In 2009, WikiProject Years developed a essay for the inclusion of events "recent year" articles.

Important policy discussions took place in January 2009 at Wikipedia talk:Manual of Style (dates and numbers) and at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Years.

Request for help[edit]

I thought it might be a good idea to run a contest or two through the Countries WikiProject to attract editors to improve country coverage on Wikipedia, especially the country outlines.

I noticed you are a member of the WikiProject, and was wondering if you could help.

I've posted a message at Countries WikiProject talk page to get discussion started on what the awards programs should be and how they should be run.

Your ideas and feedback would be greatly appreciated.

I am conducting a review of this article as part of the GA Sweeps process. I have delisted the article. There are several concerns which have been left at Talk:The Man with the Golden Gun (novel)/GA1, which need to be addressed if the article is to regain GA status. Thanks. I have nominated Category:Films featuring Peking opera (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs) for renaming to Category:Films featuring Beijing opera (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs). Your opinions on the matter are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at the discussion page. Thank you. Shawn in Montreal (talk) 22:00, 18 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the notice. I have proposed a different renaming to broaden the category. olivier (talk) 08:01, 19 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Please help reserve Hong Kong public housing estate articles[edit]

Please help reserve Hong Kong public housing estate articles[edit]

Please help reserve Hong Kong public housing estate articles Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Shek Yam East Estate, Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Shek Mun Estate and Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Tin Tsz Estate. If this continues, I think most of the Hong Kong housing articles will be deleted. I suggested ways to improve the articles, rather than deleting them. Ricky@36 (talk) 09:21, 8 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I stop adding public housing estate articles in short term[edit]

I stop adding public housing estate articles in short term, since someone's behavior makes me unsatisfactory. Thanks for your support! Help protect Hong Kong-related articles as possible! Ricky@36 (talk) 16:10, 8 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Public housing estate in Hong Kong[edit]

Thanks for your ideas in contributing the Public housing estate in Hong Kong in Wikipedia! Sice someone ask for excuses to delete public housing estate topics. I suspend writing them this time. I am afraid when I continue to write articles, someone continue to delete the articles. This make me upset. Ricky@36 (talk) 02:12, 9 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Wong Nai Chung Reservoir Park[edit]

Thanks for your opinions! I changed to create another topic. Let's see Wong Nai Chung Reservoir Park, a former reservoir in Hong Kong which is now a Grade III historial architecture. Ricky@36 (talk) 15:03, 9 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

There is a discussion here about whether the words “highly autonomous” should be removed from the opening sentence of the article.

The current opening sentence reads:

Color of visited links[edit]

I have recently reinstalled Firefox 3.5.3 on my computer. Now the links within Wikipedia are changing color after I visit the linked page. I am using the "Classic" skin and in Firefox>Tools>Options>Content>Colors, I have checked "allow pages to choose their own color". Is there any setting within Wikipedia were are can turn this feature off? I would like websites in general to choose their own color, but would not like to have the links change color within Wikipedia. Is that feasable? Thanks a lot in advance! olivier (talk) 06:17, 23 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

It doesn't look like the classic skin sets a color for a:link, just for a:visited. But you can simply set one for both to make them the same. Add something like a:link, a:visited {color: #0000EC;} to User:Olivier/standard.css. --Splarka (rant) 08:08, 23 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Wikipedia:Link colors. --MZMcBride (talk) 08:10, 23 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Those colors don't apply to the "Classic" skin. --Splarka (rant) 08:35, 23 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion of Esquel Group[edit]

Sorry, I somehow missed your query on this a couple of weeks ago. I would contend that phrases like "Esquel’s vertically integrated operations ensure the highest quality in every step of the apparel manufacturing process", "Esquel’s apparel and textile production is complemented by strong product development capabilities" and "unique finishings that give Esquel the cutting edge in the apparel industry" constitute unambiguous promotion of a commercial company. Do you disagree? Deb (talk) 16:42, 3 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

No problem, thank you for your answer. I totally agree that the style of the article was not appropriate and was essentially written as an advertisement. Still I think that the article deserves to exist. It is probably possible to trim the content down to make it a neutral stub.olivier (talk) 16:47, 3 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Chinese Labour Corps[edit]

Nice work on the Chinese Labour Corps! I am thinking of beefing up the first sections on their origins, experience, and significance, but not if you are already planning to do so. Are your interests mainly in the cemeteries? What are your thoughts? ch (talk) 18:17, 25 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you! I have replied on your talk page. olivier (talk) 05:14, 27 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Smuggler (production company) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about an organization or company, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for organizations and companies. You may also wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles - see the Article Wizard.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. My involvement with this page is : 6 years ago, I created a redirect from "smuggler" to "smuggling". The page has then be moved a couple of times to the present "Smuggler (production company)". I have no opinion about the deletion or not of this content. olivier (talk) 16:27, 29 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Request for assistance about a photo[edit]

Commons:File:La-Tronche Hopital-civil.JPG: the uploader is long gone and we are trying to get rid of the vague Commons:Category:Old hospitals. Would you know (or have some idea who would know) whether this is a current hospital that someone just subjectively decided is "old", or whether it belongs in Commons:Category:Former hospitals? Thanks in advance for any help. - Jmabel | Talk 18:58, 27 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

It is old (from 1913) but still active. olivier (talk) 15:55, 29 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion nomination of Pat Ha[edit]

A tag has been placed on Pat Ha requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about about a person, organization (band, club, company, etc.) or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable. I have restored the article, and added hopefully enough info to make it avoid another speedy deletion. olivier (talk) 20:31, 3 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
