Eurovision Mini Memorandum 16 September 2012 A new RfC has opened at Project Eurovision in regards to how "Country by Contest" articles such as Albania in the Eurovision Song Contest, Denmark in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest and Australia in the ABU Song Festivals will be stylised. It is important that all members of this project participate in the discussion so that we can share our views on how these articles should be presented, what content could do with being added/removed. If a consensus is reached and you have failed to participate then you only have yourself to blame if you disagreed with the layout style that has been reached. WTA Challenger "Tour"

I see you created WTA Challenger Tour and 2012 WTA Challenger Tour. All WTA sources call it WTA Challenger Series. "WTA Challenger Tour" has many Google hits but they are mostly Wikipedia mirrors. The Google search "WTA Challenger Tour" -Wikipedia claims many results at the top but actually only gives me 43 hits when the last page (currently numbered 6) is clicked. And most of those 43 copied the name from Wikipedia without saying "Wikipedia" on the page. Would you object to moving the articles? PrimeHunter (talk) 12:57, 23 September 2012 (UTC)

Thanks. Inspiration from ATP was my guess for your chosen name. Until 2008 they had ATP Tour and ATP Challenger Series. In 2009 they changed to ATP World Tour and ATP Challenger Tour. Maybe WTA will change both their names one day if the Challenger Series becomes successful. Having a "WTA Tour" and "WTA Challenger Tour" at the same time might cause confusion (but heck, they chose "Premier" to mean both one event type and a common name for three). I moved the articles and updated some wikilinks but there is a process-based oppose to a speedy category renaming at Wikipedia:Categories for discussion/Speedy#Opposed nominations. The G7 criteria on the page is "G7. Author requests renaming." Will you post there to explicitly say whether you want the category renamed? PrimeHunter (talk) 21:36, 24 September 2012 (UTC)

And finally, the newsdesk are looking to recruit a couple of project volunteers to assist in compiling the monthly newsletters, as one of the co-ordinators has taken an indefinite period of time away from Wikipedia due to personal reasons. WikiProject Eurovision: Important Announcement

WikiProject Eurovision Important Announcement Dear Project Member Following a project community discussion, which was raised over the use of English translation columns on annual contest articles, and advice from the lead coordinator of The Guild of Copy Editors, who are extremely knowledgeable in regards to all editing practises and manual of style policies. A consensus decision has been reached to fully remove ALL English translations, as such content falls under the prohibition on original research, even if it seems helpful to the reader. This is because we have now to assume that every reader has access to automated translation tools that can always give them a sense of the meaning of the title in their native language; it is not Wikipedia's job to provide those tools for the reader. Which therefore means we are no longer to include an English translation column, nor are we to provide translation by any other means on contest articles. Such information is currently in the process of being removed, and a new table formatting and layout style is being rolled out across all articles. Invitation to the African Destubathon

Hi. You may be interested in participating in the African Destubathon which starts on October 15. Africa currently has over 37,000 stubs and badly needs a quality improvement editathon/contest to flesh out basic stubs. There are proposed substantial prizes to give to editors who do the most articles, and planned smaller prizes for doing to most destubs for each of the 53 African countries, so should be enjoyable! So it would be a good chance to win something for improving stubs on African sportspeople, including footballers, athletes, Olympians and Paralympians etc, particularly female ones, but also male. Even if contests aren't your thing we would be grateful if you could consider destubbing a few African articles during the drive to help the cause and help reduce the massive 37,000 + stub count, of which many are rated high importance (think Regions of countries etc). If you're interested in competing or just loosely contributing a few expanded articles on African Paralympians, Olympians and committees etc, please add your name to the Contestants/participants section. Asian 10,000 Challenge invite

Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Asia/The 10,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge and Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like South East Asia, Japan/China or India etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. At some stage we hope to run some contests to benefit Asian content, a destubathon perhaps, aimed at reducing the stub count would be a good place to start, based on the current Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon which has produced near 200 articles in just three days. If you would like to see this happening for Asia, and see potential in this attracting more interest and editors for the country/countries you work on please sign up and being contributing to the challenge! This is a way we can target every country of Asia, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia. We need numbers to make this work so consider signing up as a participant! Voting in the 2016 Arbitration Committee elections is open from Monday, 00:00, 21 November through Sunday, 23:59, 4 December to all unblocked users who have registered an account before Wednesday, 00:00, 28 October 2016 and have made at least 150 mainspace edits before Sunday, 00:00, 1 November 2016.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.
