The Road Company[edit]

Is it a realiable source? http://theroadcompany.com/ Simone Jackson (talk) 13:07, 3 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I don't think so, but you could always ask at Wikipedia:Reliable sources/Noticeboard. — R2 12:14, 3 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, thank you :-) Simone Jackson (talk) 14:39, 3 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

No problem. — R2 13:05, 3 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The Most Expensive Music Videos Ever[edit]

This is the correct list http://entertainment.uk.msn.com/music/features/gallery.aspx?cp-documentid=3917826 Simone Jackson (talk) 01:50, 5 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Crystal Castles[edit]

The sources for my edit to the Crystal Castles page are reputable. I would expect that someone as established as you would go and read all of them for yourself. Every source is a reference to an official statement made by Crystal Castles' management and an official statement which came from the owner of the Granada himself. Spikeslayer (talk) 15:09, 16 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

And the sources are not "shit," as you claim them to be on another page. Are you well-versed enough in the Dallas indie scene to know which local sources are good and which are "shit"? Feel free to point out your qualifications. Spikeslayer (talk) 18:25, 16 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

An administrator has removed your material because of a number of issues, including sourcing concerns. I'm not alone in my view. — R2 18:26, 16 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I wasn't asking about "a number of issues," I was asking about "sourcing concerns," which you completely sidestepped. Spikeslayer (talk) 18:43, 16 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I'd suggest this issue is better debated on the article's Talk page, where other, more knowledgeable and interested editors may wish to pitch in. Rodhullandemu 18:48, 16 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Fair enough. --Spikeslayer (talk) 18:51, 16 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

12 studio albums[edit]

Realist, if an album contains at least five different songs is considered a studio album. Blood on the Dance Floor is a remix album, but there are 5 new songs, Farewell My Summer Love contains all new songs. These 2 albums are studio and not compilation. Simone Jackson (talk) 20:54, 24 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

No, they were never released or promoted as studio albums, and almost all sources label Invincible as Jackson's 10th Studio album. — R2 18:55, 24 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Infact Farewell and Blood are hybrid albums, because reguraly, are half studio albums. http://www.riaa.com/goldandplatinum.php?content_selector=criteria Look this criteria. Simone Jackson (talk) 21:02, 24 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

And that just how America see's things btw. Different parts of the world will have different policies I imagine. — R2 11:20, 25 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

For this motive, i claims them like Hybrid albums and for example, count Blood on the Dance Floor in both categories, because in some countries is only a Remix album, in other (like US) is also a Studio album. Simone Jackson (talk) 15:18, 25 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

HIStory[edit]

Where is the error? I don't understand. Simone Jackson (talk) 23:24, 25 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The information you are adding is not sourced. You can't use all different sources to draw that conclusion. You need one source that says "HIStory is Jackson's 5th best selling album". — R2 01:14, 26 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

"it's Jackson's overall third best-selling recording, behind "Thriller" and "Dangerous", with 30 million copies sold.[8]" from Bad section. Also this is unsourced. Simone Jackson (talk) 14:34, 26 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Poker Face[edit]

Thanks Real. I added receptions from Slant Magazine, Allmusic, Popmatters, EW, Chicago Tribune and Rollingstones, hope they will be enough. What are you working on right now? --Legolas (talk2me) 08:43, 14 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

OK, I'll look at the references today. Not working on anything myself right now, just waiting for the GA review of one of my articles. — R2 13:47, 14 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Well I further cleaned up the article replacing those unreliable sources with better ones like MTv and Interscope records. Take a look. PS. I think you will be happy to know the amount of haters I have accumulated for being a strong hand reverter of vandalism on the Gaga articles. If I'm correct you are/were in a similar position with Britney articles isn't it? Any suggestions dude? . --Legolas (talk2me) 06:47, 15 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
If your making enemies that means your doing a good job lol. I'll take a look at "Poker Face" asap. — R2 14:18, 15 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
He he. In the meantime since you are not working on anything could you please take a look at the "True Blue" album I'm developing here? Thanks. --Legolas (talk2me) 10:04, 16 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Will try. — R2 14:16, 16 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Genre wars[edit]

Argh, MORE genre wars?! *sigh* Why is the most trivial of all things the most argued about? CarpetCrawlermessage me 06:03, 15 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

It's likely a sock puppet of another editor I know. He has an obsession with labeling Michael Jackson songs as "rock"/"hard rock", very much like this IP. — R2 06:09, 15 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
OK, then an SSP case should surely be started. I'd wait until Scarian gives your their opinion, though. This is why I try my best to ignore these genre obsessive users. :) CarpetCrawlermessage me 06:11, 15 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Have you not seen my user box and essay? I hate dislike with a mild passion all genre warriors ;O — R2 06:17, 15 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Yes I have, it's a very entertaining read. :) And also sums up why Genre warriors are just... such a pain in the rear! Have a good day! :) And you're up early! ;) Isn't it like 7:30 there? CarpetCrawlermessage me 06:20, 15 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

RE: confrontation[edit]

I wasn't interested in a confrontation, I simply want you to put your money where your mouth is, so to speak. Expecting a user to back up comments about me being "somewhat intimidating" is not, afaik, pathetic. I'm not asking for something unreasonable, simply honesty. I'm fine if the comments are offensive - if I could I'd waive WP:NPA for this - but I would like some comments, preferably ones backed up with diffs and more rational than "he gives me the willies". Ironholds (talk) 15:58, 15 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Contemporary R&B[edit]

Saw your comment on User talk:Bookkeeperoftheoccult and I'd like to lend an opinion. I think that all mention of sales should be completely removed from the article. The article is (or should be) about the genre, and not about the sales of the artist. Secondly, many of the sales figures are dubios. And thirdly, artists like Michael Jackson, Mariah Carey, Janet Jackson sing various genres including dance, rock and pop music. Orane (talk) 00:52, 17 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I'm currently open to removing all sales info, I just thought it would be easier to gain consensus on a "middle ground" option. :) — R2 00:54, 17 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
What kind of middle ground option could come out of this? A list (minus sales figures) of contemporary R&B artists and albums perhaps? You could raise the issue on the talk page and see what you come up with. But to me, sales figures seems very inappropriate. Orane (talk) 01:00, 17 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I always feel people are more prepared to agree on coming to the middle ground on an issue. Rather than an all or nothing proposal. Personally I support removing all the sales tables, I just thought I'd end up the only editor with that viewpoint. — R2 01:06, 17 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Gaga The Fame Part One[edit]

Hi. I am interested in creating an article for the video below (I would like to know if it is even worth creating one first) and if you would like to help. I have also and/or are going ask other users frequently on the article and it's extensions. I hope to hear from you.

It's a shame. But keep up the good work and you'll be a shoo in. Let me know what I can do for History... Boy, you're a big MJ fan. You and my brother would get along great. Don't care that much for him really, but I'm obsessed with a few of his songs like "Beat It", "Earth Song", "Speechless", one of his lesser popular ones called "The Lost children", and the video to "Do You Remember the Time" (esp the dance sequence, which I spent over a day learning the choreography hahha). Automatic processing of your editor review[edit]

This is an automated message. Your editor review is scheduled to be closed on 21 April 2009 because it will have been open for more than 30 days and inactive for more than 7. You can keep it open longer by posting a comment to the review page requesting more input. End of line. DustyBot (talk) 03:54, 18 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Since you indicated that you want your review open longer, I'm curious what you think should happen next. Should DustyBot send you a notice when it decides to schedule another close? Should it close the review seven days from now without notifying you first? Or, should it just leave your review alone and let you close it manually? Thanks. (Watchlisting) Wronkiew (talk) 06:01, 20 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Probably best to let me close it manually, whenever I feel ready. Can you organize that, do I have to do anything? Cheers. — R2 06:12, 20 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I can do that. I'll need to make a code change to keep it from automatically closing some reviews. Thanks for the feedback! Wronkiew (talk) 06:17, 20 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Real. I have been working on the True blue album for quite sometime. What I wanted to ask was I am facing a dilemma regarding a section on Papa Don't Preach. As you must be knowing the song was subject of controversy at its time because of its theme. I wanted to include all those reactions from groups in the album page also. But I can't think of what section title should I give. Should it be Papa Don't Preach controversy? Or anything else? Please suggest something. --Legolas (talk2me) 06:39, 21 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

OK, I'll take a look and get back to you. — R2 05:56, 22 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I think the current title is fine, titles that say "controversy" or Scandal" should be avoided altogether in my opinion. Also try not to go into too much detail on the issue. Most of it would be more relevant to the "Papa Don't Preach" article. So just sum up the issue and opinions, giving no more than 2 average sized paragraphs. Best. — R2 00:07, 23 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks Real. By the way I have nominated "Miles Away" for GA. Do you think it needs any more work? --Legolas (talk2me) 03:18, 24 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Ohhh somehow the video isnot playing at my system. Can you tell me what it is about? --Legolas (talk2me) 04:39, 24 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I believe it is the similar performance she did on American Idol. Well I saw it on a gaga fansite. Thanks for the link anyways. Tell me if anything else needs to be done for "Miles Awy". --Legolas (talk2me) 05:19, 24 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Per this, could you check to see it's not as POVish as it may have been before. I've removed or altered a lot of what was asked for in the GA review, but don't want to gloss over the facts in case it makes McCartney out to be tight with his cash. The relationship and the falling out is a big part of the company's history. Also, I think it's important to include that McCartney had two chances to purchase the company, as many people make out that Jackson stole it before McCartney could get a sniff. Anyway, trim what you feel is unneeded. I'll send it to GAN again once your done. :) Pyrrhus16 12:57, 21 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

OK, I'll take a look and get back to you. — R2 05:56, 22 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I don't see anything wrong with the article and the quick fail was completely unwarranted. — R2 03:57, 24 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, ok. Will renominate it. :) Pyrrhus16 13:58, 29 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I added the new occupation, I took the source form the article, does this mean it needs to be taken off as well??? Cloverfield Monsta (talk) 01:31, 26 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. That chord progression is present in the music sheet also. I just included the chord from ultimate-guitar since the music sheet resolution was not high. Re: Miles Away or Just Dance[edit]

Whichever one you feel like. But "Miles Away" has been nominated a few days back, so maybe that. PS Do you think I'm doing things too fast? how do you feel of my work? --Legolas (talk2me) 08:46, 29 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I don't think your going too fast, but it's certainly not the method I have. Personally I never have more than two articles at GAN at any one time, usually just one at a time. Your work is very good though. I would advise that you learn when and when not to use italics. I'm not a fan of the method you use for formatting references. Often you have a publisher and a work section. I see no need for this. You tend to wikilink the references too much in my opinion. Instead of writing BBB.co.uk just put BBC and instead of Popmatters.com just put Popmatters. I tend to do it like this, not sure if you like that method.
Generally though you are doing a great job, and I'm sorry things didn't start off well between me and you. I'll check "Miles Away" next. — R2 09:03, 29 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
OK. I'll definitely keep that in mind. Regarding formatting, actually I follow the general trned with the formatting. I see that most of the GA or FA keep a work and publisher info for references which have been published by somebody else. For eg, the Canadian Hot 100 chart is the work of Billboard but I'm using acharts for reference. Then I add that work=Billboard and publisher= acharts.us, however I get your point that I also add where its not really needed. I'll definitely keep that in mind and improve. About the way we started, lets forget that. We both have moved forward from that point of time. Cheers and thanks. --Legolas (talk2me) 09:24, 29 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I answered your concerns for Miles Away. Substituted tracklisting ref with those from ARIA and the BLP concern is addressed by "The Telegraph" which is written in a less tabloidy manner. Thanks for your valuable inputs. Fingers crossed that both of them and Just Dance passes. I have started working on "4 Minutes" now. --Legolas (talk2me) 12:21, 29 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Also do you think it is still fruitful to start the Madonna wikiproject? I have a feeling their will be contributors to the articles. At present their are total 7 Madonna articles which are GA. Since I'm developing like mad, I'm 100% sure that number will come up. So what do you say we start it? --Legolas (talk2me) 12:35, 29 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
We could do, although I'm not sure if there is enough interest. I will re propose it during the summer holiday. — R2 12:50, 29 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Flicker permissions[edit]

Hey there Realist, would you happen to know how exactly one would ask for permission to an author about using an image from Flicker onto Wikipedia? One of the PR concerns is how there really aren't any images in the article, and I found one of Collins performing on the NJR tour, but I don't know how to contact the user for permission. :-/ Do you know what I have to do? And while I'm here, what's up? :) CarpetCrawlermessage me 05:02, 30 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hey I'm not to bad, been busy (and a little drunk) these past few days, so sorry if I haven't been chatty. Your best bet is to ask User:Closedmouth. He has an account at flickr, he can ask people for their images and upload them correctly. — R2 06:58, 30 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Genre classifications?[edit]

Hi there. First I wanted to apologize for my outburst the other day. And second I wanted to ask, do we really need sources for genres for songs? I mean, one can tell just from listening to the song ("If U Seek Amy") that it isn't just a pop song, but contains elements of dance music as well. Alexander.hugh.george (talk) 08:36, 30 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, we do need to source genre (usually in the article body), otherwise it's a point of view and original research. You think one think, someone things something else. You should read WP:GWARRIOR to get an idea how problematic the info box is becoming. As for the "outburst", shit happens, don't worry about it. — R2 09:16, 30 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Check it[edit]

Torture[edit]

Hi there Realist! I was looking up information for The Jacksons' song "Torture", because I want to create the article and find enough information for a DYK? nomination. I found some VERY interesting info about how a woman was suing Jermaine because he used her ideas for the video. She sued him and the band in 1984, and as of an article from 1988, the lawsuit was still ongoing. Do you happen to know when the lawsuit case ended, and if it was settled out of court? Any help is appreciated. Thanks. :) CarpetCrawlermessage me 20:51, 2 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hey sorry. I know of the song but don't think I've ever actually listened to it. I don't know anything about it. I'm very busy in real life over the next 2-3 weeks. Don't really have time to help right know sorry. — R2 09:37, 3 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Wow, neat. Is there any way I can add it to twinkle, so I don't have to copy and paste? I issue warnings using twinkle, and select the appropriate warning from a list that pops up. — R2 15:33, 4 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
There's an ongoing discussion at WT:UTM trying to get it accepted so it can be added to TW... depends if people like the templates or not. ScarianCall me Pat! 21:04, 4 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, will check it out. — R2 22:29, 4 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

If U Seek Amy[edit]

I don't use multiple IPs. The dorm internet connection is so bad that I have to constantly reset the modem, which resets my IP. As for "getting myself a new hobby", why don't you stop including stupid, worthless information in articles- "The music video was originally planned to begin shooting on February 10, 2009, but instead began filming on February 7, 2009" - WHO THE FUCK CARES when it was supposed to begin shooting? This information should NOT be in an encyclopedia article! You and your pretentious formatted username, "R^2". Any other decent common-sense editor would've let my edit be, but as you've taken a stand on the issue, they're all rowing in behind you on this "consensus" equivocation. I'm not buying it. The date that the music video was planned to begin shooting is utterly irrelevant to everyone.--86.41.161.29 (talk) 00:58, 5 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Janet Jackson 'Rhythm Nation' single Australian chart peak[edit]

There is no online reference for Janet's Australian ARIA Chart 'Rhythm Nation' singles chart peak, other than a thread discussing chart peaks beyond #50 here:

http://australian-charts.com/forum.asp?id=16875&todo=viewthread

Scroll down to bulion's 23/01/2009 11:27 post to see that it peaked at #56.

A database of ARIA Chart Top 50 singles peaks is available at http://australian-charts.com, but it does not go beyond #50. ARIA made top 50 charts available to the public via printed charts available in record stores. The full top 100 was available only though subscription, commencing 14 Jan 1990. Rhythm Nation was still charting (below its peak) at this time, but the HP (highest position) is also displayed on these charts and it states 56. The forum user 'bulion' is currently compiling an official ARIA chart book. I am (or was, from the late 80s until the late 90s) an Australian chart enthusiast/'expert' myself, but understand your insistence on including a reference since anyone can write anything on wikipedia.

I'm going to place the chart peak back into the article; you're welcome to add the reference if you desire (I would do it myself but I'm not yet so skilled at doing so). The formal reference for the subscription charts (as available in several State Libraries in Australia) is:

"The ARIA Report: ARIA chart", the Australian Record Industry Association Ltd.

update - lo and behold, there is a website with Janet's Oz singles chart peaks: http://www.mjjcharts.com/Aussiejanet.htm , which match the ARIA Chart peaks. I also corrected the 'Come Back to Me' & 'State of the World' Aus chart peaks to match the ARIA Chart. The previous peaks for those 2 singles listed was from the alternative Kent Report chart which ARIA stopped licensing in June 1988 FYI.
