Cone sisters

Since you did such an excellent job on tweaking my article on Michigan logging wheels, I would like you to look over my latest new article on the Cone sisters. It is a ten-fold expansion of the previous article and I just self nominated it as a DYK. If you see any tweaking that needs done feel free to jump in -OR- if you have any other suggestions, just put them here on your talk page. I appreciate any help I can get from you. Thanks.--Doug talk 00:19, 14 March 2008 (UTC)

So far as I can tell, he is a really mobster. Notability is another question, but it doesn't seem to be "disparaging", as BLP forbids, just his resume, so to speak. -- Zanimum (talk) 18:26, 9 December 2008 (UTC)

The article looks pretty good on a very brief scan. You need to format the newspaper references correctly, using the cite news template, I would suggest putting it in the queue at WP:GAN and carry on working on it as the wait may be up to a month. Jezhotwells (talk) 18:34, 18 July 2009 (UTC)

Hi Mj – I will if I can get there in time, although it would need to continue into the late afternoon (I will be at work over in Worthing until 4.30pm). I'll keep an eye on the local press and see what I can do. Hassocks5489 (tickets please!) 22:05, 21 July 2009 (UTC)
I've booked a day off work, so will be able to get some shots of the parade. (Probably some video as well: I'll take the camcorder, although I don't know how to get the footage on to the computer yet!) Procession will be setting off from St Dunstan's at 1100, so I'll aim for a spot on the coast road, probably by the Marina/Roedean, for best views. Not sure if I can then get back to the church in time for anything after that, but I'll see what I can do. Hassocks5489 (tickets please!) 11:19, 28 July 2009 (UTC)

Congratulations on getting this to GA! I was so itchy to help adding refs etc. but thought best to leave it to you rather than tread on your toes. Well done! Thank you! SimonTrew (talk) 02:45, 27 August 2009 (UTC)

Kimi Raikkonen

Ah. Thanks for that. I was under the impression we were still operating on the countback system; if Button retired from every race and Raikkonen won all four, they'd both have eighty points, but I thought Raikkonen would have won it because he had the most recet victory. There's been a lot going on this season, so the changes are hard to keep track of. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Prisonermonkeys (talkcontribs) 07:29, 14 September 2009 (UTC)

I accept that if the date of birth is questionable (which is why it was fact tagged) it should be deleted until confirmed. However you elected to rv all the edits I made, categorizations, etc., which I am restoring. It's easier and faster to just rv to a prior edition, but better to change only those things which need to be changed. Rms125a@hotmail.com (talk) 18:16, 19 September 2009 (UTC)

Re:Joe Wilson

Well, the article seems to be surviving un-protection; it even had some decent content added by another IP. Admittedly, this was one biographic topic where the 24 hour news cycle sunk it's teeth in there for a while, but I've got a pretty good instinct about when the vandals have moved on to a new bauble. Indef is best kept to rare circumstances, imo. -- 209.6.238.201 (talk) 23:02, 27 September 2009 (UTC)

I'll say this as an "experienced" admin- we are wary of imposing protection, because that goes against the open editing model; conversely in my experience preemptive semi-protection would, in retrospect, have been a wise move. You can't win, in general, but given also that I have seen more experienced admins than I remove lengthy WP:BLP protections, only to see BLP vandalism recommence almost immediately, I am convinced that optimism is in some ways misplaced. Let's not forget that protection is still open to {{editsemiprotected}} or an request on the protecting admin's Talk page, and that is without an independent review on WP:RFPP. Rodhullandemu 23:24, 27 September 2009 (UTC)
I was only speaking to the case of this specific bio in this specific instance; since you don't cite your examples I can't speak to them. There are BLP's of the super-famous where I'd never dream of bothering WP:RFP about them, and bringing good faith discussion to the talk page is often enough to get the ball rolling for inaccuracies, new refs, etc. Even so, I don't think a six month or year long protection period presents an unreasonable burden for an administrative parole review, however brief, on merely semi-famous BLPs. Tomorrow, today's flash in the pan is more often than not yesterday's news. -- 209.6.238.201 (talk) 00:02, 28 September 2009 (UTC)

John Barnett Humphreys

Hello Mjroots, having you by chance some information about John Barnett Humphreys. Please have a look at de:John Barnett Humphreys. We have no information about the birthday, the live after return to England and the death of him. Thank you for help. --Beaverbear (talk) 18:54, 25 November 2009 (UTC)

Hopefully this is the right section. :) The problem with Charles Fryatt is that when the article was created it copied the contents of [1], which includes contents by two different writers from two different sources, neither of which would appear to be pd. The situation was discovered this morning, evidently, and listed at Wikipedia:Copyright problems/2009 December 9 by User:Jackyd101, who also noted the issue at Main Page/Errors. Evidently, the DYK hook was already on the front page at that time. User:Materialscientist said he would "try to fix that article in a moment" in response to the Main Page/Errors report, but I can't see that he did anything? He's a busy fellow, and nothing pops in his edit summaries. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 16:49, 9 December 2009 (UTC)

I understand the panic. I'd have felt the same way, I'm sure. :) I'm still a bit confused and kind of alarmed about how all of this went down. As far as I can tell, nothing was done to delink that copyvio from the front page even though an administrator was notified of it and acknowledged that notification hours before the DYK update. Obviously, this is no fault of yours (and I've have been pretty bummed to lose a DYK myself because somebody else violated copyright), but that doesn't shine a good light on the project--admins ignoring copyvios. I think I need to bring this up at DYK. :/ --Moonriddengirl (talk) 17:05, 9 December 2009 (UTC)
Oh, yes, the copyvio was nothing to do with you. I'm just shocked that somebody pointed it out and the complaint was archived without action. That was nothing to do with you, either. :) --Moonriddengirl (talk) 17:10, 9 December 2009 (UTC)
Just FYI, I've raised the matter here. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 17:16, 9 December 2009 (UTC)

←Wow! I'll say. :D Would you like me to go ahead and process it (being still an uninvolved admin and all)? Even if we get permission for the earlier text, we can just restore it under, since this is scads better. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 21:57, 9 December 2009 (UTC)

That's the main reason that I would do it, but, no, I don't think it would be a problem for you to do it yourself. It doesn't technically qualify for G12, since it doesn't meet the criteria. Generally, we'd keep it listed for a week at CP and then delete it under that criteria in the pull-down menu. But when a new article is written to replace an old one, I will usually delete the first under G6, with a note of explanation something like: "Copyright violation foundational. New article written to replace." (Only usually I'm sure I'm not that long-winded.) --Moonriddengirl (talk) 22:32, 9 December 2009 (UTC)

Excirial's POV, Seconds before the near miss.

Re your recent edit to the list, in what way was my edit Vandalism? What objection do you have to the only civilian female outright winner of the George Cross appearing on this list. No objection at all! It would seem that i reverted one revision to far when removing these vandalism edits, catching Barbara Jane Harrison as collateral damage. Stefan Kaufmann (musician)

Hi Mjroots! Thanks for sorting the Stefan Kaufmanns!

What about the articles which linked to the article on the musician before the move? Could they be altered by a bot, or do we have to change them manually one by one? It might be a good idea to get right on it, as all links to Stefan Kaufmann are probably meant to link to the musician presently, as his article has been named just Stefan Kaufmann until now - but this might change as links in articles which involve the other Stefan Kaufmanns are introduced eventually. I'm sure it's easier to make a program which alters all the links with no further conditions.

I'm not inclined to take up bot programming right now, so I would need some assistance if an automated procedure is to do the work. If changing links manually is the best option, I'm willing to do it.

If you don't know anything more than me about bots, just let me know and I'll move along on the issue. Thanks in advance for any help!--Odd M. Nilsen (talk) 11:40, 23 June 2010 (UTC)

Ellen Terry

Hold on thar, cowboy! You're pretty quick on the trigger. As I have now mentioned at the ANI, I am mystified by that edit I made. I must have mistakenly gone back to a much earlier version of the article by mistake. I certainly did not intend to delete all that text, images, etc. that I put in over a long period of time. I did not intend to delete the template that you inserted a second time, so I apologize about that. I still think the template doesn't belong there, but I was going to leave it alone because I didn't want to argue about it. My edit was intended to remove the "refimprove" tag, which I thought was out of date, and to make a couple other minor edits, but I messed up somehow. Best regards, and again, sorry for my sloppiness. -- Ssilvers (talk) 03:03, 24 November 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for the message. I'm no expert in navboxes, but I don't think this one is right. The purpose of the orphan tag is to get articles to link to other articles. The navbox artificially defeats the purpose by putting in false links to the navbox itself instead of by extending the net among articles. Also, the fact that Terry lived in Small Hythe, and the fact that it is near Tenterden is adequately represented by the links already in her article. The other stuff in the navbox is irrelevant to Terry. I'm not going to fight you on it, but I don't think it's right. I'm willing to wait and see what other editors say. All the best, though. -- Ssilvers (talk) 03:19, 24 November 2010 (UTC)

Isaac Bargrave

Is the Tenterden template justifiable in the article on Isaac Bargrave? He was vicar of tenterden for about 2 years, and probably non-resident. The banner at the foot of his page looks rather out of place to me, given all the other aspects of Bargrave's career which might be thought more important. There is a link to Tenterden in the text. As you are a Senior Editor, I am reluctant to roll backi your edit without consultation. Vidoue (talk) 11:50, 24 November 2010 (UTC)

Anthony Barnes Atkinson

I was just looking at AB Atkinson's page and it looked like you had added - {{Cranbrook}}. I think the link is here: [2]. I couldn't see why. Was it an error? I removed it - hope that is OK. Best wishes (Msrasnw (talk) 17:11, 30 November 2010 (UTC))

Having looked a bit more closely (which I should have done before) - he seems to be on your list Antony Atkinson (b 19??), economist... List_of_people_from_Cranbrook,_Kent#Old_Cranbrookians. But even so ... It seems a bit of a big box, and a bit obscure somehow - ot use it for this purpose specially as there is no any mention in the text about him at this school..... What do you think? Best wishes (Msrasnw (talk) 17:27, 30 November 2010 (UTC))
Oh dear - we are writing at both places! Does it really seem OK to have this template there without any mentioning anywhere about Cranbrook. (I hope I am not just being picky because I couldn't find its purpose.) Perhaps all such articles should have some mention - ie. Just a line that they attended the School - but would we need a ref for that??? Anyway sorry to have made a mess! (Msrasnw (talk) 17:35, 30 November 2010 (UTC))
I've put it back and an unsourced note but a link to the Cranbrook School list. Sorry for all the mess. But am still not sure it is a good idea. It might be a spur to getting extra biographical info though. (Msrasnw (talk) 10:21, 1 December 2010 (UTC))

Captain Muhammad Jalaluddin Sayeed

Oky I am done with the article. Feel free to tag the article now. And pass on any feedback. (Jalal0 (talk) 12:58, 7 February 2011 (UTC))

This is probably a stupid question but can a photograph of a statue be considered as a "reliable source". In reading up on Charles Nepean's football career, I have come across "R.S.F. Walker" who scored 4 goals in 3 matches in the pseudo-internationals, yet never seems to have played another notable match. On digging around, it seems that he was Robert Sandilands Frowd Walker, who went on to have a career in the military and became eminent in Malaya. So far, the only source that I can find for his birth details is on the photograph on this blog. I'll keep digging and see what else I can find. (At least the photo will narrow down the search parameters.) -- Daemonic Kangaroo (talk) 06:37, 20 February 2011 (UTC)

Thanks for the message - I must admit I was rather dubious about using the blog as a source although it all seems to check out against other sources. Unfortunately, I don't have access to The Times digital archives online; perhaps I should subscribe. I plan to write the article about Nepean shortly. (FWIW he was an a distant relative of Hugh Grant, the actor.) I'll keep looking for sources. Cheers. -- Daemonic Kangaroo (talk) 07:46, 18 February 2011 (UTC)

p.s. Seeing that there were absolutely no other references on the Lenham article, perhaps I should just have left my factoid as unreferenced, in keeping with the rest of the article. (Just joking!). Daemonic Kangaroo (talk) 07:49, 18 February 2011 (UTC)
I see I created the original article on Pelham von Donop just over 3 years ago. That's why I like writing article about footballers/cricketers from that era - they often had very interesting later careers. -- Daemonic Kangaroo (talk) 07:58, 18 February 2011 (UTC)

I will add the football career shortly; I needed to check a few things out first. Mainly, why he played for "Scotland" in the pseudo-internationals of 1870–1872. I can see nothing Scotish in his background. -- Daemonic Kangaroo (talk) 05:23, 20 February 2011 (UTC)

Still waiting on the decision about the image over on Commons, going slow. Canadian Paul is going to wait until after the funeral service today (Tuesday) at 4pm EDT before re-reviewing the article, so it remains on hold for 7 days. Felipe Camiroaga

As Camiroaga isn't legally dead, his body hasn't been found and at the moment is only "disappeared", I urge you to not mark his article as a recent death, nor to call him "dead". You are violating the biographies of living people policy by doing that, and additionally, you could be sued if Camiroaga turns out to be alive. None of the bodies have been identified yet, take that into account too.  Diego  talk  19:56, 3 September 2011 (UTC)

Hi Mjroots. Why do you say this is standard info for inclusion? Thanks, Eddaido (talk) 10:36, 5 November 2011 (UTC)

I don't mind in the least that the infobox shows he had four kids - shows he was (apparently) biologically technically fertile though I'm blessed if I can see why it matters to a reader. Article about Radha Thomas

I am currently working on the Wiki page for Ms Radha Thomas. She is an Indian jazz singer and songwriter. In fact, she is known as a diva in the Indian jazz scene. She previously was with the band Human Bondage and has sung and performed globally. The article is still under development. I haven't completed it or submitted it for review yet. You can have a look at it at: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia_talk:Articles_for_creation/Radha_Thomas. Thanks for trying. Great to see such important real world news taking centre stage yet again. Martinevans123 (talk) 14:09, 30 October 2014 (UTC)

Hi again. I was wondering if you'd had any response at wp:cz about the class of the Order of the White Lion awarded to Winton? Although I have more or less given up on the ITN nomination, I'm still intrigued. The report at PrageuPost suggests that both awards were made at the same class, but does not explicitly. I'v also scoured all of the top Google hits in Czech (with the help of Google translate!) but have drawn a blank. As User talk:Fuebaey has pointed out, we don't to seem to have any reliable sources yet for the class. One imagines that there would be a Czech Government website somewhere that would put this matter beyond doubt. Many thanks anyway. Martinevans123 (talk) 09:00, 1 November 2014 (UTC)
Oh well, at least we found out it was a Class 1, the same as Churchill's. So some satisfaction. Now the ITN nomination has timed out and dropped off the queue, of course, so any difference in consensus makes no difference, I guess. Hope you are well. Peter Cazalet

Nice article there. Might be worth trying to find a DYK? from it - maybe the fact about him teaching Elizabeth Taylor to ride possibly? Can you check something from his military career? Article says he was potentially recommended for a Military Medal, but I would imagine by that point Cazalet was already an office and would have been line for a Military Cross - could you have a look at your source to check it? --Bcp67 (talk) 15:07, 19 March 2015 (UTC)

Source is online and states Military Medal. As for DYK, that one would work, as would Albert Roux being his personal chef. Mjroots (talk) 18:02, 19 March 2015 (UTC)
OK I can see what's happened with the source there, having read the online article from The Guards Magazine now - the recommendation of the MM refers to a different soldier, a Guardsman - eligible for the Military Medal. Cazalet was the soldier's CO - "Two days later at a laager on a German farm, Gdsm Cumbley’s squadron commander, Peter Cazalet, called him in and told him he would be recommended for an award, but despite a letter of recommendation to Lt Col Windsor Lewis, he was to be disappointed; there was no Military Medal". I'm going to remove the mention from the article. Agree about Albert Roux too, I might nominate this for DYK with a couple of Alt hooks. --Bcp67 (talk) 18:40, 19 March 2015 (UTC)
@Bcp67: - no problem, thanks. If you nominate for DYK you won't need to do a QPQ. Mjroots (talk) 19:27, 19 March 2015 (UTC)
Thank you. I think they've changed the rules lately and anyone nominating has to do a QPQ, it's no problem as I've done a few DYK reviews here and there. --Bcp67 (talk) 19:33, 19 March 2015 (UTC)

I've done about as much as I think his cricket career warrants. I'm not sure I believe the story about him turning down the captaincy of Kent for his horse-racing interests: Percy Chapman, as an ex-England captain, was pretty well-ensconced in the job for as long as he wanted it, and Bryan Valentine, a far better cricketer than Cazalet, played fairly regularly and acted as Chapman's deputy for the times whenever the great man's conviviality got in the way of his ability to do the job, which happened more and more across the 1930s. Does the local reference give a date when this captaincy offer took place? Johnlp (talk) 23:27, 21 March 2015 (UTC)

Thanks. I think that's probably wise. It may well be that he was encouraged to make the couple of appearances for Kent in the 1932 season, as they probably remembered his 150 for them in 1928; but it didn't really work out. I'm surprised that he didn't play for Oxford at all after he was dropped in 1928, not even in the trial match for 1929: could it be that he left the university after two years and didn't finish his degree? Over to you to delve some more if you wish. Johnlp (talk) 10:36, 22 March 2015 (UTC)

Hi Can you look at Murder of Rachael Runyan and do a grammar/proofread? Your help would be appreciated. Paul Benjamin Austin (talk) 09:43, 28 January 2019 (UTC)

Done. Acad Ronin (talk) 12:32, 2 February 2019 (UTC)

Hi, while this has been the subject of a lot of back and forth edits, the controversy section of the page is not contentious. The subject or people on their behalf are trying to conceal something that is true and supported by citations. I do not think the content violates the wikipedia policy on biographies of living persons. It would be good to reinstate the content and keep the lock! Jpkeates (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 12:46, 20 December 2019 (UTC)

Please could you check the Talk page now @Mjroots? We have achieved consensus and noted that the original deletion appears very likely to have been effectuated by the subject himself. This is clearly disallowed by Wikipedia rules.Innovative Username (talk) 16:00, 20 December 2019 (UTC)

On access to newspaper archives; yes, it's useful to know that. Although my local library closed 15 years ago, I will check out an alternative (in Surrey) about 20 minutes away. I don't begrudge the subscription. It won't be wasted because I'm an incurable geneaholic, and it also found the secondary source needed yesterday for 'Mad' Tom Manning. The DNB tells me that before travelling to Somerset he pulled his own beard out by the roots. Supplying references on Wikipedia may be less painful.

Love your articles on ships. My ancestors sailed. Have found User:Acad Ronin helpful also.

Love your articles on mills. I inherit paintings.
