August 2019[edit]

Welcome to Wikipedia. Because we have a policy against usernames which give the impression that the account represents a group, organization or website, I have blocked this account; please take a moment to create a new account with a username that represents only yourself as an individual and which complies with our username policy or request a change of username.

You should also read our conflict of interest guideline and be aware that promotional editing is not acceptable regardless of the username you choose. Additionally, if your contributions to Wikipedia form all or part of work for which you are, or expect to be, paid, you must disclose who is paying you to edit.

If your username does not represent a group, organization or website, you may appeal this username block by adding the text at the bottom of your talk page.

You may simply create a new account, but you may prefer to change your username to one that complies with our username policy, so that your past contributions are associated with your new username. If you would prefer to change your username, you may appeal this username block by adding the text

at the bottom of your talk page. Please note that you may only request a name that is not already in use, so please check here for a listing of already taken names.

 Thank you.

Request reason:

I am a Professor at U. of Toronto and a Board member of the International College of Prosthodontists (https://www.icp-org.com/leadership.aspx). I volunteered to create our organization's Wikipedia page, similar to other colleges and organizations such as https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_College_of_Prosthodontists. I will appreciate it if you could unblock and allow it to be published so that other members can contribute to this page

Decline reason:

You have not addressed the reason for the block, which is your username. Please follow the instructions in the block notice to propose a new username. You should also review conflict of interest and paid editing. 331dot (talk) 20:18, 17 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Request reason:

Sorry for the trouble. I have managed to change my user name. I read wiki conflict of interest section. This work is not promotional editing, I have no conflict of interests, and I am not getting paid for any editing work. Thanks for your service. Limor

Decline reason:

As per below. You clearly do have a conflict of interest and I'm disappointed you tried to mislead us in this manner. Yamla (talk) 11:09, 19 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

You certainly do have a conflict of interest in editing about the organization for which you are a board member. Wikipedia does not have "organization Wikipedia pages" controlled by those organizations. Wikipedia has articles about organizations shown with significant coverage in independent reliable sources to meet Wikipedia's special definition of a notable organization, written at WP:ORG. Those articles are typically written by independent editors, as Wikipedia has no interest in what an organization wants to say about itself, only in what independent sources state. In order for you to be successful in writing an article about your organization, you would have to forget everything you know about it and only write based on what independent sources state. Most people cannot do that. Is there anything else that you want to edit about? 331dot (talk) 10:13, 19 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

{{unblock | 1= Hi...I do not have any intention to mislead anyone. I am personally not being compensated in any way from this contribution, not even academically. I wanted to contribute to your Wikipedia. I have recently been receiving multiple emails from different companies that I do NOT know offering me to make a Wikipedia page for me for some $100s. When I checked Wikipedia, I realized it is free for anyone to make a contribution so I thought I could perhaps contribute a Wikipedia page describing a unique dental organization, and provide knowledge of which can be beneficial to dentists, prosthodontists, and the general population. I did not think to write about myself. This is a not-for-profit organization that aims to improve the oral health and general health of the global community. It is the only international prosthodontic organization worldwide, and I thought it would be a valuable contribution. I wanted to generate a page similar to below Wikipedia pages of other dental organizations. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_College_of_Prosthodontists https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/International_College_of_Dentists. By the way, the author of the International College of Dentists is a Fellow of this organization, which is logical to me, but as you indicated about me, may have a conflict of interest? But he was not blocked. I spent the whole weekend reading and watching videos on how to generate a Wikipedia page. I ADMIT I MADE SOME ERRORS not because I tried to mislead or cheat anyone, but perhaps because the instructions were complicated for me. I think that now I better understand what I was blocked for, and will not do it again, and trust my contribution will be beneficial for your readers. Thus, I request you to unblock my account and allow me to generate an article on the International College of Prosthodontists. If you do not think I should be the one to initiate such an article, please let me know, and I will not generate it. But please unblock my account so that I can one day contribute to Wikipedia, e.g., trying to correct errors in the websites mentioned above; also of note is that the references of these Wikipedia pages either refer the reader to the organization's websites or provide links that do not work. Thanks for your attension}}. *When making a request, please use the template directly from the block notice(as visible on this page, not in the edit window) and not copying a declined request(which means that your request will not be seen). I have fixed it for you. 331dot (talk) 11:39, 22 August 2019 (UTC) *If you are paid or compensated in any way for your work as a board member, you are a paid editor. Yes, you should not be the one to write about your organization. If, however, there is nothing else that you want to edit about at this time, there is no need to lift the block. You can request unblock once there is something that you want to edit. :Regarding "By the way, the author of the International College of Dentists is a Fellow of this organization, which is logical to me, but as you indicated about me, may have a conflict of interest? But he was not blocked", I'm not sure who you are referring to, but the creator of that page declares that they are in that field(beware to avoid outing other editors publicly). 331dot (talk) 11:45, 22 August 2019 (UTC) .

Request reason:

Can you please let me know what needs to be done to be unlocked? I would like to delete all my entries from the sandbox and talk. thanks

Decline reason:

Procedural decline only. This unblock request has been open for more than two weeks but has not proven sufficient for any reviewing administrator to take action. You are welcome to request a new block review if you substantially reword your request. Yamla (talk) 17:41, 16 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
