Always cite reliable published sources[edit]

Be careful when editing to maintain source-text integrity. If you change the text, be sure the cited source supports your change, or cite a reliable source that does.

In Prostitution in Bangladesh, for example, it's ok to write something along the lines of "it is highly disrespected in Bangladeshi societies" and leave the attribution to Huda, because one of the things Huda says is, "... dissuade the prostitutes from attending the seminar on grounds of defiling the sanctity of the hall as respectable people will be attending ... prostitutes, who are most despised in society ..."

However, changing the text to "as Bangladesh is a socially-conservative country" is not ok, because you cite no source that (a) says Bangladesh is a socially-conservative country and (b) says that social-conservatism is a reason that Bangladeshi society looks down on prostitutes. It is an especially bad change when you modify the text and leave in place the citation that supported the previous text, but does not support your change. Doing so violates one of the five pillars of Wikipedia - verifiability.

Your change has been partially reverted so that the text remains verifiable and is not the personal interpretation of a Wikipedia editor. --Worldbruce (talk) 15:45, 28 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

February 2017[edit]

Information icon Hello, I'm Justeditingtoday. I noticed that you recently removed some content from Republic of Singapore Navy without adequately explaining why. In the future, it would be helpful to others if you described your changes to Wikipedia with an accurate edit summary. If this was a mistake, don't worry; the removed content has been restored. If you would like to experiment, please use the sandbox. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thanks.
