Hello, I do not understand why The Oklahoman and the Carbondale Times newspapers do not meet this requirement. I'll keep looking for more sources but I'm unclear as to whether I'm on the right track. Thanks. Liza-shankar (talk) 22:35, 1 December 2023 (UTC)

Sigma Phi Sigma

I moved it to mainspace, it is now at Sigma Phi Sigma (professional). There is a defunct Sigma Phi Sigma Social Fraternity, I'm not sure if that one is primary on the name, the group at the Fraternities and Sororities wikiproject will take a look. That group includes Jax MN and Rublamb and myself. There are other groups where multiple organizations shared a name in Greek Letters, for example: Delta Phi Epsilon (social) and Delta Phi Epsilon (professional).

It does lead to the question whether Sigma Phi Sigma considers itself a Professional Fraternity or an Honor Society, I'm not sure what has been found on that. Thank you, I'm so glad that people who know their way around Wikipedia (better than I ever will) were able and willing to help! I think professional is probably most accurate. At my college, all Funeral Service students are automatic Sigma Phi Sigma and you "only" need a C to remain in the program. So I would guess that classifies it as professional rather than Honor. If you look at the article history, you'll see that Rublamb did most of the work, but frankly, improving articles like this one are the fun part. (Adding the cities and states to a 300+ entry list of chapters, that's the less fun part).Naraht (talk) 00:52, 5 December 2023 (UTC)

Liza, please let us know, either here or on the SPS talk page if you have a source that notes the official colors, national website URL, the actual date of founding (all we know is October of 1965), any titled publication's name even if sporadic, a mailing address for the national organization, and a (public) description of its symbolism. The history of the national organization is quite thin, so there would be room to add the names of the founders along with milestones or junctures as chapters were established. Naraht has helped Rublamb in searching out sources for chapter names, but some are still missing. Your help would be appreciated. Might one of the founders still be alive, and able to provide some correspondence that clarifies the early days? Some organizations place such archived material at the library of the founding or controlling school, thus capturing these records before the demise of those who remember the beginning. Hi, Jax! To my understanding, there is no national website URL, which is why I really wanted to create a Wikipedia page to help fill that void. If you do find a set of original research - a historical summary for example - you may want to as the Archivist at the University of Illinois to keep track of it. Reach them here: University of Illinois - Student Life and Culture Archives. While the Baird's Archive reference tool doesn't specifically track professional fraternities, they likely would take curatorship of their records. Jax MN (talk) 19:55, 10 December 2023 (UTC)
