Pre-season case for NBA game log start
I messed with Template:NBA game log start to add pre-season, but I screwed something up, I know nothing about coding, it works, but a few things are off. I tried to get it to enter 2010-11 season while showing "2010 pre-season game log", but it shows 2009-10. If you can fix any of this up or tell me how to do it, would be appreciated. - I wrote, "Exclude parentheses from italics" in the summary of my first edit on the template, which means articles that pass parentheses into {{{season_name}}} should not have the parentheses italicized. I didn't believe any discussion was necessary because that alone isn't controversial, and is already implemented in {{Italic title}}. The only problems arose when an article passed a link containing parentheses, which shouldn't even exist and only appeared in a small subset of transcluding articles. Next time, I will add a tracking category beforehand and correct any user errors before implementing code where there is a risk of injection. —LOL T/C 01:32, 10 February 2011 (UTC)

Senna
I don't think you can class the recent difference of opinion between Bcperson89 and other editors as an edit war, but in any case, I'm not quite sure what kind of evidence you need that the place of Senna's death is notable. It was a highly questionable death at a motor racing circuit during a high profile event, a death so notable that it has its own article, somewhat rare among deaths of notable people. Senna is also the most notable person ever killed at a racing circuit. I think it's clear that the place of his death is fundamental to the notability of his death. It would then look awkward to exclude the place of birth from that section, but even so, Senna was one of the most notable Paulistas, if not the most notable; and his Sao Paulo connection was such that a million Paulistas attended his funeral in the city. - You've said that you don't think the place of his death is relevant to his notability, but you haven't given your reasons for that. Why is the circuit itself irrelevant to his death? To me, it's quite obvious, if only for the fact that the circuit itself was/is under question of the possibility of having caused his death. Given that the guideline implies that there are circumstances under which a place of death can be considered notable, and relevant to the subject's notability, what do you think those circumstances might be? Can you give an example? When is a birthplace relevant to a person's notability? I've said why I think Sao Paulo is notably relevant, why do you think it isn't?
- This is complicated by the fact that Senna is widely believed to have died at the circuit (by many including the FIA race doctor in attendance), but due to the vagaries of Italian law, pronunciation of death at a circuit is always avoided, and generally takes place at a nearby hospital, in this case Bologna. Thus there is even a dispute over the place of death, making it even more notable. Senna's death does make the 1994 San Marino Grand Prix worthy of mention in the lead, in the same way as the circuit where it was held is worthy of mention. With respect to him, Michael Jackson's death could have been anywhere - Senna's death, given the nature of the Tamburello corner and the other contributing factors at work at that exact moment, could almost certainly only have happened there, where several other serious accidents had previously taken place. - Playing devil's advocate for a moment, why would JFK's place of death be particularly relevant to his notability? He could have just as effectively been assassinated anywhere. Dallas was certainly no more a factor in JFK's death than Imola circuit was in Senna's. Equally, Capone's birth in Brooklyn was no particular factor in his later life - millions of people born in Brooklyn do not become infamous gangsters, and plenty of gangsters were born elsewhere. In both those cases, according to your line of argument, birth and deathplaces were just minor factors in their subjects' notability. It sounds to me like your objection is to the guideline itself, rather than Senna's particular case. Anyway, given that we do differ, I like your idea of a compromise. I like the sentence you've offered and I think it would work, although if we switched the original word "killed" for "fatally injured", it would make more sense when we say he was pronounced dead elsewhere. That is the official story, so it is very easily sourceable if any other editor objects. Later in the lead, it is mentioned again that he was killed in the accident, and that might be worth removing. In terms of Sao Paulo, I think it's quite lead-worthy that a million people attended his funeral there, so I suggest adding a sentence to that effect somewhere in the lead paragraphs, and we can mention that Sao Paulo was his hometown. Hello, I have a few questions, and I was referred you for help. the 1994 page is small, and it was nominated for deletion (Kept - No-consenus). But then a change in the NAIA Tournament Navbox was made that denotes the reason why the 1944 tournament wasn't held. So I need help re-nominated it for deletion, also, I was told that you could edit the NAIA Men's Infobox to skip 1944 so that 1943 & 1945 don't dead link. - LOL, please don't do anything to the template until the new AfD closes. Not linking to the 1944 article from the 1943 and 1945 years is a unilateral decision at this point. If the second nom of the AfD results in deletion of the 1944 article, then please fix it, but if it's a no consensus or keep, then nothing needs to be done. Thank you. - It's possible, but since "year–year team season" links are used outside of the NBA, it's definitely better to use another template. I'm not aware of any that already do this, so I created {{team season}}. Use {{team season|2008|Los Angeles Lakers}} for 2008–09. List of current UFC fighters
- I have no problem with most of your changes, especially those that simplify coding, that's always helpful, and I'm fine removing capital letters from headings if that's a common wikipedia style thing. As for the Dos to dos in Junior dos Santos, I agree that in most cases it probably shouldn't be capitalized, but as I am taking all fighter names directly, as is, from UFC.com (to prevent confusion between their list of fighters and mine) it will stay Dos. I don't know why they capitalize it, I think it's dumb, but it's easier for me to just have a consistent policy and that's it. - Thanks for letting me know about your stance on the capitalization of "dos Santos". As for the tables format, it's nonstandard to specify an arbitrary background colour, and the wikitable CSS class already darkens headings. Basically, I don't see any good reason to override the wikitable class; if any change should be made, then it should be applied to the entire class and not just a subset of elements that we happen to come across. —LOL T/C 23:27, 5 April 2011 (UTC)
MMA observation
Hello! I've only recently become involved in the MMA articles so I'm not familiar with all the people working on the project but I am wondering something. It appears that a lot of IPs and new/new-ish users (anywhere from 0–200 edits) are making the exact same kinds of edits with regard to this flag icon issue. I'm not saying that they're all one sockpuppet but it does look like there might be some sockpuppetry going on or at least some meatpuppetry (if there's an external site where all this is being discussed). Not sure if anything should be done or what that might be, mainly I'm just curious if my suspicious are warranted. SQGibbon (talk) 19:39, 6 April 2011 (UTC)

The Toronto Raptors are a professional basketball team based in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. They are part of the Atlantic Division of the Eastern Conference in the National Basketball Association. The team was established in 1995, along with the Vancouver Grizzlies, as part of the NBA's expansion into Canada. When the Grizzlies relocated to Memphis, Tennessee in 2001, the Raptors became the only Canadian team in the NBA. Like most expansion teams, the Raptors struggled in their early years; but after the acquisition of Vince Carter through a draft day trade in 1998, the team set league attendance records and made the NBA Playoffs in 2000, 2001, and 2002. After Carter left, Chris Bosh emerged as the team leader. With the appointment of Bryan Colangelo as General Manager and a revamp of the roster for the 2006–07 season, they qualified for their first playoff berth in five years and captured their first division title. In the following season, they advanced to the playoffs again. In a bid to persuade Bosh to stay beyond the final year of his contract, the team had a roster overhaul in the 2009–10 season. Removing notes from boxing records
Hi, I noticed you've been removing notes from the Professional boxing record section of a few boxers. Why do you think things like knockdowns and point deductions should be removed?

- Because knockdowns and point deductions occur frequently (sometimes multiple times in one bout) and only impact a subset of decisions, they don't belong in a concise statistics table; see WP:NOT#STATS. Any noteworthy events should be summarized in the boxer's career section, not the record table. As for the flags, see MOS:FLAG#Do not use subnational flags without direct relevance. —LOL T/C 21:53, 24 May 2011 (UTC)
- I agree with the aim of keeping the notes column concise. Much of what you removed shouldn't have been there, but I think some it is noteworthy. None of those articles were becoming sprawling lists of statistics.

I didn't just replace the subnational flags with national ones because it's time-consuming, they're not very useful, and there's been a motion to remove flag icons from the location columns in a similar sport based on MOS:FLAG (full discussion at WT:MMA#MMA record table problems).

(emphasis added). Can you tell me how is a blank page is supposed to be more helpful than a redirect to the talk page? - It's his choice. If he wants it to be blank - it's his right. OK - maybe on English Wikipedia there are somewhat different standards (maybe I misunderstood, so mea culpa), but in Polish version it's rather *rule* there - userpages should be edited by owners only, unless of course owner permits clearly. Template question
I recently started a discussion in Wikipedia talk:WikiProject College Basketball#Template:College about starting a new template similar to Template:College exclusively for U.S. colleges with links to the college's basketball article (if they exist). I'll be using the #switch function similar to Template:College and Template:NBA color, but it would take some time to write all 360+ schools in there. Since you are more experienced with codes/scripts/programming, I would like to ask for your opinion, is this the best way to create this template? Are there any easier way to do this? - Well, I listed the short school name, full school name, athletics name, and the basketball article links on the excel file. Then I'll use an excel function to automatically write this:

Although, I did refer to MOS:CONSISTENCY- I probably should have referenced MOS:CLEAR: "Except in content with a local focus or where specific localized grammar or spelling is appropriate, or when a precedent has been established and no clear reason has been accepted by a consensus to overturn it, content should be presented from a global view without bias towards any particular culture or group" or MOS:STABILITY: "The Arbitration Committee has ruled that editors should not change an article from one guideline-defined style to another without a substantial reason unrelated to mere choice of style, and that revert-warring over optional styles is unacceptable. Where there is disagreement over which style to use in an article, defer to the style used by the first major contributor."
- The constiency I was refering to was the precedent that has been used for all the prior UFC events.
- I would not object however if you were to change the style of all the prior UFC events that have used this style.

Hiya. Just wondering, is there a way to modify Template:Infobox NBA biography for players like George Gervin, who played in the NBA, ABA, and the overseas leagues? Because the League parameter is tied to the Career statistics section, I'm left with inaccurate or misleading information somewhere in the infobox, no matter what I do. I think it would be best to leave the league parameter blank in Gervin's article, but if I do that, the Career statistics line will say "Career NBA statistics", which doesn't accurately reflect the contents of that section.

MMA style cleanup script suggestions and a request
It's been sometime since I commented on your script mmastylefix.js. So far it has worked quite well, although lately I have found that it has a slower loading time since I activated the Twinkle script. That, however, is not important and I doubt it is related to your script anyway. What I have identified are more possible functions that could be implemented to your script that I consider useful.
- Removing repeated links: A function that removes any repeated wikilink in a MMA record. This would remove any extra links from repeated opponents, locations or events. I imagine that it would not be too difficult to implement.
- Removing red links: A function that removes any link to a non-existent article in a MMA record. This would remove links to non-notable events and fighters. I'm not sure how this could be implemented, though.
- Changing location format, for example, from [[Las Vegas, Nevada|Las Vegas]], [[Nevada]] to [[Las Vegas, Nevada]], [[United States]]: This is a minor tweak but it would be quite useful, particularly auto-adding United States or Canada to several locations that lack country. I wonder why only those countries are the ones that are regularly omitted from location.
On a different note, as you know, I have been working to re-active WikiProject Kickboxing with moderate success. As you offered your help with formatting issues and standardizing tables, if you have the time and will, I would like to ask you to create a template like {{MMA record start}} and similar script for kickboxing records like MMARecordTable. The agreed format is the one at Wikipedia:WikiProject Kickboxing/Guidelines for articles about kickboxers where it says Example kickboxing record. I would like to have something that it's very simple for editors and not that complicated code used in the example. What I have in mind is something like a template that can be easily filled. Using the table record there as an example, I would to have something like this:

Essentially a combination of {{MMArecordbox}} with {{MMA record start}} in a single kickboxing record template that gives the same output as the one in the example kickboxing record. I would like that, with only adding loss, win, draw or no contest, it could automatically add color to the whole row without adding any extra template or instructions. Of course, I understand that creating such a template and a script to implement it is a lot of work, so, I you believe that it is asking too much, I understand. If you decide to help with them, bear in mind that they could end up not being accepted by other kickboxing editors. This is merely my idea to help standardize all kickboxing articles. Please do not blindly revert MMABot's edits. You are reverting changes to articles that have no problems such as with Márcio Cruz.
