cornwall/Isles of Scilly database. Trouble is the 80s, 90s and 2000s are all redirected to Bird species new to science described in the 2000s. Perhaps other people will start to contribute once the pages are formatted.

Articles on individual years in birding and ornithology

Hi there; I think it's very possibly more appropriate to split the birding and ornithology stuff into decades, rather than individual years, unless one particular year was out-of-ordinarliy noteworthy for a huge number of major achievements, spottings, etc. Perhaps you could merge the little individual year's articles into "The twenties", The thirties", "The Forties", etc. and fill in with the stuff you already have here? It would definitely make for much more acceptable encyclopaedic articles, that way - and easier for enthusiats to read through without having to click links to a load of different article :o) Pesky (talk …stalk!) 09:40, 17 September 2011 (UTC)

I was present on the IRC channel #wikipedia-en when this subject came up, and I would also like to encourage you to merge the individual years into decades, especially given the relative paucity of content in the individual years and an abundance of To Be Filled sections, which likely won't get any attention, things being what they are. If someone else would like to create a format for each proposed decade I will be happy to add to them. I just don't see the point of creating the following page if people just want to delete any individual year page that is subsequently created. Very frustrating.

I really think that doing a decade at a time could result in some very good articles. You could save all the info you've got so far, on the individual pages, into your own user space (click User:Jowaninpensans/SandboxBirds to create a page specially for working on it), and then just start merging the information in, in chronological order, for each decade's worth of history. Have a go at it, then give me a ping on my talk page, and when I have a bit of time free from Real Life I'll potter over and take a look, and try to help out with some suggestions. Suggestion - ask for a "move" (effectivel;y a rename) on the other page, to change it from years to decades. Then we can link in the articles as they appear. That would be great. It was never my intention to get involved with bird articles, it was just items I came across as I was entering records into the Cornish wildlife database. On wikipedia I tend to concentrate on the Cornwall/Scilly SSSI articles and shipwrecks (and rugby) which are of higher importance to me. Thanks for being so positive. I find too many editors are quite destructive and I can see why people lose enthusiasm for wikipedia.

The data is all there now for a blanket article covering notable events from 1900-1995 (articles before and after that are full enough to stand on their own, I think). I've dropped a note on Oxguy3's talk page for him to get the correct accreditation on the page history for his own bits. All the bits which are all your own work, you can just edit, cut, re-paste back in, and the accreditation will go to you on the page history. Then I can get someone to move it back into mainspace as a brand-new article, with plenty in it. As and when individual years start filling up with enough stuff, then bits can be split out, but in the meantime it will be much better as a blanket article. With any luck, we'll be able to get it live again and looking great within the next couple of days, with all the credits going to the right people. Cliff castles

Hello, The main article for these is under Promontory fort. Maps and pictures can be copied into other articles if they are like this and begin with 'File' or 'Image'. Making a new version of a map is a different problem would need to be done in Wikimedia Commons.

I think there are cliff castles at The Rumps and at Willapark, Tintagel. The Penwith ones will be mentioned in Charles Thomas's The principal antiquities of the Land's End district (with Peter Pool): 1954 ; also: 2nd Edition 1956; 3rd Edition 1957; 4th Ed. 1959 , 5th Ed. 1960; 6th Ed. 1961; 7th Ed. 1962, 8th Ed. 1963, 9th Ed. 1964; 10th ed. 1965, 11th Ed. 1966; 12th Ed 1967; 13th Ed. Revised 1968; 14th Ed. 1969; 15th Ed. Revised, 1970; 16th Ed. 1980; and there are nine references to cliff forts in H. O'N. Hencken's The Archaeology of Cornwall and Scilly. List of shipwrecks in Cornwall

I was going to suggest that you start this list, only to discover that you already had done so! I've been through and made some edits in accordance with WP:MOSSHIP. Only casualties should be bolded, with other ships in italics.

Do you have a library card? If so, you should be able to access the Gale Newsvault - a wealth of info to be discovered there!

I notice you've mostly used book sources for the list. Nothing wrong with that, but the internet can also be of use. WP:SHIPS/R has plenty of useful links. Any questions, give me a shout. Mjroots (talk) 12:29, 7 October 2011 (UTC)

Redirects bolding

Hi there. We're making good progress with List of Sites of Special Scientific Interest in Cornwall, well done! I've just noticed that you've generally been putting the SSSI names in bold within the article (e.g. with these edits). We usually only bold the term if it is the title of the article, or if it is the target of a redirect, as per WP:RDR#PLA. So in the case of St Stephen-in-Brannel, I've un-bolded "South Terras Mine", as you were using a piped link within the list to get to the article, but I've left "Tregargus Quarries" bold and created a Tregargus Quarries redirect page (basically as there was also a Tregargus article, now also a redirect, and one these may turn into an article in their own right one day with the other linking to it). I did the same with Tater-du, but you were correct to bold Stourscombe Quarry.

I know sometimes if a single SSSI title has multiple parts, such as "Coverack Cove and Dolor Point", and it's not the targe of a redirect, I tend to put the SSSI title in quote marks, or make it italic, to ensure the reader knows it's a single SSSI and not two. Hi, hope you had a good trip! These SSSIs seem to be taking longer to do than I thought! I reckon that I've identified all the sites that should be on their own article page for the Cornish mainland and now I'm going through those red links and creating them. I was wondering, would you be able to go through the Isles of Scilly SSSIs and either redirecting or creating their articles? As you seem to have a good knowledge of the Scillies, I like your expansion of White Island, Isles of Scilly. I agree with your thoughts that really the Isles shouldn't be listed under Cornwall, but I notice that this is how the Areas of Search are generated by Natural England - they use the 1974–1996 county system. As they are our main source, I think we should stick with what they use - also this is consistent with all other SSSI lists, such as List of Sites of Special Scientific Interest in Avon.
It is really hard, and seems slightly arbitrary, to decide which site needs an article, redirect or piping! In addition to the criteria that we agreed on I've also been using "sites that are also Nature Reserves or have noteworthy biology/geology" as criteria for creating articles; some of these have been able to be nominated for Did you knows. Unsure about whether to create new pages or redirect the SSSIs' to the main island articles. With St Agnes I am wavering towards creating new pages and I suppose there are too many on St Mary's to incorporate them all in the main article so its probably new pages as well. Penhale Sands

Hi, hope you had a good Christmas holiday! I liked the Penhale Sands article you started, I thought the St Piran fact in there was great, so I expanded it and submitted it to DYK. It's been put aside to be displayed on 5 March (St Piran's Day), I reckon we might be able to get a couple of other ones together to go alongside - I'll put it to the WikiProject later in the week.

Cheers, I started the Penhale one as I wanted to make sure it was called Penhale Sands and not Penhale Dunes; apart from English Nature I have never heard it called that. Great Wheal Fortune article

Hi, looking at the discussion at Wikipedia_talk:Did_you_know#Queue_3.2C_Cornish_mine, I realised that it should have been the mineral wolframite that was collected by the sackload in the 1950s, not wolfram. As I don't have access to the book, I would be grateful if you could just check that it does say 'wolframite' - tungsten does not occur in its elemental form, but confirmation would be good. I note that you are using Wrecksite extensively. Experience has shown that this site is not as reliable as it should be, info there should be cross-verified where possible. Spanish merchant flag

I've recently discovered that there was a distinct flag in use by Spanish merchantmen between 1785 and 1927. I've now managed to get it coded and it can now be used across various lists and articles. {{flag|Spain|civil}} produces  Spain. For pre-1785 and post-1927 ships, use the relevant year identifier per Template:Country data Spain. Mjroots (talk) 18:38, 24 May 2012 (UTC)

Rugby deletion discussion

I hope the recent discussion on Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Southern Counties North hasn't put you off wikipedia. I also had similar experiences when I started. Unfortunately there seem to be too many people (especially in Wikipedia:WikiProject Rugby union) who insteading of helping and encouraging are all too quick to find fault. Shame some of them couldn't put as much effort into improving articles – such as the English Premiership (rugby union) season pages, which are so basic; especially as it is one of the top club competitions in world rugby. I've managed to find my little niche, improving the second tier seasons and I hope you manage to find something as satisfying

Many thanks for your reply and support. It appears as though, on the grounds of "no consensus" that my 47 articles are not going to be deleted. The trouble is is that this is not the first time a large swathe of my efforts have been proposed for deletion and I don't see why I should have to continue to justify the efforts I put in.

It appears as though the person proposing the deletion is a member of the RU project who wanted the article deleted on the grounds of Insufficient reliable secondary source coverage If that editor had chosen to try to expand the article as I did, rather than wanting it deleted then a lot of offence and upset would have been avoided. After all, one of the initial respondants found this to be "highly disruptive" which is exactly what it is/was. Anyway, it appears as though my articles will not be deleted so I shall look to continue updating the various leagues and possibly creating a few new club articles to add to the three I have already written.(Rillington (talk) 16:42, 29 September 2012 (UTC))

Martha Quayle of Liverpool

Hello, The Robert Stephen Hawker article now has an account of this 1863 wreck at Morwenstow. The events lasted for several days and it was difficult to summarise Hawker's own account of it and get the sequence of events straight. It began at Hennacliff and involved various attempts to assist from Bude northwards to Clovelly and Appledore. It would be better to base an entry in 19th century list on some secondary sources rather than on Hawker's own letter to Godwin. Another letter printed in the same book reports events after the wreck of the "Ben Coolen".--Felix Folio Secundus (talk) 16:49, 20 November 2012 (UTC)

1987–88 Courage League National Division Two

Jowan, re your recent chance to 1987–88 Courage League National Division Two. I am not sure that they were using the modern bonus points system back in 1987/88. Isn't this anachronistic? Hamish59 (talk) 07:41, 5 April 2014 (UTC)

It's not the same, There is one point for a loss to encourage teams to fulfil their fixtures. I didn't remember it being used at the time, but have just looked at the final tables in the Guardian, and on the Moseley website, and they use the same system. Also used for Division 1 and 3 but the Area League Fours, and lower, use the two point for a win system. Jowaninpensans (talk) 08:29, 5 April 2014 (UTC)
