List of Phi Kappa Psi brothers FLC

Hello, Wikipedia:Featured list candidates/List of Phi Kappa Psi brothers/archive1 was listed 20 days ago, and is now also listed as one of the "nominations urgently needing reviews." So far four reviewers have weighed in. All objections have been met. There are two votes of support, and none opposed. As per The Rambling Man, "typically, although not prescriptively, Dabomb or I will look for around four votes of support." He also suggested that I contact "regular reviewers" such as yourself to see if you would be willing to comment. I'm happy to address constructive criticism. Hopefully upon resolving critiques, if you believe that the list is worthy, you will also grant support. Thanks, NYCRuss 17:02, 6 May 2010 (UTC)

Sure, I'll take a look at it. Jujutacular T · C 17:03, 6 May 2010 (UTC)
Thanks! NYCRuss 18:16, 6 May 2010 (UTC)
Your Featured picture candidate has been promoted
Your nomination for featured picture status, File:Great presidential puzzle2.jpg, gained a consensus of support, and has been promoted. If you would like to nominate another image, please do so at Wikipedia:Featured picture candidates. Maedin\talk 23:08, 8 May 2010 (UTC)

Thank you for writing the article on seaweed farming. It certainly enhanced the picture's EV. Maedin\talk 18:12, 9 May 2010 (UTC)

My pleasure :) I was a bit surprised there wasn't one already. Jujutacular T · C 21:40, 9 May 2010 (UTC)
I wonder if you would consider adding a few words to The Bushranger's talk page regarding the WP:SNOW closure of his nomination? Makeemlighter has before left a message letting new contributors know about these kinds of closures, just as a courtesy. There's a sort of template you can nick from Makeemlighter here: [1]. Just a thought! Good luck with your exams, :) Maedin\talk 07:04, 10 May 2010 (UTC)
Great idea, just did it. Thanks for the note :) Perhaps we should write something about doing that into the closing procedure. I'll bring it up after exams! /Returns to studying... Jujutacular T · C 07:21, 10 May 2010 (UTC)

Account Creation Interface

I have requested an account on the ACC account creation interface. Jujutacular T · C 19:50, 19 May 2010 (UTC)

Thank you for applying to access the account creation tool. I have approved your request so welcome to the team. You may now access the tool here. Before you do so, please read the tool's guide thoroughly to familiarize yourself with the process. You may also want to join #wikipedia-en-accounts on IRC where a bot informs us when new account requests come in and to get any advice on requests as well as the mailing list. Please note that we have implemented a policy of zero tolerance on mishandled requests, and that failure to assess correctly will result in suspension.
Currently you are allowed to create up to six accounts per day (a day being from 0:00 UTC to 23:59 UTC), although you won't be able to create an account with a similar name to that of another user; these requests are marked "Account Creator Needed". However, if you reach the limit frequently, you can request the account creator permission at WP:PERM.
Please keep in mind that the ACC tool is a powerful program, and misuse will result in your access being suspended by a tool administrator. Don't hesitate to get in touch with me if you have any questions. Thank you for participating in the account creation process. Again welcome! ---- Александр Дмитрий (Alexandr Dmitri) (talk) 19:53, 19 May 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for the work! I've approved everything. I simply misunderstood your method of citation; I thought that the sources in question were used for everything from "The titles of the pieces" to '"Aki kaze no kyoku" (秋風の曲?)' in this version of the page. Now I understand why you had information in this segment of the page that I couldn't find on any of those pages...Nyttend (talk) 17:37, 20 May 2010 (UTC)

Wikipedia is not a liar

I see you removed the " " from the museum article in Paris. I request that you put it back.

The museum is being stingy with the details. The truth is that they are closed because of the theft. Technical reasons is an excuse and a vague explanation. That would be like saying the President of Nigeria, His Excellency Mr. Yar'Adua, will not be attending the dinner due to medical reasons. Yes, medical reasons, he's dead.

So you wrote "removed quotes around "technical reasons". As it is, makes it look like we are questioning the validity of the closure". Yes, we are. To be the most neutral we can write that the "museum is closed citing 'technical reasons' ". Suomi Finland 2009 (talk) 21:09, 20 May 2010 (UTC)

Perfect alternative, thank you. I have made the change. Jujutacular T · C 21:17, 20 May 2010 (UTC)

Replied to FPC review thread

[4] Regards, Papa Lima Whiskey (talk) 17:41, 26 May 2010 (UTC)

Your closing statement says "No arguments to delete besides nominator". Technically true, but I argued for a redirection which is, in essence, a "delete". --Mkativerata (talk) 05:39, 27 May 2010 (UTC)

Since it is Articles for Deletion, I would say that any vote besides delete constitutes keeping the article (whether it acts as a redirect or not) since it doesn't involve the technical act of deleting the article. Discussion about whether to merge/redirect/etc can continue on the article's talk page. Jujutacular T · C 05:51, 27 May 2010 (UTC)
"Redirect" is an extremely common outcome of AfD debates, especially for political candidates where the relevant guideline says "redirect as a general rule". Redirecting is the same as deleting: the whole content of the article goes. It's just replaced by a redirect instead of a redlink. Often when debates are closed as "redirect" the article gets deleted and replaced with a redirect. AfD debates are to be judged on substance, not whether people put a bold "keep" or "delete" in front of their !votes. Clearly the substance of my !vote was to delete the article and replace it with a search aid. I've never seen an administrator close a debate in this way.--Mkativerata (talk) 05:57, 27 May 2010 (UTC)
I've seen it quite a bit, but very well. Undone. Jujutacular T · C 06:02, 27 May 2010 (UTC)

WikiCup 2010 May newsletter

We are half way through round 3, with a little under a month to go. The current overall leader is Hungary Sasata (submissions), who has 570 points. He leads pool C. Pools A, B and D are led by Pennsylvania Hunter Kahn (submissions), Colorado Sturmvogel_66 (submissions) and White Shadows (submissions) respectively. Anything you worry may not receive the necessary attention before the end of the round (such as outstanding GA or FA nominations) is welcome at Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews, and please remember to continue offering reviews yourself where possible. As always, the judges are available to contact via email, IRC or their talk pages, and general discussion about the Cup is welcome on the WikiCup talk page.

Two of last year's final 8, Sweden Theleftorium (submissions) and Iceland Scorpion0422 (submissions), have dropped out of the competition, saying they would rather their place went to someone who will have more time on their hands than them next round. On a related note, a special thank you goes to White Shadows (submissions) for his help behind the scenes once again. There is currently a problem with the poster, perhaps caused by the new skin- take a look at this discussion and see if you can help. The competition has continued to tick over well with minimal need for judge intervention, so thank you to everyone making that possible. Good luck to all! If you wish to start receiving or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove yourself from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. Non-admin closure

Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Aboobacker_Ahmad. See examples to avoid NAC. Enigmamsg 13:07, 3 June 2010 (UTC)

I'm going to assume you're referrring to it being non-unanimous. However, the only delete !vote besides the nominator was an indefinitely blocked sockpuppet, and used the argument "just not notable". I consider that close non-controversial. If you still believe that the closure was inappropriate, feel free to undo it and relist the discussion. Thanks. Jujutacular T · C 00:23, 4 June 2010 (UTC)
OK, I didn't realize that. You're right. Sorry, Enigmamsg 05:37, 4 June 2010 (UTC)
No problem at all. Thank you for pointing out the perceived error. One of the worst things I see around enwiki is people letting bad behaviors go out of fear of controversy. We should all be ready to discuss calmly our actions and the actions of others. Happy editing! Jujutacular T · C 11:30, 4 June 2010 (UTC)

FLC review urgent

Hi! Since you are familiar with reviewing Lists of National Treasures of Japan, I thought you could help out with the following... List of National Treasures of Japan (archaeological materials) is presently a featured list candidate and marked as Nominations urgently needing reviews which means that it is in danger of failing the nomination due to a lack of reviews. I'd be happy, if you could have a look at the list and leave comments, questions or suggestions at the nomination page. The criteria to be checked against are found here. Thanks. bamse (talk) 14:24, 7 June 2010 (UTC)

Sure, I'll take a look at it today. Jujutacular T · C 15:07, 7 June 2010 (UTC)
Thank you. Much appreciated. bamse (talk) 15:23, 7 June 2010 (UTC)

My opinion is only my own, and in any case there's nothing wrong with including the picture in the article. But I'd predict that the following objections would be raised against the argument that the photo has EV for the subject of the statue: - Only a small minority of the area of the photograph is devoted to the statue at all. - A statue, while it has artistic merit, is not the most encyclopedic way of depicting what someone looks like. A photograph, or barring that a portrait, is generally better. The only featured picture of a statue that comes to my mind is this one (nommed by me, although I didn't take the photo), where the EV mostly comes from depicting a detail of the Brandenberg Gate. If there were an article about this statue, then this photo could have good EV. Another thing-- are you sure that the statue itself is not covered by copyright? Can't always take that for granted: [5] Spikebrennan (talk) 02:46, 11 June 2010 (UTC)

Sources I just figured that I'd let you know that http://allgoodnaysayers.net/ might shut down soon. Hi! In regards to the pic, try sending a message at User talk:Djarizpe13 - He may not respond there, but the photo credits are to "Daniel Arizpe" so if you find an e-mail address it would be helpful to contact him.

In regards to the possible location, Sabine Park's view is here - It seems likely that this was taken around the park, as the Continental Center I is to the far right both in the Google Maps view and in the Arizpe pic. WhisperToMe (talk) 03:20, 16 June 2010 (UTC)

WPA FPC nom

I see you found a WPA FPC nominee from the 1930s. I am wondering if you know how to find any Grant Park Concerts posters by the WPA from the 1930s.--TonyTheTiger (T/C/BIO/WP:CHICAGO/WP:FOUR) 07:09, 19 June 2010 (UTC)

Found that poster in the WPA collection of the Library of Congress. Searching for the concert: [7] [8] unfortunately didn't return any results. "Grant Park" gets some hits: [9], but none seemingly related to the concerts. Sorry, tough luck. If you do ever get your hands on some originals I'd love to do a restoration. Jujutacular T · C 15:39, 19 June 2010 (UTC)
By the way, I was thinking of doing a restoration for a "Century of Progress" exposition poster next - which I believe are in the public domain because they were printed without a copyright notice (before 1978). Which one would you prefer? [10], [11], [12]? (I can get them all in high resolution if you want to decide then). Jujutacular T · C 15:45, 19 June 2010 (UTC)
I can not actually see them in the thumb version to make a choice. Are you able to teach about restoration of such files?--TonyTheTiger (T/C/BIO/WP:CHICAGO/WP:FOUR) 15:50, 19 June 2010 (UTC)
I could - you are using GIMP, correct? I tried it once with GIMP and honestly found it much more difficult honestly (I usually use Photoshop). However, those posters look to be pretty good condition so maybe it wouldn't be too bad. Jujutacular T · C 15:53, 19 June 2010 (UTC)
Durova's blog: [13] is a great resource for learning restoration techniques. The "cauldron" on the left margin has a list of subjects covered. Jujutacular T · C 16:13, 19 June 2010 (UTC)
I use GIMP, hugin, and paint to do my photo editing. I also have Corel Paint Shop Pro, but have never used it as well as all the utilities that come with Canon cameras.--TonyTheTiger (T/C/BIO/WP:CHICAGO/WP:FOUR) 16:18, 19 June 2010 (UTC)
GIMP is probably your best bet then. LoC website seems to be down right now, but I'll get those in full resolution sometime tonight and let you know. Jujutacular T · C 16:33, 19 June 2010 (UTC)

No problem - looks to be all taken care of now :) Jujutacular T · C 17:58, 19 June 2010 (UTC)

I'm sorry, but that's just ridiculous. Even if that's the rules as written (which, officially, it isn't- "For promotion, if an image is listed here for about seven days with four or more reviewers in support (excluding the nominator(s)) and the consensus is in its favor, it can be added to the Wikipedia:Featured pictures list."- it clearly had that) this should have been closed as a promote. J Milburn (talk) 11:48, 21 June 2010 (UTC)

A minimum of 5 full supports has been the standard of practice for a while (1 2 3). Bring it up on WT:FPC if you still disagree - I would welcome the scrutiny. I've been wrong before :) Jujutacular T · C 14:11, 21 June 2010 (UTC)

WikiCup 2010 June newsletter

We're half way through 2010, and the end of the WikiCup is in sight! Round 3 is over, and we're down to our final 16. Our pool winners were Ian Rose (submissions) (A), Colorado Sturmvogel_66 (submissions) (B, and the round's overall leader), Colombia ThinkBlue (submissions) (C) New South Wales Casliber (submissions) and New Orleans TonyTheTiger (submissions) (D, joint), but, with the scores reset, everything is to play for in our last pooled round. The pools will be up before midnight tonight, and have been selected randomly by J Milburn. This will be the toughest round yet, and so, as ever, anything you worry may not receive the necessary attention before the end of the round (such as outstanding GA or FA nominations) is welcome at Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews, and please remember to continue offering reviews yourself where possible. As always, the judges are available to contact via email, IRC or their talk pages, and general discussion about the Cup is welcome on the WikiCup talk page.

Though unaffiliated with the WikiCup, July sees the third Great Wikipedia Dramaout- a project with not dissimilar goals to the WikiCup. Everyone is welcome to take part and do their bit to contribute to the encyclopedia itself.

If you're interested in the scores for the last round of the Cup, please take a look at Wikipedia:WikiCup/History/2010/Round 3 and Wikipedia:WikiCup/History/2010/Full/Round 3. Our thanks go to Bavaria Stone (submissions) for compiling these. As was predicted, Group C ended up the "Group of Death", with 670 points required for second place, and, therefore, automatic promotion. This round will probably be even tougher- again, the top two from each of the two groups will make it through, while the twelve remaining participants will compete for four wildcard places- good luck everyone!
