Hello Peigimccann, and welcome to Wikipedia. While we appreciate your contributing to Wikipedia, there are certain things you must keep in mind about using information from your sources to avoid copyright or plagiarism issues here.

You can only copy/translate a small amount of a source, and you must mark what you take as a direct quotation with double quotation marks (") and a cited source. You can read about this at Wikipedia:Non-free content in the sections on "text". See also Wikipedia:Referencing for beginners, for how to cite sources here.
Aside from limited quotation, you must put all information in your own words and structure, in proper paraphrase. Following the source's words too closely can create copyright problems, so it is not permitted here; see Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing. (There is a college level introduction to paraphrase, with examples, hosted by the Online Writing Lab of Purdue.) Even when using your own words, you are still, however, asked to cite your sources to verify information and to demonstrate that the content is not original research.
Our primary policy on using copyrighted content is Wikipedia:Copyrights. You may also want to review Wikipedia:Copy-paste.
In very rare cases (that is, for sources that are public domain or compatibly licensed), it may be possible to include greater portions of a source text. However, please seek help at the help desk before adding such content to the article. 99.9% of sources may not be added in this way, so it is necessary to seek confirmation first. If you do confirm that a source is public domain or compatibly licensed, you will still need to provide full attribution; see Wikipedia:Plagiarism for the steps you need to follow.
Also note that Wikipedia articles may not be copied without attribution. If you want to copy from another Wikipedia project or article, you can, but please follow the steps in Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia.

It's very important that contributors understand and follow these practices, as policy requires that people who persistently do not must be blocked from editing. I see that you are working on Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/Gillies Hill. Before you submit this draft for AfC Review, please make sure that any possible copyright issues have been taken care of. (A previous version was deleted for copyright infringement of the Save Gillies Hill website.) Hi Sheronink, Yes, I've put sections from Peter Paterson's book and writing in my own words. Hopefully those and all others are now OK. I've also figured out the footnotes and how to place images more appropriately. I'm not quite ready to re-submit it, I'd like to proof it a couple of times first. Controverial section[edit]

Dear Peigimccann:

You certainly have put a lot of work into the Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/Gillies Hill article. It will be coming up for review shortly. I notice that on the final section, which contains some information that could be controversial, you don't have any citations. Since your information is very specific, I assume that you know of sources - news reports, magazine articles, books, etc. If you add citations to these sources to support your information in that section, it will be more likely to remain after the article is put into the encyclopedia. As per your suggestion, I've added references to the final section. One thing I'm confused about is that an alert says I should be using User: Peigimccann. How do I change that and will that bump the article back? Thanks.

Now that Gillies Hill has been created, it needs to be polished up a bit. It seems that refs do not point to the specific page, but just to a domain. I am afraid that the full page is needed, but Google will help, or your browser history. Using the cite web template will make things neater. It is a very comprehensive article, or so it seems, but I am concerned that some parts are overly based on other sources. That should in due course change as it is updated and edited. Many thanks. File permission problem with File:Eurasian red squirrel Sciurus vulgaris.png[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Eurasian red squirrel Sciurus vulgaris.png, which you've attributed to Douglas Campbell. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.

If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

Please delete File:Eurasian red squirrel Sciurus vulgaris.png I am not currenlty using it in the Gillies Hill article and so have no reason to pursue proving copyright. thank-you.

Thanks for uploading File:New bridge near castle ruins.jpg. I noticed that this file is being used under a claim of fair use. However, I think that the way it is being used fails the first non-free content criterion. This criterion states that files used under claims of fair use may have no free equivalent; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Wikipedia. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:

Go to the file description page and add the text {{Di-replaceable fair use disputed|<your reason>}} below the original replaceable fair use template, replacing <your reason> with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable.
