I would like people to ask first a permission, before posting photo snaps of myself to the official informative sites. Your concerns[edit]

Hello. Your edits yesterday were removed, by another editor, as they contained formatting errors (and also, they were not referenced to reliable sources). The article should only contain information which was derived from reliable published or online sources, as indicated by the article's footnotes. If the article's existing sources, or the article's interpretation of them, contain errors or important omissions then we should certainly make corrections, but only when the corrections themselves are referenced to reliable sources. Thank you though for pointing out where some errors may exist.

If you are concerned about the article, you need to read Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons/Help. Also essential is Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons, which is a key policy and contains much useful information. Before an article about a person is edited by that person or by anyone with a personal or professional relationship with that person, they need to read Wikipedia:Conflict of interest and Wikipedia:Autobiography and make sure they follow the guidelines there.

Any Wikipedia article is a collaborative effort by the community of volunteer Wikipedia editors; I personally am merely one of the most recent contributors to the article. Articles are continually changing and there is never a "final" version. However, for myself, I will re-check the references listed in the article (and any other reliable references I find), and do what I can to correct any errors or important omissions that I see. Having reviewed your edits, I will look at the following issues:

  1. A better characterization of the repertoire would be 'Romantic'.
  2. Mention is needed of Professor Tarassov
  3. Mention is needed of the role of Maria in Mazeppa in 2003
  4. The cast change in Japan was not just a simple replacement

You also expressed concern about the photograph in the article. This photo, taken in public, was uploaded by the person who took it, and that person owns the copyright. Wikipedia is able to display the photo simply because that person gave their general permission to do so when they uploaded it. Obviously, if anything about the photograph was offensive in any way it would not be used, but this photo seems quite inoffensive. Is there anything about it that you object to? However, if you wish to make available another photo, that could be used instead.

If you wish to donate a photograph, you need to follow the instructions at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. Note that to donate a photograph, you must own the copyright to it yourself or have obtained written proof from the photographer that he/she is willing to release the photograph on a free license. This means that anyone, not just Wikipedia is free to use the photograph as they wish, even for commercial purposes without having to pay royalties or ask for further permission.

editing articles[edit]

Dear Wikipedia,

I think that publishing photos of any living person in public sites- violates this person's rights and against the law. Example: user, publishing a photo snap of myself, he took in Salzburg, despite, that taking photo were STRICTLY forbidden during the signing session. The person, who took it, did it secretly, without asking my permission to be photographed, or having a license from Salzburger Festspiele administration. I politely ask you, once more, to remove this photo. Also, concerning my adding and making corrections to the wikipedia page, contains my OWN biography. I have indicated the source of this information- Zemsky Green agency, my biographic page, and the last thing incorrect, was written, that I replaced Mrs.Netrebko in Japan, is was not a correct information. I was asked on a short notice (three days), to fly over to Japan, because Met had cast change Barbara Frittoli jumping into La Boheme production, singing Mimi all performances, so I was asked to sing Elisabetta de Valois.

I hope you can sort out this matters, since, I suspect the same user, who opened this page, has violated my rights and, by opening facebook page under my name. I believe it is called "identity theft" - something which is unlawful and will be prosecuted.

Hello Marina. Facebook automatically creates pages for everyone who has an article on Wikipedia. They call them "community pages". The pages aren't created by individuals or by Wikipedia. They say on them "Community Pages are not affiliated with, or endorsed by, anyone associated with the topic.". Are you referring to this one? If so, it's one of those automatic pages and Wikipedia can't do anything about it, unfortunately. You could try contacting Facebook directly. Another good idea is to discuss any changes or problems with the article on its talk page - Talk:Marina Poplavskaya. Very few editors will see individual user talk pages like this one. And as Aegoceras pointed out above, you can also take your concerns to Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons/Noticeboard, where experienced editors can offer advice on the way forward. I agree with the good doctor. If you have an image you are willing to properly donate to Wikipedia for use, that would remove any need to use the other image whatsoever and it could then be completely deleted via deletion discussion (maybe even speedily). concerning someone opening an informative page about myself, using public sources of information, and not coordinating with me on doing so. As a leaving person, who can speak for herself and decide on this matters, I have chosen NOT to have official Internet sites, advertising my professional career, nor I gave my permission to someone to do it on my behalf. I please ask you to remove the page,with all it containing characters and the photograph of myself, made by a person I don't know and therefore I have never agreed for this photo to be taken. You can complain to the Wikimedia Foundation's team of volunteers. Please e-mail them at info-en-q@wikimedia.org with a link to the article in question and specific details of the problem. < I logged in to let the admins know, they violate my rights by assigning to this "biography" page, which is not a biography, but a collected in one, cuts from different unreliable sources. Who can know it better the ME about my life facts?!? Also about the photograph. This guy, I remember now, was kicked out from the signing session with the security, when he started making photo snaps. On another internet site, you can find him selling his "trophy"-photo snaps he did of a different people (all without their permission) starting at 50€ per photo (do you think, he shares the income with the "subject"? :-))). I was regular user of Wikipedia, but now, after what I saw and all disrespect I met, I would not recommend anyone to use this pages, since, God knows, how many people, like myself, these "activists" abused, by simply ignoring their first right as "TO BE ASKED FOR AND TO BE INFORMED ABOUT" their appearance in this pages. By the way, why do you all sign not with your real names??? If editing all information about real "subject" (how you call us), why not sign your name under the information, you believe to be true and verified? Why to hide behind the words? I'll take a little bit of time to reply to a particular question. You asked why people on Wikipedia do not use real names.
Using your name of Wikipedia is a voluntary measure. People nowadays are concerned about privacy and often do not wish for their real name to be connected to their online personality. For instance, I can tell you that "Cyclone" has been an online identity (and not just me, obviously others who have taken it at many other boards too) for 10 years. On the Internet, that is my real name (hypothetically). If I see something at a site I have ever been to and see "Cyclone", I know that unless it describes a natural weather disaster that it most likely otherwise refers to me (and yes, I couldn't help but make a comment about it when a cyclone actually did hit somewhere, but fortunately I was so well known at that site that everyone knew it was a joke - even if a bad joke). My real name I prefer not to see online. I've only made one exception (Facebook) which I will never link to this Wikipedia account of, in general, much of my online other activity. Not because I have personal things on Facebook I don't want anyone else to see (I don't, I really use it for games only), but because I choose not to reveal my real name here. If I were ever to become good friends with someone here, I might make an exception; ATM, one editor I've collaborated with here knows my Facebook ID and name.
There is an exception to the above. If a person is a staff member of Wikimedia Foundation (WMF), they will often have a second account (a legitimate alternate account) that is used only for WMF-related "stuff", let's call it. That account will always have the WMF employee's real name. An example I worked with today is Moonriddengirl, who while doing WMF work edits as Mdennis (WMF) but doing anything else in a non-WP capacity edits as her volunteer account (the former). Notice that the Mdennis account shows her real name, Maggie Dennis. The MRG account, I think, doesn't show this information. Now, in my case, I've also e-mailed WP before on a couple of issues, so they also have my name if it's ever a major concern to need it for some reason (like if I ever plan to become a member of WMF, at which point my name would be publicized for legal reasons). For now, I'm happy editing as I am and having control over who knows my name; it helps control my privacy online in a capacity where I am a volunteer (like millions of others) and don't want random unwanteds having access to it. After some thought, I decided to clarify another point you've asked about on here: why you have an article. Anyone who is notable is able to have an article created for them on Wikipedia. This is not something typically done by permission of an editing author; this is, like any encyclopedia, something that is just done. In general, people who create and edit articles here are all volunteers. Look at one of our administrators, Risker. She lists some of the articles she has created on that page, and one of those listed articles became a featured article, one of the best articles found on Wikipedia as judged by the community. Whether he created the article or merely expanded what was already there, she was responsible in part for making the article what it is.
If I may use a personal example, I created Nail Yakupov a few months ago. I didn't ask Nail for permission to create the article; I merely found out that he was starting to get some press and determined that it was enough coverage in reliable sources to merit an article. In setting up the article, I listed his stats, his playing career (so far only junior, though someday should make the NHL, possibly by 2012 playing for a big team), and some other random stuff. It's not a featured article or even a good article; there will be a lot to be added in the future as he goes through his career and more notable coverage occurs. However, this is one of my submissions to Wikipedia as a volunteer. I'm not paid for my work. It's all something I do because I enjoy doing it.
In a similar fashion to my example (and probably some of Risker's as well), you were determined by some editor a long time ago to be getting coverage in reliable sources and an article was created about you. I have not reviewed its history (whether it was up for deletion or so on), but it's still there today. Even your merely asking to have the article deleted, if you were to make such a request, would not necessarily be enough to delete it because of your notability. We are all volunteers, no one is paid to edit an article and thus it's not like any interview where we speak with the subject directly, like in magazine articles; we're all editing in many cases without knowing the subject personally. If there is libelous information, we like having that brought to our attention; it can be removed. But also note it's typically bad form to edit your own biographical article; we tend to appreciate mistakes being brought to our attention so it doesn't look like a COI issue. While we will remove libelous content or private personally identifying content (phone numbers, address, etc.), we will still often leave content that is verified in a published source; this could mean that something you may not agree with may remain in the article. If it's a reliable source, and could be published in an encyclopedia, chances are it can be published here as well.
I hope I've answered your questions in part, and I hope you will take advice from editors above your NLT block earlier regarding steps to take in various cases. It sounds like you are proceeding to verify yourself with OTRS, which is a good first step. I'm sure some work on your article will stem from that exchange. Dear Marina (if I may): sorry to be so late to this discussion. I just became aware of it today, in mid-July 2012. I was the editor who originally created the article about you, and I did it as a fan, just after seeing your wonderful performance in Don Carlo in the Live from the Met series.
