Bibliography of Terry Bisson[edit]

Since Bisson isn't dead yet, a bibliography is of necessity going to remain incomplete. I'd advise you to start by looking at the Bisson listing in the Internet Speculative Fiction Database which latter is maintained by at least one fan who also used to be a pretty active Wikipedia editor, Ahasuerus. Note that we are not trying to do a mere data dump from the ISFDb; what matters is listing the important (award-winners and nominees; firsts; critical acclaim) works by the subject. --Orange Mike | Talk 21:00, 9 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Will you be attending Chattacon, WisCon, Chicon or ICON (the Iowa one) this year? We could chat in person. --Orange Mike | Talk 21:23, 9 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks Orange Mike. Won't make the conventions (in NZ), and have found another Wikipedia page to contribute to. Cheers, Matt M G Webster (talk) 20:56, 24 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Weapon of Choice[edit]

Hi there, thank you for having a go at this article. If you'd like to discuss how to get it through article creation process or some help with it then please don't hesitate to contact me. Someoneanother 12:09, 30 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Someoneanother I posted a first attempt and the feedback was to provide more reasons/evidence for the article to be included in WP. Can you see it under my contributions or is there a way I can send a link? Could you suggest anything to help get it accepted?
I can see the article. I think what's being asked for is more information and more sources (inline citations are best on WP). If you would like me to use a website citation template I can show you how to fill one out for the sources. Thanks very much for what you've done - if you're not sure how to expand it further then let me know and I'll do what I can. Someoneanother 03:55, 9 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Hi thanks Someoneanother – could you show me how to use the citation template you mentioned? Appreciate any help you can give. Cheers M G Webster (talk) 03:46, 20 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hello there MG, I've tweaked the article for creation with edit summaries (click on 'view history' to see my reasoning. What I've done with the references is switched to inline citations (IE citations within the article text to back up particular claims within the reception), using 'cite web' tags. Now there are a few ways to cite within articles, some of which are basically the method you were using, but with the the references tagged within the article text. I'm a layman, and a lot of this technical stuff goes right over my head, so I stick with what I know, hence the change. The version of the cite web template I use goes like this: <ref>{{cite web| url = | title = | author = | publisher = | date = | accessdate = }}</ref> and is put directly after punctuation, no spaces.

The data to enter is as follows:

  • URL - full web address of the source including http etc.
  • Title - Title of the article
  • Author - self explanatory, you can either put John Smith or Smith, John.
  • Publisher - website name, you can wikilink/internal-link it if WP has an article on it, the same goes for the author.
  • Date - YYYY-MM-DD - date the article was published
  • Access Date - YYYY-MM-DD - today's date, this is so if the link goes dead it's known at what point the link was live

It is also possible to use these templates to cross-reference to a single source. For instance, if I was going to use a GameSpot review to cite multiple parts of an article, the first time I'd create a template looking like this:

<ref name="gamespot">{{cite web|url = gamespot.com/whatever| title = Gamespot Review| author = John Smith| publisher = [[GameSpot]]| date = 1000-00-00| accessdate = 1000-00-00}}</ref>

Every time afterwords I'd just use:

<ref name="gamespot"/>

And that would be it, multiple uses of the same source. You can name that reference anything you wish between the speech marks, just be sure to repeat it exactly when referring to it with the follow-on mini template.

I hope this helps. Someoneanother 21:48, 22 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
