the Nepenthes footer

90% of the wikipedia footers use class="toccolours" which define a "standard" look. The exceptions are either older footers from before that class was introduced that have not been updated (say, {{Oceania}}) or those using the new collapsible format. For various examples of footers with 5px (all using toccolours), see {{Depeche Mode}}, {{Mammals}}, {{Chicano/Mexican-American}} or {{AsianCurrencies}}. It's really the MediaWiki.css that should be updated. I have to see to that. Circeus 00:18, 8 April 2006 (UTC)

Mgiganteus1, hello. Do you know anything about the copyright status of [1], where the text of Nepenthes rajah/B. H. Danser's Monograph: Nepenthes rajah seems to come from? WikiProject: Carnivorous Plants

Hi Mgiganteus1,

First of all, I applaud your amazing and tireless effort so far on various Nepenthes pages, especially N. rajah! I noticed that you have found the Carnivorous Plant Wikiproject page, and added a note about the new Nepenthes pages. Thanks! Feel free also to add your name under participants (not a formal commitment, but it allows others to see who is involved) if you would like. Also, if you want to form some kind of a subproject section outlining progress and methods for the Nepenthes pages so that others wanting to get involved know what's going on, feel free to do so! Cheers, NoahElhardt 23:49, 22 April 2006 (UTC)

Edit summaries

When editing an article on Wikipedia there is a small field labelled "Edit summary" under the main edit-box. It looks like this:

Edit summary text box

The text written here will appear on the Recent changes page, in the page revision history, on the diff page, and in the watchlists of users who are watching that article. See m:Help:Edit summary for full information on this feature.

When you leave the edit summary blank, some of your edits could be mistaken for vandalism and may be reverted, so please always briefly summarize your edits, especially when you are making subtle but important changes, like changing dates or numbers. Thank you.

WikiProject Dinosaurs

Hi Mgiganteus, I noticed you're not signed on for Wikipedia:WikiProject_Dinosaurs, but your list of contributions clearly indicates you've worked on quite a few dinosaur articles. Since your work is good, I'm officially inviting you to join our small yet meager team.--Firsfron 05:06, 22 May 2006 (UTC) :)

Awesome. Welcome to the team. If you've added the Project page to your watchlist, you'll easily be able to tell when new comments are left there, or on its talk page. We frequently discuss issues like sources that contradict each other, new info, new genera, etc... And you can see we have plenty of projects to be completed. Or you can just work independently, of course. Again, welcome. :) --Firsfron 16:20, 22 May 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for the support. I made that map this night after a request posted in the French speaking Atelier graphique for a new and readable map. I admit that, like I wrote it in the summary of the map page, without your location pictures of Borneo, it would have been almost impossible for me to complete that map : some data on the original one were totally undecipherable ! These ones gave me also the occasion to complete and correct this general map. So : thank you too ! Greats. Sting-fr 20:50, 25 May 2006 (UTC)

Categories

Hi, I noticed your categorizing of Nepenthes. If you read the guidelines on categorization you will notice that a category should not be too small or too big. It should hold just so many items that it easy to see the whole category at a glance. Certainly a category should not exceed 200 items except in very special cases. So whenever a category starts approaching 200 it is time to make a subcategory and start moving items into the subcategory. Also, a basic guideline is that one and the same item should not be in a category and in a subcategory of that category: it should only be in the subcategory (except in special cases). There is no point whatsoever in having a Nepenthes species in both Caryophyllales and in the subcategory Nepepentaceae: everything in that is in subcategory Nepenthaceae can be found from the main category. Otherwise all 400.000 plant species would end up in category flowering plants and nobody could find anything.

The same goes for carnivorous plants. As there are no species of Nepenthes that are not carnivorous, it is a lot easier for the user to have everything on Nepenthes in this one category Nepenthaceae which is then put into the category carnivorous plants. Brya 13:52, 30 May 2006 (UTC)

ATP number 1

Hi, In tabular information, which is not read linearly like normal articles, it is standard to wikilink every occurrence of a player's name, country, etc. It is also preferable to use the standard HTML table headings instead of unclosed <b> tags. As for bolding entries of 100 or more weeks at #1, the standard is to bold only entries which set a record, which means only one should be bold. The underlined counts of total number of weeks a player spent at #1 is just repetition of information in the column, and probably belong in a separate table. eae 18:42, 19 June 2006 (UTC)

Hi,

why did you remove the <br clear="all"/> before the image gallery? Without it, the left-aligned screenshot of the church overlaps with the gallery in some browser/resolution combinations (notably Firefox), i.e. the Spectrum screenshot is covered by the church picture.--Eloquence* 09:16, 28 June 2006 (UTC)

An alternative way to deal with the problem is to right-align the image, though that may also cause display issues on systems with low resolutions. Or you could just put all images inside the gallery.--Eloquence* 09:46, 28 June 2006 (UTC)

Starting a sentence with Because

It is perfectly acceptable to start a sentence with 'Because' as long as the clause is dependent on a complete thought in the rest of the sentence. It would not be a complete sentence to have "Why is editing disabled?" Because of vandalism., but it is a complete sentence to say Because of vandalism, editing is disabled. for the same reason it is acceptable to have "I went to a restaurant because I was hungry" but not "I went to a restaurant. Because I was hungry." —Centrxtalk • 20:59, 20 September 2006 (UTC)

Cyathea

Hi Mgiganteus1 - superb set of articles you've got going here! As there's so many of them, I've started to separate them out from Category:Pteridophyta into a new subcategory Category:Cyatheaceae to get Category:Pteridophyta below 200 listings. One other point; they are of course plants, not animals, so the author citations do not have dates, and should follow the standard botanical author abbreviations; these can be looked up at the IPNI author query page, or the List of botanists by author abbreviation (not complete, but most major authors listed). Can you check over to see that the authors do follow the standard abbreviations, please! - Thanks, MPF 19:41, 23 September 2006 (UTC)

On dates, I don't know, but it is standard practice not to include them (unless giving a full citation including the place of publication, in which case the date is given too). Maybe there is a case to be made for adding full citations, but it has never been called for at WP:PLANTS. Another one - I just got to Cyathea amintae; this appears to be a synonym of Cyathea dryopteroides (see e.g. [2]), unless there has been any recent change. Maybe it should be moved to that name? - MPF 19:53, 23 September 2006 (UTC)
OK, I can leave the dates if you want them (even though it makes them look like zoological citations!) - MPF 20:01, 23 September 2006 (UTC)
"Btw, when I use a mdash in the author citation, it is not because I do not know the author, but because the species has never been placed in the genus Cyathea in a published source AFAIK (it's been placed in one of its syonyms). Is there a different way I could indicate this?" - Sorry, there isn't. This actually makes the page in breach of Wikipedia:No original research as you're in effect trying to publish the new combination Cyathea amintae(Conant) Mgiganteus (invalidly, as the ICBN does not permit the valid publication of names electronically). If the combination hasn't been formally published anywhere, then I'm afraid we definitely can't use it in wikipedia. Sorry! - MPF 20:32, 23 September 2006 (UTC)
My thought would be to follow the GRIN cit above and include it in Cyathea dryopteroides until it does get formally published. Also, if you know the authors of that Tree Ferns book, contact them and ask them what the situation is on whether the new combination is published yet (If they consider it a distinct species, I'd not be surprised if they have it in press or recently in print in a botanical journal somewhere) - MPF 20:54, 23 September 2006 (UTC)
Tricky one! If one is to follow Braggins & Large scrupulously, then it will have to wait until the nomenclatural problems are sorted elsewhere in print. Ideally the wiki articles should mention/discuss other taxonomic opinions as well, such as whichever sources GRIN cite and follow; again, I'd think it might be better to follow this in these cases to avoid the difficulties. - MPF 21:09, 23 September 2006 (UTC)

Giant Pacific Octopus

Giant pacific octopus is considered to be the largest octopus on the planet, I've had to revert this 3 times now. Please stop reverting it back, the seven armed octopus is not larger. Giant Pacific Octopus have reached 600 pounds, with 23foot arm to arm length. I put a half a dozen links on the seven armed octopus talk page, all comfirming that the Giant Pacific Octopus is the largest octopus. Some are rando websites, some are aquariums and museums. thank you TotallyTempo 03:25, 12 October 2006 (UTC) I do not believe links from aquariums and museums are questionable,I believe these instituions do use scientific data and scientists and records to keep trak of such things. However for now I will stop reverting and will leave the text that you wrote with token support to my questionable claims. What kind of source would you find to be more appropriate to confim my so called hypothesis, I have a half dozen references to prove me I believe that this is sufficent proof. TotallyTempo 20:29, 12 October 2006 (UTC)

Ok, I found a link from 2003, by a doctor at an edu website claiming a giant pacific Octopus is the largest however it does not have the direct comparison, I will post it here anyways http://www.cephbase.utmb.edu/TCP/faq/TCPfaq2b.cfm?ID=1 however I do like the new introduction to the giant pacific octopus, claiming that there are questionable claims about huge octopuses (octopi)?, I personally cannot imagine an octopus weighing 600 lbs, that's like sunfish sized. If this link does not satisfy you I say we call a truce and leave the introduction wording as you currently put it. Stating that the seven arm octopus is considered by some scientists to be the largest octopus, however there are disputed claims of much larger Giant Pacific Octopus's being found. I'm paraphrasing but you get my point that I am in favour of the new version of the article. Does this seem reasonable to you? TotallyTempo 20:59, 12 October 2006 (UTC)

Finally before I let you go in peace I think I should post our discussions on the discussion page of the giant pacific octopus, since bfore this 2002 discovery of the seven armed octopus it was considered the largest and therefore someone else could come along with the same mindset as me thinking that the giant pacific octopus is indeed the biggest octopus and reverting the article. If you do not want me to post our discussions on the talk page please let me know.

Hey, just wanted to bring up your removal of the WP:PARA project template. I've went ahead and put it back, simply because Cryptozoology is one of the topics currently covered by our project. Until then, we are the ones taking care of the subject. --InShaneee 18:41, 12 October 2006 (UTC)

Linking

I've read it, and I've also read Wikipedia:Only make links that are relevant to the context, that discuss what you should NOT link (in that list is "red links"). When it says "link to red links if you have the intention to create the page", that does not mean "if OTHERS have the intention" it means if YOU do. Leaving the responsibility to others does not count as "intention", and neither does just saying "you plan to do it". You actually have to impliment the create. But I'll leave it for now, and monitor the page. If I don't start seeing pages created by a months time then I will remove the red links, because it will show that you had no intention of creating the pages. The allowance of red links isn't an "eternity" of time, there is a time span based on the "intention" to create the pages. There isn't a set time, but I'm sure 1 month is plenty to at least get the ball rolling on some of those pages. Bignole 12:16, 26 October 2006 (UTC)

Alien vs. Predator

Although it is written on the covers as Aliens versus Predator it is known officially as "Aliens vs. Predator" [3]. Equally it is "Superman vs. Aliens" [4] - it was the second installment that was Superman/Aliens and so the first name gets precedent Also it is "Green Lantern vs. Aliens" [5] as my note on the entry's talk page says. So could you revert the changes you've just made? Well most of them - it does seem to be "Batman versus Predator" [6] (Emperor 18:27, 4 November 2006 (UTC))

As I've said somewhere else it appears to be "versus" on the cover as it longe and provides balance (it seems to be a graphic design decision). Dark Horse's catalogue has to be considered the definitive source for the naming. The naming does change (as with Superman vs. Aliens and Superman/Aliens) but that doesn't mean that the database is somehow wrong and doesn't mean we can just go and call them whatever we like. The name in the catalogue is the official name - I can't see how vs. is more legibile then versus. It has to be the correct name so as to avoid any complications that might arise. When the names differs from that formula it is also reflected on the covers. The names as they appear in the catalogue are also the names as they appear in books on the subject like Beautiful Monsters. (Emperor 20:39, 4 November 2006 (UTC))

hi,

just wanted to tell you i was stunned when i stumbled over the Nepenthes pages you created. I'm currently working on spiders, and found them via Misumenops nepenthicola. Red Rain in Kerala

Ey Up (that's a Yorkshire alternative to the ubiquity of 'Hi'),

I agree with your recent reversion, changing 'aluminum' back to 'aluminium', which I presume is appropriate in Indian English.

In the CESS paper, elemental analysis of the red raindust found 321 ppm Ti (listed under 'Trace Elements'), which seems unusual for biological material. Also they do not mention Cl or F in either of their tables of results of elemental analysis. (Louis & Kumar's graph of the x-ray spectrum, Fig. 14 in their paper 0601022 shows both, though only Cl is included in the list of elements in Table 1.) I'm not sure how unusual the Ti content is; nor whether it would be appropriate to include mention of this and/or the lack of information abour Cl and F in the section about the CESS report. On the one hand it would make the piece more factually accurate. On the other it would seem likely to give rise to yet more 'speculative' nonsense. I'd be interested in your comments when you have a few moments to spare. Thanks. Davy p 00:56, 1 December 2006 (UTC)

A tag has been placed on Weakly symmetric matter, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because it is a very short article providing little or no context to the reader. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. If you plan to provide more material to the article, I advise you to do so immediately, and also put a note on Talk:Weakly symmetric matter. An administrator should check for such edits before deleting the article. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Please read our criteria for speedy deletion, particularly item 1 under Articles. Please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources which verify their content. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself. To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait a while for you to add contextual material, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and then immediately add such material. I see you're currently working on this page. Is there anything I can do to help to bring it along to FA status? I think it's pretty much there, though. --Rkitko 03:55, 24 December 2006 (UTC)

Hi. I've been working on the Nepenthes rajah article on and off for a while, but these days I usually make only minor edits. Please feel free to make any changes you wish. I'm unsure about nominating it for FAC, as I think it would fail in its current form simply because it is too long and too detailed. Mgiganteus1 16:15, 24 December 2006 (UTC)
I noticed the length, too. And I worried it might not pass FAC, too. Can't hurt to try and get some constructive criticism if it fails, right? Or has the article changed significantly since the last peer review that another might be valuable? The article looks great and has so much wonderful information in it. I'm not too familiar with FA criteria, but I'll go poke around tonight and read through it. Cheers, --Rkitko 18:41, 24 December 2006 (UTC)

Capitalisation

Firstly, apologies if I've disturbed any agreed standards. I always understood that fish, molluscs, insects, were lower case, & mammals, birds, were capitalised. My experience with most of the large number of articles I've written or amended confirms this to me. The few articles that don't follow these guides (&, indeed, some mix the capitalisation 'rules' even in the same article) I've been 'standardising'. I'd appreciate your telling me what the latest 'rules' are, so I do the right thing in future. Cheers GrahamBould 13:42, 11 January 2007 (UTC)

Editors that don't provide an edit summary tend to look like vandals

I have noticed you commonly don't enter an edit summary as you didn't when you edited Giant squid (see this edit). This causes me problems. When I patrol for vandalism, I use the summary to make a preliminary decision on whether or not the post is a vandal edit or not. If the summary is present (or at least a section header, the part inside the /* */), I commonly decide the edit is legit and move on.

However, if no edit summary is available, I typically resort to loading the diff for the edit. This takes time. For that reason, if your edits are all valid, I ask that you provide edit summaries. For more on how to enter an edit summary, please read Help:Edit summary.

Incidentally, it is not just me that appreciate having edit summaries. When you omit your summary, you may be telling various bots that you are vandalizing pages. For this reason, please consider providing that summary. It is very important. You can enter that summary via the edit summary box on edit pages (as shown below).

The edit summary appears in black italics in the following places: * Use the enhanced watchlist to see all recent changes in the watched pages, not just the last change in each page.

When you did provide a summary, it was either just the section link or simply "rv". That is not enough. If you are reverting vandalism or spam, you need to include who was the culprit and what you reverted to (usually a version). Other types of reverts, like for POV, need a more detailed explanation according to WP:REVERT. Will (Talk - contribs) 01:27, 25 January 2007 (UTC)

Archaeamphora longicervia

i do not mind helping with an illustration. but i wonder if you could explain me a bit more how the plant was: on the illustration in the pdf. what is the thing on the top of the plant? the leaves that come out of the earth at the side of the plant, also belong to it? the eating bulbs. they have an opening on the top.. and also on the midle? or what is the clear green area there? is there any living relative? or at least another illustration from relatives or so? how tall was the plant? the more information you can offer me the better . thanks-LadyofHats 02:51, 28 January 2007 (UTC)

Nice work on the Archaeamphora and Aldrovanda/Paleoaldrovanda pages! Keep it up. Should you still need an illustration, I'd be happy to put something together as well. --NoahElhardt 17:58, 28 January 2007 (UTC)

Go for it: it's been a while since we've had a CP mention on the front page. Speaking of which, any plans to submit Nepenthes rajah for FA status any time soon? I would have already, but I don't want to do so unless I know you have the time and are willing to work on the article as needed throughout the FA review process. --NoahElhardt 20:30, 28 January 2007 (UTC)

Cephalopod size

I noticed you have been reverting my edit to Cephalopod size in which I linked two species names in image captions. I noticed that you have other image caption links intact. What is your objection to my additions? Thanks. -Shaundakulbara 12:21, 3 February 2007 (UTC)

  • My objection relates to the placement of one image on the left. Regards, Mgiganteus1 12:25, 3 February 2007 (UTC)

Please remember that it is preferable whenever possible to change a specific thing rather than revert. In effect, you undid three edits of mine to accomplish one edit you wanted to make. In regards to the placement, on my screen those two pics stood side-by-side after my edit and eliminated blank space. Do I guess correctly that on your screen my edits created rather than eliminated ugly blank space? You can respond to me right here, thanks. -Shaundakulbara 12:31, 3 February 2007 (UTC)

Reverting

I noticed you reverted my edit to Digital dashboard in which I added to the article an example image and detailed facts regarding that image in an infobox software. The reason you gave for the first deletion of the infobox software was "removing ad; examples shouldn't have infoboxes devoted to them." The reason you gave for the second deletion of the infobox software was "(rv)". I do appreciate your efforts to keep ads from articles. However, reverting is a decision which should be taken seriously. Generally, editors should improve the edit, rather than reverting it. I reinserted the image in the article without the infobox software. If this is not acceptable, please contact me so that we may discuss this further. Thanks. -- Jreferee 17:10, 4 February 2007 (UTC)

Why the reversion?

Is their nature what remain controversial, not the actuality of the things itself. --Damifb 20:28, 5 February 2007 (UTC)

I have added a "{{prod}}" template to the article Piranha (2006 film), suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but I don't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and I've explained why in the deletion notice (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). Please either work to improve the article if the topic is worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia, or, if you disagree with the notice, discuss the issues at its talk page. Removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, but the article may still be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached, or if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria. Plants

By including a whole paragraph on fungi on the plants page, you are reinforcing the myth that fungi are plants, not the other way round. When it comes to describing scientific concepts Wikipedia should stick to the facts and not place things were they quite simply do not belong. SuperRuss

Hope you don't think me pedantic about this, but you'd be surprised how dumb people can be. I'm sure a lot of people think the main food of rabbits is carrots because of Bugs Bunny. Anyway, the Gary Larson quote amused me, so I thought it worth adding. The "Note" heading is dull though, but I just couldn't think of a better way of heading that section. If you can, go for it!

Circulatory system

Hi. Thanks for catching what I missed on Circulatory system I am not sure how I missed the other stuff, but I am glad you caught it! -- Whereizben - Chat with me 13:34, 8 March 2007 (UTC)

I saw that you edited this article earlier today. I was the one adding and then changing my contribution. The reason for this was that the first text was directly ripped from the page i added in the "ref" tags. The second text was an attempt to use different wording. I will let you decide what is the best action.

Please explain your revert of me at Octopus

I see no valid reason you should have removed the wiki link I added to that article. My edit consisted of adding a wiki link to the word "mollusk", which is already present in the article. Either an Octopus is a Mollusk or it is not. If it's not, the sentence saying it is, should be removed. If it is, then the wiki link I added should restored. Personally, I am guessing that you automaticallly reverted my without even checking the merit of my edit from an editorial standpoint. And further, I am speculating that you did so because I am an IP editor. Am I wrong? Perhaps I am. Why don't you explain yourself... I will look for your prompt reply here, on your talk page. 64.74.153.189 03:52, 10 March 2007 (UTC)

Hello, Mgiganteus1! Thank you for reverting vandalism to Wikipedia, as you did in Life. After you revert, I would recommend also warning the users whose edits you revert on their talk pages with an appropriate template or custom message. This will serve to direct new users towards the sandbox, educate them about Wikipedia, and a stern warning to a vandal may prevent him or her from vandalizing again. Thanks! zero » 00:23, 21 March 2007 (UTC)

Axis powers of World War II

Hi. I noticed you put back the sections I erased. I think they should stay erased for the time being, for two reasons. First, this is Torb37 we're talking here - someone whom I believe to be a good-faith contributor, but whose contributions have consistently been at a sub-par level (grammatical errors, lack of references, content forking, etc.) that will at some point require a massive effort to fix. Ipso facto, that's not such a problem (English clearly not being his native language) - what really gets me is his consistent failure to reply to any of the messages left on his talk page trying to guide him toward better editing.

That said, what about this specific case? Well, I'm not totally opposed to including those countries. I do oppose the extremely poor quality of his additions - note for instance in the Belgium section, where he simply left a photo caption as part of the text! Moreover - and this is the crux - what good, what possible good, does it do us to duplicate wholesale what is found elsewhere on Wikipedia?? Summaries of that, maybe, links to it, sure - but just copying it? I think there's something amiss with that. Biruitorul 17:17, 23 April 2007 (UTC)

Image:Nepenthes rajah upper.PNG

Thanks for uploading Image:Nepenthes rajah upper.PNG. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Pagrashtak 20:52, 25 April 2007 (UTC)

Orphaned fair use image (Image:SkyNET1.gif)

Thanks for uploading Image:SkyNET1.gif. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. The black hole picture

I rest my case. I still think that picture is very bad. Black holes are not that big, and being said "on the internet" is not enough in my opinion. Black holes are very difficult to describe because the photons can't escape it. Black holes have no radius, though their mass is, well, massive. For that picture to be somewhat valid, you'd have to be very close to the hole, and at that time, you'd already be torn apart by the gravitation force. That image is better off Wikipedia. AVGN

A review, from the most popular to the most unknown website remains a personal opinion. No one's personal opinion is of greater importance than another. What the Nerd does and say at the same time that he reviews the games does not matter. There's no such thing as a gamer review degree or diploma, no one, not even the staff at GameSpot went to special schools to review games, everyone one of these people are gamers stating their personal opinion. It's not like putting news from of an unreleased game from a fan website, these games are out, someone reviewed them and didn't like them.

I didn't start putting links to the Nerd's review, some were already there, I'm just adding the ones that are missing. Also, considering that the AVGN's reviews are some of the most watched videos on YouTube and GameTrailers, hard to argue with the question if they should be placed on Wikipedia. I'll say the same thing I said to the other guy, you're trying to protect a page you love from having something negative to be placed in. That's admirable, but not the Wikipedia way. There's no censorship on Wikipedia and as long as what is posted is real, then there's a place for it. Duhman0009 02:22, 30 May 2007 (UTC)

Please don't revert me again. Dinosaurs are not reptiles, ask anyone at Wikiproject Dinosaurs. To add creedance to my claim, here's a line from the opening of our very own Dinosaur article - "...dinosaur is sometimes used informally to describe other prehistoric reptiles, such as the pelycosaur Dimetrodon, the winged pterosaurs, and the aquatic ichthyosaurs, plesiosaurs and mosasaurs, although technically none of these were dinosaurs...". Dinosaurs may look like reptiles, may smell like reptiles & may taste like reptiles, but they split off from Archosaurs many moons ago. Do not make me revert you again. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. ShakespeareFan00 15:41, 18 June 2007 (UTC)

Commas or parentheses for scientific name in opening sentence and elsewhere

(Now that was a long header wasn't it?) There's a debate here about commas versus parentheses for scientific names for organisms (well in this case birds). I'm not sure whether this has been raised elsewhere but would be good to establish once and for all here and could apply as MOS across all biology articles. cheers, Casliber (talk · contribs) 21:10, 18 June 2007 (UTC)

Krešimir Cvitanović

A "{{prod}}" template has been added to the article Krešimir Cvitanović, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but the article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice explains why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may contest the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. --Jtalledo (talk) 23:59, 21 June 2007 (UTC)

Re: Roger Federer table of contents

I noticed that you reverted my adding of a TOClimit. You may want to take a look at the discussion page, where the GA reviewer stated that a TOClimit should be added so that the table of contents would not be as long. It may squeeze the text, but the smaller table of contents looks better and take up less blank space. --tennisman 20:34, 22 June 2007 (UTC)

Good gawd, I've been contributing to a number of CP articles lately and recently realized that Nepenthes as a a genus has probably the best coverage for it's species of any large CP genera on wikipedia (- most are seriously lacking - for instance, Uticularia as a genus has articles for less than 5% of its species at present). It seems to me from looking at history pages that you are the main reason for this - I'm a great believer in positive feedback so I'd just like to say well done! Cheers, Kotare 03:43, 1 July 2007 (UTC)

Thanks, yeah I don't have much time but I'm doing what I can. It's an area of wikipedia that needs a lot of work I think - pish! and don't worry about contributing to other CP genera articles- seriously you've already done more work on CP articles/Wikipedia in general than most wikipedians will in their lifetime haha. Tsavo lion

Hello. Thank you for the image of a maneless adult lion. (It´s a small pity, that it looks a bit fat, but anyway, it is a good picture.) I am quite interested in these Tsavo lions. Have you seen more lions at Tsavo? And if yes, how much of the adult males were maneless? --Altaileopard 08:38, 18 July 2007 (UTC)

fog bow

Yes, I also believe that these are 2 of the best fog bow images available at the NET. After all I took them myself. So I nominated one on FP: Here are the responces I've got:#1IMO enc or value of the pic do not increase with the number of phenomena depicted. On the contrary, I'd prefer pictures with one single phenomenon each, that makes it much clearer to see what's described. --Dschwen;#2Oppose Quality is very low, and I don't say why you had to use a focal length of "0mm" to get this - it's distorted the image horribly and it looks like you could have easily got the full bow in with say a 17mm lens --Fir0002 22:08, 24 July 2007 (UTC)#3Oppose per Fir. I agree that a 17mm lens would be plenty wide enough to capture this phenom and would reduce the distorsion significantly. As Dschwen commented on another candidate: "Lack of votes = lack of interest = not an interesting picture = not FP material". I also think that sometimes it is a good thing to not be a subject matter expert when voting on an image. Cacophony 08:00, 25 July 2007 (UTC) As you could see one of the three, who wants images back is user Cacophony , who said "Lack of votes = lack of interest = not an interesting picture = not FP material". So why he wants the images back at the page now? I just do not want to confuse anybody with my "confusing", "low quality" and "not interesting" and "horribly distorted" images. If these unique are rare images are not good to became FP, they for shure they are not good enough to be displayed at such a "reliable" source as Wikipedia is. No responce needed. Regards. --Mbz1 15:52, 28 July 2007 (UTC)Mbz1

berlin wall and giraffe

can you, please, be so kind and explain to me why berlin wal image is not encyclopedic and if it is not encyclopedic can you be so kind and request it to be deleted? Can you also please explain to me why you removed the talk page I've created at giraffe page. thanks.--Mbz1 23:40, 28 July 2007 (UTC)Mbz1

  • Thanks for the response.I wonder what description would you suggest for Berlin Wall image? I know you have not edit Giraffe talk page, but you took off link to it from Giraffe article. You could take a look at that talk page here talk page the last comment, where I was disputing the head of giraffe image. I believe that other image is much more interesting and really belongs to the Giraffe page. Thanks.--Mbz1 00:02, 29 July 2007 (UTC)Mbz1
    • I cannot agree with you that my image of giraffe has no place in article. Don't you think it will fit just right in "Reproduction" ,which describes babies giraffes. I do not suggest to remove any image from that section, but I do suggest to add mine too. It is more or less rare image and the only one of that kind on Wikipedia as much as I know. There is a place for it. I also believe that this not mine image is better for the description page, because it shows wild giraffes drinking water. I believe it is much better to show animals in the wild, if it is possible. On the other hand to learn about ossicones readers could just click at the link. I'm also not sure why I should ask you a permission to add an image to the page. Maybe you could explain it to me too?--Mbz1 02:28, 29 July 2007 (UTC)Mbz1

please stop harrasing me now

Listen, I'm very old and very sick woman. Please have a pity and please just leave me and my talk page alone and I promice never to put or delete another image to/from any page . Will you? By the way it is 2:20 AM in England now. Are you sure you are from England. No reply needed--Mbz1 01:25, 29 July 2007 (UTC)Mbz1

Happy now?

Let me spell it out. Please notice I added your name there too: I have left Wikipedia for good because of cruelty toward me by user Cacophony . I believe he could be using different IDs to drive one crazy like he did with me. Users Mgiganteus1 and fir0002 helped him in harassing me.wikipedia is not a friendly place. I asked him to stop harassing me. I told him that I was old and sick woman. Nothing helped.Be aware of user Cacophony and good luck with Wikipedia--Mbz1 04:39, 29 July 2007 (UTC)Mbz1

Thanks for the correction

Oops! Thanks for the correction in id and also for the move of the photos. I have many more if you are interested.

Profberger 04:51, 1 August 2007 (UTC)

I will. But tell me something. How does the upload I do, differ from uploading to wiki commons? I thought the images were available to everyone once I put them up?

Profberger 05:31, 1 August 2007 (UTC)

I added a gallery to your palau nautilus page. What do you think? I'll also begin transfering my many animal photos over to wiki commons.
