As much as it pains me to admit, I'm to blame for the absence of "Township" from the |name= of most of these; I misguidedly removed it when converting the infobox from {{Geobox}} to {{Infobox settlement}}. Hi Nyttend, I'm bugging you because you previously commented on an ANI report for user Qewr4231 here. I've recently had to open another ANI case on the user here because of BLP violations on top of his continued soapboxing. Since I'm worried it may otherwise be construed as forum shopping, I'm asking you to not comment on the report this time 'round, but I am curious what I should do, as the report is very likely to go stale with no resolution from an admin. (I think only about 25% of ANI reports I file actually get responses.) Should I wait for it to go stale and paste it back in, or drop it if it doesn't get a response, or...? You're right, I'm being overly cautious about forum shopping. I just want to make sure that my participation in this is as integrity-filled as it can be. I'm happy to have you participate, although now I'm questioning whether my rationale for bringing the user to ANI this time was sound. The matter as I saw it with the Kip McKean housing information is that it's not "widely published". Per my limited experience with BLPs, there has always been an "err on the side of privacy" stance, and I've not seen sites like Intelius or other background check websites as being acceptable for this stuff, since they aren't so much "publishers" of the information. It seems to be the same thing with the real estate reference. The property tax stuff that Qewr submitted was totally synthesis, since he was trying to extrapolate based on a combination of information from Site A and Site B what McKean paid in property taxes. And there is the much bigger issue of what encyclopedic need is being served by the addition of this content. So maybe in this case I need a refresher course too. This still shows up on my userpages. [2] I didn't want a history merge, only some information to transfer to a newer page as the pages were previously AFD'd. (so they wouldn't be deleted as a recreation. As I got the information I wanted I deleted to the point where I blanked the page. SPA tagging

I have a question, I removed a tag from an AFD but it was put back on. [3] From what I read WP:SPATG, The following is a list of common misuses of the single-purpose account tag. You should under no circumstance consider anything that falls into the below categories as evidence for warranting an SPA tag. "Frequency of edits: A user should not be tagged as an SPA just because they only have a handful of edits. While all users with one edit are by definition an SPA, users with as few as 3 or 4 edits are not necessarily SPAs if those edits are in a diverse set of topics and do not appear to be promoting a "single purpose." The IP posted in a diverse set of topics and more than edits Niteshift36 has stated that only the IP can remove the tag, after that accused me of being the IP; if i removed it he would report me to AN/I. Actually, this has nothing to do with SPI. SPI is sock puppet investigation. What you should be talking about is SPA, single purpose account. CA, you are quoting an essay, which is not a policy or even a guideline. It's "the advice or opinions of one or more Wikipedia contributors. Essays are not Wikipedia policies or guidelines. Some essays represent widespread norms; others only represent minority viewpoints." An essay can't really be "enforced". Claiming that you are removing it to comply with a policy is completely false. The tag I placed on the IP response says that the IP has "made few or no other edits outside this topic." By it's very nature, it is, in fact, designed to be placed on accounts that have made only a handful of edits. When I placed it, the IP had only made 2 edits this year: the AfD and ANI. In total, it has only made 5 edits, which is a "handful", precisely what the tag says. The IP also hasn't edited since that day either. However, edit count was not the sole reason I tagged it. Had you bothered to ask me why, I'd have told you that another decision factor is when an allegedly new editor immediately starts posting in ANI and AfD, that's an indicator that the IP may not be truly new. Now what IS a guideline is WP:TPG, which tells us that we generally don't edit others talk page edits except in certain enumerated situations. As I said, if the IP has an issue with it, he can talk to me or take it to ANI. If you're not the IP, you really have no reason to concern yourself and certainly no cause to remove it twice. Ironton restaurant

You will be hard-pressed to find an article from the Ironton Tribune on the opening of The Depot as the Ironton Tribune does not make all of their print articles available online. I think that if you are not interested in using one of the other articles to make a reference in regards to The Depot, we should revert the article back to when the information on Austyn's was included, as I can't find an article relating to the fact that the Austyn's restaurant no longer exists. However, we do have irrefutable proof that it opened at that location. Also, whether it exists or not at this current time, it is apart of the Norfolk and Western depot's history. Pennsylvania photos

It appears that "temporary bridge" will just be the permanent replacement; there hasn't been news on replacing that one since it was built in 2009. If you visited Gudgeonville, did you happen to go Harrington or Waterford covered bridges as well? I have photos of both, but I might re-do the ones of Harrington, though. I lucked out on Gudgeonville, but completely missed the Koehler Brewery. I am still trying to find a photo before it was demolished that I can use (without one decent photo, I won't write an article).

The Manor

I've started working a bit on Faggs Manor, Pennsylvania. I got several pix and noticed that we have an article on Sir John Fagg, 1st Baronet who does turn out to be the man honored by the hamlet's name. The original Samuel Blair (that's a disambiguation page) article we had is now missing, perhaps somebody merged it by mistake into his son's article Samuel Blair (chaplain). I know we had that article, because that's where I learned of the existence of the church.

Yes, I noticed that the Sir John article had some interesting dates. All I know is that I learned about the senior Samuel Blair here, perhaps in the log college article or similar. Formal request for clarification of IBAN terms

Hey, Hijiri88 (talk · contribs) here. I'm posting logged-out (from a stable IP that everyone knows is me) to allow you to respond to me before a certain user decides to jump in and harangue me again. I'll come back and re-sign my post logged-after (if I don't, remind me; or tell me I don't have to if that's what you think). I posted what I thought would read like how I meant it, a sincere request for clarification (for me to "get it straight") on the terms of the IBAN. Another admin responded calling my request "coy" and "sarcastic". I would apologize to him for the miscommunication, but I really get the feeling he doesn't want to talk about it anymore. Especially given that his initial close said not to report violations to him.

I was under the impression the posting in discussions the other user started, or commenting on the other users' edits on said articles' talk pages, was a violation, but when I reported the other user for it I was told it was not, because I don't "own" that page. But does this mean that I am allowed post to discussions that the other user started, as long as my comments are not directed specifically at said user? Or post general comments in the third person, about said user's edits because the other user doesn't own said page either? I was under the impression that these were both obvious no-nos, but...

Also, I'm now very unclear as to where violations are reported, since the initial close said to report them on ANI, last time (2+ years ago, mind you) I posted a report of an IBAN violation it was on AN (ironically on the recommendation of the same admin), and now I am being told that ANI and AN are both IBAN-free zones.

A "last chance" request

Hi Nyttend. Hope you are well. I trust you probabbly remember this episode, regarding editor @Ndandulalibingi: Since then, I have avoided the Mbunda-related articles, as it just makes my blood boil to see the continuation of his pseudo-theories supported by fringe authors. However, I took a look at those articles again today and see that they are replete with some of the elements that were a problem at the time, when Ndandulalibingi thanked you for your input and undertook to play by the rules. I will not go into a list of the practices that violate the rules of the project, as I believe I have a workable solution.

I could spend time, (a waste of it) to prepare a water-tight case to have Ndandulalibingi blocked, starting with the obvious COI, as an official representative of the Mbunda Council. However, I don't want him blocked for the sake of blocking, and I am certain that neither would you or any other admin. All reason for a block would be to stop the damage that he is causing, which is substantial, if you look at my edits today on Mbunda-related topics. All my edits of today had been clearly substantiated in the edit summaries and discussion pages. At any rate, instead of a block, here is a reasonable proposal and this is what I want to ask of you:

Request user Ndandulalibingi to stop all futher edits to Mbunda-related articles. I will do the same.
Request user Ndandulalibingi to edit the articles Bantu expansion and Bantu peoples and incorporate in those articles the theory of the Bantu migration from Sudan to Angola (or any other country in central-west Africa), supported by bibliographical evidence drawn from the authors that he relies on, Papstein, von Oppen, M'Imanyara and other sources that he repeatedly uses.

That is a simple request. If the theories and sources survive the spotlight and scrutiny of the community working on those articles, then we shall have to accept them and abide by the consensus. The logic is that if a 'mother' article on the overall migration of the Bantu does not support a certain view, then we can't have subordinate articles proposing a contradictory view. We can however, test the new view being presented and on the strength of evidence, incorporate it into the mother article, so that it henceforth covers both views, and subsequent referrals to the new view in any other articles downstream are underpinned in the main article. It is easy to cite questionable sources on little visited articles, not so on articles with high visibility such as Bantu expansion and Bantu peoples, which benefit from the contributions of a lot of serious, experienced editors who work on a wide range of fields. It bears remembering that Ndandulalibingi is a WP:SPA, and as such, I do believe that we have granted him generous latitude that others in less obvious positions COI/ SPA have been denied. So if the sources and theories are valid, let them speak for themselves. For the record, it is not the first time that I have suggested this route to Ndandulalibingi, but it was ignored without as much as a reply. Thanks for your time. I have not made any substantive editing to these articles, since 13 September 2014 when Rui ''Gabriel'' Correia (talk reported me. Being my articles, I believe they are complete and editing on them without a discussion on the talk pages is violation of WP policy, it is "edit warring". All the issues he is editing now are old and he never touched them then. The issue of Bantu migration he keeps referring to remains a debatable issue, [5] says so and I quote: "Attempts to trace the exact route of the expansion, to correlate it with archaeological evidence and genetic evidence, have not been conclusive; thus many aspects of the expansion remain in doubt or are highly contested". I found a source then, that is claiming to the contrary, who am I to reject the source. In all faireness if he feels the source needs to be tested, fare enough, but why delete the material before testing? Ndandulalibingi (talk) 20:41, 13 May 2015 (UTC)

Your recent edit was challenged by another editor, that is two editors against your opinion and you still revert, which is still against WP policy. I find it difficult to believe your honesty in the claims you make because at one time you claimed to know more about Angola than me and further claimed that Mbunda language was never chosen as one of Angola's National languages. Wrong. No edit was challenged. Your friend was confused by Mbunda and Bunda. As for being one of the six languages, I was busy editing that when I posted this suggestion here, which also binds me to not make any further edits to Mbunda-related articles. But can we now PLEASE keep unessential chatter away from this page? This is about proposal about testing theories and sources, so let us not clutter the issue and complicate matters for the admin who has to wade through this. It sounds like you got caught in traffic for the National Road Festival. Oak Hill has several signs noting that it is private property, I didn't go up the hill either. I did notice the contributing original west gate this time, however, I missed it the last time I was there, resulting in file:Oak Hill Estate and west gate.jpg. Hi Nyttend. I have now spent a considerable amount of time from May 13 cleaning up the Mbunda pages, also cleaning up where information was taken across to the Portuguese WP. However, to be fair to he project and other editors who have contributed, I have to make sure that I do not delete something that should be kept. But to do that on the large articles will take a lifetime - Mbunda Kingdom for example is miles long. This is what I suggest:

Mbunda Kingdom be cut down to a stub of a few lines, to be rewritten like all other articles.
Mbunda people cut down to 2 paragraphs

I guess some kind of protection or template would be required or otherwise a well-meaning editor might decide to reinstate the information. The three below should be deleted in their entirety to be recreated ——OR—— task the user with transforming them into proper article according to WP standards:

You might also want to have a look at this brief discussion about the user using sources that he has never consulted and in somes cases adulterating the source to sound like a second one. This is not the first time that the user adulterates or fudges sources, this was already pointed out before my time, I think, but I personally came across cases and included in my original report that I filed at the Admin Noticeboard. Cutting out unsourced material

Hi Nyttend. Yes, cutting out the unsourced pulp would definitely be one way of doing it. I suggested that it be left to the editor to do it, so it can be used for practice - perhaps even move a copy of it to his sandbox for the time being. It will be a good exercise t work on his own earlier work line by line, deleting obvious clutter, prune further deciding what must stay and what must go, and at each point that something is not overtly clear, provide context, grounded on a proper source. I am saying this, but I confess that I don't even know if the project has the mandate to 'enforce' such 'coersive' training. For some time, I have been trying to help editing the Mbunda related articles, as the author of the main edits, himself Mbunda, has evident shortcomings in this field, but is acting in good faith. Unfortunately, health problems have prevented me, and still prevent, from systematical tutoring. Thus, if there is anybody with some knowledge about the subject is willing to take over this task, that would be ideal. Harrison---Crawford State Forest

Hi there. I came across a two year-old requested-move discussion at Talk:Harrison–Crawford State Forest. The article name was changed to Harrison-Crawford State Forest (with an m-dash) and it looks kinda silly. I peeked at MOS:DASH and I don't think any of it applies. Just because the forest is named for "Harrison" and "Crawford", doesn't mean Wikipedia editors should apply any special rules to the name. The name came ready-made as a proper noun: "Harrison-Crawford State Forest" (see GNIS}. The discussion looks like you were ganged up on, but I think you were right. I may request it be changed back. question about editing while a topic is under discussion

Underwriters Salvage Corps (Cincinnati, Ohio)

First of all, my bad! I didn't realize I had done that before. Please don't think I tried to sneak that in there. I honestly just missed it. Second, while the building is used to store equipment for the Salvage Corps, as far as I can tell the, corps are not and were not a fire department. Plus, either way the building is no longer in use by the department. Additionally, these categories (Category:Fire departments of the United States) across the board are used exclusively for categorizing actual fire departments. I'm been slowly working through redoing every department page in the US (see User:Zackmann08 for my WIPs) and this is the only page I have come across that is categorized in this fashion. There are other buildings and even active stations that have pages, but they are not categorized as being departments. To draw a parallel lets look at baseball (mainly because I am watching a game at the moment... ), if we look at Category:Major League Baseball teams, using your argument it would seem to be that AT&T Park (where the San Francisco Giants play) would need to go in that category... It is a building in use by the team. But the category specifically says teams just like the category we are talking about specifically says departments. Anyway, you have WAY more experience that I do at this but would really like to pick your brain and see if we can't come to a good consensus. Query over the status of the TicketSource page

I recently created a stub with references to allow the creation of an article covering a large ticketing and software development company in the UK and noticed you removed it for not being significant enough. I was wondering if you would be able to give an example of what you consider notable enough for a company to add themselves to the wikipedia repository. Do you have any suggestions that might help us create an article here?

Unfortunately, you left no notes on the talk page and the talk page with suggestions from a wikipedia editor appears to have disappeared with the page. Is there any way to retrieve or recreate these suggestions? Thank you very much for your reply, it was very informative! If you could assign the page to a draft area that would be great. I'm hoping to persuade one of our customers to pitch in and provide some balanced edits on our behalf. Although we are not a large company employee wise, we do turnover £3 million+ a year and have done a great deal of high profile events. Don't let the size of our HR dep fool you! The most recent examples from the top of my head are the Gurkha 200 year celebration - the Queen and Prince Charles were in attendance - and the international financial meeting of the London Chamber of Commerce members (sponsored by HSBC - something extremely controversial considering recent UK news). We're mentioned on both of their sites - I've no idea if that counts as a reliable source? There are articles that cover the subject but I'm unsure if we're directly mentioned in them. Another example is that for 2 years, we've been the only source of tickets for the UKIP party - and managed all of their UK conferences. Again, very controversial but I was hoping would add some balance to the factual side of the article and make it more valid - encouraging a good editor to show us warts and all. I believe much of this was linked but obviously as a stub article and myself being an employee I didn't want to write it all myself. It's also worth noting that STAR (society of ticket agents and retailers) doesn't accept small companies as full members.^[1] We are indeed up there with TicketWeb.co.uk, Skiddle.com, lastminute.com and others. If I were to gather the links from the article and add a few more, would you be able to review them to inform me if they're adequate evidence of notoriety or not?

Reverting it was against Wikipedia rules. Removing bold font is not a matter for a long discussion. If you didn't like it, you should have gone to the talk page, not reverted it. Re: White Anunnaki

Just a little confused by your statement: what does "White Anunnaki" have to do with racist theories claiming white people are descended from aliens? White Anunnaki is a redlink, and Anunnaki is just an article about Sumerian deities, with nothing about human ancestry except quickly mentioning the creation of mankind.

There is a fringe, ancient astronaut hypothesis promoted by various groups, including David Icke, the Nation of Islam, and others who believe in aliens that their adherents call "Anunnaki". According to some of these groups, white people are descendents of the "White Anunnaki", oppressive space aliens who enslaved black people (and in some cases, other whites). See our article on Yakub which refers to part of this theory that they use. This nonsense is all over the Internet, and the fact that you can't find it on Wikipedia is probably a good thing. News sources as primary?

You made an interesting comment at Talk:Dennis Hastert, stating that "primary sources such as news articles from the time of an event may not be used." The relevant policy at WP:PRIMARY focuses on "insider view" and authors who actually witnessed events such as diaries and witness statements. I can understand your confusion, since many other fields use the term primary source differently; but Wikipedia's policy and usage on what constitutes a primary source is well-defined. The standards for writing an encyclopedia article are not the same as the standards for publishing as a historian (which in turn are different from the standards in many other fields); as it says in our own primary sources page (which you cited yourself!):

"Primary" and "secondary" should be understood as relative terms, with sources categorized according to specific historical contexts and what is being studied.
Similar definitions are used in library science, and other areas of scholarship, although different fields have somewhat different definitions
Many sources can be considered either primary or secondary, depending on the context in which they are examined. Moreover, the distinction between primary and secondary sources is subjective and contextual,[19] so that precise definitions are difficult to make.
Whether a source is regarded as primary or secondary in a given context may change, depending upon the present state of knowledge within the field

Obviously, that page is not policy and doesn't define how we use the term here on Wikipedia, but it makes it clear that an encyclopedia might have different standards than a dedicated historian. As, indeed, we do, since our primary / secondary division serves a distinct purpose from what most historians use it for -- we rely on secondary sources to ensure that we are not giving a topic WP:UNDUE weight and to make sure it has gone through the fact-checking and verification that reliable secondary sources employ. --Aquillion (talk) 02:18, 19 June 2015 (UTC)

Crossposting the same nonsensical question to various articles related to Kip McKean. The fact that he's crossposting it to all these talk pages only makes it look more like a conscious agenda.

Sign in a Lancaster County parking lot
No idea why this is at a Reformed church

The first sign is obviously the punch line in an Amish parking lot joke, but I've included it in the Eden Township, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania article anyway - not much else going on there. Please correct me if you think I'm wrong. The 2nd sign is one of those where I say "What's this all about?" You may remember you gave me a pretty good guess on the "No trees allowed" sign. My best guess is that they really mean "no metal detectors." Other guess is that since it is in Metal Township, Frankling County that one of the metals in the area might be uranium, or that there was some refining in the area. But it's the most rural setting you can imagine in Pennsylvania, and it still doesn't explain why anybody would want to use a Geiger counter there. Any help appreciated. Deleting edit summaries

Hi, I may need your help in cleaning up an article history. Let me explain, I created Ted Scott (basketball) in September 2012, and between other things, I added that he left because he failed a doping test and was released, and added a proper news source. The alleged wife of the player then started a revert war with me over that, until I remove it. The data is no longer in the article, but as it may be slender or offensive to them, it would be better to either delete the edits altogher or remove it's edit summary from me and Ajaleone. I think something can be arranged, it's in the best interests of the player and I'm asking this for him. Besides, the other party only joined wikipedia because of that and once the mather was over, never returned, so it's not like they're coming back to contest an edit summary. Changing the edits to something like "discussion started" "discussion continued" "discussion end", would be better, leaving the history of the article with less "noise".--Threeohsix (talk) 22:15, 23 June 2015 (UTC)

Homestead High School (Fort Wayne, Indiana)

Hi, Nyttend. I could find nothing in DAB policy or school article guidelines specifying schools should be DAB'd (city, state). DAB policy does say to use the least DAB possible. I have two Homestead High Schools on my watchlist and I am guessing there are more, but this one is the only one in Indiana. I confirmed that with a NCES search. just a small thing: You edited out the historic names of some places on HIV. At WP:NCPLACE it says "If [...] the article deals only with a place in a period when it held a different name, the widely accepted historical English name should be used."
