RUDYPL

Hi, in relation to "Kamiel Van Belle" of Belgium" speedy deletion nomination. I have just started this article which is in my opinion a very important one as it will give the story of my Great Grandfather whom was instrumental in flooding the Flanders fields in Belgium during the 1st World War, as such holding the German forces progressing further into France. His participation was only 30-40 years later recognised and although this is now known,I want to let everyone around the world that he was a hero. Maybe I should have used the 'sandbank' first instead of diving straight into it. So, I do not object you deleting the page. As I am bilingual, I will (if allowed)also issue a translation of that page in Flemish (Dutch).

Rudypl (talk) 13:43, 15 December 2016 (UTC)Rudypl (talk) 18:28, 13 December 2016 (UTC)Rudypl

@Rudypl:. Thanks for your contributions. In this particular case, I requested the deletion, as there was no indication as to why the flooding was important. In addition, the fact that you state he is your Great Grandfather may raise an issue. Have you looked at WP:COI? You may also want to look at WP:YFA. Killer Moff (talk) 13:51, 15 December 2016 (UTC)

Hi,

related to "Speedy deletion nomination of SEMERGY". The article iswritten according to the guidelines of wikipedia. Why is this article marked for deletion while thousands of other software descriptions (written in a promotional way without any scientific references) are not? see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Software including all subpages, such as https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Calendaring_software

Contr729 (talk) 12:40, 11 October 2016 (UTC)

@Contr729: Hi, I nominated this largely because of the way it reads. Setting up a problem and then introducing the solution is an advertising technique, not an encyclopedia. The articles you cite all begin with a description of the product, not half way down. Combined with the lack of citations for the majority of the article, I made a judgment call. Hello,

I was trying to submit the entry to portuguese Wiki but if it will be translated somehow and remain in both Wiki's, that's okay. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ajoaomartins (talkcontribs) 09:11, 5 July 2016 (UTC)

Omar hoftun

Hello

You can't delete a plant species page with Taxobox as no one has ownership or rights to a species name but most of the text can be deleted if it breaks infringes on ownership rights, but before deleting anything one should consult Wikipedia experts with experience making plant species pages and have expertise about ownership rights and rights to refer to certain chapters from a book and some rights owners aren't so stringent as they are nonprofit organizations like educational institutions. You could contact the Wikipedian Ruigeroeland as he has much expertise in this field.

Hi

Please allow me to have some time to add more details on the page Awesummly. In coming days, I will be adding more information. I thank you for your understanding.

I won't be making the final decision on your article, as I'm not an admin. However, I won't be removing the Speedy deletion tag as I still see no evidence as to why the article meets notability. Please feel free to keep working to improve it, as that will help avoid deletion. Killer Moff (talk) 14:33, 20 July 2016 (UTC)

Sharing Needles with Friends

I'm not certain how a page that states actual cited information and facts about a company & podcast warrants a "speedy deletion". How is the page a violation? It is not JUST a podcast. Perhaps read my links and sources first? — Preceding unsigned comment added by TheMarStarr (talkcontribs) 19:57, 20 July 2016 (UTC)

I tagged it as the sources did not appear to be reliable secondary sources. Killer Moff (talk) 08:27, 21 July 2016 (UTC)

Carnforth

Hi Killer Moff

Ref your comment:

"Hello, Carnforth. I wanted to let you know that I’m proposing an article that you started, Elaine Kazimierczuk, for deletion because it's a biography of a living person that lacks references. If you don't want Elaine Kazimierczuk to be deleted, please add a reference to the article."

The article I just created on Elaine Kazimierczuk doesn't contain references but she is a published author and the ISBN numbers are verifiable. The web is not 100% pervasive and worthwhile things exist that do not (currently) have online references to support them. Which is why I created the article!

It isn't a 'biography' page as I understand the term and there are other similar pages on Wikipedia that lack references.

So, I respectfully request that you do not delete the article.

Best

Carnforth — Preceding unsigned comment added by Carnforth (talkcontribs) 15:40, 1 August 2016 (UTC)

Hi, thanks for getting in touch. I understand where you're coming from on this, but sadly, as the article is about a living person, it must adhere to WP:BLP. You may also want to have a look at WP:GNG.
As for the references, it doesn't have to be from the web. Has she been spoken about in a newspaper, a magazine, a book? As long as it's a reliable, third party source, it's good enough. Once anybody adds a reference, then you can remove the deletion tag yourself, but I'll be more than happy to at that stage!Killer Moff (talk) 16:04, 1 August 2016 (UTC)

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Gajab dunia requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person, a group of people, an individual animal, an organization (band, club, company, etc.), web content, or an organized event, but it does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. ==

@Noofeelim: Thanks for reaching out. Unfortunately I don't think I can help. I've had a Google, not found anything that's reliable third party sources. You might want to consider contacting other editors involved in Dutch music, see if they can help. I'd be surprised if there isn't an article in a Dutch magazine somewhere, but it may be a case of too soon in his career for him to have a Wikipedia article. Sticky-backed plastic

User:RHaworth redirected Sticky-backed plastic based on your speedy-delete tag, which I believe was added in error. I've reverted their change, and now moved the article to self-adhesive plastic sheet to make the distinction clearer. I've put a full explanation of why I've done this on RHaworth's talk page. -- Markshale (talk) 10:11, 6 August 2016 (UTC)

@Markshale: Fair enough, I don't think I caught the distinction first time. You may want to add some of the talk page info, such as about the flooring, into the main article to make it clearer too. For me, I focuses on the Blue Peter usage as sticky backed plastic, and was immediately struck that we had to have an article on non brand Sellotape already. Killer Moff (talk) 10:20, 6 August 2016 (UTC)
Thanks. The article was under-written, and I can absolutely see why you might not have caught the distinction -- I've added a bit more material to the article to make the distinction clearer. -- Markshale (talk) 10:22, 6 August 2016 (UTC)

Information icon Hello Killer Moff. Thanks for patrolling new pages – it's a very important task! I'm just letting you know, however, that you shouldn't tag pages as lacking context (CSD A1) and/or content (CSD A3) moments after they are created, as you did at Rohanmalhotra. It is also suggested that pages that might meet CSD A7 criteria not be tagged for deletion immediately after they are created. It's usually best to wait at least 10–15 minutes for more content to be added if the page is very short, and the articles should not be marked as patrolled. Tagging such pages in a very short space of time may drive away well-meaning contributors, which is not good for Wikipedia. Attack pages (G10), blatant nonsense (G1), copyright violations (G12) and pure vandalism/blatant hoaxes (G3) should of course be tagged and deleted immediately. Thanks. -- samtar talk or stalk 11:06, 12 August 2016 (UTC)

I ended up moving the page to the draftspace and deleted the above mentioned page. Please do take time to try to help new editors out, we were all new once! Let me know if you have any questions, and thank you for all your contributions to the project, they are appreciated -- samtar talk or stalk 11:12, 12 August 2016 (UTC)
@Samtar: Thanks, guess I got a little eager on that one. Killer Moff (talk) 11:20, 12 August 2016 (UTC)

Can you remove the speedy deletion tag for Beacon Reader? The article has a wide range of reliable sources to use to build up the page as significant and notable. These are listed on the talk page. Travelmite (talk) 09:22, 25 August 2016 (UTC)

The article has now had the speedy deletion tag removed. The article was 20 minutes old and still being worked upon, when you inserted the tag. This caused at least one hour of interruption, preventing the article from being developed, and a lot more frustration. Travelmite (talk) 22:15, 25 August 2016 (UTC)
@Travelmite: Hi, thanks for your comments, and for working to improve the article. When I tagged it, it wasn't a piece which I felt was in as good shape. As for the 20 minutes, articles can be worked on in draft space before they're ready to submit. New article creation goes on at a fantastic rate, and I have no way of knowing what's being worked on, and what's being posted in what's considered a finished state. I'd also like to point out that the article was developed while the tag was in place, to a point where it was no longer needed. Killer Moff (talk) 05:34, 26 August 2016 (UTC)
What is your process that you can make a call like that based on so many unknowns? I'm sure I had the NYT ref in. Press the random article button and you will see one fifth of articles don't make the cut, with random people, unremarkable music albums and small companies based on no reliable sourcing and they've been sitting there for years. [more:] I've rechecked the speedy deletion criteria and A7 means no claim of importance. It is meant to catch people and companies that have done nothing of importance. Otherwise the standard deletion applies. The criteria says that you don't even need to provide a source. But I can see it's tricky. Travelmite (talk) 06:51, 27 August 2016 (UTC)
@Travelmite: In this case, as in every case, I base it on the article in front of me. For web based and companies I tend to be a lot stricter, as there's a greater tendency for non-notables. A quick check of the article history shows the NYT ref wasn't up yet. Had it been, I probably would have added a few tags and categories and continued new page patrolling. I find working on new pages better than random, as there's an increased likelihood that it'll be picked up for improvement. As I'm not an admin, I generally prefer to leave the tag on for a second opinion. In this case, it was gone by the time I got back to the page anyway. Hope that's clarified my original decision. Killer Moff (talk) 08:20, 27 August 2016 (UTC)
It seems like a nightmare! But from my point of view was as though several hours of work was seconds away from permenant deletion. OK, thanks for replying. Travelmite (talk) 19:47, 28 August 2016 (UTC)

@Nsk92: Having tagged it as uncategorized, which set it as patrolled, you then removed the tag, even though there were still no categories. it looked like the patrol had been in error. Killer Moff (talk) 12:54, 8 September 2016 (UTC)

@Hollyeighteen:. I'm afraid the problem is that much of the material you've taken appears to be extremely closely based on copywrited sources. @Argento Surfer:, thanks. My initial reason for the PROD was that there were no reliable third party sources. As it stands, that matter has now been addressed. I'm not sure if there's enough there now to merit it's own article, but I'll see if there's any more work done over the next wee while. Failing that, I'll try and propose a merge before the end of the year. --Killer Moff (talk) 13:10, 22 November 2016 (UTC)

User group: New Page Reviewr

Hello Killer Moff/Archive2017.

Based on the patrols you made of new pages during a qualifying period in 2016, your account has been added to the "New page reviewers" user group, allowing you to review new pages and mark them as patrolled, tag them for maintenance issues, or in some cases, tag them for deletion. The list of articles awaiting review is located at the New Pages Feed.

New page reviewing is a vital function for policing the quality of the encylopedia, if you have not already done so, you must read the new tutorial at New Pages Review, the linked guides and essays, and fully understand the various deletion criteria. If you need more help or wish to discuss the process, please join or start a thread at page reviewer talk.

  • Be nice to new users - they are often not aware of doing anything wrong.
  • You will frequently be asked by users to explain why their page is being deleted - be formal and polite in your approach to them too, even if they are not.
  • Don't review a page if you are not sure what to do. Just leave it for another reviewer.
  • Remember that quality is quintessential to good patrolling. Take your time to patrol each article, there is no rush. Use the message feature and offer basic advice.

The reviewer right does not change your status or how you can edit articles. If you no longer want this user right, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. In case of abuse or persistent inaccuracy of reviewing, the right can be revoked at any time by an administrator. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 01:34, 19 November 2016 (UTC)

ArbCom Elections 2016: Voting now open!

Hello, Killer Moff. Voting in the 2016 Arbitration Committee elections is open from Monday, 00:00, 21 November through Sunday, 23:59, 4 December to all unblocked users who have registered an account before Wednesday, 00:00, 28 October 2016 and have made at least 150 mainspace edits before Sunday, 00:00, 1 November 2016.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2016 election, please review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 22:08, 21 November 2016 (UTC)

New Page Review - newsletter

Hello Killer Moff/Archive2017,
Breaking the back of the backlog
We now have 812 New Page Reviewers! Most of you requested the user right to be able to do something about the huge backlog. Now it's time for action.
Mid July to 01 Oct 2016

If each reviewer does only 10 reviews a day over five days, the backlog will be down to zero and the daily input can then be processed by each reviewer doing only 2 or 3 reviews a day - that's about 5 minutes work!
Let's get that over and done with in time to relax for the holidays.

Second set of eyes

Not only are New Page Reviewers the guardians of quality of new articles, they are also in a position to ensure that pages are being correctly tagged for deletion and maintenance and that new authors are not being bitten. This is an important feature of your work. Read about it at the new Monitoring the system section in the tutorial.

Thanks — Preceding unsigned comment added by Kyanev (talkcontribs) 16:11, 13 December 2016 (UTC)

Hi @Kyanev:. I've had another look at the page and tagged it accordingly. Have you looked at any WP:YFA for help on how to improve the page?Killer Moff (talk) 16:47, 13 December 2016 (UTC)
Hi @Killer Moff: Thank you, I have read some explanations and also watched some videos. Could you please have a quick new look at the page of Mr Andrey Novakov. I did my best and think that now it looks better. Regarding references, I tried to find my the most relevant ones on the net. I don't think honestly that there might be others better than them.

Thanks and regards,

Declined speedy deletion nomination of The Last Podcast on the Left

Hello Killer Moff. Speedy deletion work is important and I do appreciate the effort. I would just ask that you please review the criteria carefully because accuracy is also important. On that issue, I have declined your speedy deletion nomination of The Last Podcast on the Left as an article that does not credibly indicate the importance or significance of the topic under CSD A7. That criterion did not apply because being hosted by a notable person is a credible indication of "importance or significance". Remember that CSD A7 is a lower standard than what is required to demonstrate notability – it does not, for example, require that the article's text already contain citations to reliable sources that would be necessary to prove notability, but only that it contain a claim that, were it true, might reasonably make the subject a valid encyclopaedia topic (if proper sourcing could later be found). Adam9007 (talk) 22:01, 14 December 2016 (UTC)

Hi @Adam9007:, thanks for bringing this up. I'm not quite sure how this applies in relation to the idea that Notability is not inherited. Surely the involvement of a notable person is not enough, if there are no other sources. I appreciate that I may be being a bit loose in my application, but any guideline or advice would be appreciated. Thanks. Killer Moff (talk) 10:27, 15 December 2016 (UTC)
You're right in that the connexion alone does not automatically make it notable, but if you look at it from a "could reliable third party sources exist?" perspective, such a claim is indeed significant, because the answer is yes, and that's what significance is about. In other words, WP:NOTINHERITED does not mean that such a connexion cannot cause the subject to be notable. This is my tuppence on the subject, and I also recommend reading WP:A7M. As per WP:FAILN, a close connexion means the article could be merged instead of deleted if not notable. Adam9007 (talk) 22:02, 15 December 2016 (UTC)

Married to medicine

I created those pages, because me and another use agreed that each season needs their own individual page. I created the pages so that he could finish them off. You could if you wanted to. Zhyboo (talk) 16:39, 19 December 2016 (UTC)

Joker (character) nominated for deletion

You are invited to take part at the deletion discussion at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Joker (character). DarkKnight2149 23:11, 8 January 2017 (UTC)

Inhumans articles

I heard that you are calling for deletion to some articles of the Inhumans like Eldrac, Ulysses (where the character Ulysses Cain played a big part in the Civil War II storyline), Iso, Flint, and Haechi (who is a supporting character of the New Warriors comics). Especially since the latter three had their first media appearances in Avengers Asemble. If you want other contributors' opinions on this, perhaps you can start an AFD for them. --Rtkat3 (talk) 16:24, 30 January 2017 (UTC)

@Rtkat3:. Hi, thanks for commenting. I don't think it matters where they first appears, but it does that there are no reliable third party sources for most of them. Perhaps a merging into a list of Inhumans, removing most of the plot detail? Killer Moff (talk) 16:33, 30 January 2017 (UTC)
Though Aireo was placed in the A page of the List of Marvel Comics characters like they did with minor appearances for the Inhumans Gordon, Jaiying, and Raina. Though we'd have to find the third party sources for them first if their deletion is to be called off. --Rtkat3 (talk) 17:05, 30 January 2017 (UTC)

Speedy deletion contested: Johnny Orlando

Hello Killer Moff. I am just letting you know that I contested the speedy deletion of Johnny Orlando, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: Too hastily tagged. . Thank you. Class455 (talk|stand clear of the doors!) 14:05, 2 February 2017 (UTC)

As the article has an under construction tag on it, its best to wait and see if any notable content appears and then tag for deletion rather than tagging it straight away for deletion. I'm aware of the previous AfD but something may have become notable of the person since then.If it still fails GNG, then you may tag it for deletion. Thank you. New Page Review - newsletter No.2

Hello Killer Moff/Archive2017,
A HUGE backlog

We now have 812 New Page Reviewers!
Most of us requested the user right at PERM, expressing a wish to be able to do something about the huge backlog, but the chart on the right does not demonstrate any changes to the pre-user-right levels of October.

Hitting 17,000 soon

The backlog is still steadily growing at a rate of 150 a day or 4,650 a month. Only 20 reviews a day by each reviewer over the next few days would bring the backlog down to a managable level and the daily input can then be processed by each reviewer doing only 2 or 3 reviews a day - that's about 5 minutes work!
It didn't work in time to relax for the Xmas/New Year holidays. Let's see if we can achieve our goal before Easter, otherwise by Thanksgiving it will be closer to 70,000.

Second set of eyes

Remember that we are the only guardians of quality of new articles, we alone have to ensure that pages are being correctly tagged by non-Reviewer patrollers and that new authors are not being bitten.

Abuse

This is even more important and extra vigilance is required considering Orangemoody, and

  1. this very recent case of paid advertising by a Reviewer resulting in a community ban.
  2. this case in January of paid advertising by a Reviewer, also resulting in a community ban.
  3. This Reviewer is indefinitely blocked for sockpuppetry.

Coordinator election

Kudpung is stepping down after 6 years as unofficial coordinator of New Page Patrolling/Reviewing. There is enough work for two people and two coords are now required. Details are at NPR Coordinators; nominate someone or nominate yourself. Date for the actual suffrage will be published later.

Hello, Baskervill. I wanted to let you know that I’m proposing an article that you started, Akif Alizadeh, for deletion because it's a biography of a living person that lacks references. If you don't want Akif Alizadeh to be deleted, please add a reference to the article.

If you don't understand this message, you can leave a note on my talk page.

Thanks,

Killer Moff (talk) 13:13, 17 February 2017 (UTC)

Hello, Killer Moff firstly thanks for your understanding. The official site has source of President of Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences. This page was prepared during the information on this site. This source is not enough? Please help me, I do not want delete this page, because Akif Alizadeh very important person for Azerbaijani sience. Thanks.--Baskervill (talk) 15:19, 17 February 2017 (UTC)

Thanks again. Resources related to the subject are usually in Azerbaijani language. I am looking foreign sources for page. --Baskervill (talk) 16:53, 17 February 2017 (UTC)

New Page Review - newsletter No.3

Hello Killer Moff/Archive2017,

Voting for coordinators has now begun HERE and will continue through/to 23:59 UTC Monday 06 March. Please be sure to vote. Any registered, confirmed editor can vote. Nominations are now closed.

Still a MASSIVE backlog

We now have 812 New Page Reviewers but despite numerous appeals for help, the backlog has NOT been significantly reduced.
If you asked for the New Page Reviewer right, please consider investing a bit of time - every little helps preventing spam and trash entering the mainspace and Google when the 'NO_INDEX' tags expire.

Inhumans articles 2

I heard you merged some of the Inhumans articles for the same reasons. For those that were proposed for merge, I was able to start a discussion for them on the talk pages of the character pages for their respectful letters. I'm just letting you know that. --Rtkat3 (talk) 14:56, 14 March 2017 (UTC)

@Rtkat3: Wasn't intending to step on any toes here, just noted that the merge tags had been placed for over a month with no objections, so was being bold about it. --Killer Moff (talk) 15:26, 14 March 2017 (UTC)
By your next merge proposal, I propose that you should start a merge discussion to get a consensus on the vote to merge or not to merge. I'm just making a suggestion here. --Rtkat3 (talk) 15:49, 15 March 2017 (UTC)

Your revert

Kindly explain your personal notability criteria. --Webmgr (talk) 22:58, 22 March 2017 (UTC)

For one thing, having a better source than the companies own website. Third party reliable sources, is I feel, the important aspect. --Killer Moff (talk) 00:19, 23 March 2017 (UTC)

New Page Review - Newsletter No.4

Hello Killer Moff/Archive2017,

Since rolling out the right in November, just 6 months ago, we now have 812 reviewers, but the backlog is still mysteriously growing fast. If every reviewer did just 55 reviews, the 22,000 backlog would be gone, in a flash, schwoop, just like that!

But do remember: Rather than speed, quality and depth of patrolling and the use of correct CSD criteria are essential to good reviewing. Do not over-tag. Make use of the message feature to let the creator know about your maintenance tags. See the tutorial again HERE. Get help HERE.

Stay up to date with recent new page developments and have your say, read THIS PAGE.
