Why?

I was just looking at the Metroid category, and now I gotta know: WHY IN HECK IS YOUR USER PAGE THE METROIDVANIA ARTICLE?!?!?

Okay, I'm feeling better. But seriously, that was a bit odd, finding a User under an article category. What's up? --DcPimp 14:15, 19 June 2006 (UTC)

Whoops, I'd forgotten about that.
A couple weeks ago, what is now the Metroidvania article consisted of three different articles: Castleroid, Metroid-style game, and Metroidvania. I used my user page as a staging area to merge them all. Cheers,
Lankybugger 19:28, 19 June 2006 (UTC)

Oh, okay. That makes sense. Those articles did need to be merged. --DcPimp 13:25, 20 June 2006 (UTC)

Sources for Roguelikes

(copied from Garrie's talk page for context)

Hi Garrie,

I see in the AfD for Seven day roguelike that you're looking for items that meet WP:RS. I would suggest using google and combining Roguelike with big-name sources of gaming content like 1UP.com or IGN. Typically you'll find a few items for more esoteric subjects (like Roguelike) that will be less easily challenged as improper sourcing.

Just a thought I had which might help. Cheers, Lankybugger 01:00, 3 January 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for the pointer... As someone who actually follows a few of the rec.games.roguelike.... hierarchy, those games and their regular archive (fan-maintained!) sites are actually the only places I have ever seen roguelike genre mentioned.Garrie 01:30, 3 January 2007 (UTC)

No worries, believe me when I say I understand your feelings precisely. Recently an article on the Metroidvania genre which I was extensively involved in editing was deleted due to an AfD. Good luck with the sourcing. I'd also suggest dropping by this page (a potential Wikipedia policy in the process of being approved) and weighing in with your support for or against it. The gist of it, as I understand things to be right now, is a seperate deletion process for bad articles (like hoaxes and such) and articles which merely lack sources (perhaps such as the Seven day roguelike, though I've had no luck finding sources for it). The articles which lack sources would, under this policy, have a much longer lead time until deletion (specifically, a fourteen day lead time) which would allow a greater chance for unsourced articles to be properly researched and corrected.
Just a thought, ignore it if you like.
Cheers, Lankybugger 05:12, 3 January 2007 (UTC)
The page you pointed me to - I actually support. Because, in essence, it says that even a reference to rec.games.roguelike.development - is a source - maybe not a good one, but it is a source. So it would keep things like seven-day roguelike.
But it would get rid of a lot of public-transport cruft that people like me have been asking for any source on for ages and nobody will provide a source but they always argue in an AfD that a source "can easily be provided" (yet, they never provide them.... )Garrie 05:20, 3 January 2007 (UTC)
Precisely. Essentially the process here is designed not to get rid of articles without sourcing, but to give editors more time to work with the article to bring it up to par. It also seperates those articles which lack sourcing which might otherwise be made useful due to editors with a dedication to the subject from those which have been created and then subsequently abandoned. Lankybugger 05:23, 3 January 2007 (UTC)
BTW - the sites you point me to either 1) carry reviews for commercial games (because they are paid to !) or 2) are fan-submitted reviews which aren't WP:RS...Garrie 05:22, 3 January 2007 (UTC)
As regards 1UP.com, this article would be a legitimate source. 1UP.com is owned by Ziff Davis and is also doubles as the host for online aspects in Electronic Gaming Monthly. The man who wrote the article I linked, Jeremy Parish, is the features editor for the site (and thus he passes by default). Lankybugger 05:25, 3 January 2007 (UTC)
What I mean is they don't review open source games because there's no incentive. And they don't write about challenges related to writing an open source game (the seven-day roguelike).Garrie 05:31, 3 January 2007 (UTC)
Ah, I see what you mean. Yes, this is somewhat true. However, there are plenty of articles (especially on 1UP.com) which are dedicated to non-commercial games. Just as an example (though it doesn't have any Roguelikes I could see), 1UP.com's Freeloader series of articles was dedicated specifically to free games online. There are others, as well. Lankybugger 05:52, 3 January 2007 (UTC)

Rewrite of the plot section of Devil May Cry 2

No problem, glad to pitch in on it, I'll give it a once over. However I can only comment on your writing and can't check your facts since it's the one game in the series I never played. --Boradis 09:48, 7 January 2007 (UTC)

I've skimmed it and my first thought is it's about 2-3 times longer than it needs to be. Your writing is fine, but at that length I don't know who's going to want to read it. This isn't GameFAQS.com after all. I wish there was some consistency amongst the DMC games pages, as DMC(1) has a one-paragraph plot summary (that's really more about the Inferno connection), and DMC3 has none. I can see you put a LOT of work into it, but I fear some of the senior editors and admins of Wikipedia might see it and start tagging it as excessively long. We really don't need to describe every scene, just stuff like where Dante goes, who he fights, that sort of thing -- mention the coin tossing thing, and how little he speaks, for explaining his character differences. For Lucia, a one-sentence character background, and then a few sentences summarizing her plot. I don't know if this is what you wanted to hear, but it's what I think. --Boradis 10:10, 7 January 2007 (UTC)
Ok, I've now familiarized myself with the MGS3 page a bit more, and you're right, its plot is pretty close in length (if about 150 words longer than MGS3). The DMC2 summary is currently 809 words, while the MGS3 summary comes in at 654. Compare these two to the summary for the entire The Lord of the Rings (1579 words), and you see that the DMC2 synopsis is a little over half of that. That strikes me as excessive. Granted, I've never played DMC2, but from what I've heard it's not nearly as long and detailed a story as the combined The Fellowship of the Ring and first half of The Two Towers. Nor does it have (from what I've read about it) nearly as dense and twisty a plot as MGS3, which also has many more characters -- 16 in total, compared to like 3-4 in DMC2. So, yeah, I still think it needs to be condensed. --Boradis 21:29, 7 January 2007 (UTC)
I should add though that your diligence and attention to detail in terms of citing all your facts totally rocks. I've been lazy on that myself, but now I'll be doing more. You've pushed me to step up my game. --Boradis 21:37, 7 January 2007 (UTC)

Arius and Argosax on Characters in DMC page?

Since you're our resident DMC2 expert, could you do up a few paragraphs on these two (one? never played the game, so I'm not sure) villains for the Characters page? I'd do it, but I don't know anything about them. Also, I just trimmed the Lucia entry down to keep it consistent with the others, could you check the facts in there? Thanks!! --Boradis 20:40, 8 January 2007 (UTC)

Jackass2:the game

I overlooked the article of Jackass: The Game, It needs to be cleaned up. Since forums are not considered reliable sources, only use one. so I would advise to take the link off of References. thanks. ClayteX 13:31, 24 January 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for the heads-up. Appears someone nominated but no one responded to the on hold concerns I expressed... If you think you've addressed all the issues, just PM me and I'll just get it to GA so we don't have to go through GAC a second time over 'hold' concerns. Guitar Hero III

Hi Lankybugger,

In regards to your revert of Guitar Hero III, I just want to let you know that it's been reverted back, and why. I specified the reason here.

Happy editing

WikiProject Devil May Cry

Hey there I recently suggested the creation of a new WikiProject based on Devil May Cry, and I was wondering if you might be interested in supporting us, if you are please sing the Interested Wikipedians section on the Devil May Cry entry here, thanks for your time. -Dark Dragon Flame 08:59, 25 February 2007 (UTC)

Regarding Wiki Project Devil May Cry... Thank You for clearing that up. While I agree with your reasoning, there is still enough information (in my opinion) to make a decent project with all the weapons, characters, fighting styles, and mythology behind it, that a task force just won't be enough for.Quatreryukami 16:47, 5 March 2007 (UTC)

You are right. I was actually confused for a second there, I just realized that I am thinking of a seperate wiki for it. My bad. Quatreryukami 17:36, 6 March 2007 (UTC)

Re: Thermopylae

Hi Lankybugger,
Indeed, sorry I had not placed my explanation near the bottom in a new level 2 subtitle. I just decided to use the pre-existing one. Sorry for the confusion caused by my part, but your decision to voice and hear opinions is a much more respected choices of action than edit warring (unfortunately some users still do that here). BTW thanks for updating the Pyrrhic War page. Also if you ever want to build or update an antiquity article and ever want a hand with it, please don't hesitate, and certainly leave me a message in my talk page, I'd love to help out. See ya around!--Arsenous Commodore 14:48, 9 March 2007 (UTC)

DMC2

most welcome, good luck for your GA nom. may pop by the article again. Chensiyuan 17:13, 19 March 2007 (UTC)

Your work on DMC2

The Original Barnstar
I see you managed to succeed in your aim to bring DMC2 to a GA. May this serve as an encouragement to you to make greater contributions to Wikipedia in future. Chensiyuan 17:13, 20 March 2007 (UTC)

Thank you for your kind words. I wasn't expecting reciprocity as I was hoping to encourage you, but it is appreciated nonetheless. I have been through a couple of FA nominations and they are always very tough. Good luck in your endeavours and have fun editing. Chensiyuan 17:24, 20 March 2007 (UTC)

Devil May Cry 2 FAC

You betcha, happy to help! Great job on getting to GA status with it too! --Boradis 20:16, 20 March 2007 (UTC)

i left a question on the DMC2 talkpage. not a big issue, but for your consideration. as for the FAC nom, i have also commented. i believe it's getting there, but let a couple of experienced chaps run through it so that it's a thoroughly safe FA, otherwise in future some folks would come and tear it down and you don't want that. Chensiyuan 01:09, 21 March 2007 (UTC)

Your welcome, and nice work on the article. Thinking about another FA push after this one? — Deckiller 03:58, 21 March 2007 (UTC)

You were about to? Sorry, I was just looking over the changes. :) — Deckiller 03:25, 23 March 2007 (UTC)
I don't see cruft issues, although you might want to trim the gameplay section slightly if possible. I personally like review charts, but that's a matter of taste. — Deckiller 03:32, 23 March 2007 (UTC)

Chararacters of FF8

Thanks a lot :) I hope it'll set a precedent among the community about how we can treat character coverage. — Deckiller 03:54, 22 March 2007 (UTC)

My RfA

Thank you for support in my unsuccessful RfA. I appreciate the support, and am disappointed on being judged by what in most opinions seem to be the wrong things. Until next time, edit on! :) — RevRagnarok Talk Contrib 03:48, 24 March 2007 (UTC)

Devil May Cry 2 a Featured article? you betcha

Hey there congrats in your sucessful nomination, as you can see hard work pays up. Keep it up! - DDF 18:58, 26 March 2007 (UTC)

Just a side note, as you remember about a month ago a propossal was made to make a WikiProject about Devil May Cry, today that became a reality as a Task Force so want to join? DDF 00:10, 27 March 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for your support :) -DDF 03:39, 27 March 2007 (UTC)
Congrats :) — Deckiller 03:46, 27 March 2007 (UTC)
Check out its talkpage :-) — Deckiller 03:49, 27 March 2007 (UTC)
  • Thanks for the support! What's your next FA push? — Deckiller 03:53, 27 March 2007 (UTC)
Gratz from me as well, and more apologies for my comments on the FAC. Tell me when you are bringing the others up!

Looking forward to next nom, Quatreryukami 00:41, 28 March 2007 (UTC)

DDF

Working fast! I just came in from college to find out the Devil May Cry article cleaned up, now about screenshots how about this[1], to show the game scenery? -DDF 17:07, 27 March 2007 (UTC)

I personally like the one with the demon puppets for the Devil May Cry article but I think the other one can be used in Dante's article info box since it shows his face with great detail, my screenshot is basically Dante standing on the outside of the castle (in the area where he fights Nelo Angelo) with the sea and sky as backgound, my idea is to use it to let readers have an idea of the quality of the scenery of the game, when you can see it contact me and tell me what you think, peace. -DDF 17:42, 27 March 2007 (UTC)

Actually, it might be easier for you to just go ahead and upload it to the Wikipedia server. If we don't wind up using it we can always delete it, but that sounds ideal for illustrating the scenery of the game. Cheers, Lankybuggerspeaksee ○ 17:45, 27 March 2007 (UTC)

Done, see here [2]. ---DDF 18:08, 27 March 2007 (UTC)

Edited it a little, How about it now? ---DDF 19:17, 27 March 2007 (UTC)

Not at all I will move it to the article now. --DDF 19:38, 27 March 2007 (UTC)

LOL, you already did it. --DDF 19:40, 27 March 2007 (UTC)

Ok with that out of the way the article resembles what Devil May Cry 2 was like when it was upgraded to Good Article, should it be nominated already or does it need more references? --DDF

Added a few references to Devil May Cry but I can't seem to find what to reference the article itself is short and to me it seems well referenced now, a little help? --DDF 00:03, 28 March 2007 (UTC)

I was kind of curious when you said Devil May Cry Script what exactly did you meant, is there an actual script for the game? 05:23, 29 March 2007 (UTC)

It looks good and it's extremely well referenced, adding enought references for GA nomination, I will nominate it later today or do you think is well enoght already to put it up right now? - 14:09, 29 March 2007 (UTC)

  • P.S. I will check if they also have one of those scripts for DMC 3 to work with it soon.

So the DMC GA nom is up, next stop Devil May Cry 3. - 17:10, 29 March 2007 (UTC)

Yeah I was having a little doubt about the number of featured article of a series that can be nominated in such a short time so I asked an admin, but I guess there will be no trouble in having both of them nominated with a short time between both. Now I will focus on raising Devil May Cry to FA, then DMC 3, Peace. - - 17:34, 29 March 2007 (UTC)

That's what I thought but since finding a full (or a good quantity as in the Final Fantasy series) series raised to FA is something so incredibly hard to find here I thought I better asked to clear the smoke. - 17:45, 29 March 2007 (UTC)

Music

Thanks. We still have a few sections to add, but it might have a shot at FA in the future. — Deckiller 15:33, 30 March 2007 (UTC)
