Ninjadude8, you are invited to the Teahouse[edit]

Teahouse logo

Hi Ninjadude8! Thanks for contributing to Wikipedia.
Be our guest at the Teahouse! The Teahouse is a friendly space where new editors can ask questions about contributing to Wikipedia and get help from peers and experienced editors. I hope to see you there! Jtmorgan (I'm a Teahouse host)

Sources[edit]

Hi Ninjadude, please have a read of the reliable sources page: wikis like Wikia are rarely acceptable sources, and the one you're adding is not. Nikkimaria (talk) 19:05, 18 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

A belated welcome![edit]

Sorry for the belated welcome, but the cookies are still warm!
Here's wishing you a belated welcome to Wikipedia, Ninjadude8. I see that you've already been around a while and wanted to thank you for your contributions. Though you seem to have been successful in finding your way around, you may benefit from following some of the links below, which help editors get the most out of Wikipedia:

Also, when you post on talk pages you should sign your name using four tildes (~~~~); that should automatically produce your username and the date after your post.

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! If you have any questions, feel free to leave me a message on my talk page, consult Wikipedia:Questions, or place {{helpme}} on your talk page and ask your question there.

Again, welcome! Meteor sandwich yum (talk) 03:07, 24 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

thanks[edit]

thanks for the welcome!  :) Ninjadude8 (talk) 01:49, 25 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Have you been trying to message me?[edit]

I noticed you gave me a message on my userpage,[1] and then removed it.[2] Then you seemed to have moved it here, and deleted it.

It looks like you did a similar thing on your own userpage, requesting in your last edit that you want help "upgrading" your user page.

The best way to get someone's attention is to leave a message on their talk page (don't delete it after), or (a more advanced way) link their user name like this: User:Example (insert double brackets on both sides to produce the blue link). It will leave them a message notification through the WP:ECHO system automatically, saying their name has been mentioned.

Do you want advice for sprucing up your userpage? I noticed you've got userboxes down well. Meteor sandwich yum (talk) 23:30, 25 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

yes I need help[edit]

With userboxes

just try and send me every copy of each userbox. thanks! and I need help moving my userboxes to the top right. Ninjadude8 (talk) 23:33, 25 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Oh! There you are. Sorry, my Internet connection went out.
I'm kind of do-it-myself, if you see me do something you don't like you can change it.
What do you mean by every userbox? There are thousands, sorted by subject.
But I can hunt them out for you, or maybe show you other people's pages to get inspiration. I also can help you code. Pretty much whatever you need. You can keep using this section (called a thread) to communicate, by the way. Meteor sandwich yum (talk) 00:55, 26 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I see from your contributions you (seem to) like Ben 10 and Harry Potter. I checked for Ben 10 (I can make one for you), there are Cartoon Network userboxes, but none for Ben 10 yet; There are a lot of Harry Potter-related userboxes...
To add it to your userpage just copy and paste the code on the left.
So {{User:Royalguard11/userboxes/HarryPotter}} would produce
HPThis user is a Harry Potter fan.
Am I helping at all?
Going to eat dinner... Meteor sandwich yum (talk) 01:18, 26 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Hey. I went a little crazy with your userpage. Maybe too crazy.
My intention was to give you a starting point you could change, not to actually describe you. By the way, you're not required to have a userpage at all. It's entirely up to you. You can put {{db-userreq}} (delete because the user requested it) on your page and an administrator will delete it for you.
Anyway, I colored the userboxes, added throwing stars, a userbox in which I added "This user likes Ben 10", I wrote you were a ninja here to help Wikipedia, and threw in a couple extra userboxes I thought were interesting. I guess this is where I'll leave your page for now, unless you ask for help again. Also, to undo any of the things I did, go to the version you want under "View History", click "Edit", and save.
I'm probably not the best in answering questions, though you can leave me a message if you like. The Wikipedia:Teahouse and Wikipedia:Help Desk are always there to answer questions (and have lots more experience than I do at answering questions--I'm kind of new too). Cheers! Meteor sandwich yum (talk) 03:16, 26 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

im not that big of a harry potter fan. im not even done reading the series. but im a naruto fan. and thanks for your help so far! :) Ninjadude8 (talk) 17:01, 26 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I like the "awesome" userbox saying this user is totally awesome. and thanks 4 the link! :) Ninjadude8 (talk) 17:06, 26 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Status changer

is there a online/offline thing for my user pg? Ninjadude8 (talk) 17:46, 26 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Oh yeah. Never used it before, but there are several available. I know TheDJ and other users have them.
I'd recommend either:
  • {{Statustop}} Probably the most elegant and simplest to set up--set manually or automatically (based on if you've edited recently)
  • Qui (see WP:QUI). Set your status and see if other people are online (if they use it too).
Other ones:
Meteor sandwich yum (talk) 20:37, 26 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I want it to change status automatically. how do u do that? Ninjadude8 (talk) 20:18, 27 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Forgive me if this is unclear. More info @ User:Xenocidic/statusChanger2. If it doesn't work, for whatever reason, ask either someone at the WP:Teahouse or WP:Help Desk. They'll be able to help.
  1. Create the userpage User:Ninjadude8/common.js.[note 1]
  2. "Import" User:Xenocidic/statusChanger2.js by copying the following code onto the page: importScript('User:Xenocidic/statusChanger2.js');
  3. Save, preferably with an edit summary like "Created my javascript page".
  4. WP:Bypass your cache. A cache makes computer stuff load quickly, but will contain the old interface. I copied simple instructions and adapted it below:
Bypass your cache — Simple instructions
Browser Instructions
In most Windows and Linux browsers: Hold down Ctrl and press F5.
In Apple Safari: Hold down ⇧ Shift and click the Reload toolbar button.
In Chrome for Mac: Hold down ⌘ Cmd and press R.
In Firefox for Mac: Hold down ⌘ Cmd and press F5.
Note
  1. ^ This is your javascript code for your skin, and applies for all four "skins". Most people use Vector, but Monobook, Modern, and Cologne Blue also exist in Special:Preferences.
Meteor sandwich yum (talk) 05:14, 28 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

no need to apologize, i still don't get it so Im going 2 remove it. but thx 4 the help! :) Ninjadude8 (talk) 20:05, 28 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

take a look on my user pg. doesn't it look empty? can u give me ideas of what to put on the blank space? thx, Ninjadude8 (talk) 22:15, 10 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

People don't judge you based on your user page, but some people choose to decorate it. Filling the space all depends on what you want. Some people tell a little bit about what they do or where they're from, what they're interested in, or pets (Remember not to give too much of your personal information away!) Some just ramble about things. Others link to stuff they visit often. WP:UPYES (user page, yes) says what you can have in your userpage.
You can put pictures into your page you can find on find on Wikipedia Commons (Main page • Search) or a lot of pictures on Wikipedia. You can also code in a colored background or theme, such as a blue background, make it look psychedelic, or whatever.
To give you some ideas, here are some nice/interesting pages I've come across...
  • The Devil's Advocate has a picture.
  • Technical 13 has a bunch of "topicons", a "tabbed" look, and a blue background.
  • K6ka has his page full of anti-vandalism gear.
  • Whoop whoop pull up has an entirely crazy page, has replaced the "Wikipedia" icon with a red star, added Wikipedia:Ads, pictures of explosions and colorful text...
  • Plastikspork has a bunch of awards, a lolcat, and a picture of a "family" of utensils...
  • Coffee has a very "shiny" look to his/her/their page
  • Redrose64 has a little bit of everything, with a very long page
  • Faggidabboudit has a single sentence.
  • Radiant! has a "quilt".
So really it's up to you. Pictures, text, quote, writings, links, awards, animated pictures (GIFs), styles... Meteor sandwich yum (talk) 03:55, 11 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

plastikspork has too much utensils. lol Ninjadude8 (talk) 02:28, 12 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I think I want the 'milestones' thingy that redrose64 has. can u help me on that? Ninjadude8 (talk) 02:32, 12 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

On it. I can copy & paste the code...but as far as the actual milestones, what do you want it to look like? Redrose has every 1000 edits (she has quite a lot of edits). Your edit count is currently 190 (as of 03:17, 12 April 2014 (UTC)), and a running count can be found here.
So I could set it up for every 1000, or do it every 100, every month...I'll get the basic code set up, at any rate. Meteor sandwich yum (talk) 03:17, 12 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

i want it every 100. thx! Ninjadude8 (talk) 17:20, 13 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

actually I just looked at it so maybe do every 10 now. Ninjadude8 (talk) 17:25, 13 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

and I want a light green background. thx! :) Ninjadude8 (talk) 17:40, 13 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Wow. That was pretty hard. Wikipedia doesn't have out-of-the-box ways of tracking milestones, so I created it by imitating Redrose64's design, and programming it pretty much from scratch (which Redrose, as a programmer, created herself).
Anyway, I messed around with the color scheme (I liked the light green/mint combo the best):
  • Lightgreen/green: [3]
  • Lightgreen/mint: [4]
  • Lightgreen/lightgreen: [5] (I left it at this)
It's actually really easy to change the colors as long as you know regex (modified search-and-replace for geeks), but it's much harder to hunt down the given contribs. I had to modify my CSS so it would number them, limit it to 200, count backwards (200, 191, 181...), copy the link name, then prune it so it only displayed the date using regex, and create the table numbered properly with regex. Whew! Nonetheless, you've got your first 20 dates every tenth edit.
Unfortunately there's no way to automatically update it, and there's no function that will give you a contrib without hunting (like edit[100] for your 100th edit). You can go to your oldest edit and limit it to 10 and keep clicking "newer" and record by hand, but not much else. I really wouldn't blame you if you decided to leave it, or delete the page. uh....I think u didn't get what I meant. I meant I wanted a light green background for the whole user pg. sorry if I didn't really say it clear enough. so I think 4 the milestones background color.....uhhh.....lets see.....maybe a light blue would do. thanks! I really appreciate your help! :) Ninjadude8 (talk) 23:05, 15 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

can u turn my user talk page background into light green too? thx dude! Ninjadude8 (talk) 23:10, 15 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

hey check out my user pg. I improved it. and u have got to look at my last userbox. I got to go to dinner right now. Ninjadude8 (talk) 01:04, 16 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

uh oh. is my background supposed to look light blue? if it is, I guess its wrong. I wanted it light green. Ninjadude8 (talk) 01:45, 16 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

oh yay u fixed it! thx! :) Ninjadude8 (talk) 01:46, 16 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

uhhh...I don't know what I did but I put in 5s in the milestones and....uhhh....it broke. can u help me fix it? thx, Ninjadude8 (talk) 21:36, 16 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

is making a bot easy? 'cause I think I want 1. Ninjadude8 (talk) 02:31, 1 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Making a bot is pretty hard.
You program it yourself, by hand, and babysit it to make sure it doesn't blow up Wikipedia. They can make several hundred edits per minute, so you really have to watch what you're doing. See Wikipedia:Creating a bot for more info.
If you're just looking for interesting tools you can check out your gadget settings and get pre-installed tools like Twinkle, WikiEd or HotCat by just checking or un-checking the boxes. Not the same as a bot, but still pretty cool, I think. Meteor_sandwich_yum (talk) 09:34, 2 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I want to help Wikipedia as much as I can, so im making a bot. im going 2 try doing it myself first, by if I fail...I need ur help. oh yeah, 1 more thing: can u fix my milestones 4 me? now I want it by 5's. thx, Ninjadude8 (talk) 01:37, 3 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

While I'm glad I have been able to help you in the ways I have, I don't think I can do either of those things. I'm just a volunteer like you.
Milestones are awfully difficult to create and maintain, especially in such small increments. There's no pre-coded design to keep track of your edits by number, and trying to find ways to do that gets really hard. I don't have the time.
I suggest switching over to the {{User contrib}} userbox or working with the tools available. Special:Contribs/Ninjadude8 gives you your contributions, and links at the bottom of that contributions page give you additional tools. Wikichecker goes above and beyond.
Even though many areas of Wikipedia are pretty laid-back, our "tech team" is pretty difficult to join. A group of geeks who can write Python create scripts that auto-submit very repetitive tasks. They all require prior approval from Bureaucrats.
While I don't want to disappoint you, I encourage you to find other ways of contributing, such as editing common mistakes with auto-wiki browser, using or developing scripts, or just editing by hand. If something like creating a common.js page confuses you, I doubt you'll enjoy creating a bot. It's like math class for nine hours straight. Even I would not be able to help you if you got stuck.
I'm going to be doing side projects for a while, so I won't be able to help you. A few links that might interest you:
  • WP:Help Desk is open for any question you could possibly have.
  • WP:IRC and WP:HAU for Internet-relay chat and to contact highly-active users.
Good luck, and take care! Meteor_sandwich_yum (talk) 00:54, 6 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

ok, then im not making a bot cuz I don't really get the article about making a bot. plus, u said u couldn't really help me and it's pretty hard. also u said u cant fix my milestones and its not easy so I think im going 2 remove it. im gonna grab a snack right now so see u later! :) Ninjadude8 (talk) 23:32, 8 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Disambiguation link notification for March 26[edit]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited List of spells in Harry Potter, you added links pointing to the disambiguation pages Beast and Serpent (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Speedy deletion nomination of Ben 23[edit]

A tag has been placed on Ben 23, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done for the following reason:

The information in this article belongs on page List of Ben 10 aliens or List of Ben 10 characters

Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not meet basic Wikipedia criteria may be deleted at any time.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, you can place a request here. Kndimov (talk) 19:53, 12 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

That sucks. Meteor sandwich yum (talk) 01:00, 13 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Nevermind. It was declined (  ) and suggested to be merged into List of Ben 10 aliens. Slightly better, I think. Meteor sandwich yum (talk) 01:06, 13 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I think it should be moved to List of Ben 10 characters because he's not an alien. Ninjadude8 (talk) 17:27, 13 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I moved it already. Ninjadude8 (talk) 17:57, 13 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Disambiguation link notification for May 2[edit]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. I fixed it. Ninjadude8 (talk) 23:41, 8 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The article List of Naruto tailed beasts has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Does not establish notability.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.
