The Copyright Inquisitor's Sword

Field Marshal Money's Sword
I humbly offer the CEO of CCI this sword - highly ornamented but still-guaranteed to dice up copyvios. Please wield it in defense of the Encyclopedia from copyright violators, their works, and in the leadership of the Inquisition. ♠Vami_IV†♠ 21:04, 5 April 2021 (UTC)

Favor

Hey. Are you willing to block a vandal I reported to AIV? He attacked me be writing my name in an article. It is on Byron Moreno Scorpions13256 (talk) 04:52, 13 April 2021 (UTC)

Scorpions13256, blocked. Moneytrees🏝️Talk/CCI guide 04:59, 13 April 2021 (UTC)
Thank you so much. I really appreciate it. Scorpions13256 (talk) 05:00, 13 April 2021 (UTC)

Amazon copying Wikipedia?

Or an editor copying Amazon? That seems a bit more likely in this case. Whilst looking at the Ruigeroeland CCI, I found that their version of Dames in de Dop was fine. Then I looked at the most recent version. Whoops. That's been there since 2008. What do you think? BlackcurrantTea (talk) 09:17, 12 April 2021 (UTC)

BlackcurrantTea, I can't definitively say but I'm pretty confident it's a mirror. Moneytrees🏝️Talk/CCI guide 17:50, 12 April 2021 (UTC)
Ok, thanks. Back to the moths. BlackcurrantTea (talk) 05:54, 13 April 2021 (UTC)

I made an honest mistake and I apologize for my recent edits on the Major League Baseball on NBC article

What I did as an editor, was that I being very negligent and not careful enough with my phrasing and again, I sincerely apologize for my misjudgment. You already warned me to not do such a thing further, I don't think that there's any reason to block an editor immediately thereafter if they aren't continuing editing inappropriately. BornonJune8 (talk) 11:26, 13 April 2021 (UTC)

I wasn't deliberately trying to ignore you when I archived your message. I don't know what else you want me to do in regards to acknowledging your message. If you interpret that way, then I apologize for behaving so hastily. I read it and I'm well aware that what I did was inappropriate and I am trying to do my best to learn from my mistake. Copyright issue at Maasai people

Hello. Apologies if I should be posting this somewhere else. If I should, please do tell me/direct me and I'll take this to the appropriate location.

I don't completely understand the template that you posted, hiding the text of the bulk of the article, at Maasai people. Is it that someone has made a copyright claim against that text? Or is it that some certain portion of it (or a past edit) is somehow involved in a copyright claim?

If it's about the bulk of the article itself, looking at the archive.org archives for climbkili dot com, it's pretty clear the linked archived page appeared right around the date of that earliest archive: in that linked archive ([1]), the page exists in the navigation, under "Safari, etc.", but does not appear in the navigation for that website in the archive from a month before: [2].

Checking the Wikipedia page's history, it's pretty clear the page's text existed in basically in this form prior to the date of the archive of climbkili. Here it is on June 3, 2010: [3].

--Pinchme123 (talk) 19:41, 19 April 2021 (UTC)

Pinchme123, No it's fine, please ask here. I was doing something else when I blanked the article and hadn't looked into it that much, thanks for your analysis. I think that proves that the website is a mirror, so I'll remove the tag. The article still needs evaluation in the context of Wikipedia:Contributor copyright investigations/20100912, so I'll leave the the listing at Wikipedia:Copyright problems/2021 April 19. Moneytrees🏝️Talk/CCI guide 04:16, 20 April 2021 (UTC)
Glad I could be of assistance, at least a little bit. I don't know much about how copyright investigations work, otherwise I'd try to help with the further issues. Anyway, glad to get at list this little bit straightened out. --Pinchme123 (talk) 05:21, 20 April 2021 (UTC)
For what it's worth, I will get there eventually as I work my way through that CCI. ♠PMC(talk) 20:43, 20 April 2021 (UTC)

Copyvio at Killing of Ma'Khia Bryant

Hi, Regarding your edit summary for the article Killing of Ma'Khia Bryant,

"I did an emergency operation to remove some copyvio from https://www.dispatch.com/story/news/local/2021/04/21/makhia-bryant-columbus-police-discuss-shooting-body-camera-video/7318569002/ ; the phrasing is a little awkward so please feel free to change"

What part of The Columbus Dispatch article was copyright violated? Bob K31416 (talk) 22:30, 26 April 2021 (UTC)

Bob K31416, I bolded the parts of it that were copied from the article: "A second 911 call, placed around 4:48 p.m., resulted in the caller hanging up after seeing a police cruiser on the scene. Reardon's body camera footage showed what played out when he arrived on the scene. There were multiple people in the driveway of the home, including Bryant with a knife in her hand. She moves towards a young woman who falls backwards to the ground at the officer's feet, and is then kicked by a man. Bryant then moves towards another woman who is up against the hood of a sedan parked in the driveway. Bryant then moves the knife in a motion that appears to be an attempt to stab the second woman. Reardon is heard saying "Get down" multiple times and then fires his weapon." Moneytrees🏝️Talk/CCI guide 00:17, 27 April 2021 (UTC)
Thanks. Could you restore accessibility to the revision history? Bob K31416 (talk) 01:42, 27 April 2021 (UTC)
(talk page stalker) Hi Bob K31416, since it was a blatant copyvio, the short answer is no, Money can't. Long version, it's a copyright violation that is fairly blatant and recent. It is also likely to be restored by other members if editors can see what exactly was removed and must be hidden. (please correct me if I'm wrong) Sennecaster (What now?) 02:50, 27 April 2021 (UTC)
Pardon me, and without going into it, I think you're wrong about the revision history. Bye. Bob K31416 (talk) 04:25, 27 April 2021 (UTC)
Bob K31416, I can't per the reasons Sennecaster provided, also GorillaWarfare is the one who removed accessibility, and I would like to hear from her first before I undo an admin action she made. Moneytrees🏝️Talk/CCI guide 02:57, 27 April 2021 (UTC)
Thanks for the info. I mistakenly thought you were the one. It's looking like the revision history won't be restored by any effort I'm willing to undertake (although I think it should) so I'll just stop here. Regards, Bob K31416 (talk) 04:25, 27 April 2021 (UTC)
Bob K31416, maybe I could still help you. Are there any specific edits you want to know the content of? Moneytrees🏝️Talk/CCI guide 04:28, 27 April 2021 (UTC)
I truly appreciate the offer but for now I don't have any. Bob K31416 (talk) 04:37, 27 April 2021 (UTC)
Thanks for the ping, Moneytrees. Looks like this has been resolved, but feel free to ping again if I'm mistaken. GorillaWarfare (talk) 14:41, 27 April 2021 (UTC)

Just to double check

Hello M. I saw your post on SV's talk page and I am devastated. Please forgive me as I posted about this here Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard#Notice just to make sure that the proper steps will be taken regarding this. I am not doubting your news but I have seen a couple editors chastised over this and I don't want that to happen here. MarnetteD|Talk 00:15, 9 May 2021 (UTC)

Protection needed

Hey so many IP and some autocomfirmed users are adding unsourced material in the 2021 North Indian Ocean cyclone season article, so can you protect this page ? Beraniladri19 🌀🌀 06:29, 16 May 2021 (UTC)

Beraniladri19, Some new users are committing copyright Violation, so temporary protection is necessary. Dam222 🌋 (talk) 09:03, 16 May 2021 (UTC)

Dam222, Yeah, and these aren't IP users they were autoconfirmed users. Pls impose temporary extended confirmed protection policy Beraniladri19 🌀🌀 09:04, 16 May 2021 (UTC)
It has fewer autoconfirmed users performing disruptive editing, so it does not require extended confirmed level of protection. Dam222 🌋 (talk) 09:32, 16 May 2021 (UTC)
Dam222, But their strategy will be simple. Once it will be semi-protected, these IP vandals will create their vandal accounts and then they will vandalise the crap out of it. So what's the point of semi-protecting better to do extended confirmed protection Beraniladri19 🌀🌀 10:18, 16 May 2021 (UTC)

SonOfBabylon1 vandalising Kuwait related pages

Dear Wikipedia administrator, the user User:SonOfBabylon1 is vandalizing various Kuwait related pages, distorting reliable sources, misrepresenting historical facts, reshaping articles to suit his own views. His edits are largely disruptive. He has been reverting edits on so many Kuwait-related pages. He violates Wikipedia:Ownership of content (he thinks he owns the Wikipedia articles), he refuses to deal with edit warring in the talk page, he has been vandalizing Kuwait related pages for far too long. Kindly take a look at his editing history and overall contributions to Wikipedia. He has been accused of disruptive behavior several times (based on his talk page) and he has been warned before. Please help. This user is violating many Wikipedia rules.— Preceding unsigned comment added by 37.39.145.247 (talkcontribs)

rfa debriefing

Hey, Moneytrees. I would very much like to include the discussion of your really useful RfA debriefing in Category:Wikipedia RfA debriefings but I'm not sure how to do that unless you create a page? I'm not sure it needs to include all the discussion, maybe just your original essay? Or if you have some other solution, wide open to it! :) —valereee (talk) 18:28, 2 June 2021 (UTC)

Valereee, Sure, I've created it at User:Moneytrees/My RFA. Moneytrees🏝️Talk/CCI guide 21:33, 2 June 2021 (UTC)

Removal of information

You've removed information I added to Perry County, Alabama for certain reasons. I don't care that you removed it, but do readers the curtesy of including the content in a way that satisfies wikipedia. I'm not experienced in making the necessary references, but the content is appropriate when trying to learn about the history of the county. I couldn't find it there myself, which forced me to look elsewhere. When I did find it, it was helpful. I'm sure others would feel the same. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.211.157.9 (talk) 19:05, 4 June 2021 (UTC)

Peter1170

Dear Moneytree, I would like to apologize for my disturbing edits, last few days I was reading more about Wikipedia copyright policy and I understand it much more. I would like to ask you for unblocking me to prove you and other admins I can be better editor who respecting all rules.Peter1170 (talk) 22:27, 5 June 2021 (UTC)

It looks like this has been open since 2019 - I might be able to help with some of this, as I'm familiar and do a lot of my article writing on subject matter related to the ACW ones. Is there a crash source for CCI anywhere (I've never done anything with CCI before). Noting that while I have the mop, I am unlikely to do any RD1s unless it's really blatant or any G12s at all (see my RFA for why). Hog Farm Talk 17:17, 17 June 2021 (UTC)

(talk page stalker) (Non-administrator comment) @Hog Farm: User:Moneytrees/CCI guide, User:Sennecaster/CCI guide and Wikipedia:Contributor copyright investigations/Instructions are some resources. I'm not extremely active with CCI, so if somebody who's more experienced has a better answer, that's awesome. 🐶 EpicPupper (he/him | talk, FAQ, contribs) 03:32, 21 June 2021 (UTC)
Thanks. Will try to read through those (probably during lunch break at work tomorrow). Hopefully I can start taking a look at the copyright stuff over next weekend. Hog Farm Talk 03:35, 21 June 2021 (UTC)

A beer for you!

Thanks! Drmies (talk) 14:43, 27 June 2021 (UTC)

There is massive copyvio to the artist's website [5]. I went back to September 2015 and found a version that doesn't plagiarize that site, but it's very close to another site that I don't know anything about. Are they copying from us? —valereee (talk) 13:06, 10 July 2021 (UTC)

Hey Valereee, sorry I couldn't get to this before, I was visiting some family and then got caught up in some wiki stuff (see my recent edits)... it looks like the articles clean now, but I would bet that that site copied from us. Archive.org only shows the article in 2020, and BBC radio has also copied artists biographies from us in the past, so it would make sense to me if Dutch radio station NPO Radio 2 would simply copy from us instead of writing a whole biography for an artist who they probably only play a few songs from. Moneytrees🏝️Talk/CCI guide 03:01, 12 July 2021 (UTC)
No worries at all, I saw that someone else took out the worst of it, figured they understood it better than I did. :) What is the significance of the wayback machine only showing a 2020 version?
And, oh, that's an interesting one. Is that popcorn I smell? —valereee (talk) 11:43, 12 July 2021 (UTC)
(talk page watcher) That page had foundational copyvio from here (cited in the first revision). I've rev-deleted the earlier history too. Regards, Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 12:11, 12 July 2021 (UTC)
Valereee, When the archives of the page are more recent or there aren't any, that's usually an indication that it's a newer webpage. The Wayback Machine's archive dates are not an entirely reliable way to determine when the website first appeared, it's sort of like circumstantial evidence. It becomes stronger evidence given the further context. Moneytrees🏝️Talk/CCI guide 22:15, 12 July 2021 (UTC)
Got it. I was wondering whether it might mean they'd scrubbed their own archives because they'd discovered a copyvio. —valereee (talk) 01:10, 13 July 2021 (UTC)

Please explain these revision deletions. Would you be open to undoing them? If not, please explain your reasoning. 78.28.44.31 (talk) 04:12, 19 July 2021 (UTC)

I would not be open to undoing the revision deletions, as they contained external links to websites Wikipedia should not link to, and it was essentially spam written by a now WMF banned user. Moneytrees🏝️Talk/CCI guide 00:31, 21 July 2021 (UTC)

check my work?

At Kishwar Chowdhury; there was apparent massive copyvio in first edit, which I removed and (I hope correctly) revdel'd. Sorry to ask, I'm hoping to eventually feel confident enough with this that I'm a net positive for copyvio workers. :D —valereee (talk) 17:22, 19 July 2021 (UTC)

(talk page stalker) Valereee, Hey! I can't check the edit since I'm not an admin, so I'll leave it for Money, but thanks for your recent work on copyvios. It's nice to see more people helping out! Thanks again! Signed,The4lines |||| (Talk) (Contributions) 18:52, 19 July 2021 (UTC)
Thanks, @The4lines, I know copyvio is understaffed, so while I don't think I'll ever be a copyvio expert, I'd like to at least be helping occasionally. :) —valereee (talk) 19:07, 19 July 2021 (UTC)
(talk page stalker) not sure if the removal itself is correct, not admin, but most RD1s exclude the revision of the last removal (just to nitpick for the future) Like 4lines, thank you for helping out in copyright work! I think you'll do fine :). Sennecaster (What now?) 15:22, 20 July 2021 (UTC)
@Sennecaster, sorry for being dense, but is there a way you can show me what you mean by exclude the revision of the last removal. And, er, what is "RD1"? :D —valereee (talk) 16:29, 20 July 2021 (UTC)
Valereee, I think Senne means leaving the most recent revision where the copyvio was removed visible (as it won’t have any infringing content in it), although personally I don’t think this matters. And RD1 is WP:RD1 - it gets used as a shorthand for “revdel” at CCI. Another CCIer thankful for more admin assistance :) firefly ( t · c ) 16:58, 20 July 2021 (UTC)
@Valereee: The first one is the revdel category/type of revdel. It's like G12 but for revdelete, and CAT:RD1 will take you to all copyright revdel requests due to the naming. As for excluding, the revision where you removed all of the copyrighted text would be excluded from your revdel. If there is more than one removal (sometimes removers will split it up over multiple edits due to sections or running out of room in the edit summary for the sources), it would be the last revision where text is being removed that is excluded. This was explained to me by Earwig off-wiki, so he could probably do it better :P Sennecaster (What now?) 17:01, 20 July 2021 (UTC)
That's right. So this revision did not need to be revdel'd, but this one immediately before it did. The reason to care is so that this diff with no infringing content is still visible to non-admins, unless you actually meant to hide it as well for other reasons. — The Earwig (talk) 23:51, 20 July 2021 (UTC)
So should I go back and (gulp) revert the revdel for just that one? —valereee (talk) 16:25, 21 July 2021 (UTC)

Wow the whole gang showed up for this one... but yeah they basically said anything I'd say. Thanks all. Moneytrees🏝️Talk/CCI guide 00:48, 21 July 2021 (UTC)
