Disambiguation link notification for May 19

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited List of major crimes in Singapore, you added links pointing to the disambiguation pages Thai and Sri Lankan (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

It's OK to remove this message. Also, to stop receiving these messages, follow these opt-out instructions. Thanks, DPL bot (talk) 10:06, 19 May 2020 (UTC)

Information icon Hi NelsonLee20042020! I noticed that you recently marked an edit as minor at Andrew Road triple murders that may not have been. "Minor edit" has a very specific definition on Wikipedia – it refers only to superficial edits that could never be the subject of a dispute, such as typo corrections or reverting obvious vandalism. Any edit that changes the meaning of an article is not a minor edit, even if it only concerns a single word. Please see Help:Minor edit for more information. Capital punishment in Singapore and edit summaries

Thank you for your many contributions to Capital punishment in Singapore. But, I notice that you never include an edit summary. For example, your edit of 12:42, 10 August 2020 could have been summarized as something like

April 1994 abolition of appeals to the Judicial Committee of the Privy Council in London for criminal and civil matters

and it would be helpful if the page history included such descriptions instead of literally nothing.

Also, in the past few days, I have edited this article several times, repeatedly enhancing refs along these lines:

  • my edit of 4:22, 10 August 2020
    {{Cite web|title=The Best I Could S2|url=https://www.mewatch.sg/en/series/the-best-i-could-s2/ep8/312769|access-date=2020-05-20|website=meWATCH}} : "The Best I Could S2". meWATCH. Retrieved 2020-05-20.
    {{Cite AV media |title=The Best I Could S2 |date=3 November 2014 |publisher=Love vs Hate |via=meWATCH |url=https://www.mewatch.sg/en/series/the-best-i-could-s2/ep8/312769 |access-date=2020-05-20}} : The Best I Could S2. Love vs Hate. 3 November 2014. Retrieved 2020-05-20 – via meWATCH.

But then you went ahead and edited along these lines:

I don't think this is correct. The website "meWatch" appears to be, like YouTube, a site where others can post content, and therefore it gets the "via" parameter, not the "website" parameter. The actual publisher appears to be Channel 5. And you omitted the very important "date" parameter, which is given right there as 5 February 2016. Also, when the information is audio-visual, one is supposed to used {{Cite AV media}}, not {{Cite web}}.

Would you kindly edit Capital punishment in Singapore again and change this to something like

{{Cite AV media |title=True Files S3 - EP6: Death on Pulau Ubin |date=5 February 2016 |publisher=Channel 5 |via=meWATCH |url=https://www.mewatch.sg/en/series/true-files-s3/ep6/367508 |access-date=2020-04-22}} : True Files S3 - EP6: Death on Pulau Ubin. Channel 5. 5 February 2016. Retrieved 2020-04-22 – via meWATCH.

or perhaps even better

{{Cite episode |title=Death on Pulau Ubin |url=https://www.mewatch.sg/en/series/true-files-s3/ep6/367508 |series=[[True Files]] |network=[[Channel 5 (Singapore)|Channel 5]] |date=5 February 2016 |season=3 |via=meWATCH |series-no= |number=6 |minutes= |time= |transcript= |transcript-url= |quote= |language=}} : "Death on Pulau Ubin". True Files. Season 3. Episode 6. 5 February 2016. Channel 5 – via meWATCH.

and include an edit summary something like

Improve reference: {{Cite web}} → {{cite AV media}}, provide date and correct title and publisher

or

Improve reference: {{Cite web}} → {{Cite episode}}, provide date and correct title, etc.

Your long-winded essay on Changi Prison is too long, too detailed. I had indicated that it is WP:NOTNEWS. Prisoners die in prison, whether intended or not. Was there foul play? No, and thus doesn't need to be that long winded. Don't slide in a biography into such article as well, it is not relevant to Changi Prison. – robertsky (talk) 09:57, 23 December 2020 (UTC)

Additional comments: If the incident is notable, as well as the original case which the poor guy was sentenced for, then it deserves to be a separate article. Otherwise, just a couple of sentences summarising what happened should do. e.g. filling in words in between these keywords should do: kidnap -> death row -> suicide -> no foul play. – robertsky (talk) 10:13, 23 December 2020 (UTC)

Continued incorrect use of "minor" edits

Hello NelsonLee20042020, thank you for your continued work on improving articles here at Wikipedia. I noticed a recent edit of yours was incorrectly tagged as a minor edit. Any edit which adds new information to an article is not minor, minor edits are small edits which do not change the meaning of the article in any way (correcting typos and punctuation for example). I can see that you have been warned about this several times already [1][2][3]. Please try to improve on this. If you have any questions feel free to let me know. Greyjoy talk 09:16, 5 January 2021 (UTC)

Categorising redirects

Noticed that you have created a bunch of redirects to redirect names of criminals to murder pages. Do not categorise redirects with mainspace categories. These should be be sorted into "maintenance" categories wherever possible. See Wikipedia:Categorizing redirects. – robertsky (talk) 01:34, 12 January 2021 (UTC)

ok thank you for the reminder. but how do such issues get sorted out? NelsonLee20042020 (talk) 03:37, 12 January 2021 (UTC)

By issues, you mean the redirects? There are a lot of "maintenance" categories to remember. Instead, I use a userscript, User:Wugapodes/Capricorn to find and select the appropriate categories. – robertsky (talk) 08:44, 12 January 2021 (UTC)

Direct, reliable sources needed for Days of the Year pages

You're probably not aware of this change, but Days of the Year pages now require direct reliable sources for additions. For details see the content guideline, the WikiProject Days of the Year style guide or the edit notice on any DOY page. Almost all new additions without a reliable source as a reference are now being reverted on-sight.

Please do not add new additions to these pages without direct sources as the burden to provide them is on the editor who adds or restores material to these pages.

Yishun triple murders

Hello NelsonLee20042020. Thank you for creating great articles on the criminal cases of Singapore.

Regarding your edit to Wang Zhijian's fate, you need to provide a source on his execution. Wikipedia policy does not allow speculation, not even if it's a near certainty. It must be confirmed. Thank you. Seloloving (talk) 12:33, 25 April 2021 (UTC)

Understand, Seloloving. Thanks. Its just weird and does not make sense that a man would not be executed even after so many years since he lost his appeal NelsonLee20042020 (talk) 12:35, 25 April 2021 (UTC)
Yes indeed. But until there is official news on the case, we are unable to jump the gun and claim that he has been executed. His fate might eventually be released as ST tends to run factoids on past cases every now and then. All the best. Seloloving (talk) 12:40, 25 April 2021 (UTC)

ok NelsonLee20042020 (talk) 12:44, 25 April 2021 (UTC)

Bunch of Murder AfDs

Hey Nelson, just a heads up that I'm nominating a few of your articles for deletion. Nothing personal, obviously, but some of them have already been deleted before if you were unaware, i.e. Liu Hong Mei & Darren Ng. The state of sourcing hasn't seemed to have changed much in 8 years but consensus on AfD might be different now. Here's hoping! In general you've done some great work, though the detail in most of the murder articles might border on excessive. Kingoflettuce (talk) 12:51, 24 July 2021 (UTC)

Nelson. I will look into helping you to clean up your articles in the near future. Kingoflettuce is right that many of them do not meet encyclopedic standards. Some of the proposed deletions I agree with, some not. But we will see how it goes and start a cleanup once the AfDs are over. Seloloving (talk) 06:36, 28 July 2021 (UTC)

ok noted. thanks NelsonLee20042020 (talk) 08:47, 28 July 2021 (UTC)

Photo copyright

Hey Nelson, please be careful of non-free media which you are uploading. This is not an identification of a person. Seloloving (talk) 03:15, 7 September 2021 (UTC)

Sorry seloloving, then what to do? --NelsonLee20042020 (talk) 03:25, 7 September 2021 (UTC)

Nelson, to make it simple, please only upload images where
a) it's used to provide identification of a deceased person. AND
b) the photo was not taken by a press agency which may have a commercial interest in selling the photo. (aka news media, ST, CNA, etc) OR
c) where the photo itself is famous and subjected to longlasting media coverage, such as Tankman.
Kallang slashing crime scene fails a) as it's not used as an identification of a deceased person, b) because it's taken by a press agency who will have a commercial interest in licensing the photo for reuse and c) because it's itself not a famous photo.
I understand these rules may be frustrating, and yes, the guide can be a little long. I hope this summary is enough to have given you a better understanding of Wikipedia's use of non-free photos. Seloloving (talk) 09:36, 7 September 2021 (UTC)
Nelson, you cannot upload the photo of Tony Imba or Kim Hyon-hui as these individuals are still alive. Only photos of deceased people can be uploaded under the non-free media criteria. I would heavily suggest reading Wikipedia:Non-free_content#Images before uploading any further photos.
Please be very careful to ensure that the photos of people you upload are already deceased (imprisoned does not count) and that it was not taken by a press agency.
If possible, you may clarify with me on my talkpage all the photos you wish to upload, as repeated copyright infringement (even unintended) may lead to an administrator's intervention. Seloloving (talk) 03:56, 11 September 2021 (UTC)
Nelson. Please stop uploading photos at the moment. You cannot upload 1, 2, and 3. You have already uploaded 4 to identify her, and ONLY ONE photo can be used for identification. I need you to read Wikipedia:Non-free_content#Images, and clarify with me any doubts. Please acknowledge this. Regards. Seloloving (talk) 03:14, 13 September 2021 (UTC)

ok sure it feels confusing, like this is this and that is that, not the other this is this and the other that is that NelsonLee20042020 (talk) 03:21, 13 September 2021 (UTC)

I understand it's confusing, and share your frustration about copyright laws and restrictions in place, but we have no choice. We have to adhere to this, which was why I requested you to ask clarify with me before uploading any photos.
I would like to request you to stop uploading photos for the moment, while I create a flowchart for you to follow in future. Seloloving (talk) 03:23, 13 September 2021 (UTC)

Ok fine. seloloving. but why you did not propose to delete the cross? NelsonLee20042020 (talk) 03:25, 13 September 2021 (UTC)

The file File:Nagaenthran K. Dharmalingam.jpg has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Subject is due to be hanged but not dead yet - fails non-free media rationale.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated files}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the file's talk page.

Please consider addressing the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated files}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and files for discussion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Hello Nelson, please refer to the guide on uploading images that I have shown you in the past. The subject is still alive and as events have shown, uploading photos prematurely before their deaths will fail the non-free media rationale. On the other hand, great work on the article so far. Replaceable fair use File:Kim Seon-ho.jpg

Thanks for uploading File:Kim Seon-ho.jpg. I noticed that this file is being used under a claim of fair use. However, I think that the way it is being used fails the first non-free content criterion. This criterion states that files used under claims of fair use may have no free equivalent; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Wikipedia. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the file description page and add the text {{Di-replaceable fair use disputed|<your reason>}} below the original replaceable fair use template, replacing <your reason> with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable.
  2. On the file discussion page, write a full explanation of why you believe the file is not replaceable.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification, per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. plicit 13:59, 19 November 2021 (UTC)

The file File:Ronald Tan Chong Ngee.jpg has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

WP:DECORATIVE non-free use in Sim Ah Cheoh#Crime and sentence which fails WP:NFCC#8. Despite the claim made in this file's non-free use rationale, this image is not being used at the top of a biographical article about the individual in question, but rather it is being used in subsection of an article about a different person. There's no sourced critical commentary in the relevant section which specifically discusses this particular photo and the subject of this photo, Ronald Tan Chong, is mentioned by name twice; so, there's no real loss of encyclopedic information to the readers of the article if this file is omitted as explained in WP:NFC#CS. If a stand-alone article about Ronald Tan Chong is written, then this photo would probably OK to use for primary indentification purposes at the top of or in the main infobox of such an article, but it's non-free use in the article about Sim Ah Cheoh doesn't comply with WP:NFCC

This image is not being used at the top of a biographical article about the individual in question, but rather it is being used in subsection of an article about the event in which the individual in question was killed. There's no sourced critical commentary in the relevant section which specifically discusses this particular photo itself and the content about the student and his death doesn't not require a non-free iamge of him be seen to be understand as explained in WP:NFC#CS. If a stand-alone article about Chong Lon Chong is created, then this photo would probably OK to use for primary indentification purposes (though its value even in such an article would still be questionable because of its poor quality) at the top of or in the main infobox of such an article, but it's non-free use in the article about the bus riots doesn't comply with WP:NFCC. Non-free photos of deceased person aren't simply added to article about event in which they might've been killed just to memorialize them per WP:NOTMEMORIAL; there needs to be some signinificant improvement in the reader's understanding to the degree that not seeing the photo would be detrimental to that understanding. That's not the case at all with respect to this particular photo.

Thanks for contributing: Murders of Koh Ngiap Yong and Jahabar Sathick

Thank you for contributing the article Murders of Koh Ngiap Yong and Jahabar Sathick. I have assessed it as being of "C-class" quality at face value and first reading because it covers the crimes, criminal investigations and judicial process with a reasonable balance between the various aspects of what should appear in a crime-related article. (I don't rate higher than C-class upon first assessment.) I think this article sets a standard that authors' of newly created crime articles should aspire to. Thanks for all the hard work putting this article together pretty much by yourself. - Cameron Dewe (talk) 22:09, 11 December 2021 (UTC)

On usage of NewspaperSG (at Sim Ah Cheoh)

Heya, noticed that you have used NewspaperSG archives at Sim Ah Cheoh. May I request that you strip out the URLs in references that has no direct links and are linked to keyword searches in the future? Search results may change over time as the archives grow. Cheers! – robertsky (talk) 20:12, 12 December 2021 (UTC)

How do you do it? I am confused...NelsonLee20042020 (talk) 02:24, 13 December 2021 (UTC)

Just don't fill in the url field if the URL is of a search URL. You probably have copied the URL in the headings of the articles you can't access from home. Heh. Those URLs are search URLs. The actual URL can only be accessed if you are accessing from NLB. You can look at this Special:Diff/1059981163 as an illustration of what I meant by seach URL. – robertsky (talk) 03:22, 13 December 2021 (UTC)

Also, if you want to use images from NewspaperSG, I suggest going down to NLB and scan/capture/print the image from the microfilm instead of lifting from the digital version due to the watermarking. – robertsky (talk) 03:25, 13 December 2021 (UTC)

A tag has been placed on File:Kim Mi-soo at the 24th Busan Film Festival.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a non-free file from a commercial source (e.g. Associated Press, Getty Images), where the file itself is not the subject of sourced commentary. If you can explain why the file can be used under the fair use guidelines, please add the appropriate fair use tag and rationale.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Whpq (talk) 19:47, 6 January 2022 (UTC)

  • Note - You did not provide a proper URL for the source and just stated NBC news. I assume you got it from here which credits this as a Shutterstock image. Shutterstock is a commercial image agency. You can't use images from commercial agencies as they fail to meet WP:NFCC#2. -- Whpq (talk) 19:51, 6 January 2022 (UTC)

All of Us Are Dead

@NelsonLee20042020:, please do not add more details than is necessary for the episode summaries in All of Us Are Dead. Per [Manual of Style] for television, plot summaries should not exceed 200 words per episode. This is even stated at the top of the section while editing in source mode. Being "summaries", the language used should be concise. Note that I have had to revert your edits several times, save for spelling corrections. I would appreciate it if you took heed of this. Thanks. Yekshemesh (talk) 17:29, 10 February 2022 (UTC)

Understand, but from what I saw, there are some details that were not included in, or language corrections within it, which is why I did som sorry if you find it unnecessary. Thanks for the comments though. NelsonLee20042020 (talk) 00:27, 11 February 2022 (UTC)

Okay, but please keep them under 200 words. As at time of writing, most of the summaries still exceed the required word limit. I (and other editors) will continue to trim any words we deem superfluous in keeping with the word count. You might find some useful guidelines at Wikipedia:How to write a plot summary. Cheers. Replaceable fair use File:Lee Yeon (photo).jpg

Thanks for uploading File:Lee Yeon (photo).jpg.

Thank you. Whpq (talk) 13:26, 13 April 2022 (UTC)

Restoring copyright violation materials on Twenty-Five Twenty-One

Hi NelsonLee20042020, I noticed that you reverted my removal of copyright violation materials. The entire Episodes section was copied outright from Netflix by Profzed which they also did the same with Business Proposal yesterday with this now-deleted/hidden revision. You may refer to the copyright violation report for Twenty-Five Twenty-One here. Fyi, the tool is not some random tool, it's the official tool used by Template:Copyvio-revdel which I added the template onto the article previously in this revision, you can find the same link in the template in the linked revision, should you wish to compare the URL. The copyrighted revisions is supposed to be hidden away per WP:RD1 by administrators however due to large scale involving exactly 404 revisions (including the revision you just restored unknowingly), it's not feasible to do so as per my enquiry with admin Diannaa on her talk page. Hence, please do not restore it outright, you may however write it in your own words, should you wish to add back the Episodes table/section. Thanks you for your cooperate and understanding. In what way did the execution of Abdul Kahar Othman have anything to do with his racial background? What's your intention? Singapore has never "targeted" a race for capital punishment. Roh Yoon-seo moved to draftspace

An article you recently created, Roh Yoon-seo, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). It seems like a case of WP:TOOSOON. I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption.
