OAP

Hi Rakkar. I noticed in the O.A.P article you deleted the commentary taken from this article in the CanadianNational Post newspaper. I felt it was good to have some international perspective on the policy, which the Canadian newspaper quote provided. Was the paper's assertion that it was a popular policy an embarrassment to Australians? (I'm wondering if that was the problem.) Would it aleviate that if the line in the article said "Canada's National Post claimed that..." ? Thanks, Lester 23:44, 28 April 2008 (UTC)

Hey Lester, I agree the article would definitely benefit from some more international perspectives. Racism/immigration/multiculturalism are fairly divisive issues in Australia. Some people are for it, some are against, and for the paper to say that the OAP was popular with "ordinary" Aussies is a bit unqualified.

By ordinary, I assume the paper refers to everyone who is not a left wing pinko greenie bleeding heart "elite". But many working class Australians who were born overseas probably wouldn't support it, many employers looking for cheap labour wouldn't support it, many "ordinary" urban working class european Australians who live in multicultural areas wouldn't support it.

I agree that some of the electorate supported the policy, just that it's NNPOV & bad journalism to claim that they are "ordinary" aussies. So, I feel that it should removed from the article, but international perspectives are definitely welcome. And even as a left wing pinko greenie bleeding heart "elite" australian =) I don't mind if they are supportive of this policy (which I dislike). Message about "unconstructive"edit

Hi, you sent me a recent message stating:

"at least one of your recent edits, such as the one you made to Heroin, did not appear to be constructive and has been reverted or removed. Please use the sandbox for any test edits you would like to make, and take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. Thank you. If you notice, I undid a vandalism where someone went and changed "1874" to "1774". Bayer, the pharmaceutical company, were only formed in the mid 19th century, and the chemist who synthesized it for them did so 25 years after the original synthesis, making 1874 the consistent date. Please look up the facts before you jump accusing others of being unconstructive.

Israel

Hi, I deleted your recent addition to the Israel article. The article is already quite long, so any addition the main article should be really notable and important. Given that this is just a recent news story we cannot really say yet whether this is notable or not, after all there have been many similar stories of peace negoations that ultimately failed. Good point, it is a massive article. I just re entered a shortened version, do you think that it was too long? Thw whole article needs condensing IMO. We can put the edit in the sub article perhaps.

John Howard - racism in Australia category

Hi Rakkar, I just removed the "Racism in Australia" category from the John Howard article, which you have added twice now. That article is a BLP, and including the category implies he is racist. Please leave the category out of the article. --Surturz (talk) 05:37, 5 June 2008 (UTC)

Hi Rakkar, just friendly advice: Even if John Howard really is a heinous racist (as many commentators have implied), you should stop adding it to the article, otherwise Administrators may block you for aWP:3RR penalty. Then, you have a block to your name, which is the Wikipedia equivalent to a criminal record, which some people will refer to for years to come. I also ask Administrators to not immediately block user:Rakkar, as he may not be yet familiar with such penalties. Better to engage in dialogue first. Thanks, Lester 06:08, 5 June 2008 (UTC)

Hi all. I didn't say he was racist. I included him in a category about racism, as over his years in parliament, he had a lot to say on issues on race and immigration. It could be added to a wide rage of articles without implying that the subject racist, for instance it could apply to anti-racist groups. That is my justification for adding it, what do people think? Also, Gnan, your comment seemed a little harsh. My edit was removed with no justification, so I re-added it. Don't threaten people. --rakkar (talk) 03:28, 7 June 2008 (UTC)

Australian drug policy

Hey there.. i saw you doing work on the heroin and the IV drug use page.. (i think it was you..) hello anyway. As a long standing drug user who left australia quite a while ago, i wouldnt mind giving my 2 cents about the AU drug policy..

Use it if you like.. my opinion is very negative.

Drug policy in australia is shaped primarily by one thing, which is the massively high cost of illicit drugs. according to the UNCDP, the only place more expensive to buy heroin in the whole world is new zealand. This of course not only creates massive profit for those importing the drugs, but drives those who use them to crime in order to pay for them.

To give you an idea of how rediculous this is, Australia is one of th few countries allowed by the UNCDP to grow opium for legitimate use..(it's in Tasmania). If one can somehow get morphine on prescription, you can get the equivalent of $6-700 worth of morphine for around $2.50, which is what it actually costs to make.

In europe, for example, the situation is very different. Even in an expensive city like london, .25g costs only £10. This means that most addicts can live on the dole, or on part time work and still have a habit, instead of being forced to sell drugs or commit property crime.

As far as the clean syringes and shooting galleries, if it had not been for aids, i highly doubt they would have given them out. Also, the rules at the shooting gallery in sydney are quite prohibitive.. you cant inject anyone else, you have to use an arm, plus you know the police are watching.

Australia is a plice state, make no mistake.. I have been to russia and they do not set up checkpoints, pull you over to the side of the road, drug test you and take your DNA.

In fact, my friends in europe thought i was joking when i told them about it.

So. the setup.. as far as i know, goes like this.

After vietnam, alot of GI's came back and a few of them set up some clubs in kings cross.. i'm sure you would have heard of them. Using thier contacts in air america and such organisations, an import line was established and it was quite easy to pay off people.. or just plain kill them.. after all, these are ex-special forces ppl, some of them.

and so it goes.. most people do not even realise that thier country does not have the power to legalise a UN scheduled drug. And if you wanna ask why they would care.. it's because the UNCDP can withdraw your licence as a country to import morphine for medical use.

You may remember when howard was in power and they were going to do a trial to see if heroin subscription worked? well of course, everyone knows it works, that's not the question. Whoever was backing it.. (democrats i think) got it all the way to the upper house.. then mr howard got a visit from Pino Arlacci (sp) the then head of the UNCDP.

And of course, it was off... might give people the wrong idea.. =)

Anyway.. enough of my rambling.. it's just a subject i happen to be quite passionate about. I would be very curious to know what's changed in the scene in oz for the last 5 years.. write me back if u get some time..

hey man about how much heroin goes for,,, (your article in febuary)

I used to deal heroin and the market changes in almost every state. The two types of heroin that i dealt with were white china and Black Tar (i never really bought it or sold it my homie hooked me up once so thats really the only times i dealt with it) i got black tar for around 20 bucks a baloon which i in turn sold for 45 to 50 a baloon. I met some dealers in Cali and they could only get it for 50 bucks a baloon which i found crazy so yeah the prices are different everywhere because of the distance of the main imports of it... i hope this helped someKillTheEnemy (talk) 22:31, 7 October 2008 (UTC)
