2 German film articles

Hi Lugnuts: Interesting situation here. So far as I can determine, on the same day, 26 January 2008, you created two articles on German silent films that are in fact the same film: In the Ecstasy of Billions and Dance on the Volcano. Both articles are about Part 2 of a two-parter that is known in German as both Der Fluch der Menschheit (The Curse of Man, created by you on 25 January 2008, but that article is only about Part 1) and Der Tanz auf dem Vulkan. Part 2 is known both as Im Rausche der Milliarden and Der Tod des Großfürsten and Part 1 is known both as Die Tochter der Arbeit and Sybil Young (see German version of Bela Lugosi filmography). At least Part 2 is double-entered at IMDb: Der Fluch der Menschheit -2 and Der Fluch der Menschheit - 2. Im Rausche der Milliarden. There is also a 1938 film called [Der] Tanz auf dem Vulkan, which is what I was expecting when the link turned out to be blue: de:Tanz auf dem Vulkan. Since you created both the articles on Part 2 (and the article on Part 1), what do you think had better be done? My suggestion would be: merge the two Part 2 articles at In the Ecstasy of Billions, which has better sourcing, and I think it ought to be moved to the German title. Create an article on Tanz auf dem Vulkan. Move The Curse of Man to one of the two titles by which Part 1 goes, and make a stub at The Curse of Man on the entire two-parter, giving the alternate title Der Tanz auf dem Vulkan there - then provide a hatnote at the article on the 1938 film pointing to that stub for those seeking the 1920 two-parter or one of its parts (it looks as if Dance on the Volcano was also used in the US for just one of the parts). Question regarding notability

Upon reading the criteria as per Wikiproject:Cricket, I'm honestly somewhat perplexed. Perhaps it is due to my ignorance of the sport of cricket, but it seems to me the idea that any player or umpire since the year 1697 is far too broad; it feels akin to a creation of, say, "Wikiproject:Pokemon", asserting that any and all Pokemon are notable and merit individual articles. RE:Stig Mårtensson

Yes, I've noticed it too. The Davis cup site has his birth date as 1913 not 1923. Although they could be different persons but what is usual and I came across such errors many times is that the pre-WW people birth dates are very uncertain. I really doubt that two socially high classed (an era-specific must) Swedish persons existed who competed in international sports and also can not be related (they couldn't be brothers - same name, couldn't be father-son - 10 years age difference). These people were multi-talented so to say and one all-round sportman practised many types of activity. So I bet it's the same person but I couldn't dig out any more - as of yet. I hope I am not abusing your talk page notice, but I am trying to reinvigorate Wikipedia:WikiProject Requested Articles, which, if I get enough pointers that there is some interest, I will re-design, with a design similar to Wikipedia:WikiProject Guild of Copy Editors, involving drives, to decrease the number of articles listed in the various subpages, and blue link blitzes, involving editors removing all created pages. I am planning, with sufficient interest, to make requested articles 'stricter', i.e. you have to provide two reliable sources, and write a short note explaining why the requested article is notable. There would be a reward system, involving adapted barnstars, similar to the Guild of Copy Editors have here and here. An article with title Fifty Shades of Grey (film) was already exist since May 14 but User:The Vintage Feminist created Fifty Shades of Grey (2014 film) lately on August 12. Can you merge the history or ask someone to do it please, because I've seen this that already existed articles history been merged into lately created. Extra note about this.

• Fifty Shades of Grey (film) used to link to the #Film adaptation section of Fifty Shades of Grey (an article about the novel).
• I created a daughter article from that section which became Fifty Shades of Grey (2014 film).
• User:Captain Assassin! sent me this message (which he has since edited) saying that the article already exists as Fifty Shades of Grey (film).
• I placed a "main article" hat note in the original Fifty Shades of Grey#Film adaptation section.
• I checked to make sure that Fifty Shades of Grey (film) redirects to Fifty Shades of Grey (2014 film).
• The only problem with the Fifty Shades of Grey (2014 film) article that I can see now is the talk page for the article seems to have gone from Fortdj33's last revision to now being completely blank.
• I'm not sure that there is anything useful in the history of Fifty Shades of Grey (film) that needs to merge into Fifty Shades of Grey (2014 film)'s history, and I didn't think it would be possible to extract the film adaptation section's history from the novel's article (which I think is what Captain Assassin! is actually after).

• Hi Lugnuts, would you please do me a huge favor and instruct this muppet not to interfere with page moves. He turned a straightforward procedure into an absolute clusterfuck today. Fifty Shades of Grey (film) was and always has been a redirect. A new article was created by User:The Vintage Feminist at Fifty Shades of Grey (2014 film) on August 12. Yesterday, User:Captain Assassin! carried out a cut paste move by copying all the content from Fifty Shades of Grey (2014 film) to Fifty Shades of Grey (film) so I reverted it. As per WP:NCF#Disambiguation the article should indeed be at Fifty Shades of Grey (film) (so he at least got that part right), so I nominated the redirect at Fifty Shades of Grey (film) for deletion under G6, so Fifty Shades of Grey (2014 film) could be article moved to Fifty Shades of Grey (film). This tool went and recreated the article so the move couldn't go ahead. I therefore nominated it a second time, only for him to remove the deletion notice and turn it back into a redirect. Thankfully User:Bgwhite stepped in and moved the article to where it should be, but please please please tell Captain Assassin not to carry out "cut and paste" moves, and that it is not necessary to carry out a history merge on a page that has only ever been a redirect! You didn't create an article, you created a redirect at Fifty Shades of Grey (film) a few months ago. User:The Vintage Feminist created the article in her userspace (as can be clearly seen from the edit history), and then moved it to Fifty Shades of Grey (2014 film). By cutting and pasting her work that effectively removes her authorship, which is legally and ethically wrong. The correct procedure was to delete your page-hogging redirect and move her article to the right page, as a I explained in the edit summaries, on my own talk page and at the Film project talk page. WP:SAL

Lugnuts, I believe you may be misquoting or misunderstanding WP:SAL. It's certainly not true that every item in every list needs to meet WP:N. That's simply one of the common selection criteria. Those criteria can be helpful for lists not about a finite set of things, such as List of individual dogs, though note that that list doesn't meet either of the common selection criteria listed at SAL; some of the dogs have articles, while many others never will. Your interpretation, at least, directly contradicts WP:NLISTITEM. Do you believe all song lists, or all song lists including songs that don't themselves meet N, should be deleted? By the arguments you've advanced at several recent AfDs, it would seem you'd want to have some featured lists deleted as well. --BDD (talk) 19:20, 15 August 2013 (UTC)

Lists

Not often you and I find ourselves on opposite sides of an AFD!! I understand your way of thinking with the lists, and a lot of lists do appear to be pure cruft on here, I tried to delete Pokemon and manga list cruft a while back and encountered a strong resistance to deletion. However, lists like this are generally widely accepted on here and even encouraged. The Lata list though is sort of like the Indian equivalent to List of Beatles songs or List of Elvis Presley songs. OK, most of Lata's songs are not as famous as any of their songs in the west, but all of the songs don't need to be really notable in their own right to be included in the list and a complete list of works by subjects is encouraged in the guidelines on here for comprehension's sake. I agree that the lists need a lot of work to become "encyclopedic" though but I'm convinced that deletion at least for Lata and Kumar isn't the best way to go about improving things. I'd appreciate if you didn't leave patronizing messages like this on my talk page. I've been editing for more than four years and I am well aware of many of our wikipedia editing policies. Per WP:NFILMS, it discusses that coverage needs to be significant from reliable sources. I said in my edit summary that the page should be remade when there is more information about the release, but that a cast list alone is not notable. I also cited WP:GNG. You have reverted yet given no reasons for reverting. Not only do I find that rude, but I also find it insulting. By the way, removing the {{notability}} tag and citing WP:POINTY was rather inappropriate. I pointed out the guideline and said IMO its not notable. Some times, the year may not be unknown at all, just missing from the article. If it is then marked with Category:Year of birth unknown, no one may bother looking for a year of birth, even if it is just missing and could be added by some one with access to better information were that year could be found and added to the article. In that way, the article may never be improved in regard to that. So perhaps it would be better to use the Category:Year of birth missing? Unless of course you know it is truly unknown. If you have no acknowledge of the information about that connection, I will tell you that the novella Twenty-Four Hours in the Life of a Woman written by Stefan Zweig has a numbers of film adaptaions and this little marking takes attention to the disambiguation page and helps the Readers to inform them about these living connections among the articles.
