MOT Charter School

Hi Palindromesemordnilap, can you please add {{Db-g7}} to Draft:MOT Charter School 2 to request author deletion — you had originally created this one in mainspace by copying the draft at Draft:MOT Charter School. Hi Steven (Editor), thanks for reaching out to me. Yes, I just added {{Db-g7}} to Draft:MOT Charter School 2 to request author deletion. When I was working on this article, I somehow did not realize that drafts can just be moved to mainspace. Thank you for helping me correct that error.
I have a question about the article submission process. I have (and, at the time of submission, also had) permission to create articles in mainspace. Should I just move Draft:MOT Charter School to the mainspace, or is it best practice to submit an article for review even when I can create articles in mainspace? You're welcome and thanks for requesting the deletion. Articles shouldn't be copied and pasted as this splits the page histories, instead the move button should be used which would keep everything together. As for drafts, it is best to follow the draft process so that it can be reviewed by another editor in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines, who will then publish it to the mainspace if eligible, or decline it with the reasons why and what you would need to do next before resubmitting. I know it says it will take time until it's reviewed but it will be reviewed, sometimes they are done pretty quickly, it varies.
You're more than welcome to create articles directly in mainspace, just make sure when you do, they meet the general notability guideline, are written from a neutral point of view and sourced with reliable, independent sources. For schools, we have a school article guidelines which would be best to follow as this describes how the content of school articles should be organized, with the aim of providing general guidance to editors. Hello there! Regarding You Again, Cats & Dogs: The Revenge of Kitty Galore, So Undercover, and MOS:REPEATLINK and MOS:OVERLINK. Would linking Reno, Nevada, Kansas City or San Francisco be considered breaking the locations rule of MOS:OVERLINK? Sorry for asking you these questions, but I'm rather new to wikipedia and I would absolutely love to be able to contribute to it better. Also what would be things I should link? I found the part in the MOS:OVERLINK rather inconherent. Also, would you consider this something that could go on wikipedia?

Hi @2604:3d09:1f77:ce00:9429:732b:f067:d627:, welcome to Wikipedia! I would say that linking those cities could be fine (there's no hard and fast rule for what is/isn't overlinking). My personal rule for linking is that if I think, "I wish there had been a link there," then I add the link. In general, I'd say many articles are already well-linked, so perhaps err on the side of not linking, but if you find yourself wishing for the link, then add it.
If you check out your talk page, I made a little summary of (1) what overlinking is and (2) what duplicate and repeat links are. Here's the link to that message on your talk page: User talk:2604:3D09:1F77:CE00:9429:732B:F067:D627#Explanation of MOS:REPEATLINK and MOS:OVERLINK.

Oh, @2604:3d09:1f77:ce00:9429:732b:f067:d627:, one other thing. I might recommend starting by adding content to pages, and then move into linking and grammar stuff once you have a good feel for what sorts of things are linked and what sort of style is used on Wikipedia, which you'll figure out as you add content to more articles. It's definitely possible to start with linking, grammar, and stuff like that, but I think it could be easier to start with content addition-based edits. Our project

Good afternoon Palindromesemordnilap. I noted a recent edit you made to the Delta Delta Delta page, reverting vandalism. Thanks for that.

Should you have further interest in Greek societies, we'd welcome your participation on our shared project, the Fraternities and Sororities Project.

For many of us, these institutions represent a very impactful period in our lives. I know of several chapter advisors among the regular 300 participants, along with general alumni and undergrads that are Wiki-savvy. We presently keep an eye on 1,500 or so Greek pages, while a fairly substantial number of recent or dormant local chapters don't make the cut. There are perhaps 6,000 locals that do not have a Wikipedia article, and maybe 50 that do - mostly at Ivy League schools. Long ago, the Baird's Manual editors decided to include as national groups those societies that had three or more chapters, or locals that met a certain bar of longevity: ten years or more. We follow that same logic.

The Project page lists several items on our To Do list, but among them are:

  1. Review any of our watched pages for vandalism.
  2. Update chapter information for the many lists of chapters.
  3. Write an article to list the Greeks on a particular campus. 50 of these have been done, so far.
  4. Research a new article for a page that is missing. On our watchlist, these show up as red links.
  5. Vote on whether to keep a contested page or not.

There is a debate among editors on Wikipedia about whether to aggressively delete articles or allow their inclusion, based on a notoriously fickle determination of NOTIBILITY. Once an article is factually and cleanly written, I personally favor Inclusion, in order to make life easier for future researchers. Especially for fraternity, sorority and collegiate society articles.

If this last issue is of interest, you may wish to weigh in on a recent discussion of an "Article for Deletion" or AfD: Two or three of these crop up each month. One we are currently discussing is Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Delta Beta Phi. Voting is simple, and the instructions are at the top. Just add a line, with your vote, to Keep or Delete (or some other option) bolded at the start of the line.

I happened to notice this instance of vandalism because I was looking at "Recent changes" to Wikipedia, and I saw that the changes to this article looked surprising and, on further inspection, went against sourced information in the article. This is a dynamic list and may never be able to satisfy particular standards for completeness. You can help by adding missing items with reliable sources. (bolding my own)
I'm not sure that either of the links you provided is a reliable source since they don't appear to be independent sources as they appear to be closely affiliated with the subject.
Moreover, every entry on this list has an associated Wikipedia article, so I think the first bullet point here describes the selection criteria being used for this list. To quote, the selection criteria are that "Every entry meets the notability criteria for its own non-redirect article in the English Wikipedia." To begin the article creation process for this individual (which should only be done if you believe the individual meets the notability requirements for an article), or for anything/anyone else, check out WP:FIRST.
Before beginning an article, though, I would recommend visiting the WP:TEAHOUSE to ask any questions you have about creating articles, adding to lists, or editing in general. Thanks, warshy, I'm glad you like it! To revert the image in my signature, I used some websites – I think a combination of this one and this one, or something similar – where you can type in a word, and then you get the corresponding characters that look like the word you entered but upside down. For example, for the upside down "l", it suggested using a version of the letter Nun, which is not a letter I knew would look like an upside down "l" but apparently does a pretty good job! palindrome§ǝɯoɹpuᴉןɐd 21:32, 30 January 2021 (UTC)
Thanks for the explanations. I'm still a little confused about the difference between the username and the signature name, but I guess you couldn't use the § sing in the username. warshy, don't worry about it! My intent was for the signature to just be a stylized form of my username. I chose the § sign with the idea that it looks like an "s", and I also thought it improved the readability of my username, and made for a good divider between links to my user and talk pages (nothing deeper than that, really). So it's kind of like "palindrome§ǝɯoɹpuᴉןɐd" → "palindromesǝɯoɹpuᴉןɐd" → "palindromesemordnilap" (my username). I set a custom signature in Preferences > Signature. The custom signature (with bolding, links, and colors) is
[[User:Palindromesemordnilap|<b style="color:#800000">palindrome</b>]]§[[User talk:Palindromesemordnilap|<b style="color:#017745">ǝɯoɹpuᴉןɐd</b>]]
which (without bolding, colors, and real links) is basically

I also dropped by because of your signature. While I currently use a mirror-image signature, I've previously had upside-down ones. I have a suggested tweak which I think would be an improvement to your signature. Replace the with <span style="position:relative;top:.2em;">ᴉ</span> to produce palindrome§ǝɯoɹpuןɐd. I was using an iPad when I wrote the above. It occurred to me that this may appear differently on different devices, so I checked, and I see that everything lines up fine in your current signature on Windows, although on some browsers, such as Firefox and IE, some letters are bolder than others. On iPads and Macs, the "ᴉ" is much higher than the other text; additionally, on Macs the upside-down "l" is bent. On an iPhone, it's all lined up, but the "ᴉ" has serifs, so it doesn't match the right-side-up one. On Androids, it's almost right, but the upside-down "l" is just a tiny bit too high. I remember that it was such differences (as well as some letters not showing up at all in some cases) that prompted me to abandon my upside-down signatures. Oh, well. (BTW, sorry about messing up the section heading – it's always hazardous when editing with an iPad.) MANdARAX  XAЯAbИAM 21:15, 27 May 2021 (UTC)
Hi Mandarax, oh, that makes sense! I'm editing on Windows, and it shows up almost perfectly there, so I was wondering what things were looking like from your end. I also have an Android, and I see the issue you mentioned of a mis-aligned "l" on there, but that's it.
Here's the message I had typed before getting an edit conflict and seeing your message (I included a screenshot of what my original signature looks like to me, and of what my signature looks like to me with the suggestion you made):
"I'm glad you like my signature – you've definitely had your share of cool signatures over the years! Thanks for the suggestion, too. The use of top:.2em; seems like it could come in handy. I think I'll leave my signature how it is for now because, at least from my end, it renders pretty well. For me, adding <span style="position:relative;top:.2em;">ᴉ</span> ends up displacing the upside-down "i" character. I captured a screenshot of my current signature (first image), and of the signature with the additional code added (second image)."

It's too bad it's not consistent everywhere. I'm back on an iPad now, and the version I displayed above with my modification looks just like your first image file, of how you see your signature. Sir he is the chief of the whole dept, you demoted him (LOL), the battalion chief is kind of like the manager of Field operations, it is the position after captain. I told you to ask me if you have any questions. Please leave it like I had it. It's not bothering anyone, and anyone bothering to read about the fire department would know what a Battalion Chief is. A Battalion is a group of men. Like the military also uses the word battalion as do all fire departments. Thank you Doriden (talk) 20:54, 9 June 2021 (UTC)

(I thought it was saying that John Looney is the new battalion chief, but it was saying that he was a battalion chief and is now the chief.) Follow-up message

The fire chief, unlike a Battalion Chief (there are several Battalion chiefs) is an administrative position and seldom respond to fire scenes unless a very large fire or some kind of unusual situation or injury or a death involved. A Battalion Chief is the field chief and is in charge of the shift, whether it be a 12 hour shift, 24 hr shift, or whatever that particular city is using. It could be 2 days on 3 days off, etc.. but they are supervised by the Battalion Chief. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions. Thank you Doriden (talk) 21:06, 9 June 2021 (UTC)

Additional info on term "battalion chief"

A large city with more firefighters may have more than one Battalion Chief on duty for each shift (work period). The city that I worked for had 4 Battalion Chiefs on duty each shift. The FDNY has more than 50 Battalion chiefs on duty each shift. The Battalion Chief reports to the Deputy Chief, who in turn reports to the chief of the Department.
