Image cleanup requests 2007[edit]

Do not add non-current organizations to this list, current raster/bitmap images need to be at least 140px wide

Blanking[edit]

Why'd you blank this page? It's better to archive it. Let me know if you some help.Rlevse 02:30, 21 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Didn't really think it mattered. Just seemed a bit cluttered to me. -- Kaboom88 02:33, 21 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Well, you can blank your own user page or talk page (not an article or other talk page though), but it's better practice to archive it. You'd be amazed how much you may come looking for something later. I'll call up an old history of your page and archive it. If you have trouble seeing how I did it, let me know. Rlevse 02:36, 21 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks :) -- Kaboom88 02:42, 21 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
No problem, YIS, Rlevse 02:43, 21 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
So, should I go ahead and change the articles back to BSA universal emblem.svg, or should they just be left as is (BSA.svg)? -- Kaboom88 02:47, 21 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, please. You should be able to check the article history and select Undo. Fix the tags on the images as well. Thanks! --Gadget850 ( Ed) 16:45, 21 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Guess I wasn't quick enough, because Image:BSA universal emblem.svg had already been deleted. So uploaded it again and then undid the changes on the article pages, and corrected the tags on both images. -- Kaboom88 00:33, 22 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, but you fixed it. And there was much rejoicing. . . --Gadget850 ( Ed) 02:05, 22 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

old World Crest, revisited[edit]

Thanks, you rock, that's wonderful, I'm glad you're part of the Project, you're great with graphics! (wish you were around on a couple of the Scout graphic requests that failed to be improved). You have a nice evening! Chris 03:37, 21 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

No problem, do you recall which Scout graphics were needing to be improved? -- Kaboom88 00:33, 22 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You've already made friends at the Project, you're the new wunderkind! Chris 05:07, 23 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Region map[edit]

Check out the region map at Image:BSA_Region_Map.svg. I went off a 92 region map for the boundaries, so if they are wrong you'll have to get the correct map so I can remap it. As for the Saudi Arabian emblem, I 'might' be able to do the fleur de lis, but anything more than that would most likely be out of the question. You will definitely need to get a larger version somewhere. I would however, be more than happy to draw it for you if you do get a larger version. -- Kaboom88 11:34, 23 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Wow! If I had known you were going to do this, I would have referred you to the free maps at Commons that you could work from.[1]. The most current full map I know if is at [2]. SR map is at [3] and WR is [4]. I would suggest changing Germany to Transatlantic Council as TAC covers more than just Germany; ditto for changing Japan to Far East Council. --Gadget850 ( Ed) 11:57, 23 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I did look up the maps on Commons before I started on it, but didn't like the results I was getting with them. They weren't really made properly, and when borders were added to the states, it looked off. I made a couple different versions of maps, and will maybe add them to the Commons for other people to use. I will go ahead and change both Japan and Germany, did everything else look OK? I didn't really have anything to go off of except an old map I found online some where with everything colored. -- Kaboom88 14:35, 23 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Looking at http://www.tac-bsa.org/districts.htm and http://www.fareastbsa.org/districts.htm, it appears that there are quite a few more countries included in both the TAC and FAC, should they maybe just be left off, or should I go ahead and include all of the countries on the map as well? Seems like it should be all or nothing to me. Maybe make another map for each of those councils? -- Kaboom88 14:45, 23 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
It looks great. The problem with TAC and FEC is that they change frequently, and both have shrunk quite a bit since the end of the Cold War. I was in TAC for six years and my old district no longer exists. I think a box with just Far East Council and a box with Transatlantic Council and Europe would work. Now, if you want to make separate maps for the FEC and TAC articles, that would be great. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Gadget850 (talkcontribs) 16:38, 23 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Uploaded new version without Japan and Germany on it. Will go ahead and do both of the Councils as well, since it won't take that long. -- Kaboom88 20:11, 23 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fixed all

There is something wrong with the Virgina/West Virginia borders in the original map. I need to look into this. --Gadget850 ( Ed) 13:00, 24 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

--Gadget850 ( Ed) 18:10, 24 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

question/suggestion-the dark blue or purple for the Northeast Region doesn't read well, can another color be chosen, lighter-maybe red, pink, yellow or violet? Each would contrast but be more readable, especially as this would be condensed down. Thanks for doing this! Chris 03:37, 25 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Everything has been fixed, don't hesitate to let me know if anything else might be wrong with it. -- Kaboom88 02:19, 27 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
That's killer, I love how you even choose the shades to work together! Would you remove the wording "BSA Region Map"? Once we get it in articles, that will be in captions and/or will explain itself. Thanks, brother! Chris 02:54, 27 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
That was an easy fix. -- Kaboom88 03:04, 27 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I've uploaded it into the BSA article, there was a space missing for it! :) Thanks! Chris 04:23, 27 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Arch template[edit]

I did not know the archive box have grown to a template. Good to know. Rlevse 18:14, 21 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I didn't know either, I thought you did that. -- Kaboom88 00:33, 22 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Randy added the archive as a table, I changed it to a template that he did not know about. The great thing is that there is a template for almost every use; the bad thing is that many of them are not well categorized and you only find them when you see it used somewhere. Templates are neater than raw tables and easier to use. --Gadget850 ( Ed) 02:09, 22 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I agree, and this template is written better than most and it has a great example section. Rlevse 10:05, 22 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Vector images[edit]

Howdy, do you have any images in particular that you'd like to have converted to svg, or any that may need some work? -- Kaboom88 02:35, 21 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I saw this on Ed's page, if you want to have at Category:Scout and Guide national emblems, you're really good at this stuff! Chris 03:05, 27 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
As well as Image:WOSMMap-World.png and other world regional maps. Chris 04:24, 27 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Navigation boxes[edit]

I'm afraid non-free images are not allowed in navboxes. See WP:NFC, specifically:

Significance. Non-free content is used only if its presence would significantly increase readers' understanding of the topic, and its omission would be detrimental to that understanding. Non-free media files are not used if they can be replaced by text that serves a similar function.

and

The use of non-free media in lists, galleries, discographies, and navigational and user-interface elements usually fails the test for significance (criterion #8), and if it fails this test such use is unacceptable.

Later... --— Gadget850 (Ed) talk - 11:00, 28 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Do you remember what you might be referring to here? The only thing I can think of that might fall in to this category are the nav boxes on The Scout Association pages (Beaver Scouts, Cubs, Scouts, Explorer Scouts, Scout Network). If that's the case, you can go ahead and remove the images if you'd like. I just replaced the images that were already in the boxes. -- Kaboom88 11:46, 28 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Hmmm—you are correct. We removed them once, then someone came back and added them again. --— Gadget850 (Ed) talk - 12:43, 28 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Do you want to remove the images or would you like me to do it? -- Kaboom88 12:52, 28 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I went ahead and removed the images from the nav boxes on the above mentioned pages. I also found some on the Scouting Ireland articles, so I removed them as well. -- Kaboom88 22:16, 28 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. I know they look good, but decorative uses of non-free images just is not allowed. I do believe I even added a note to the template documentation about that. --— Gadget850 (Ed) talk - 23:01, 28 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

User boxes[edit]

I was going to bring up an image use problem to the project community, but perhaps you can help with a solution before I start breaking some bad news. We have a number of nice [[Wikipedia:WikiProject Scouting/Userboxes}userboxes]]. The non-free content rules state that you can not use non-free images anywhere but in articles, and even then only under certain circumstances. Unfortunately, we have a number of userboxes with images that are marked as free, but aren't. For example, {{Wikipedia:WikiProject Scouting/Userboxes/Queen's Scout}} uses Image:AUSQueensScoutBadge.svg; this image was created by a member and uploaded as public domain. The problem is that is is not PD, and a comparison to Image:Qs-logo-gradient.jpg shows this; see User:Gadget850/Sandbox6. Even if the image is hand-made, if it looks like the real image, then it falls under the same copyrights. On the other hand, Image:KnotEagle.png is different enough that it can be used in {{Wikipedia:WikiProject Scouting/Userboxes/Eagle Scout}}. So, what we need is an image that conveys the meaning of Queen Scout, but is not like the real image. Any ideas? --— Gadget850 (Ed) talk - 23:15, 28 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I threw something together kind of quick, it's Image:Australia Queens Scout.svg. I added it to your sandbox and put down below as a test in the size it would be used. Although I don't really like them, I used the colors from the existing images in the picture below. I am by no means attached to this image. -- Kaboom88 01:49, 29 October 2007 (UTC) 45px[reply]
Looks good to me. Close enough to convey the meaning, different enough to be free. --— Gadget850 (Ed) talk - 01:51, 29 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Which other user boxes are using non-free images? I can give those a go as well if you'd like. -- Kaboom88 02:47, 29 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Now listed at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Scouting#Userboxes. Thanks! --— Gadget850 (Ed) talk - 19:05, 29 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I just noticed that {{Wikipedia:WikiProject Scouting/Userboxes/Eagle Scout}} actually uses a parameter to switch between four images:

The only real issue is that none of them have transparency and they are on a background.

{{Wikipedia:WikiProject Scouting/Userboxes/BSA Religious Award}} uses two images:

You can over-write these when you update them. Thanks. --— Gadget850 (Ed) talk - 23:13, 2 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Iceland[edit]

Can you work your magic on Image:Icelandd.jpg? Thanks! Chris 05:55, 30 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Though I gave it a whirl, it's really just too small. I can get the easy shapes (the outer fleur de lis, half-moon and bar below it), the remaining inner fleur de lis and triangles aren't detailed enough and I would just be guessing, which wouldn't do any justice to the original. Where do you find all of these pictures, anyways? -- Kaboom88 09:37, 30 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for trying, this one was trimmed from a postage stamp a friend sent me a scan of. Others I own or have collected over nearly 30 years in Scouts. (if 88 is your birthyear, I got my Eagle two years earlier) Which pictures did you have in mind specifically, I can give you details. Or are you looking for particular hard-to-find images yourself?
Okay, next, can you make 140px an SVG? It's beautiful and they really did nice work, but it really should not have the silver-grey background; per the Scouting WP manual of style, national emblems and badges should have plain white backgrounds. Thanks, Chris 07:20, 31 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Not looking for anything, I was just curious. Seemed like you have uploaded a lot of pics on Wikimedia, I usually have to dig quite a bit to find any good pics (LMAO) their respective official website. I was born in 82, Eagle in 96. Didn't turn 14 until after my board of review. -- Kaboom88 06:10, 1 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Another Scout editor, Jergen, and I have collected images of almost all WOSM, many WAGGGS and some of the other 6 world Scout organizations' insignia over the last two years, and local editors have sent in better copies or redone them. We even used to have a gallery of all the national badges, but the 'pedia said it was a violation. Pity, it was beautiful to see all of them together. We've just done a lot of digging, grabbing from websites, scanning from books... I know, for instance, somewhere in storage I have both Guinea and Andorra, ones we still lack here, but they're buried. I can actually give you great specs of Andorra if you wouldn't mind rebuilding one from word of mouth. YiS, Chris 06:22, 1 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I finished up the Scouts de España logo, I added it to the Scouts de España article, and re-added the belt buckle image. Let me know if you'd like to have it colored, It wouldn't be too hard. Though you will need to know what colors you want, if any. -- Kaboom88 22:19, 1 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you, that's beautiful, you really have an eye for detail. What I meant was really, can you take the existing gold photograph and make a SVG from that? When the PNG condenses, the background turns grey (outside the badge), that should not be, it makes it look scanned on a piece of paper, and is artificial. Plain would be better behind it. Thanks again! Chris 06:12, 2 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I guess I misunderstood you, however, after reading it again, I still don't know for sure that I understand what you want, but I think you maybe wanted something like this:

Image:Spain SDE.png

It can be lightened up like the picture that came from the lab if you'd like, but I thought it'd be best if I make sure I knew what you wanted before going any further.
IMHO, I think the picture of the belt buckle looks very nice undisturbed (even though it's kind of small and a little dark) and should also be displayed on the article page. -- Kaboom88 20:40, 2 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

All I'm asking, don't change the image, just make Image:Scouts de Espania ZP.png into Image:Scouts de Espania ZP.svg Chris 05:36, 3 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Just changing it to an .svg file will not fix any problems. If I were to just copy Image:Scouts de Espania ZP.png (or any other raster graphic for that matter), and then save it as an .svg, it would not display in the browser any better. Just saving/converting it to an .svg will look the same (or worse) as the original raster graphic.
Is it the uneveness of the border that you don't like? That's the only problem that I see with Image:Scouts de Espania ZP.png, or at least that's the only part of the image I see that could be considered blurred or grey, and therefore, make enlarging/shrinking the image display horribly. -- Kaboom88 06:01, 3 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
It could just be my monitor, but where the larger PNG shows a clear background, when scaled it has one that looks like a sixth grader playing with a scanner. There should be _no_ background, scaled or unscaled. Chris 06:05, 3 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Pick the one that shows what you are talking about and see if the bottom row is any better. -- Kaboom88 06:24, 3 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

They all show the grey boxes, at all resolutions. SVGs don't, at least for me. Chris 06:36, 3 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I don't know what to tell you there, on my screen, they all have transparent backgrounds. I'm not sure what the problem is, because if the .svg's are displaying correctly for you, then the .png's should as well. This is because any .svg images displayed in an article are converted to .png's by MediaWiki so that they will display in all browsers. What brower and operating system are you running? -- Kaboom88 06:54, 3 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I have no idea (drools down my non-tech chin). Okay, we'll leave it as it is. As to the beltbuckle, it's no use in the article as it is too dark and the emblem alone represents the org. If we found a troop photo, that would be useful. Now that we have just the logo, the buckle is extraneous. Unless you want to stick it at Scouting memorabilia collecting. Chris 07:43, 3 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Ok -- Kaboom88 07:57, 3 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Next request to give it a look[edit]

Would you go to Wikipedia:Graphic Lab/Images to improve#Coat of arms of the Federation of Rhodesia and Nyasaland and see if you can kickstart it? It seems to have stalled. Thanks! Chris 02:29, 1 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I did a little work on it -> Image:Central African Federation Coat of Arms.svg, hopefully that helps. If you have time, you could scroll threw the mess that is Wikimedia Commons and see if you can find either of the four animals on a completed coat of arms. They would need to be vector or very large raster to be of much use. -- Kaboom88 06:10, 1 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I will keep looking, meanwhile I want to thank you, do you know what a great gift you have? I found a close bird and a close big cat, both at the ostentatious Image:Coat of arms of Zambia.svg and Image:Malawi coa.png, as well as a 50 year old badge Image:Scouting in Nyasaland historic badge.png, which again, I have a larger one somewhere. Nov 2, next one to try[edit]

Do you know what it's supposed to say on the banner? -- Kaboom88 06:01, 3 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Napahatove. I will get you the clean, capital Cyrillic. Chris 06:07, 3 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

НАПАГАТОВЕ Chris 06:12, 3 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Is there supposed to be something at the end of "НАПАГАТОВЕ", looks like there is an "I" or something. -- Kaboom88 06:24, 3 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It's an exclamation point. Chris 06:38, 3 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, that's easy enough. -- Kaboom88 06:54, 3 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
100px Done -- Kaboom88 07:26, 3 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
That rocks! You're amazing, brother! Chris 07:34, 3 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
The only change I see that should be tweaked, the red horizontal band should be equal to and equally between the white horizontal bands, it's a flag. Chris 07:39, 3 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Fixed (may not display correctly in browser until cache is cleared), if you view .svg by itself it's fine. -- Kaboom88 07:57, 3 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Take a look at Wikipedia:Graphic Lab/Images to improve#Vietnamese Scout Association Chris 00:07, 5 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
That is really close, and beautiful work as always, thank you!; however the red and the green need to be much lighter like the first one. Also, there are diacritical marks over the letters. It should be Sắp Sẵn, except in capital letters. Chris 06:23, 5 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
You're on the right track! Yes, please, uniform light greens and reds for both, thanks! (I hope I'm not throwing too much weird stuff at you) Chris 10:21, 6 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Also, is it possible to invert the image, so you just get the line art, like this: 140px? Chris 04:35, 7 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

That one's a little different than the other two, I made one for it, see Image:Vietnam FIAS.svg -- Kaboom88 00:16, 8 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

do you do word-of-mouth requests?[edit]

The reason I ask is, there is a badge I have only seen, but do not have, and cannot find a photo of, but if I give you a description, it should be able to rebuild easily, if you are game. Image:GenScoutbadge.jpgImage:Coat of arms of Andorra.svgImage:Flag of Andorra.svg This is a Scout badge for Andorra. Using the grey template (with or without the Girl Scout trefoil, your choice, could you color the individual petals, left blue, center gold, right red, with the central part (just the shield) in the coat of arms in the center? Thanks if you can, even if you can't. -- Chris 20:42, 3 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Shouldn't be a prob, I'm assuming you want to use the same blue, gold and red from the flag? -- Kaboom88 22:12, 3 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
How's this:
120px

Those are some nice colors too, I added them to my swatches in Illustrator. Let me know if shield is too big or too small, will take about 5 seconds to change, same goes for anything else you want fixed. -- Kaboom88 23:44, 3 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
That is great, thank you so much! For some reason, whoever did the original shield graphic made the bottom rounded edges uneven and weird looking. Can you see the dis-symmetry I mean?
Are those not standard colors in Illustrator? Thanks again, Chris 05:17, 4 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Nope, and Illustrator really sucks for coloring. Sometimes when you save a color that you like, it will remember it. Other times, it just disappears when you close the program. It's quite frustrating. But then again, the entire Illustrator program is frustrating until you learn how to use it. The best thing about the program (function-wise), is the unlimited history that it stores, which comes in quite handy at times. -- Kaboom88 05:27, 4 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I changed the shield, I think I fixed what you were talking about. -- Kaboom88 20:04, 4 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

(nailed it, thanks!) Chris 10:01, 5 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Getting an error here. Click on the Andorra image link, then click on the image and I get "XML Parsing Error: prefix not bound to a namespace." The old versions generate this error as well. Other SVGs open fine. --— Gadget850 (Ed) talk - 20:46, 4 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I got the same error, and I tried to fix it, but I don't know what the problem is. I will probably have to re-draw everything that I copied from Image:Coat of arms of Andorra.svg. Luckily, the preview png displays just fine. -- Kaboom88 21:22, 4 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Finally got this fixed, ended up going through the SVG code and removing all of the leftover Inkscape b.s. -- Kaboom88 07:08, 11 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Eagle knot[edit]

Great job on the Eagle knot! I never did like the one we were using. You are SO GOOD at this stuff! RlevseTalk 21:34, 3 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks! I was not too crazy about the other userbox images either. -- Kaboom88 22:12, 3 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Image:Malaysia PPM.svg[edit]

Sorry, brother, your star on this one is wrong. Image:Malaysia PPM.svg should have the Federal Star (Bintang Persekutuan) like in the Image:Flag of Malaysia.svg, it's a very specific and constitutionally mandated shape that can only be used. Great work and I love your energy, please fix this one. Thanks, Chris 06:03, 8 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I was going off of the old image, so that is where that came from. I will fix. -- Kaboom88 06:26, 8 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

question[edit]

Brother, I am insanely curious (or at least the first part), how do you decide which images to improve and SVGify each day?

  • Are they ones we point you to?
  • Are they the simpler-to-recreate more geometric ones?
  • Are they countries and places you have an interest in?
  • Are they ones you see that need fixing while you were looking for something else?

I always watch what you do each day, as you are so good with these graphics, you've cleaned through most of my image upgrade wishlist already, I am happy you're here. Thanks, Chris 07:08, 8 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

There's no real rhyme or reason, I have no particular interest in any country, but I do like to see well-designed logos (most end up being from Europe). I don't have any interest in Scouting around the world, so there isn't much browsing going on. I have been going to Age Groups in Scouting and Guiding and working on those, but I usually get sidetracked half-way through (though I think I've finished most of them now). If I happen to see one somewhere that's large enough for me to recreate, I go ahead and do that. If it's too small, I look around the web to try and find something bigger, if I don't find something larger, I just skip it. Unfortunately, not all of the countries are listed on the Age Groups in Scouting and Guiding article, so unless I think about a certain country, or see a link somewhere, they will get overlooked. -- Kaboom88 07:29, 8 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Is it okay that Ed and Randy and I suggest image-fixes to you? I never want to take advantage of your mad skyllz (yes, both the y and the z), but it has been like Christmas lately, we're enjoying seeing what you do! Chris 07:34, 8 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
That's fine, just start a new header on the top of this page with the article names that have images you would like to have fixed. Don't put up specific images, as that is what is usually the killer (time-wise). I'll strikethrough the ones that are done, and put comments next to the ones that I don't think I can do properly. I can't make any guarantees though, I will be starting a new job shortly to support myself while at college, and time (and attention-span) will be limited. -- 08:14, 8 November 2007 (UTC)

Scouting in Illinois[edit]

I saw your edits to this and would like to point out a few things. External links in section headings isn't normally done. I know some of the other state articles are done like that, but I've been slowly cleaning them up--I really need to move faster on it. Nowhere else on wiki will you see this, so this state article thing was done by the same person. Except for proper nouns, only the first letter of a section heading is upper case, so it's See also, External links, etc.--you didn't do that, but that's one of the common mistakes. See WP:GTL on all this. You're do awesome work here and we're really glad to have you. Ext links gp in External links, unless you're using them as a ref. These could be used as refs. Most of the state articles need lots of work. I didn't have time this am to properly format them as refs.RlevseTalk 11:00, 8 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

No problem, I just tried to make them all of the same. I didn't think having header links was a good idea. I'll make sure I go by what you mentioned for any further edits. Would the links to each council be best put under each individual council or bunch them all up in alphabetical order in the External links section, or both? -- Kaboom88 15:45, 8 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Doh! I guess I should get my head out of my rear. Checked the article and I saw how you fixed it. -- Kaboom88 15:53, 8 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
If you don't use them for refs, they go in External links, but I figured you'd eventually want to use as refs, so I put in the body. They still need ref fmt'ing. I'll try to do one as a sample later today. RlevseTalk 16:24, 8 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I went through every state and territory article and took out all the funky colors, linked titles and such. I’ve been meaning to do that for a long time.RlevseTalk 02:48, 11 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Barbados[edit]

You can color this in, we know the colors, using Image:Flag of Barbados.svg. The body of the trefoil and the scroll are gold, the outer rim and lettering are blue, the starburst is white. Very cool, glad to see you found this one! Chris 03:38, 9 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

old versions of emblems[edit]

When you create a new modern logo where an organization once had a traditional emblem, if that older emblem looks significantly different, would you please put the old emblem somewhere else in the article, rather than orphan-tagging them? It's nice to show historical progression. Chris 22:25, 9 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Feel free to go ahead and revert anything and everything I do on here, as I don't check my histories or contribs for recent changes.
Having said that, what is the purpose of having an old version of an image placed in an article? I see a lot of these and all they seem to do is clutter everything up. Unless the article or a section of an article is specifically about the history of the logo, I don't see how having an old logo has any purpose. Wouldn't this fall into the What_wikipedia_is_not category? By leaving these old images and the such in articles, I can only see how you would provoke 'deletionists' or the other nazis on Wikipedia to go ahead and delete/modify content because it doesn't conform to Wiki standards. -- Kaboom88 23:28, 9 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Fair enough, (though I disagree about them being clutter) because of the deletionists, you're right. (Wait, have you been here long enough to be cynical like us old guys? :) ) Thanks, consider it retracted. Chris 04:06, 10 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
A few weeks is probably not long enough to become cynical, but I have seen a few instances of the deletionist admins doing their work. I'm surprised Rettetast didn't delete all of the images on the Age Groups in Scouting and Guiding page instead of just adding the incorrect non-free use template, he was probably too lazy to go through all of them. -- Kaboom88 05:33, 10 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
You're very astute. Glad to have you here with us! :) Chris 05:52, 10 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

(butting in) I have to agree with K on this one. We should only use current logos; an historical logo should be used only where it is specifically relevant to the article. --— Gadget850 (Ed) talk - 23:45, 9 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

capitalization[edit]

I appreciate all your hard work, thank you! You don't capitalize words that are not proper titles, to include "official" in "official website". Just and FYI. Chris 02:16, 12 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, but if you have time to go through all of my contribs every day, perhaps you also have time to go through all of the Scouting articles and correct every grammar and spelling error before worrying about a gray area such as the capitalization of 'Official' when it's following a '-', especially when it's not in the actual article itself. The reason I correct them (and nearly everything else that I correct, for that matter) the way I do is so that they all at the very least look the same, which is an area that is quite lacking in a lot of the Scouting articles. -- Kaboom88 02:39, 12 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I promise, I'm not going through all of your contributions. We have similar interests, we touch on a lot of the same articles, many of which are on my watchlist. Please don't be defensive, accept it in the spirit it is meant. As always, your brother, Chris 03:05, 12 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
"I always watch what you do each day" from question, Chris 07:08, 8 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Since I'm new to this, I expect to be corrected, and within reason, I appreciate being told when I do something that isn't right. I think you understood the point I was trying to make though. -- Kaboom88 04:28, 12 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Some old logos[edit]

We could use logos for American Boy Scouts and Lone Scouts of America. The only ABS logo i can find is at http://www.boyscoutstuff.com/Galleries/Other/other.html; it is a shield with ABS and an eagle. The LSA article has a logo, but it is rather low quality. Have fun and thanks, o master of the pixel. --— Gadget850 (Ed) talk - 00:51, 18 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for uploading Image:Spain MEGC.svg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Image copyright problem[edit]

Thanks for your uploads. You've indicated that the following images are being used under a claim of fair use, but you have not provided an adequate explanation for why they meet Wikipedia's requirements for such images. In particular, for each page an image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for each article the image is used in.
  • That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.

Thanks for uploading File:San Diego-Imperial Council CSP.png. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
