Image query

Hello. Thanks for pointing this out and my apologies. I was unable to find the original publication source for this image. While looking for it, I came across a different photo of Samuel Atkins Eliot and the original publication source.

I found multiple instances of this new photo being published. One being published in 1925 (source) and the other in 1927 (source). I also found the exact image included in an article on JSTOR which was published in 1950 (source). The JSTOR claims copyright on the image within article despite it having being first published in 1925 by a separate source.

I would assume this photo is now in the public domain since it was first published in 1925 (before January 1, 1928), but wanted to see your thoughts on this before replacing/updating the photo. RGKMA (talk) 04:50, 13 February 2023 (UTC)

Yes, given the 1925 publication that seems reasonable to upload. However, would you mind reviewing your other uploads to ensure they too are appropriately sourced? On a quick look this one also seems to be missing evidence of pre-1928 publication. Nikkimaria (talk) 00:40, 14 February 2023 (UTC)

Peabody & Stearns-related work

Hi RGKMA, I see that there is some overlap between some drafts that both you and I have been making. Since I have been neglecting mine and do not know if I will return to them, I wonder if they have any material that may be of use to use. First I have a very brief draft for W. Cornell Appleton as well as my own list of works by P&S and a start of a draft of Little & Browne. If you do want any of the material here, I don't know what the process would be- I don't know if there is a way to move a user page to another user, if that is what would work.

I also have a draft of Joseph D. Leland and his partners, and I see Leland is on your list but not started. The Leland draft is the only one I have been actively working on and will continue to.

Let me know if any of this would be useful to you.

Hello! Thanks for the info! I'll be sure to look at those pages and see if any of it will be useful. I have been primarily focusing on my list of works by Peabody and Stearns lately so haven't done much with the other pages I have started. I plan on going back to them when I finish the P&S page. First, apologies for not responding to this until now. Second, if there are any projects I have on my P&S list that you do not have, feel free to copy them. Third, forgive me for noting two errors. The Old State Mutual Building (1870) in Worcester is a work of Charles B. Atwood, and is is noted as such in several of his obituaries and in the Macmillan Encyclopedia of Architects and Grove Encyclopedia of American Art. Felton Hall (1877) in Cambridge is by L. Newcomb & Son. I think this is an error of Moses King or his own sources, as the Newcombs published the building under their own name in the AA&BN in 1879, it's also included on the page for Edgar Allen Poe Newcomb as his.

Thanks for the Groton School photo gallery!

I just saw that you've been adding Peabody & Stearns attributions to various high school campuses. It's such a lovely area; in the right season it looks like its postcards.

There's really no need to go on a special trip just for Groton photos. The current photos on the Wiki page have pretty good coverage of the campus buildings - most of the P&S building exteriors (and the chapel interior) haven't changed much from the 1920s, and the only other key buildings are the Athletic Center and the Performing Arts Center, both of which probably look better from a drone than from ground level.

If you do go, two areas stick out to me for additional coverage. First, the boathouse (accessible by car) is an outstanding place to take photos of the Nashua River in all four seasons; if you saw The Holdovers you'll recognize the shot right away. Second, the Schoolhouse has some very nice interiors. The wiki page already has a photo of the study hall, but it would be worth it to take an additional photo facing the giant windows; other signature spaces are the McCormick Library, the central meeting space with the big skylight, Gammons Recital Hall, and the old-school 1940s classroom in the classics wing. But the school website's virtual tour already has everything except Gammons and the classics classroom. (See https://uploads.myschoolcdn.com/542/uploads/2016/groton_virtualtour_v2/index.html.)
