Final Fantasy Legend III template "Video game release|JP|Square Enix"

Hi, I just wanted to ask why did you replace the template \{\{Video game release|JP|Square Enix\}\} to "BR" on Final Fantasy Legend III. Just curious. Thank you for the explanation in advance. Maxim Masiutin (talk) 19:41, 9 January 2021 (UTC)

@Maxim Masiutin: Square Enix published the DS version which is a JP-exclusive release, while the Switch compilation port is a worldwide release. I was trying to simplify things. --ProtoDrake (talk) 21:44, 9 January 2021 (UTC)

Trauma Center review trade?

Re: WT:VG#Review Thread 50! - I see that you also have two GANs that have been up for a while, are you interested in doing a review trade?--AlexandraIDV 23:55, 1 January 2021 (UTC)

...Don't feel pressured, but I have two non-VG GANs that have been waiting for reviews for a while now: the RPG book Le Monde des Ténèbres: France, and the children's story Historien om någon. If you're up for further review trades, I'll review one/both of your current GANs in exchange for a review of one/both of mine.--AlexandraIDV 14:18, 18 January 2021 (UTC)

Reply tool

Graph of Reply tool and full-page wikitext edit completion rates
Completion rates for comments made with the Reply tool and full-page wikitext editing. Details and limitations are in this report.

The Reply tool is available at most other Wikipedias.

  • The Reply tool has been deployed as an opt-out preference to all editors at the Arabic, Czech, and Hungarian Wikipedias.
  • It is also available as a Beta Feature at almost all Wikipedias except for the English, Russian, and German-language Wikipedias. If it is not available at your wiki, you can request it by following these simple instructions.

Research notes:

  • As of January 2021, more than 3,500 editors have used the Reply tool to post about 70,000 comments.
  • There is preliminary data from the Arabic, Czech, and Hungarian Wikipedia on the Reply tool. Junior Contributors who use the Reply tool are more likely to publish the comments that they start writing than those who use full-page wikitext editing.[1]
  • The Editing and Parsing teams have significantly reduced the number of edits that affect other parts of the page. About 0.3% of edits did this during the last month.[2] Some of the remaining changes are automatic corrections for Special:LintErrors.
  • A large A/B test will start soon.[3] This is part of the process to offer the Reply tool to everyone. During this test, half of all editors at 24 Wikipedias (not including the English Wikipedia) will have the Reply tool automatically enabled, and half will not. Editors at those Wikipeedias can still turn it on or off for their own accounts in Special:Preferences.

New discussion tool

Screenshot of version 1.0 of the New Discussion Tool prototype.

The new tool for starting new discussions (new sections) will join the Discussion tools in Special:Preferences#mw-prefsection-betafeatures at the end of January. You can try the tool for yourself.[4] You can leave feedback in this thread or on the talk page.

Next: Notifications

During Talk pages consultation 2019, editors said that it should be easier to know about new activity in conversations they are interested in. The Notifications project is just beginning. What would help you become aware of new comments? What's working with the current system? Which pages at your wiki should the team look at? Please post your advice at mw:Talk:Talk pages project/Notifications.

A Source for An Article

I noticed that you deleted a sentence I put on the page Bionicle: Mask of Light where I put that the film was owned by Lego.

This has already been confirmed, and there’s a video that proves this. It’s for the second film however, but all the three movies (not the fourth Universal one) have the same copyright.

Here is a link to the evidence that LEGO owns it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zx5xYLto1bs Bombastic Brody (talk) 21:58, 27 January 2021 (UTC)

@Bombastic Brody: It was stated elsewhere in the text and sources that Lego are the owners of the Bionicle IP, so saying they own the movie isn't really necessary. And as to the rest of any content I trimmed, I did it because it was not cited, or cited with sources that wouldn't pass muster in a GA article. Also, it added a lot of bloat to the article, and/or repeated already-established information in an unencyclopedic style. --ProtoDrake (talk) 22:04, 27 January 2021 (UTC)
Also you removed the sentences that I also put in the page about Disney releasing and branding the film in other countries. Here is a link to a promotional image for the regular Polish Disney DVD release and the Russian Disney DVD Special Edition release:

https://web.archive.org/web/20210127220423/https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn%3AANd9GcT-wgfBGc1Oz_gl15y8rXKFEC3ovdYo9IsNe-hG5lMeLm3DzRM%3Ahttps%3A%2F%2Fi.iplsc.com%2F-%2F00048MI3LUI2PEU3-C460.jpg&usqp=CAU

https://web.archive.org/web/20200928133608/https://store.otaku.ru/static/i/Bionecle-Mask-Light-Videoservis.jpg
The one for the Polish release is kind of blurry, but your able to make it out enough and tell it’s the Disney DVD branding. Bombastic Brody (talk) 22:08, 27 January 2021 (UTC)
Also I noticed that there was some other stuff that I sourced that was still removed. Also if I source the games and toys, would that be fine? Bombastic Brody (talk) 22:09, 27 January 2021 (UTC)
@Bombastic Brody: It's already mentioned in the "Design" and "Legacy" text (source here and here) that the film designs became toys in the Bionicle line. The Legacy section covers the video game elements. As to the sources above, online store and resale-sources images aren't acceptable sources for GAs. I've tried to make it a little clearer in the "Legacy" section about the toy designs. I would recommend Wikipedia:Reliable sources, and ask editors to clarify what is and isn't admissible. --ProtoDrake (talk) 22:20, 27 January 2021 (UTC)

Alright, this definitely makes a lot more sense. Thanks for clearing some things up. Bombastic Brody (talk) 22:47, 27 January 2021 (UTC)

Information icon Hello. Regarding the recent revert you made to 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim: you may already know about them, but you might find Wikipedia:Template messages/User talk namespace useful. After a revert, these can be placed on the user's talk page to let them know you considered their edit inappropriate, and also direct new users towards the sandbox. They can also be used to give a stern warning to a vandal when they've been previously warned. The revert was clearly needed. Thank you Sciencefish (talk) 19:07, 14 February 2021 (UTC)

Wikiproject Video games Newsletter survey

Hello ProtoDrake! I'm conducting a feature for the video games newsletter similar to that of a survey. I'm going to ask users their opinions on a specific matter and highlight unique and common answers to determine consensus on a subject. Your input would be very valuable, alongside others, to help answer this question.

The question is: How do you determine what makes a video game character notable enough for their own page? Do you follow pre-existing guidelines or have your own opinions on the matter?

Panini🥪 10:46, 16 February 2021 (UTC)

@Panini!: My answer would be; My determination for whether a character should have their own article is whether they have extensive commentary on their creation, and specific or general critical reception that mentions them outside a listicle context. Personally I didn't look at guidelines when creating the articles for Zero or Nilin. --ProtoDrake (talk) 10:58, 16 February 2021 (UTC)

Megumi Ogata and Makoto Naegi

Hi there. Long time no see. In the past weeks I created the article Makoto Naegi from the franchise Danganronpa. I managed to cover most of his details but I failed to find anything about his Japanese actress, Megumi Ogata. I did find a lot of compliments like the writers crying during recording of the sequel but nothing about the casting of Ogata or her impression of the character. If possible could you give it a look and see if Japanese sources have them? Fortunately, his English actor is covered. There is also the stage play but I haven't seen anything. Cheers.Tintor2 (talk) 13:40, 1 February 2021 (UTC)

Thanks. That was a lot about Ogata's work, opinion, career, etc about her character. Thanks for the sources.Tintor2 (talk) 18:28, 1 February 2021 (UTC)

Makoto Naegi became GA :D I've been expanding two other articles, Danganronpa and the anime Danganronpa 3: The End of Hope's Peak High School. I kinda modeled them after what you did with the Persona (series) and Blood-C. Still, I'm not sure if the main franchise article should be split into a media article baseed on that proposal Tartakus or simply reshaped into prose. About End of Hope's Peak Academy, while I found a lot of information from the man who created the franchise, I have almost nothing about the actual staff who directed the series. Trivial note: One of the directors worked in the Persona 4 anime which might explain this weird similariy. Cheers.Tintor2 (talk) 20:29, 21 February 2021 (UTC)

@Tintor2: Congrats on the GA success. I'd split it into a Media page, which can then be sourced and made an FC if you think it's possible. The ideal would be making the list article, then reworking it into a "Related Media" section with concice prose and links for the anime adaptations. As to the DG3 Anime, I had a quick scout around for possible useful sources.
Hope these help, and good luck. --ProtoDrake (talk) 21:58, 21 February 2021 (UTC)
Thanks. Seems a source was repeated but they are quite useful for the anime staff. I don't know if you are aware but the almost all the staff of that Danganronpa anime returned to make that from that last year Akudama Drive where all episodes are named after Hollywood movies.Tintor2 (talk) 22:41, 21 February 2021 (UTC)
@Tintor2: Corrected the source howler. --ProtoDrake (talk) 23:20, 21 February 2021 (UTC)

By any chance have you seen something about Norimitsu Kaiho (海法 紀光)? He is the writer for that anime and it seems he became popular for that considering he was cast as the writer for Akudama Drive as most staff members were influenced by the Danganronpa 3 anime but I couldn't find any opinion from him. I just checked in Japanese Wikipedia but there is no commentary about his opinions or anything. Anyway, thanks for that aid. All those sources were quite good.Tintor2 (talk) 22:19, 24 February 2021 (UTC)

@Tintor2: Nothing specific or from the man himself beyond what you've already found, sorry. But This Reddit post summarises a video interview Kodaka did for Bilibili that includes some titbits about his involvement, including working with Kaiho. Might be of use. I wouldn't be too stressed about it; when it comes to writer commentary, I think my work on Blood-C and its movie conclusion was a fluke. EDIT: Also found This 4Gamer.net article which seems to have staff comments from Kodaka, Taguchi and Kaiho. EDIT AGAIN: Found NewType staff interview with Kodaka and Pierrot producer Sadahiko Tominaga (part 1, part 2). --ProtoDrake (talk) 12:17, 25 February 2021 (UTC)

List of SaGa video games

Hey, I saw that you made List of SaGa video games a week ago; did you have any plans to take it to FLC at some point? Or are you done with it? I was thinking about taking it at some point if you weren't since it's the only non-featured WPSE list. Also, I saw that in your sandbox you originally were going to have music and books as well in there; was there any specific reason that made you decide to narrow it to just video games? --PresN 17:55, 9 March 2021 (UTC)

@PresN: Yes, I was thinking along the lines of taking it to FLC, but if you'd like to get it done before I get round to it, that's fine by me. As to the changes to its scope, I'd originally planned it to be a list of SaGa media including manga, guidebooks, soundtracks, ect. That version became far too large alongside real-world commitments and work I was doing at the time on Sudeki: the manga and guidebooks in particular were taking an inordinate amount of time to find sources for due to many of their publishers or web pages being dead now and requiring trawling through Wayback and other similar sites to confirm them. My current long-term projects are gradual work on the Dead Space series (aside from DS2 and 3 unless I absolutely have to) with the aim of making it a GT, and general improvement on the SaGa series since the resources are now readily available. I'm currently working on an expansion/tidy-up of the main series entry, and the remaining two Romancing SaGa titles. The Kawazu rewrite emerged by accident. --ProtoDrake (talk) 18:38, 9 March 2021 (UTC)
Okay, since you're the one that made the list I'll leave it for you and focus on the lists I've already got, and if I'm ever interested and you haven't gotten back around to it maybe I'll pick this one up. Makes sense about keeping it to just video games. --PresN 20:20, 9 March 2021 (UTC)

Minami Takayama

First of all, Danganronpa 3: The End of Hope's Peak High School became GA! :D Thanks for all those sources. I kinda managed to make an article for the lead writer, Kaiho. However, while I found articles about most actors in the anime, I found nothing about Minami Takayama, the actress who plays one of the leads of the anime, Hajime Hinata (or called Izuru Kamakura sometimes). I found a lot of interview about actors like Morikawa among others in Famitsu but I couldn't find anything in regards to Takayama. Kinda the same for Megumi Ogata since, while she voices two characters, she did not comment on her character and just commented in general was tiring work for doing two episodes per week and the dark narrative of both animes. If possible, could you see if Famitsu has something in regards to Ogata's Makoto or Minami's Hajime/Izuru? Cheers.Tintor2 (talk) 21:14, 10 March 2021 (UTC)

@Tintor2: Not much. But I've found part of a Dengeki interview which mentions the process of getting Takayama for the role. --ProtoDrake (talk) 13:20, 13 March 2021 (UTC)
Thanks. It's useful for the character at least (though it kinda looks that it will get deleted).Tintor2 (talk) 17:05, 13 March 2021 (UTC)

Don't know if you are interested but Persona character Yu Narukami has been GA for a long time. By any chance have you seen commentary about his vanilla Persona Izanagi (Izanagi no Okami included?)? Then again I don't know if that's okay with the guidelines as it might or not come across as fancruft (then again the whole Persona thing reminds me to the Stands from Jojo like Jotaro Kujo). Also, about the character I once found that the writer regrets writing one aspect about Narukami's personality but I completely forgot about that source's origin to be used. Anyway, happy ediiting.Tintor2 (talk) 14:10, 3 April 2021 (UTC)

This article has a statement that someone we don’t know says is a hoax and failed verification. Here is the text: “She was originally a female gambler named Eva Scherwil but this was changed when they found that this archetype did not fit well in the world of Final Fantasy V. They changed her character to be a pirate and sister to fellow protagonist Lenna Charlotte Tycoon.” ("Chocobo's FF Factory". V-Jump. 1993.) The article they say failed verification is from V-Jump, 1993, in an article titled “Chocobo’s FF Factory”. Could you see if that is true or not? I true you, not randoms who tag articles! Hey, how've you been? I came back to do a little cleaning, and I saw that there is talk of a Final Fantasy Unlimited radio series, and I cannot find any references to such a thing! Might I ask if you see anything? Also, how've you been? Nice to see new games like Balan Wonderworld are being well maintained! Judgesurreal777 (talk) 00:09, 6 April 2021 (UTC)

@Judgesurreal777: Going well. Real life's been busy, and thanks I've been trying to make sure Balan Wonderworld's article isn't too tainted by the negative feedback it's received but is still factually accurate. My current sandbox project is Mistwalker, and I've already found several things that busted myths about Sakaguchi's role in Square during his final years. Plus I've got GANs for the music of Dead Space and Akitoshi Kawazu. As to Unlimited, I looked and found some interesting sources. They are the official Square-supported fan page which includes media updates/dates, the Avex page which also includes information on media publications/releases for the series. The links will allow the confirmation of the pre-release web radio series, the CD drama supplements/sequels, the additional books, ect.. The JP Wikipedia pages cites tweets from animator Yoshitomo Yonetani that deals with some of the cancelled second half of the series, including how abrupt its cancellation was, alongside a narrative inspiration from outside the FF franchise. --ProtoDrake (talk) 10:47, 6 April 2021 (UTC)

While expanding Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc, l learned of its Distrust demo that was quite different from the final product like Makoto Naegi's name as "Protagonist among other stuff here. After creating the article for the heroine, Kyoko Kirigiri, I learned from its wiki that in Distrust she originally had the name of "Gyaru Kirigiri" and playing the demo she could be killed in the story. By any chance does that article from Dengeki say that about Kyoko (the name too). Cheers.Tintor2 (talk) 19:55, 19 April 2021 (UTC)

@Tintor2: Hi, sorry for the delayed repsonse. I checked, and I can't find anything anywhere about Kyoko being called that beyond those uncited Wiki claims. It's not in the Dengeki interview you linked (text or image captures), nor did I find anything from other links reporting the CEDEC event, or any commentary I could find on character designs. --ProtoDrake (talk) 21:55, 22 April 2021 (UTC)

Slime Mori Mori Dragon Quest: Shōgeki no Shippo Dan

The first game in the Slime (series) doesn’t have any article at all, if you feel inclined and aren’t too busy, could you do your magic and see what references exist? I’ve been practicing what you taught me, but this one seems a bit obscure so I wanted to ask the master! Judgesurreal777 (talk) 13:50, 24 April 2021 (UTC)

Help with Japanese punctuation

Could you please help me understand how to present Japanese on the English Wiki, particularly punctuation? I've always used half-width form with spaces for punctuation marks like the titles of works, even if the punctuation marks were officially full-width or had no spaces; for example, an official title with half-width marks would be like 一触即発!!カカシVS大蛇丸, but I'd add spaces to make it 一触即発!! カカシVS大蛇丸. But now I don't know if that's the right thing anymore, and there aren't any guidelines about it. Is there no one "proper" way to punctuate Japanese here? User:SubZeroSilver (talk) 22:10, 7 May 2021 (UTC)

@SubZeroSilver: I don't think there's a precedent. I tend to do it like this; when writing out a print article title, I put in spaces where it seems appropriate such as between two distinct phrases that wouldn't be separated by punctuation on the page due to their arrangement, but with article titles online I just copy-paste without adding or removing anything. Looking above, your first example looks better to me, but I'm not an authority on this. This needs raising with concerned WikiProjects to see if we can get a consensus, as it's a potentially important issue on punctuation for a prominent foreign language in media. --ProtoDrake (talk) 22:26, 7 May 2021 (UTC)

Wikiproject Video games Newsletter survey

I'm conducting another survey for the Wikiproject Video games Newsletter. If you could leave your thoughts on the matter it would be greatly appreciated. Every response will be compiled into a MOS-Esque answer that balances the thoughts of our top contributors. You're one of them! The question is as follows:

What would you consider the requirements of making a video game series article? What about franchise articles?

If you would like to respond, please ping me here and write your reply. I'll handle the rest. Thanks in advance, Panini!🥪 14:55, 14 May 2021 (UTC)

@Panini!: I think there are six ingredients that come together to make a VG series/franchise article. #1 is that it's acknowledged as a series at all, as some series such as many projects from Goichi Suda aren't part of the same series even if they have narrative and/or thematic connections to other titles. #2 is sources talking about the series as a whole, i.e. commentary on its history or references to it when talking about individual entries. #3 is a question related to subseries, since there can be series within series, such as Persona being a spin-off from Megami Tensei or Drakengard spawning Nier and its successors; is it possible to talk about a series on its own if it's spun-off from something else, or are they to intertwined to be separated? #4 is relevance and enough interest in the series as a whole to merit the article, and that doesn't mean niche series can't have them; as examples, Zero Escape is a series with wide-ranging commentary about it and so it merits a series, while Bayonetta has commentary generally limited to the titles. #5 is that for a series it must have at least three games counting spin-offs, while franchises must have an appreciable amount of additional media and merchandise attached to them. #6 is a little odd, since you have to consider whether a series is better represented by either a series article, individual game articles, or both; Crystal Defenders is a series but doesn't have enough commentary to merit individual game articles, while Nier exists within the Drakengard multiverse and the two are often mentioned together when talking about the series as a whole. (There, that's the whole answer.) --ProtoDrake (talk) 15:57, 14 May 2021 (UTC)

To Your Eternity staff

Hi there. Been expanding the article of the manga To Your Eternity and while I was able to cover most stuff, I was surprised with theme songs being made Utada Hikaru and Masashi Hamauzu. This series has nothing to do with Square Enix but I wonder if it is easier to find commentary from this singers to expand it more as I already found an interview with the director and the two main voice actors. Anyway, happy editing.Tintor2 (talk) 23:33, 11 May 2021 (UTC)

@Tintor2: Sorry, but I found nothing more than you've done. --ProtoDrake (talk) 09:05, 14 May 2021 (UTC)

Junior contributors comment completion rate across all participating Wikipedias
When newcomers had the Reply tool and tried to post on a talk page, they were more successful at posting a comment. (Source)

Earlier this year, the Editing team ran a large study of the Reply Tool. The main goal was to find out whether the Reply Tool helped newer editors communicate on wiki. The second goal was to see whether the comments that newer editors made using the tool needed to be reverted more frequently than comments newer editors made with the existing wikitext page editor.

The key results were:

  • Newer editors who had automatic ("default on") access to the Reply tool were more likely to post a comment on a talk page.
  • The comments that newer editors made with the Reply Tool were also less likely to be reverted than the comments that newer editors made with page editing.

These results give the Editing team confidence that the tool is helpful.

Looking ahead

The team is planning to make the Reply tool available to everyone as an opt-out preference in the coming months. This has already happened at the Arabic, Czech, and Hungarian Wikipedias.

The next step is to resolve a technical challenge. Then, they will deploy the Reply tool first to the Wikipedias that participated in the study. After that, they will deploy it, in stages, to the other Wikipedias and all WMF-hosted wikis.

You can turn on "Discussion Tools" in Beta Features now. After you get the Reply tool, you can change your preferences at any time in Special:Preferences#mw-prefsection-editing-discussion.

Courier

Hi there. I've been working in the Akudama Drive articles (well, only the main one and the lead's since there is no episode list article). While I managed to find enough information in regards to Swindler, I still think I need to find more creation in regards to Courier since there is a lot of reception about him as I worked here. The site that seems to have a lot is [5] but none of them give the source. I thought it would be easy to find them considering everything Swindler had but I can't seem to find enough about Courier in Japanese especially since there was a lot animation handling about his bike in the form of CGI. If you find anything I'll appreciate it. Cheers.Tintor2 (talk) 01:06, 2 July 2021 (UTC)

Darker than Black

In the past days I tried expanding the old article Darker than Black. While I managed to find a lot of information regards to the first seasons. There is barely info about the second. When googling tv tropes for curiosity, I found this blog where the director of the series talks about such season and the OVAs. He uses this scan as proof for such in interview but I don't think I can use the blog to reference such material. By any chance do you know how to find the original source. I already tried googling the image after asking in Discord but it keeps me sending me to the blog. Anyway, happy editing.Tintor2 (talk) 22:24, 12 July 2021 (UTC)
