Peace Dove

Peace is a state of balance and understanding in yourself and between others, where respect is gained by the acceptance of differences, tolerance persists, conflicts are resolved through dialog, peoples rights are respected and their voices are heard, and everyone is at their highest point of serenity without social tension. Happy Holidays to you and yours. ―Buster7  17:10, 12 December 2019 (UTC)
We can all use more peace, Buster7. Thank you and more peace to you and your loved ones in this crazy world. Megalibrarygirl (talk) 21:22, 13 December 2019 (UTC)

I decorated a special kind of Christmas tree

What's especially nice about
this digitized version:
*it doesn't need water

Duplicate biographies on Jelena Mihailović

As we seem to be working on musicians together, I wonder if you could help out with Jelena Mihailović and Jela Cello (Jelena Mihailovic). They were both created at the same time by the same editor. I think the best solution would be to make a redirect from Jela Cello (Jelena Mihailovic) to Jelena Mihailović but I'm not sure whether that's allowed.--Ipigott (talk) 13:28, 16 December 2019 (UTC)

(talk page watcher) The content seems identical, so I'd say go ahead! I've made a couple of new redirects from Jela Cello and JelaCello. The 2014 AfD offered some new sources but they weren't added. And she's still performing. PamD 13:54, 16 December 2019 (UTC)
Links to official website and Youtube are dead. Perhaps the article ought to be at Jela Cello after all, looking at the performance page ... or not. PamD 14:02, 16 December 2019 (UTC)
Looks like it's all good now, Ipigott and PamD. :) Megalibrarygirl (talk) 18:10, 16 December 2019 (UTC)
Well, it wasn't yet... but have now moved the one article to Jela Cello and turned the other into a redirect, so we have just the one article at probably the commonly used name. PamD 19:17, 16 December 2019 (UTC)

Musicians

Thanks, Sue, for your interesting suggestions on Rosie's talk page. You may well be right that we should have an article on African American women in classical music but I'm afraid that on the basis of existing biographies, there's not a great deal of evidence of activity. In my List of women classical pianists, there are only nine African Americans while most of those in Category:African-American classical musicians seem to be associated with singing. Is it simply because Wikipedia has not been covering African American classical musicians in sufficient detail? If so, you may be able to suggest published sources we could draw on. It might also be useful to add Category:African American women classical musicians or compile a corresponding list. I'm pretty tied up with other work on classical musicians at the moment and generally try to spend most of my time on improving coverage of women from non English-speaking countries but let me know if you make a start and I'll try to help you along. As for jazz, blues, etc., I think you're quite right that more needs to be done but I'm no expert.--Ipigott (talk) 08:10, 11 December 2019 (UTC)

You're right, Ipigott that there aren't good categories for classical musicians who are African American. I had trouble finding good cats to put the two I just wrote about. Here's a list of notable African American composers to start with: Nora Douglas Holt, Florence Price, Avril Coleridge-Taylor, Undine Smith Moore, Zenobia Powell Perry, Evelyn La Rue Pittman, Margaret Bonds, Julia Amanda Perry, Betty Jackson King, Regina Harris Baiocchi, Lena McLin, Dorothy Rudd Moore and Nkeiru Okoye (maybe Tania León). And that's just the composers! If we started a list of just African American women in classical music, we might see a pattern for the article. It's helped me when I've worked on other big articles in the past. :) Megalibrarygirl (talk) 18:19, 11 December 2019 (UTC)
@Ipigott: I'm making List of African-American women in classical music to sort things out a bit. :) Megalibrarygirl (talk) 01:26, 12 December 2019 (UTC)
Great. The African American community certainly deserves more attention. As I continue making lists of other classical musicians, I'll add any names I find. I'm also a bit concerned about what to do with classical women violinists. I've identified 323 up to now and put them in Category:Women classical violinists but expect there will be 400 or more as I continue searching for them. There is already a List of women classical violinists but as it is in both chronological order and tabular form, it would take me ages to add all the missing names. (I also find it rather strange that the list includes so many red-linked names.) On the other hand, I could put together a comprehensive List of women classical violinists by nationality over the next three or four days along the lines of List of classical women pianists (which I've now completed). Do you think that would be a good idea?--Ipigott (talk) 07:38, 12 December 2019 (UTC)
I agree, Ipigott. If we don't write about them, these women stay invisible. :( I think you might get dinged for creating a new list of violinists by nationality since the other one does include that. I find editing tables to be easier in visual mode. Do you use that? Megalibrarygirl (talk) 21:21, 13 December 2019 (UTC)
Thanks for the suggestion but what exactly is "visual mode"? Is it the same as Wikipedia:VisualEditor? If so, it does not look very easy to use. I think I'll probably continue to edit in the normal way. As for the violinists, I'll try to add up to 20 a day to the existing table, then everything should be OK in about a month's time. If ever you have a spare moment, perhaps you could help along. But I also want to cover other instruments such as cello, which I've already started.--Ipigott (talk) 07:31, 14 December 2019 (UTC)
Yes, Ipigott, I meant Visual editor :P I can add some string players. There seem to be a lot of African American string players that may be notable but don't have articles yet. I do like using visual editor over "regular" editing. For me, it's a TON faster. :) Megalibrarygirl (talk) 17:56, 14 December 2019 (UTC)
  • Well I've now added 125 to the List of female violinists (i.e. all those I could place chronologically) but there are at least a hundred more without any dates of birth. What do you think we should do with these? Add a separate table with approximate fl start dates or just add them all at the bottom of the existing list without any dates? It seems quite unfair to me that women who do not wish to reveal their date of birth are not welcome in tables like this.
Glad to see List of African-American women in classical music is now on mainspace.--Ipigott (talk) 16:04, 18 December 2019 (UTC)
I think adding a separate table is a good idea, Ipigott. I hope that more people will add to the list of African American women in classical music. I'm sure there's lots more. :) Megalibrarygirl (talk) 21:04, 18 December 2019 (UTC)
OK. I'll go ahead on that basis but it might take me a while to get started.--Ipigott (talk) 07:47, 19 December 2019 (UTC)

Reviewer of the Year

This year's Reviewer of the Year is Rosguill. Having gotten the reviewer PERM in August 2018, they have been a regular reviewer of articles and redirects, been an active participant in the NPP community, and has been the driving force for the emerging NPP Source Guide that will help reviewers better evaluate sourcing and notability in many countries for which it has historically been difficult.

Special commendation again goes to Onel5969 who ends the year as one of our most prolific reviewers for the second consecutive year. Thanks also to Boleyn and JTtheOG who have been in the top 5 for the last two years as well.

Several newer editors have done a lot of work with CAPTAIN MEDUSA and DannyS712 (who has also written bots which have patrolled thousands of redirects) being new reviewers since this time last year.

Thanks to them and to everyone reading this who has participated in New Page Patrol this year.

Redirect autopatrol

A recent Request for Comment on creating a new redirect autopatrol pseduo-permission was closed early. New Page Reviewers are now able to nominate editors who have an established track record creating uncontroversial redirects. At the individual discretion of any administrator or after 24 hours and a consensus of at least 3 New Page Reviewers an editor may be added to a list of users whose redirects will be patrolled automatically by DannyS712 bot III.

Source Guide Discussion

Set to launch early in the new year is our first New Page Patrol Source Guide discussion. These discussions are designed to solicit input on sources in places and topic areas that might otherwise be harder for reviewers to evaluate. The hope is that this will allow us to improve the accuracy of our patrols for articles using these sources (and/or give us places to perform a WP:BEFORE prior to nominating for deletion). Please watch the New Page Patrol talk page for more information.

This month's refresher course

While New Page Reviewers are an experienced set of editors, we all benefit from an occasional review. This month consider refreshing yourself on Wikipedia:Notability (geographic features). Also consider how we can take the time for quality in this area. For instance, sources to verify human settlements, which are presumed notable, can often be found in seconds. This lets us avoid the (ugly) 'Needs more refs' tag.

@Coffeeandcrumbs: thanks for letting me know! I'm also glad that I've done some work on the WASP article... though it still needs more attention. :) Megalibrarygirl (talk) 17:24, 20 December 2019 (UTC)

Help locating a quote

Hello Megalibrarygirl, Would you know how I can locate text from the book Performance In Canada, 1970-1990 written by Richard Alain-Martin and Clive Robertson. I have found it at Artexte but need to locate the text from the book to support an edit request that I've made on the COI article for Kent Tate.

The edit request is: Tate began his career in the early 1980s with performance art in Toronto.[1]

Any help or suggestions would be most sincerely appreciated! Kind regards, LorriBrown (talk) 04:14, 19 December 2019 (UTC)

@LorriBrown: I'm striking out on databases I have access to. However, I did get a bit of a clue using HathiTrust. While I can't see the page, the terms "Kent" and "Tate" and "performance" and "art" lead to hits in the book. Because there's no preview, I can't look at the full text. All I know is that he's in there, including on page 387 in the book. Here's a link to the HathiTrust page on the book with search terms "Kent" and "Tate" preloaded: ([1]). Also, there's copies at several universities. The closest one to me is a 6-8 hour drive, though! But maybe there's some editors you can find who live or work near some of these places which are listed on Worldcat. Good luck! :) Megalibrarygirl (talk) 17:36, 20 December 2019 (UTC)
@Megalibrarygirl: Hey thanks! Thank you so much for doing that. I am in the state of frustration because I made an edit request COI on the Kent Tate article a while back which resulted in the editor removing multiple references + some content - leaving the article in a much weakened state, leaving some explanations that were partially erroneous. I've been attempting to correct this by making additional edit request but the way in which I am presenting the new text(which was just a modified version of the old text) has been meet with a high level of scrutiny & resistance (I suppose rightfully so to a certain degree) but has caused be a great deal of stress and much frustration. I've complained but that isn't ever really very helpful. Ranting when you are upset just always seems to make you look bad and no one seems to pay attention to you actual complaint. Anyway thank you for your help!!! It is greatly appreciated. Truly!LorriBrown (talk) 18:19, 20 December 2019 (UTC)
No problem, LorriBrown. This does sound like a frustrating place to be in with regards to editing! You might want to try some other Librarians on Wikipedia, too, since they'll have different levels of access. You can find more librarians at Wikimedia and Libraries User Group. :) Megalibrarygirl (talk) 20:22, 20 December 2019 (UTC)
