Ryoute

Hello. In July 2005 I created what I thought was a respectable little stub for ryoute. A few months ago I noticed it had disappeared. By Googling Wikipedia for "ryoute" I discover that you deleted it in October 2006, presumably after due process. Since then someone else has recreated it. It would, I think, have been courteous at least to inform the creator or its other editors about the proposed deletion. This would have given them an opportunity to improve it or make a case for its continued existence. Also I can find no discussion about the deletion. Can you give me a link please? Does the current version meet your criteria? If not, can you suggest how to improve it? Thanks.--Shantavira|feed me 15:19, 13 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Ryoute was deleted under the PROD process. A prod tag can be placed on an article if it doesn't seem to meet the notability guidelines of Wikipedia and doesn't seem to fit under the speedy deletion criteria. Editors are given five days to fix up the article, or else it will be deleted. Nothing happened, so the article was deleted after the five-day period. It's fine for you to recreate it, but just to let you know, the article could potentially be deleted in the future. Judging from the current status of the article, I think this could possibly be something of notability, but I'm still not totally sure. The article, in its current state, needs to be cleaned up and formatted according to the Manual of Style. Afterwards, I think it would be best if we put the article up for AFD, so that we can gauge the community consensus on keeping or deleting the article. I'm going to be out of the country, so it may take a few days before I get back to you on this issue. Nishkid64 (talk) 16:26, 13 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for the explanation. I will add some improvement tags to the article and try to do some work on it myself before too long. The page you referred me to states that you may only delete an article if you give an informative deletion reason, such as that given by the nominator, not just expired prod". Your summary merely says "5-day prod ended. No significant improvements made to article". The prod having expired is not grounds for deletion, and neither is no significant improvements having been made to an article in the space of five days. There are hundreds of Wikipedia articles that have received no improvements of any sort for many months. You did hint that the subject might not be notable enough, and you may well be right. If so, it would be helpful if you could state such a specific reason when deleting an article, for the information of other editors. The origjnal reasons given by the deletion nominators seem not to be available (except perhaps to admins?) once the article has been deleted, so your deletion summary is all that remains. I hope you have a great vacation.--Shantavira|feed me 15:03, 14 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

On February 14, 2007, you deleted and protected the Dynasty Warriors 6 page, however it has just been announced. http://ps3.ign.com/articles/805/805629p1.html. As you can see when i found out about this news and checked the Dynasty Warriors page, i found my way to the protected DW6 page. So I was just wandering, what can you do to restore it now that it has been deleted and protected, but there is solid proof it is in production? --24.0.229.145 20:11, 17 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Rfc/user for Shashwat pandey

Dear Nishkid64,

Users Sethie and Reneeholle have filed an Rfc for user Shashwat pandey.

Because you have contributed to either the Sahaj Marg page, the Shri Ram Chandra Mission page, or both, we would appreciate it if you could provide your comments of this user at:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Requests_for_comment/Shashwat_pandey

Here are the guidelines for responding [1]:

  • Other users can endorse a view (under 1.7), by adding their signature to the list after that view. Along with their signature, they may wish to offer a clarifying comment of one or two sentences, for example if they agree with all but one particular part of the view. Longer responses than that should probably go into their own "View" section.
  • Anyone can endorse any view, regardless of whether or not they are outside parties, inside parties, or even the subject of the RfC. Ideally, there will be some view(s) that both sides of the involved parties can endorse.
  • You may endorse as many views as you wish. You may also endorse the original RfC statement (under section 1.7), and/or the subject's response (under section 2).

Thank you for your time. It is greatly appreciated! 18:18, 18 July 2007 (UTC)

Protect template

I see you removed the semi-protect template on the List of Mayday episodes article. I was originally under the impression that once this template was added, it becomes protected. But now I understand that admin must do some things behind the scenes to protect it, then this template is added to it, just as a note. The article mentioned really needs to be protected because of nonsense going on with it. Although I don't know if admins would agree, even though many of the users that work on it agree with it. Please let me know if there is anything else we can do. Thanks. --Pilotboi / talk / contribs 23:20, 20 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Article page protection of List of Mayday episodes, et al

I can speak to why the page needs protecting. We have an anonymous editor who is making IP edits to a host of articles (the user's IP is 202.95.200.12). What he is doing is renaming aircraft descriptions across many articles to his own naming scheme. For example, he renames all Airbus aircraft from A320 to A-320, which admittedly is minor, but completely inaccurate. He does the same thing to Boeing airplanes (B-747 instead of 747, which is equally wrong), and got into a series of revert wars on the article BAC One-Eleven. It has been explained to him on his talk page, on my talk page, and he has been directed to the talk pages of several articles. At no point has this made any impression, and he continues to revert pages despite the efforts of editors like Pilotboi, Ian Rose, John, and myself. He also repeatedly removes wikilinks from articles in violation of WP:MOSLINKS, for reasons that I can't begin to fathom. Since banning him temporarily didn't seem to have any effect, I talked to Pilotboi, and he suggested that a partial protect for some of the most frequently reverted pages might help. I'd really appreciate any ideas to help resolve this matter. Sacxpert 04:59, 21 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I think I made an error

Hi, I think I made a mistake a few weeks ago, when I merged some content from one page to another. There were two pages on similar subjects, Mayday (TV series) and List of Mayday episodes. The Mayday had a list of episodes on it that was more thorough than the version found on the List of... page, and so the second page probably could have been deleted. However, I know that many television shows on Wikipedia have a separate page for the episode listings (ER, Grey's Anatomy, West Wing, Star Trek: The Next Generation, even Darkwing Duck). It seemed sensible to move the episode section from the Mayday article (which was getting quite long) to the List of... page, and so I did, after posting a discussion on the talk page (no one objected). However, I did it as a simple cut-and-paste edit, and although I was confused at the time as to whether this was correct or not, re-reading the help page on mergers makes me think that I made a mistake, so I thought I should ask you, as an administrator, whether something needs to be done to fix this. Both pages have been edited many times since I did the partial merger, which looked like this on the List of... page after the merger was performed.[9] I then deleted the episode section from the main page, with a redirect added, like this.[10] I guess this might have affected the edit histories, and hence the GFDL. I'm really sorry if I made a mess. What should I do, if anything? Sacxpert 13:38, 28 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Nat Turner's slave rebellion

No problem. I cited those quotes to Aphteker because I have to rely on him for their accuracy. In the case of the Richmond Whig, which criticized the brutal slaughter of Blacks after the supression of the rebellion, I thought it was important to add that Aptheker noted that the sources was "hostile to the cause Turner espoused" because a modern reader might think it was an abolitionist newspaper.

I'm happy to help any way I can to improve the article. Here are a few thoughts:

  • I haven't read Oates, but an earlier editor attributed to him the claim that Nat ordered the rebels to "kill all the white people", a claim I don't think I've read elsewhere and which seems to contradict the Richmond Enquirer (another "hostile" newspaper). The editor also added the names of the white victims and details of their deaths. I redacted that to a paragraph in the "Casualties" section, but I'd like to either get a reference for the questionable anecdote about the school-children or delete it.
  • My impression is that historians consider Gray's Confessions to be Gray's work, written largely in Gray's language (e.g., "we found no more victims to gratify our thirst for blood"), although it may have at its core Nat's account of the rebellion.

This evening I'll see whether I have any books beside Aptheker that might be helpful. — Malik Shabazz (Talk | contribs) 18:11, 29 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Dropping a line and other stuff

Hey Nish,

It's been a while since I've said hi. Hey man. Anyway, besides dropping you a line to see how you are doing, I need a bit of advice. You might have noticed that I largely dropped out of sight in the past few months. While this is not at all true, what is true is the fact that I largely have stopped dealing with any form of Wiki-administration, including any types of voting or major discussions. All my work as of late has been on my own and because of it I feel that I get more done.

However... A few days ago one of my favorite articles that I wrote (Naked Ape (band)) was deleted. Normally, I would have fought it tooth and nail but I was away from Wikipedia for two days or so and in that time it was voted for deletion. I restarted the article, only to have it quickly pruned again.

I'm looking for advice to restart the article. I have saved all the original text thanks to Google cache, but as for fixing the article so that it fits Wiki standards (I cannot find the first deletion page, sadly). The second AFD states that it does not fit WP:NOTABILITY even though they are a signed music group.

Any help in this matter would be greatly appreciated. I do not wish to involve myself in the politics of Wiki-administration again, but I really do wish to save this article.

Fair use rationale for Image:Fingerlonger.JPG

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Fingerlonger.JPG. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Videmus Omnia Talk 15:07, 10 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

More assistance required with "Thrash list" troublemaker

Hi Nishkid64. Earlier this month I directed Weltanschaunng (talk · contribs) to come to you regarding the trolling edits of 194.144.111.210 (talk · contribs)(who you have now blocked) on the List of thrash metal bands article. If you review back far enough(March) you can see that the same trouble had been brewing on that page for quite some time and that IP 194.144.111.210 was also acting under the name Malfunction (talk · contribs) fitting title :D . Malfunction was blocked indefinitely for his trolling and 3RR breaches. This evening "The List" was edited against concensus... yet again... by a brand new user account calling himself... predictably... Malfunction3 (talk · contribs). This is obviously our original Malf/195 editor in new clothes. Just wondering if you could work your magic and clean out the 'sock' drawer before it starts to smell :D . And, just for the record, there is also a Malfunction2 (talk · contribs)(maybe he forgot the password for that one and had to create the "Mal3" handle?) Your assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks and have a nice day! 156.34.225.235 23:16, 13 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

In case you're keeping track... Malfunction (talk · contribs) has returned as Username39 (talk · contribs). Just thought you'd like to know. 156.34.234.163 17:41, 15 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Another one... Username40 (talk · contribs). This will probably go on for awhile :D . 156.34.217.216 18:14, 16 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
PS there is also a Username42, Username44, Username46, Username47, Username50... I stopped checking at that point. 156.34.217.216 18:14, 16 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Nishkid64,

OK, so I thought I'd help out wikiproject:Unrecognized nations, and the "Country" mentioned in the headline hadn't been created yet, so I did some research and created the article.

I know you are busy, but if you have the time, could you check it to make sure that it isn't bad, and that it is in NPOV, etc.

Thank you, and sorry for the inconvience.

deletion of "Awkward turtle"

Dear Nishkid64,

I'm writing to both inquire and object to the block on the topic of the "Awkward turtle". Interestingly, the topic has been labeled as a non-sense page, which I'm guessing is due to questionability of both the topics existence and meaning.

Like anything that has yet to saturate mainstream pop-culture/popular media, it is understandable to confuse an upcoming idea as a hoax or simply as nonsensical.

So when does an modern notion, gesture, idea justify itself as being expectable for definition? As an administrator I'II bet that you'll have a great understanding of this, although -in terms of upcoming social concepts like the awkward turtle- I believe it is when ideas become common place in society.

Incidentally the verb google as in, to use google search engine to acquire information, is a common place definition today. But there would of been a time in which its existence/meaning (similar to the awkward turle) would of been debatable. This would of been before it had saturated by mainstream culture, when its meaning had only been carried by a small proportion of society.

I am currently studying at Melbourne University in Australia which, like most Universities fosters and pushes the forefront of innovation and creativity. While living on residence the after big parties its not uncommon to see people creating to gesture of an “awkward turtle” during conversation of situations that took place.

On the Net too you can see the signs of people catching onto the idea. Simply Google awkward turtle and you’ll see the signs of its existence. The plethora of YouTube videos on the topic demonstrates the infectious spread of the “awkward turtle” across the internet. Consequently this real gesture exists and while the signs may limited, there are definitive examples of its sentiment and growth which will only increase with time.

For Wikipedia to continue it success it needs to keep ahead of the game up keeping in touch with youth culture that so often sheds the light for upcoming ideas.
