revert of Canal & River Trust edit[edit]

"remove unsourced statement" <-- that looks like an edit summary to me

National Making The First Move Day Deletion[edit]

Hello. Constructive improvement suggestions are needed here. How can the page National Making the First Move Day be improved and reinstated on wikipedia. You stated it required more reliable sources. Magazine, Days of the Year were cited. Are these not reliable? This is a genuine attempt to improve.Sbhpost (talk) 09:17, 19 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Please remember not to WP:BITE newcomers[edit]

I’m sure as a new page reviewer you must see a lot of terrible articles on a regular basis for which it’s not really worth spending much time chasing down the authors. However, I think it was pretty WP:BITEY to AfD Talk:Girl Giant and the Monkey King when the creator, in contesting your PROD, explicitly asked for help to improve it. It seems especially bitey since an AfD ought to involve a WP:BEFORE, and a simple google for the book’s title and the word “review” easily turns up several of the published reviews, demonstrating a pass of WP:NBOOK. I just wanted to leave a note encouraging you to assume good faith and move more slowly when looking at new editors’ work. ~ L 🌸 (talk) 06:39, 4 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, I didn't check again when I noticed that the PROD had been removed- I could only find a Goodreads page and a Kirkus review on it when I PRODDed it a while back. My bad. Padgriffin Griffin's Nest 10:56, 4 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, I get it, especially since the editor removing the PROD didn’t point out the sources either. Thanks for withdrawing the AfD. Since I edit a lot of book articles, a time-saving tip for a book BEFORE is to find a promotional page for the book and see what reviews they quote as “praise”— then you can go straight to those sources’ sites to confirm. And if all the “praise” has is random endorsements from individuals with no reviews listed, that gives you a really strong sign that there are no RS reviews to find (or all the reviews are terrible). Thanks for your reviewing work and happy editing. ~ L 🌸 (talk) 22:03, 4 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Is there a problem or are you just WP:BITEy?[edit]

"not sure what the flags are doing here" on Terra Ignota. Since you asked so nicely: I thought it was a more concise way to convey the fictional faction colors/symbols, which do somewhat map onto real world ones, than writing an extra sentence in the descriptions. These novels are all about socio-political factions, so colors/symbols are plot relevant.

If using flag symbols like this is a legitimate problem, that's fine. I'd love to learn why. Could you point me to a relevant resource? If it's not an actual problem, then I'm going to put them back.

As the previous commenter said, please move more patiently and with respect. MestizaMetaphor (talk) 06:05, 5 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Lmstevens5947: I removed the flags as there did not appear to be anything that supports the use of these real-life flags to represent these fictional entities in the novel, and their use would hence constitute WP:OR. The use of colors should be fine. Also, I'm not sure why you're accusing me of WP:BITEing you, as that policy only applies to newcomers who are not expected to be fully aware of the rules, while you've been on the Wiki for over 5 years and should be fully aware of the guidelines by this point. Padgriffin Griffin's Nest 10:38, 5 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your thoughts on flags vs colors. Huh, I guess you're right! Not new anymore. These last couple years have felt so bizarre. Best wishes. MestizaMetaphor (talk) 14:59, 5 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding Hayan Abdullah[edit]

I just saw you have moved my created article (Hayan Abdulla) to the draft space and you told it needs reliable sources. The subject has reliable sources. If you see there are news article from The Hindi and The New Indian Express (which is reliable sources). So I think the subject should be on main space. A barnstar for you![edit]

The Anti-Vandalism Barnstar
Many thanks for your edit on my talk page. Much appreciated Denisarona (talk) 08:01, 27 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
No problem, mate. Thanks for the Barnstar! Padgriffin Griffin's Nest 08:02, 27 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

An article you recently created, Sunny Side Up (Singaporean TV series), is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. Uh, wrong person, mate. I draftified that article and tagged it with R2- I guess a user did a copy-paste move back to mainspace? Padgriffin Griffin's Nest 16:46, 31 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Eighth anniversary on Wikipedia[edit]

Reverted edit[edit]

Hello Padgriffin, I was a little perplexed by your decision that an edit I made - https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Shackleford&diff=1081413487 - "did not appear constructive"; given that the footnoted statement on Richard Wyatt, viz. "A prominent member of the Carpenters' Company, one of the City's Livery Companies" lacks any cited source, and the only source cited for that paragraph, https://www.british-history.ac.uk/vch/surrey/vol3/pp24-42 , makes no reference to these alleged facts about Wyatt, I query how you would have preferred I mark the statement as requiring citation- and assure you the edit was indeed constructive. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 88.109.201.123 (talk) 08:37, 7 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Citation needed tags are used by inserting the {{Citation needed}} tag. Please read Wikipedia:Citation needed on how to properly tag claims. Padgriffin Griffin's Nest 08:42, 7 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

New Page Patrol newsletter May 2022[edit]

New Page Review queue March 2022

Hello Padgriffin,

At the time of the last newsletter (No.26, September 2021), the backlog was 'only' just over 6,000 articles. In the past six months, the backlog has reached nearly 16,000, a staggering level not seen in several years. A very small number of users had been doing the vast majority of the reviews. Due to "burn-out", we have recently lost most of this effort. Furthermore, several reviewers have been stripped of the user right for abuse of privilege and the articles they patrolled were put back in the queue.

Several discussions on the state of the process have taken place on the talk page, but there has been no action to make any changes. The project also lacks coordination since the "position" is vacant.

In the last 30 days, only 100 reviewers have made more than 8 patrols and only 50 have averaged one review a day. There are currently 818 New Page Reviewers, but about a third have not had any activity in the past month. All 859 administrators have this permission, but only about a dozen significantly contribute to NPP.

This means we have an active pool of about 450 to address the backlog. We cannot rely on a few to do most of the work as that inevitably leads to burnout. A fairly experienced reviewer can usually do a review in a few minutes. If every active reviewer would patrol just one article per day, the backlog would very quickly disappear.

If you have noticed a user with a good understanding of Wikipedia notability and deletion, do suggest they help the effort by placing {{subst:NPR invite}} on their talk page.

If you are no longer very active on Wikipedia or you no longer wish to be part of the New Page Reviewer user group, please consider asking any admin to remove you from the list. This will enable NPP to have a better overview of its performance and what improvements need to be made to the process and its software.

To opt-out of future mailings, please remove yourself here.
