July 2019[edit]

Information icon Hello, MonicaG1989. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about in the page Matty Cardarople, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a COI may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the COI guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

  • avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, company, organization or competitors;
  • propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (you can use the {{request edit}} template);
  • disclose your COI when discussing affected articles (see WP:DISCLOSE);
  • avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see WP:SPAM);
  • do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.

In addition, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation (see WP:PAID).

Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. Also see: Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure --Orange Mike | Talk 23:56, 3 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

There have been two problems with this account: the account has been used for advertising or promotion, which is contrary to the purpose of Wikipedia, and your username indicates that the account represents a business or other organisation or group or a web site, which is also against policy, as an account must be for just one person. Because of those problems, the account has been blocked indefinitely from editing. Additionally, if you receive, or expect to receive, compensation for your contributions to Wikipedia, you must disclose who is paying you to edit.

If you intend to make useful contributions about some topic other than your business or organisation, you may request an unblock. To do so, post the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with a new username you are willing to use. See Special:CentralAuth to search for available usernames. Your new username will need to meet our username policy. Replace the text "Your reason here" with your reason to be unblocked. In that reason, you must:

  • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the kind of edits for which you were blocked.
  • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
If you believe this block was made in error, you may appeal this block. To do so, please read the guide to appealing blocks, then add the text {{unblock|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page, replace the text "Your reason here" with your reason for thinking that the block was an error, and publish the page. My apologies; I didn't fully read the policy regarding usernames; I was merely trying to verify my identity.

Decline reason:

I've reblocked you for sockpuppetry. — JJMC89(T·C) 02:44, 4 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Request reason:

I am confused about what is necessary to disclose myself as a paid contributor (freelance writer); if you look at the edits I attempted to make, you'll see that they aren't excessive and that I've provided citations for every claim; can you please spell out what I need to do to so that you can unblock me and allow me to publish my edits?

Decline reason:

You are an associate of him if he is paying you or hired you to edit the Wikipedia article about him. Please also read about conflict of interest; since he is paying you, you should not edit about him directly, you may make edit requests on the article talk page. You will need to indicate that you understand these policies and describe what future edits you want to make, including discussing if you intend to edit for pay for any others. This request also does not address your sockpuppetry(use of multiple accounts). I am declining this request. 331dot (talk) 10:08, 4 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

This user's unblock request has been reviewed by an administrator, who accepted the request.

Request reason:

I read the conflict of interest article again, and I believe I understand it now. I do not have any plans, nor do I have any interest, in ever editing Wikipedia again, whether paid or unpaid. I will make edit requests on his page. I'm not sure how you want to address the sockpuppet issue, but I now understand that this isn't allowed and promise to not do it again. I'm not trying to cause undue disruption; I'm simply naive about Wikipedia procedures, and frankly, I can't believe my donations have been supporting policing of well-researched, sourced edits to this platform. Please unblock me.

Accept reason:

Hi Monica, I've unblocked your account. Thanks for taking the time to review the conflict of interest guidelines and policies around creating multiple accounts, providing a disclosure statement above (I've added this to your userpage), and for agreeing to make edit requests to Talk:Matty Cardarople in the future. I believe you when you say that you did not intend to act disruptively, and I know this has been frustrating for you, and I'd like to see where I can help here. It is really important to follow the above-mentioned guidelines related to having a conflict of interest or when you are being paid to edit Wikipedia, even if your content is sourced, because these situations have typically resulted in content that conflicts with our editorial policies. If you would like, I can review your edit requests on Talk:Matty Cardarople when you are ready. I JethroBT drop me a line 21:08, 4 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
