COI KITP[edit]

I am a paid staffer at the Kavli Institute for Theoretical Physics (UC Santa Barbara). My supervisor, Lisa Stewart, asked me to update Wikipedia pages for KITP, our Deputy Director Mark Bowick, and our permanent members, including David Gross. There is no editorial material and all citations are well-documented and factual.

COI[edit]

In future, do not publish pages for which you have a COI directly to article space (diff). Any articles you make for your employer need to go through Articles for Creation. Also, do not remove COI templates as you did here. The template is about your editing; you are obviously not the person to judge if your editing is neutral. Finally, as a COI editor, you are not permitted to edit articles in "article space" for which you have a conflict of interet, unless the edits are minor factual items. Please read WP:COIEDIT for the basics. Thank you. Possibly (talk) 21:41, 25 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you Possibly. I apologize, I didn't understand the Articles of Creation. I will not publish any more articles directly and am not currently planning on new ones. Thanks for explaining. Martine. 23:55, 25 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. AFC is described in the link above. Regarding article changes, if approved, someone will make the changes requested via Talk:Mark Bowick. FYI I had removed the thesis 'source' because it was just a generic link to the library catalogue and did not lead to his thesis. Possibly (talk) 01:09, 26 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Possibly, What is the issue with this thesis link? or maybe it was corrupted? https://thesis.library.caltech.edu/11206/ Martine. 01:57, 26 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
see this. I am going to leave the article for another impartial editor to take a look at. They will do the requested changes if they are accepted. Possibly (talk) 02:05, 26 January 2021 (UTC) Thank you Possibly. Are citations considered minor edits? Martine. 20:42, 26 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Edit requests[edit]

For David Gross, I suggest you amend your edit request by removing the proposed sections "Honorary Doctorates and Professorships" and its contents. That goes beyond what is typically seen for academics. David notMD (talk) 01:23, 30 March 2021 (UTC) ok, thanks David! I'll do that Martine. 01:29, 30 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Mark Bowick edits done[edit]

Hi Martine. Thank you for taking the time to provide the citations needed to improve Dr. Bowick’s page. As a physics aficionado via stargazing, I’m happy to improve the quality of a well know figure in the world of physics. Should you ever need a hand in Wikipedia, don’t hesitate to reach out to me. Cheers. Ferkijel (talk) 21:05, 31 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Ferkijel, you are awesome!!! Many many thanks!!! I'd be delighted to return the favor if you have any conflict of interest pages.

If you have time, I have a request - would you please add #6 6) membrane statistical mechanics, CITATION: https://www.nature.com/articles/s41467-017-01551-y/briefing/signup/ (Thermal crumpling of perforated two-dimensional sheets 2017) and the ORCID #? I'm also looking for help with Dr. David Gross, a Nobel Laureate particle physicist.

Citaitons[edit]

Hi Martine. I'm not sure how I arrived back here, but hello again. I wanted to let you know that something funny happened in the material you added to Julian Smith. Do you see the references that look like [10], [4], [20] and so on? I am guessing you meant to refer to the references above these, by number? We don't use references like that, because if one source is added above your new text, the numbers will ripple and ref 2 will become 3, and so on.

What you need to do if you want to reuse a references is use "reference naming". I did one for you, see #9. See WP:REFB for more. Also, it looks like the scientist editing has led you to some personal interest editing! That's good. Thanks. --- Possibly (talk) 04:57, 8 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hello again Possibly, Possibly, I haven't finished - I had to leave for the weekend. I hope to have more time later this week, if my work schedule allows. I will try to use "renaming" more. Thanks! Martine. 21:42, 11 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
