Human Rights Servey on Wikipedia (The final post of I_sterbinski)[edit]

Dear all,

Wikipedia was recently a subject of intensive research of an huge international human right organization. A team of people from different nationalities and ages were acting on Wikipedia for 20 days, investigating previously noted anomalities of Wikipedia free editing and forming a final report, which (between the others similar reports) will later be a guide to all future moves of the organization concerning Wikipedia. Acting under an account of a real person, their privacy is to be held private. Therefore, very few private information will be revealed.

Also, this is a result of the lack of final possition of the organization concerning Wikipedia and human rights, which was still not formed.

Actually, it was posted on the village pump on the 26th. The conversation on VFD/talk seemed to have consensus by the time I modified the template. It was supposed to be a gradual change, and indeed most VFD contributors didn't notice it. However, there was some shuffling back-and-forth over the templates, that was unintended and somewhat unfortunate. But Uncle G is now putting up a bot to make it smooth and painless, HTH! Feraios[edit]

I am very familiar with Rigas Feraios and I have never heard before the spelling Fereros. Perhaps Feraios or Fereos, but Fereros seems to be a problem in spelling. I am trying to find a public domain english translation of Thourios these days so that it could be included somewhere, but I haven't found any english translations yet. Mediation[edit]

Hello, MGM! I recently expressed my interest in becoming a mediator with Uncle Ed, and he encouraged me to apply. Thus, I've done so at WP:MC. Also, he asked me to propose a new mediation format that would make the process go smoother; I have created such a page at Wikipedia:Requests for mediation/Proposed. Here are my ideas for mediation:

Every mediator will have an office (similar to the desks used at the cleanup taskforce), at User:MEDIATOR/Office. This is where s/he will place all the current mediation.
Every mediation case will be on a subpage, at Wikipedia:Requests for mediation/PARTY 1 and PARTY 2. Thus, we can just put {{Wikipedia:Requests for mediation/...}} on the WP:RfM page and in the mediator's office.
Each case must first be approved by a mediator. Both parties MUST have agreed to mediation, as I beleive it's fruitless to mediate if one party is unwilling to settle their differences. Only a brief summary, without diffs or links to pages, will be accepted before the case is approved. The case may also be rejected or referred to the arbcom. In addition, both parties MUST agree to the goals of the mediation. (Again, I feel it's fruitless to mediate if both parties don't know what they are negotiating for)
Once approved, the next mediator without a case will take the assignment. In other words, the task will automatically move to an open office. If there are several open offices, it will go to the one which has been open the longest. If there are no open offices, it will go to one with the least cases/longest time on a case (if this wording isn't clear, see the "Open Tasks" thing at the right of the proposed page). Thus, there will be no "picking and choosing" of cases, streamlining the process. (An exception will be made if a mediator is an involved party).
Then the mediator will work with the parties... this is the actual mediation part.
The case can then be closed by the mediator- if both parties have met the goals, then the case is successful. Otherwise, the mediator can dismiss the case or recommend it to the arbcom.

I suppose if either one of the parties feel uncomfortable with the mediator, they can state the reason and the task will fall to the next available mediator. That's an interesting point, though- I'm waiting for Jimbo to (hopefully) express his opinions on this. My idea, after Uncle Ed requested it, was to streamline the process and make it go faster. By not letting participants choose which mediator they wanted, one mediator will not get all the requests, and the starting process will go faster. Let me know what you think! Hi Mac

I was wondering if you would take a look at a page on coral calcium I authored last night. I noticed that a few weeks ago you removed a page that was probably trying to plug someone's product. In my article, I made it a point to explain that calcium carbonate from fossilized reefs is no diferent chemically than calcium carbonate from limestone. I noticed that some of your contributions involved chamistry (I was a chem major in college). Anyway, if you think it's acceptable, would you mind un-redirecting "coral calcium" from coral to this article? I'm not some kind of a homeopathic idiot, and I think I presented everything in a fairly accurate and scientific way, although I may have digressed a bit with respect to why coral calcium is NOT a cure for cancer. Please let me know what you think. I'm kind of new to this, so I guess you just add to my talk page? Thanks in advance.

Plant ID[edit]

I can't say for sure - the first thing that popped into my head when I saw it was Ficus. It doesn't have to be, but you can usually recognise Moraceae by their terminal buds - they have conical bracts around the terminal bud, the overall look is often a little like a spear point. Actually I've already edited the article a bit and I'll probably expand it some more. He hasn't published any books, but he did contribute to a chapter on JMangler in a book on aspect-oriented programming. But his main claim to notability is probably his work on several fp and aop research projects, namely JMangler, AspectL, and Closer. I know him mainly from his excellent "Opinionated guide to Lisp." This is all very exciting stuff to me, although I only dimly understand the aop parts. I don't know whether this is what you were expecting, but as you probably know I don't really go with this notability thing. Doom DS - not a speedy candidate[edit]

I'm really sorry to do this, but Doom DS was not a speedy candidate. "non-notable - vanity" is not a criteria - the closest it could be was A7 "An article about a real person that does not assert that person's importance or significance. If the assertion is disputed or controversial, it should be taken to VFD instead. For details, see Wikipedia:Deletion of vanity articles." but this is not about a person. The article is totally non-notable(AFAIK) and should be deleted, but IMO, it does need to go through AfD. I'm going to recreate it, and list it on AfD. Sorry, again. I think this kind of project is borderline CSD7 but would have to give it the benefit of the doubt because it's about a project, not a person. References to personnel whose names contain underscores, = signs, and the like, and a link to a site that (despite the name) looks like a teen vanity page of some kid who learned how to use a doom modeller. This is AfD territory. If someone put up an article about Manic Miner, which was written by a seventeen-year-old kid in his bedroom on a Sinclair Spectrum and looks like it, I wouldn't want it speedied as a vanity project. --Tony Sidaway ^Talk 14:03, 5 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Cartouche Question[edit]

In the article on Julius Caesar it says that,

You might also perhaps care to consider the argument being put forward by some editors that a straight alphabetically ordered list of Greek words with their pronunciations and English translations is not a Greek-English translating dictionary.
