You accepted GC's nomination, but you never transcluded the RfA on to the main RfA page. --Dylan (chat, work, ping, sign) 23:08, 6 April 2009 (UTC)

Thank you for the kind reminder, Dylan. I'm putting together a syllabus at the moment, and want to make sure I have the time to dedicate to answering all the questions that may be posed at the RfA. Again, your reminder is appreciated. Law shoot! 05:31, 7 April 2009 (UTC)
One minor bit of the transclusion was missed (the spare line) [1] - I've fixed that and whilst I was there supported your request :) - good luck. Pedro :  Chat  11:14, 9 April 2009 (UTC)
No big deal - don't worry about it! Pedro :  Chat  11:41, 9 April 2009 (UTC)
Next RFA? I don't think they'll be a next one - I suspect this one will pass no problems. Pedro :  Chat  12:24, 9 April 2009 (UTC)

File source problem with File:Mcm2.jpg

File Copyright problem
File Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading File:Mcm2.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 18:57, 9 April 2009 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Rockfang (talk) 18:57, 9 April 2009 (UTC)

Thanks Rockfang! I added the source. Please have a look at it! Law shoot! 05:27, 10 April 2009 (UTC)

RfA note

Hey Law, not sure how this happened, but in this edit it looks like you removed one of Geo Swan's questions without responding to it...not sure if there's a reason or if that was just the result of an edit conflict or something. Anyway, just thought I'd let you know, in case it was unintentional.

Also, I left you some more questions. Sorry to inundate you so much...since you have had to answer so many questions already, I don't mind if your answers to mine are pretty short. Mainly I just want to get a feel for your stance on these issues, and see that you have been thinking about them. Best, rʨanaɢ talk/contribs 04:24, 12 April 2009 (UTC)

Sorry to hear that

I did not catch the change on your page. I wish your father be fine soon.--Caspian blue 16:24, 12 April 2009 (UTC)

RFA on hold

I've put your RFA on hold due to your stated RL issues. I hope things in RL work out for you. I felt putting it on hold was the best choice since it'd only run half it's course. When you return, contact myself or another crat, either on talk page or at WP:BN and we can restart your RFA. The simplest and most obvious thing is to restart it and let it run for the remaining 3 days 12 hours, though there are other options. Best regards, RlevseTalk 22:22, 12 April 2009 (UTC)

My condolensces

I'm sorry to hear about your computer and more importantly your father's health. Your father will be in my prayers. Killiondude (talk) 22:51, 12 April 2009 (UTC)

Agreed. Best wishes to your father, Dylan620 Wishes you a Happy Easter! 00:19, 13 April 2009 (UTC)
You are in the thoughts of my family. Best Wishes. Pedro :  Chat  06:51, 14 April 2009 (UTC)
Indeed. Best wishes to you and your family at this troubling time. PeterSymonds (talk) 09:44, 15 April 2009 (UTC)

Everyone has been so premium here. I could not ask for more. My father ended up in the hospital, and my mom collapsed as well. It's difficult to deal with so much. Thanks goes out to everyone. I really mean that. There is a point when RL has a divide from WP friends, but at this point, I would not even discern between the two. The emails, the phone calls - wow. What a great group; not for just accepting me for who I have put out here, but for those who trusted me enough to show that concern. What a great place. Can I say it again? What a great place. Law shoot! 09:58, 18 April 2009 (UTC)

Very sorry to hear about your real life concerns as well, I wish the very best for your parents, and for you. Best of luck in your RfA as well. — Ched :  ?  16:36, 18 April 2009 (UTC)

Your essay

Hey, welcome back. I just edited your User:Law/NOODLE[2]. If you think my edit did not add good for the content, or has incurable grammatical errors, since you're the writer, feel free to revert or fix it. Thanks.--Caspian blue 12:35, 18 April 2009 (UTC)

Any edits and all edits are appreciated. I do not own anything. Improve it! Law shoot! 12:04, 19 April 2009 (UTC)

Your sig

Has anyone commented that it's too small? I find it extemely difficult to read and, in fact, had to hover the cursor over it to see what it said. Would you consider enlarging it a bit? Thanks. Ed Fitzgerald t / c 20:59, 18 April 2009 (UTC)

I have not another complaint about my sig. With over 100 opinions during my rfa, I have to be honest; I am not inclined to change it. If consensus is gathered, I'll modify it. Please feel free to bring this up during my rfa and then I can adequately gather that it may or may not be a problem. I am not discounting you by any means. I am just of the opinion that the squeaky wheel gets the grease when it is a problem. If it is, i'll change it. I'll be happy to revert back to the the default. I will truly do so. In fact, it may be a problem, so I will bring it to another forum. I don't want to be obtuse about it. Thanks. Law shoot! 11:59, 19 April 2009 (UTC)
Please see ANI Ed Fitzgerald t / c 17:01, 19 April 2009 (UTC)
I actually cannot see your signature - I use the blackscreen gadget through "my preferences" as the normal background cause eyestrain. DuncanHill (talk) 17:09, 19 April 2009 (UTC)
@Law, try setting a white background for your sig so it will always be readable even if users change the background color. --Enric Naval (talk) 17:17, 19 April 2009 (UTC)

The link to your talk page in the "shoot!" word is not getting generated by the mediawiki software. Please replace [[User talk:Law|<font color="black">shoot!</font>]] with <font color="black">[[User talk:Law|shoot!]]</font> (placing the font tag outside of the link text). I think that this change would solve that problem and your sig would look the same. --Enric Naval (talk) 17:17, 19 April 2009 (UTC)

@Enric - the talk page link doesn't get generated on the user's own talk page (as here) - that's normal. As far as I can see (not necessarily very far when it doesn't shew up on blackscreen!) it does generate correctly elsewhere. DuncanHill (talk) 17:27, 19 April 2009 (UTC)

Hello, Law! There is a significant rendering issue in Internet Explorer (the most widely used browser) that causes your signature to be difficult or impossible to read. I will attempt to come up with adjusted code that addresses the problem with as little change in other browsers as possible. Okay? —David Levy 18:28, 19 April 2009 (UTC)

Law, please consider switching to the following:

Lawshoot!

This makes the signature only slightly larger in most browsers (which would address the complaints that it's slightly too small) and eliminates the rendering issue in Internet Explorer.David Levy 19:06, 19 April 2009 (UTC)

David: That would certainly alleviate my complaint. Ed Fitzgerald t / c 19:28, 19 April 2009 (UTC)
And is still invisible to those of us who use the blackscreen gadget. DuncanHill (talk) 19:08, 19 April 2009 (UTC)
That's an unrelated issue that I cannot troubleshoot. Can you check to see whether the addition of a white background (suggested above) works? —David Levy 19:13, 19 April 2009 (UTC)
I wouldn't know how to. DuncanHill (talk) 19:16, 19 April 2009 (UTC)
Okay, please let me know me whether the following renders properly:
Lawshoot!
David Levy 19:26, 19 April 2009 (UTC)
No can't see it (without highlighting) DuncanHill (talk) 19:33, 19 April 2009 (UTC)
Am I correct in assuming that the following shows up normally?
Lawshoot!
David Levy 19:46, 19 April 2009 (UTC)
Yes, that looks OK. DuncanHill (talk) 19:47, 19 April 2009 (UTC)
Okay, thanks.
Law, would you mind switching to the above code? Your signature would retain a similar appearance, and this would resolve all of the known accessibility issues. —David Levy 19:59, 19 April 2009 (UTC)

I apologize for being obtuse and firefox-centric. I'm really sorry that my sig cause any problems. I've gone back to the default. Law (talk) 20:18, 19 April 2009 (UTC)

Thank you, Law! I'm a Firefox user too, and I never would have noticed the problem if it hadn't been pointed out. —David Levy 20:25, 19 April 2009 (UTC)
Thank you Law. DuncanHill (talk) 20:27, 19 April 2009 (UTC)
Law: Thank you, I appreciate your action. Ed Fitzgerald t / c 20:46, 19 April 2009 (UTC)

It's kind of cool. I always wanted a unique sig, which I stole from an editor on another wiki. However, seeing as how most people have customized sigs, I suppose in an elliptical way, I once again am unique! Law (talk) 20:50, 19 April 2009 (UTC)

May I suggest Law (courtroom, past trials)? (I've been watching over this discussion, but I've never commented.) --Dylan620 Efforts · Toolbox 21:02, 19 April 2009 (UTC)

Thanks man. I appreciate the time spent on refactoring my sig. I'm just simply not a color guy. Hope you understand that. Again, thanks. Law (talk) 21:15, 19 April 2009 (UTC)

Seen your problems with the sig. Might I suggest something like LawTalk • May 15, 2024 @ 01:50. If you link this to a page like User:Law/Sig and then sign with only three of these ~~~, so you don't get the instant time and date since it is already in the sig. What do you think? Take Care...NeutralHomerTalk • April 20, 2009 @ 06:28
I think it's a good idea. Who would have thunk I'd make so many new friends because my signature was no good, LOL. I might end up doing a hybrid thing, I like your look, and I like Dylan's wording for the related pages. Thanks again! Law (talk) 12:28, 20 April 2009 (UTC)
How about adding "and" between your user page and talk page like "Law and Talk"? :-) --Caspian blue 12:37, 20 April 2009 (UTC)
I like that idea! If I could only add a sound file of the gavel they use on Law and Order. That way, my presence will be known every time I sign a discussion page. Clank Clank! Law (talk) 12:42, 20 April 2009 (UTC)

Preemptive congrats

Barring something radical in the next hour and a half your RFA has clearly passed given the opposers who have implied their opposition is weak and the strength of support. Well done. Now get to work :) Pedro :  Chat  20:44, 21 April 2009 (UTC)

Thanks Mr. Pedro. Your support has not only been influential, but gives me hope that WP:HITNRUN may be the new 'net positive' to which I see so many people pay homage. Law (talk) 02:42, 22 April 2009 (UTC)

An early congratulations from me too, good luck!--Res2216firestar 21:15, 21 April 2009 (UTC)

Firestar, I was nervous about the early congrats, but not coming from such a great crew. Law (talk) 02:42, 22 April 2009 (UTC)
To be fair, I think I hit 100 after the buzzer! Law (talk) 02:42, 22 April 2009 (UTC)r

Your RFA was successful

Congratulations, I have closed your Request for Adminship as successful and you are now a sysop! If you have any questions about adminship, feel free to ask me. Please consider messaging me on IRC for access to the #wikipedia-en-admins channel. Good luck! --Deskana, Champion of the Frozen Wastes 23:13, 21 April 2009 (UTC)

Thanks Deskana. Champion of the frozen wastes? All those Otter Pops I let go as a youth...IRC is not my thing - I suppose being on bulletin boards as a frivolous youth has kept me to Yahoo chat at best ;) Law (talk) 02:39, 22 April 2009 (UTC)
Congratulations! Show us your abilities with the tools :) Best wishes for your family too.--Caspian blue 23:16, 21 April 2009 (UTC)
Thanks Caspian. I'm of course hesitant to use the tools at this point because they are a bit intimidating, but I am going to seek advice on how to practice. Law (talk) 02:39, 22 April 2009 (UTC)
Congrats on your RfA :) Nicely done! - NeutralHomerTalk • April 21, 2009 @ 23:22
Thanks NH. I also appreciate the help with the signature situation. Law (talk) 02:39, 22 April 2009 (UTC)
I went thru teh RfA. I can haz rest nao.
Congratulations! :D Take a moment to read the "congrats!" that will flow in, have a nap, and then get to some admin work (see kittehs). ;) JamieS93 23:26, 21 April 2009 (UTC)
Thanks Jamie. A nap sounds good, but would keep me up all night ;) Law (talk) 02:39, 22 April 2009 (UTC)
Sleeping on the job?! Anyway, congratulations Law! –Juliancolton | Talk 23:36, 21 April 2009 (UTC)
Julian, thanks. I see you all over the place, which convinces me that there are only 2000 editors here, at most. LOL. Law (talk) 02:39, 22 April 2009 (UTC)
Best wishes. We have a lot of vandals who seem to like to mess with criminal law articles. Bearian (talk) 23:27, 21 April 2009 (UTC)
Bearian, what would one expect? I'm only good with tax law however, any other law, I've probably broken. Law (talk) 02:39, 22 April 2009 (UTC)

Congrats! I've bumped you from the DYK non-admins to the admins; hope you don't mind. Shubinator (talk) 23:47, 21 April 2009 (UTC)
Shubinator, that is as great a welcome as I could hope for. I will need help using the trust given to me at DYK. All advice is welcomed! Law (talk) 02:39, 22 April 2009 (UTC)
So too my congrats. In my weak oppose I noted that I imagined that I'd support a future RfA, as nearly I did this one, and I'm not at all unhappy that I'll not have to wait a few months to offer my best wishes. Joe 00:11, 22 April 2009 (UTC)
Joe, that's a very nice thing to hear. I appreciated your oppose, and find this congratulations to be a welcome one. Law (talk) 02:39, 22 April 2009 (UTC)

Thank you. At the moment I cannot thank each one of you personally, as you each deserve, as we are hosting a guest speaker who is very excited about the possibility of mandatory disclosure of nonfinancial data on all corporate quarterly statements. LOL. (I'm basically sneaking this in to say HI and THANKS.) Shhhh. I am not sleeping, but close. Law (talk) 23:52, 21 April 2009 (UTC)

  • So it's too late to change my vote? Congrats Law. ChildofMidnight (talk) 00:42, 22 April 2009 (UTC)
CoM, I have asked my RfA be reopened only for you to change your vote. Perhaps you have more questions? :) Law (talk) 02:39, 22 April 2009 (UTC)
Gratz! - Dan Dank55 (push to talk) 01:33, 22 April 2009 (UTC)
Thanks Dan! Keep an eye on me ;) Law (talk) 02:39, 22 April 2009 (UTC)

I call a do over. I like Jehochman's idea of having "sustained" instead of "Support" or "Did You Know". We could have "overruled" instead of opposes. Oh well, maybe when you run for bureaucrat or Arbcom or something... And I have a LOT more questions. Check out Stone Creek Jamboree by the way. It needs a photo if you can make it! Wikipedia just keeps getting better all the time... ChildofMidnight (talk) 03:17, 22 April 2009 (UTC)

I'm going to assume that sustain was not abstain. He was sustaining the momentum. LOL. And if you want a snapshot of Stone Creek, it is out of my hands. I live in San Diego, CA. I drink at pubs, take pictures of various attributes, and other than that, I would love to travel to take a picture, but I simply can't. :P Law (talk) 04:36, 22 April 2009 (UTC)

I suggested a longer hook in case there's space on the main page. You might want to verify that one too. :) - Mgm|(talk) 10:10, 23 April 2009 (UTC)

Belated congrats on your RFA

Sorry I missed it when you got the mop a few days ago, but congrats. Despite concerns to the contrary, I am quite confident that you have the experience necessary to be a good admin. You will soon find that the job suits you, as though you had always been one. The work you do at DYK will be very similar to the kinds of stuff you end up doing as an admin. Good luck and good day! --Jayron32.talk.contribs 21:55, 25 April 2009 (UTC)

DYK update

I noticed you're around, and a DYK update's due at the bottom of the hour. Want to go for it? The update should be from queue 2. There are instructions at the bottom of the queue for doing an update. The image is already protected at Commons (thanks to Royalbroil!), so you don't need to worry about step 1. Oh, and I can do credits. Shubinator (talk) 22:11, 27 April 2009 (UTC)

Oh Wow. So I cut all from queue 2, and put in the current hooks? Then I follow the instructions... You'll probably have to guide me through it the first time. Law shoot! 22:17, 27 April 2009 (UTC)
Sure, no problem :) Don't cut and paste everything from queue 2, just the part between <!--Hooks--> and <!--HooksEnd--> to the corresponding area in T:DYK. Shubinator (talk) 22:21, 27 April 2009 (UTC)
OK, had that one figured out (a bit of detective work). When does main page get purged and time updated? Law shoot! 22:22, 27 April 2009 (UTC)
Right after you do the update (so now). Shubinator (talk) 22:24, 27 April 2009 (UTC)
Assuming I didn't break anything - it looks like all I have left is to delete this image? Law shoot! 22:38, 27 April 2009 (UTC)
Yeah. Although it's not required, it's best if you could load queue 2 with the hooks from Next so non-admins can assemble sets in Next and Next next. Shubinator (talk) 22:40, 27 April 2009 (UTC)
Woah. I think it's about done! Sets can now be assembled. I think I'll have glass of wine. Law shoot! 22:48, 27 April 2009 (UTC)
Excellent, thank you! For future reference, when you're clearing the numbered queue, replace everything with the "Remove this line" (like this). Overall though, very nice for your first time. Shubinator (talk) 22:52, 27 April 2009 (UTC)
You're not kidding when you say everything, are you. Lol. I'm really glad I could help - it was the main reason I accepted the nom for the bit. Thanks again! Law shoot! 22:59, 27 April 2009 (UTC)
Oops, one small error: the credits weren't transferred when queue 2 was loaded. You can use this old version of Next to load queue 2 with the correct credits. Shubinator (talk) 00:12, 28 April 2009 (UTC)
Is it okay now? Law shoot! 00:18, 28 April 2009 (UTC)
Yep, thanks! Shubinator (talk) 00:20, 28 April 2009 (UTC)
