Contested deletion

This article should not be speedy deleted as being recently created, having no relevant page history and duplicating an existing English Wikipedia topic, because this is my user page and the requestor has requested this out of spite due to his numerous deletions of content on a self-promotional wiki article -- Chrissymad ❯❯❯ Talk 20:38, 28 November 2016 (UTC)

I have reverted the edits by 2600:1:F418:BB6E:8C23:ED8A:90B2:A564 to your user page. In my opinion, that was just vandalism. Deli nk (talk) 20:43, 28 November 2016 (UTC)
@Deli nk: Thanks! It was retaliatory from an account that has been banned several times today due to creating self-promotional pages (and non-notable) for themselves. Chrissymad ❯❯❯ Talk 20:46, 28 November 2016 (UTC)

Using template "uw-coi-username" on Emberonium

I'll be to the point: I believe you meant to use uw-coi. uw-coi-username is for someone with a username that violates the "implies shared use" guideline who has also created an article that their username implies a conflict of interest in. I've nearly done it myself too. Make sure to check the template preview before you post it. NOTNOTABLE (talk) 15:44, 1 December 2016 (UTC)

The article he/she created was called Emberonium, which I would think is a COI but is that only applied to groups/companies etc...? Like if I wrote a book called "ChrissyMad" and then created my UN, created an article, wouldn't that be a COI in both Username and content creation? Chrissymad ❯❯❯ Talk 15:46, 1 December 2016 (UTC)
Yes, but look at the template. It explicitly talks about promoting companies and shared use usernames. (Frankly, I've been considering editing it so that it's more general.) NOTNOTABLE (talk) 17:01, 1 December 2016 (UTC)
Ah, I see what you mean and agree maybe there needs to be a more broad warning or perhaps a discussion because I think the COI is limited and too specific at the moment because it doesn't cover subjects like my example, which seem to be the biggest issue here (like Aaron Christopher ) Chrissymad ❯❯❯ Talk 17:06, 1 December 2016 (UTC)

G1 and G3

Just so you know, G1 is reserved for things that are actually incoherent or gibberish and no meaning can be derived - not poor english or ideas that are expressed poorly. G3 is when vandalism is very obvious - since it inherently assumes bad faith (an intent to vandalize Wikipedia), it shouldn't be used if there is a reasonable possibility the user wrote the article in good faith (even if the article is promotional/obviously invented/not significant). Appable (talk) 18:56, 6 December 2016 (UTC)

If you're referring to the G1 tag on Lisi de jaguey I'd consider random binary to be gibberish, is it not? I don't think that it was written in gf, nor do I think it was written maliciously. I can't recall anything that I've tagged recently g3 that wasn't vandalism (the only thing I tagged in the last hour was a troll page) Chrissymad ❯❯❯ Talk 18:59, 6 December 2016 (UTC)

Speedy on The Birkenhead Mafia

Hi Chrissymad -- I've deleted "The Birkenhead Mafia" but in future please tag negative unsourced articles about living individuals under G10 (attack pages) to get admin attention more quickly. You should also blank them. Cheers, Espresso Addict (talk) 19:42, 6 December 2016 (UTC)

I see that you nominated Lucki Starr for AfD at the same time that I speedy deleted it.

This is at least the second go-round for an article on Starr. The first one was speedy deleted: on the surface, there appeared to be sources, but the sources never mentioned Starr. This version of the article looked to be the same thing over again, so I speedy deleted it.

I don't think this needs to go through AfD, but if you think it's worth me restoring the article to put get community consensus about the fate of this article, I will. —C.Fred (talk) 19:52, 6 December 2016 (UTC)

@C.Fred: I wasn't entirely sure if it met CSD, so I did AFD but in retrospect, I agree with your consensus. It's not notable and the sources don't support the article itself. Chrissymad ❯❯❯ Talk 19:56, 6 December 2016 (UTC)

@C.Fred: Well, looks like it's back again anyway! Chrissymad ❯❯❯ Talk 20:04, 6 December 2016 (UTC)

Bonobo (Slang) A1/NPP

Hi, it looks like you are trying to help out with patrolling new pages, which is great. I noticed that your speedy tag on Bonobo (Slang) doesn't meet the criteria there. CSD A1 is to be used only if you can't tell what the article is about. Something like an article titled "Bob Smith" with "The chair he sits on is white and pretty" as the only text. It's also good form to not tag an article like that within the first 30 minutes of creation because it would be biting the newcomers. It might be helpful for you to read through the tutorial at WP:NPP again. It deals with situations like this and links to other policies like WP:CSD. The general rule to follow with NPP is "if you are unsure, pass on it." It helps keep the patrolling accurate and not discourage legitimate newcomers from creating new articles. Thanks again for trying to help out. TonyBallioni (talk) 20:25, 6 December 2016 (UTC)

Yeah I realize now that was a poor choice. It was kind of nonsensical (imo) but I also wasn't sure what it could fall under since it's more or less a non-notable subject but not covered by anything under notability. Chrissymad ❯❯❯ Talk 20:26, 6 December 2016 (UTC)
I added the A7 db-web tag to it because it appears mainly to be about web content that isn't notable. Like I said: thank you for trying to help with this. NPP is in backlog and we really do need all the help we can get. The policies can take some time to understand, so it might be good to spend more time reading and commenting at AfD and only tagging articles for speedy deletion that you are confident meet the deletion criteria. TonyBallioni (talk) 20:33, 6 December 2016 (UTC)

December 2016

Information icon Hello Chrissymad. Thanks for patrolling new pages – it's a very important task! I'm just letting you know, however, that there is consensus that we shouldn't tag pages as lacking context (CSD A1) and/or content (CSD A3) moments after they are created. It is also suggested that pages that might meet CSD A7 criteria not be tagged for deletion immediately after they are created. It's usually best to wait at least 10–15 minutes for more content to be added if the page is very short, and the articles should not be marked as patrolled. Tagging such pages in a very short space of time may drive away well-meaning contributors, which is not good for Wikipedia. Attack pages (G10), blatant nonsense (G1), copyright violations (G12) and pure vandalism/blatant hoaxes (G3) should of course be tagged and deleted immediately. Thanks. Deletion tagging

Hi again, just noting that it is typically bad form to tag something for deletion, speedy, PROD, or even AfD, almost immediately after it is created like you did at Ghulam Rasool Dehlvi. While the articles might end up needing to be deleted in the long-term, it often chills new editor trying to contribute, and could prevent Wikipedia from gaining content that is actually useful. Like I said above, the tutorial at WP:NPP is a very useful resource on dealing with this. TonyBallioni (talk) 20:02, 7 December 2016 (UTC)

I understand, however I didn't think this applied when a user continually makes new pages that fall into this category and are related in terms of notability or affiliation. Today, for example, there was a user who continued to make profile pages (as articles) for every member of a local bank, yet none were notable and it was merely an individual creating the equivalent of a company 'about us' website. Chrissymad ❯❯❯ Talk 20:05, 7 December 2016 (UTC)
The article I mentioned above was created by a sometimes editor who looks to be back from a long wiki-break, and I didn't see any other deletion notifications on his talk page other than the AfD you started. I haven't looked into it more than just a quick overview, and it very well might need to be deleted, but I don't have a strong opinion on that, but nominating it via AfD within two minutes of being created is good practice for NPP. and wanted to bring it up. Again, I'm appreciative of having more people doing NPP, but I also think it is important to give article creators a chance to build an article rather than having a deletion discussion started two minutes after it was created. TonyBallioni (talk) 20:14, 7 December 2016 (UTC)
Hey Chrissymad. I'm actually also stopping by on a deletion issue. On Oliver Lavender, which I've deleted: inappropriate and useless with no place here? Absolutely. Blatant vandalism (as you tagged it)? Not at all – and it was a perfect A7 candidate.--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 23:16, 7 December 2016 (UTC)
Adding to this - vandalism speedy deletion makes a bad-faith assumption about the article. It is usually far more likely that the person did not know Wikipedia's goals or policies, and making a judgement like vandalism drives potential contributors away. Appable (talk) 02:09, 8 December 2016 (UTC)

CSD tagging

You tagged EXECUTIVE POWER BASED ON FEDERAL CONSTITUTION OF MALAYSIA as a copyvio. Firstly, that was a redirect that I created, not an article. I moved the actual article to a different name. So, you should not have notified me, I didn't create the article. You also probably should have tagged the actual article instead of the redirect. Also, the article wasn't really a copyvio, it was a close paraphrasing, and wasn't blatant enough that CSD G12 applies, you should have PRODed it or made an AfD. ThePlatypusofDoom (talk) 15:36, 9 December 2016 (UTC)

@ThePlatypusofDoom: Apologies - I tagged it as it was being moved (I hadn't refreshed) and it is very similar to the other copyvios on the exact same subject that have come through today and google revealed exact wording from several sources depending on which piece of the article was searched. See Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Consti Group 7 Chrissymad ❯❯❯ Talk 15:40, 9 December 2016 (UTC)

It wasn't exact, however. It wasn't blatant enough for a CSD. You can just slightly change the wording of some phrases, CSD is when the entire article's a copyvio, and when it's unsalvageable copyvio, you can't make some changes and fix the copyvio issue, as you could here. Information icon Please do not delete or flag potential "spoilers" in Wikipedia articles, as you did in the article List of The Walking Dead (TV series) characters. It is generally expected that the subjects of Wikipedia articles will be covered in detail, and giving a section a title such as "Plot" or "Ending" is considered sufficient warning to the reader that the text will contain revelations about the narrative. Deleting such information makes the article less useful for a reader who is specifically trying to find out more about the subject. For more information, see Wikipedia's guidelines on spoilers. Thank you. Sundayclose (talk) 17:21, 12 December 2016 (UTC)

@Risingupagain: The article was not deleted - see here:James Jameson (entrepreneur). I am not an admin though, so for future reference I wouldn't be able to provide any of that. With that being said, I would suggest strongly that you create a draft after going over this guideline for creating your first article so you don't run the risk of deletion. As far as those sources go, they are all interviews or written by the subject. I would not consider those to be adequate for an article without also having true, independent sources, which is why I think you should create a draft so you can get other editors opinions. @Hemant banswal:Hi there. An edit request should not be posted on user talk pages, instead, it should be posted on the article's talk page. An edit request should not ask for a review of the changes that have already been made to the article (if you have a connection to the subject in question, such changes should not be made in the first place).
