Hi. Are you aware of the guidelines on verifiability and the need to add references to support the notability of the subject of a new article? Deb (talk) 16:24, 18 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Protozoon. I wanted to let you know that I’m proposing an article that you started, Nazanine Moshiri, for deletion because it's a biography of a living person that lacks references. If you don't want Nazanine Moshiri to be deleted, please add a reference to the article.

If you don't understand this message, you can leave a note on my talk page.

Thanks, Wgolf (talk) 20:18, 4 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Peter Cazalet[edit]

FYI, the Peter Cazalet who lived at Fairlawne, Shipbourne (next village to Plaxtol) was born in 1907. He was educated at Eton and served as a Major in the Guards, being present at Normandy in 1944. Was a racehorse trainer before and after the war, training the Queen Mother's horse Devon Loch which fell in the Grand National in 1956. He died in 1973. Obviously someone notable enough to have an article. If you want to have a bash. Peter Cazalet (racehorse trainer) would probably be a good title. It's a bit out of my comfort zone, but I've got a book on Shipbourne which can be used to fill in some details. Do you have access to The Times online archive? Mjroots (talk) 20:21, 16 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

A. If you plan to edit a page and resubmit it, simply: edit the submission and remove the {{db-afc}} or {{db-g13}} code. mainspace. B. If a submission has already been deleted and you wish to retrieve it, you can request its undeletion by one of two methods (don't do both): 1. follow the instructions at WP:REFUND/G13 or 2. copy this code: {{subst:Refund/G13|User:Protozoon/sandbox}}, paste it in the edit box at this link, and click "Save page". An administrator will in most cases undelete the submission. 2015.04.13: User:JMHamo.

Most recent edit on Indian Agency[edit]

Can you put some of the explanation for the change into the article itself? It makes sense in your edit detail but not as it stands in the article.
Do you have references for the changes you are making? Thank you for your work today. Bobdog54 (talk) 21:47, 8 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Not easy to explain, but if I've understood you correctly: Resident was the traditional term, dating from HEIC times, and meant literally that the officer was 'Our Man' for that physical area; AGG was the newer and more technical term, meaning that this agent answered directly to the Viceroy himself, whereas some Agencies were subordinated to Governor level; I believe all AGG had the twin-title, just as all peacetime colonial Governors (as opposed to Governors of Indian Provinces) were also CINC of the territory's defence forces; an AGG might not get round to each Taluka for which he was nominally responsible, but he would have a staff at the Residency, even if he was on tour himself; just as nobody says United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, but 'UK' or 'Britain', so Western States was similar shorthand: 'India' was superfluous in-country, and 'Agency' was understood by the word 'States'.
My family mutters darkly of 'Six-Inch Wallpaper', and my library so big that most of it is not physically with me; however, you ask so nicely I will try and dig out my Empire stash and get an ISBN, title and author; the books I'm thinking of, I bought about 30 years ago and are probably out of print.
I have been on WP nearly 10 years and you are only the 2nd person to ask for clarification so pleasantly: the other guy was User:JimSweeney? and that was about 7 years ago; oddly, that was also relating to pre-1947 India: so this obviously where the nice Wikipedians hang out...
I have a very jaded hate-love relationship with WP: I know that I am a junkie, that it does me no good and that I must kick the habit, but just one more edit...Protozoon (talk) 22:54, 8 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Protozoon,

Thanks for your edits on Sophie Walker, but do you have reference(s) for these edits on Walker's education? Thanks. --The Vintage Feminist (talk) 03:27, 8 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Vin
Your questions are entirely valid, esp for BĿP. I just wish you had asked in Jan, as Sophie has been very busy this year and when there is great scrutiny, that affects sources - for reasons good or bad. Or else that other WP had proved/disproved my leads at the time.
You detail 5 poiṇts: Reading - City - Montpellier - Hyndland - Broomhill
i:U Reading state Sophie graduated BA E&F in 1993 and has given alumni speech at uni. Her linkediṇ last entry gives a vague mention of RU. Dates fit. Her photo. Proven?
ii: Sophie states educ at City at top of linkediṇ but at bottom states p/grad dip jour. Odd pref for pg dip over valid 3/4 yr BA? A source gave long list of CityU journo alumni but no Sophie. In those days they also did short courses - more cert than dip - so I put dip in lower case. I must provide ref but not "due diligence"?
iii: saw a ref to "U Mont" but when RU cse details checked, town noted for placements but not uni - no diplome-ès-langues as per some courses. Course mentioned eg teaching asst. So kept town only. RUs BA def has French stay but cannot find this source today so will delete that info.
iv/v: saw credible source as prim school not usually in a WP biog. I spent time with map checking Hyndland-Broomhill dist for credibility to each other and whether area credible for uni - as less than 1K felt source valid - no photo to prove this. However cannot find this source today so will delete that info.
Nobody wld believe me stupid enough to transcribe refs longhand, so now I pretend I omitted them out of mere cussedness. I thank you for reminder of importance of WP:V - and of team efforts.Protozoon (talk) 19:50, 8 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there, I'm HasteurBot. I just wanted to let you know that Draft:Laura Kyle, a page you created, has not been edited in 5 months. The Articles for Creation space is not an indefinite storage location for content that is not appropriate for articlespace.

If your submission is not edited soon, it could be nominated for deletion. If you would like to attempt to save it, you will need to improve it.

You may request Userfication of the content if it meets requirements.

If the deletion has already occured, instructions on how you may be able to retrieve it are available at WP:REFUND/G13.

Thank you for your attention. HasteurBot (talk) 21:03, 24 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Protozoon. It has been over six months since you last edited the Articles for Creation submission or Draft page you started, "sandbox1/Laura Kyle".

In accordance with our policy that Wikipedia is not for the indefinite hosting of material deemed unsuitable for the encyclopedia mainspace, the draft has been nominated for deletion. If you plan on working on it further, or editing it to address the issues raised if it was declined, simply edit the submission and remove the {{db-afc}}, {{db-draft}}, or {{db-g13}} code.

If your submission has already been deleted by the time you get there, and you wish to retrieve it, you can request its undeletion by following the instructions at this link. An administrator will, in most cases, restore the submission so you can continue to work on it.

Thanks for your submission to Wikipedia, and happy editing. Legacypac (talk) 06:06, 26 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Stephen Otu, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Gold Coast (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

Citations[edit]

I hesitate to mention this to a military historian, as I know that MILHIST is expert in this matter, but it is important that all additions are cited (to reliable sources), even in list articles. We mustn't make it look as if additional claims are being cited to existing sources if that isn't where they came from. All the best, Chiswick Chap (talk) 18:50, 26 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

ICC[edit]

Dear Protozoon, thank you so much for all your kind words! I've glad is reading and appreciating the article I have written! Sometimes I can be harsh on myself for my mistakes as you probably gather by my edit summaries, but it is also just just a way to laugh myself. I'll try to get better with paragraphs. I dislike short, choppy paragraphs of a sentence or two because it is distracting, but I'll to remember that some people read their articles on their phones next time around. I know the rules about POV-pushing and OR, but sometimes I like to highlight overlooked aspects of history, to let people learn something new, which is OK as far as I'm concerned as long as one sticks to reliable sources.

Most people wouldn't think when it comes to researching the Vietnam War about learning Polish and going to Warsaw, but there is actually a huge amount of material relating to the Vietnam war in the archives of the Polish Foreign Ministry. The documents in Warsaw are being neglected by historians mostly because the historians who focus on Vietnam usually don't know Polish and the ones who do know Polish usually don't focus on Vietnam. The same goes with New Delhi and Ottawa. It seemed to be helpful to expand popular knowledge of an overlooked aspect of the Vietnam war, especially because the ICC commissioners were allowed to go anywhere in both Vietnams. I'll see what I can dig up about the other ICC figures over the coming days. There is a book online about the ICC that I think might be very useful, through it does suffer from the fact that it was published in 1984. I'll focused on Seaborn and Maneli because their lives happen to be the best documented, through I wish I could find more to flesh out the Maneli article, which is a little unbalanced at present. Unfortunately, it is difficult to find reliable sources in English about his pre- and post-ICC career. Thank you again for your kind words, which I have really made my day. It is really nice to know that people are reading and enjoying one's work. Best wishes and cheers!--A.S. Brown (talk) 02:08, 22 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Protozoon, sorry for my lateness in replying. Rather talk what is going to do, it was just better to do it, and just present the results. Thank you so for your kind words. No, I don't speak Polish-I have enough trouble with learning Mandarin! I didn't phrase that very well; what I meant is that lot of documentary material about the Vietnam war is lying in Warsaw, Ottawa and New Delhi that has neglected by historians. When I was an university student many moons ago, I used some of the Canadian material for a paper in a diplomatic history course I took. To be honest, I should thank D.C. Watt who in one of numerous essays mentioned that for historians who want to learn about daily life in Japanese-occupied China in World War Two, an excellent source is reports from the German embassy in Nanking as Germany was one of the few countries that recognised the Wang Jingwei regime. That was my inspiration to use the Canadian diplomatic papers relating to the ICC, which were conveniently available in the library, for my paper. Thank you again for all your help and kindness, which is appreciated here. I'll articles on some of the ICC figures in the coming days. I hope all is well. Best wishes and cheers! --A.S. Brown (talk) 02:08, 22 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

You changed the first name of Tony Ayrton from Antony to Anthony diffs

I was wondering, do you have any evidence that this was the spelling? The linked reference in the article, to the FreeBMD index, gives the registered name for his birth as Ayrton, Antony Maxwell. "Antony" also appears to be how he signed his works, for example as per the signature at the bottom right of [1].

Searching on Familysearch.org, it seems that "Antony" was also how his name was recorded in the 1911 census, and the grant of probate after his death in 1943. (I've pulled together the results here - free LDS login required)

I have therefore changed the name back to this form. Jheald (talk) 17:46, 6 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
Thank you for the gentle presentation of your evidence: you are right!
I do normally check my work, but I was probably concentrating on the more military details and that one slipped in by instinct! Mea culpa: I have let you down, I have let WP down and, most of all, ...
For the record, this is what the Crown says on the matter: [1].Protozoon (talk) 10:57, 21 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Hi! Not at all a problem, and thanks for the ping. My father was an Antony without a 'h', a fact that was quite important to him, so that may be why it was personal to me to get this right. Thanks again for the update, Best wishes Jheald (talk) 15:07, 18 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

ArbCom 2023 Elections voter message[edit]

Hello! Voting in the 2023 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 11 December 2023. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2023 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:28, 28 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
