Regarding...[edit]

...this,[1] "what's wrong with us people" is that we were not aware that the OP was an LTA. Given that, though, it would be better to just delete it. ←Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots→ 19:49, 4 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Notice of edit warring noticeboard discussion[edit]

Information icon Hello. This message is being sent to inform you that there is currently a discussion involving you at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Edit warring regarding a possible violation of Wikipedia's policy on edit warring. The thread is Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Edit warring#User:Viennese Waltz reported by 91.125.11.18 (Result: ). Thank you. EN-Jungwon 12:03, 29 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Consensus[edit]

I do not wish to continue the disagreement at the ref desk, but I think it is really a poor idea to be giving people advice that directly conflicts with core policy. --JBL (talk) 14:05, 24 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Warning[edit]

You have been editing here long enough to know that you are not to remove another editors post from ref desks or any talk page. MarnetteD|Talk 22:42, 2 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Viennese Waltz, the post you removed twice is not the same as the one posted by the banned user (though it contains the same information, in addition to more information). ---Sluzzelin talk 22:44, 2 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
The banned user's post is here. MarnetteD's post is here. You can't just add your own text to text already posted by a banned user and make it look like you wrote the whole thing when you only wrote part of it, even if you think the earlier part is germane to the discussion. You should have left the part by the banned user deleted and made a new post with your part only. --Viennese Waltz 22:52, 2 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Wrong-o. MarnetteD|Talk 22:54, 2 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
(oops, edit-conflict and confused editing, sorry). In fact, that's the way it's handled when banned users make correct and improving changes to articles. One is allowed to revert on sight, but another editor is allowed to restore the improved version. By doing so, that other editor owns the edit and is responsible for it. Same here: MarnetteD signed it and owns it. ---Sluzzelin talk 22:56, 2 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Indonesian government fixation IP user...[edit]

Hey, I know this is one of our regular RD trolls, but you mentioned a few days back they were a blocked/banned user. Can you point me to the LTA, SPI, or master account I can tie them all too? Thanks! --Jayron32 16:07, 31 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding...[edit]

...this,[2] it seems likely that this "incoherent rant" was produced by the same Angelino who asked the question in the first place. Which raises the question of whether the section should be boxed or maybe zapped altogether, as per discussion on the ref desk talk page, about how to handle trolling. ←Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots→ 10:04, 14 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Do as you wish. --Viennese Waltz 13:01, 14 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Not sure what could be done, but I wonder if the poster is related to this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Reference_desk/Archives/Language/2021_December_10#Why_the_pronoun_%22Hers%22_is_rarely_used? Or this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Reference_desk/Archives/Language/2022_May_7#Hers_is_severely_underutilized --User:Khajidha (talk) (contributions) 18:14, 15 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

"Banned user"[edit]

You closed two questions on WP:RD/H recently as being from a "banned user". I point out that there are two other questions from the same IP address currently still on the page. User bans are not a subject I have anything to do with, but I thought I'd mention it.

There is no need to respond to me about this. --174.89.144.126 (talk) 09:04, 19 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Banned user at RDH[edit]

Whodat? Can't seem to place them. Thanks. Jayron32 13:23, 21 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Refdesk: Humanities edit[edit]

You removed what appeared to be a somewhat rambling but good-faith comment in RefDesk:Humanities with an edit summary that seemed to be completely irrelevant. Perhaps the summary made sense to those in the know, but I reverted it based on what I could see. Please feel free to revert my edit with a clearer explanation. Matt's talk 09:00, 29 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Refdesk: Miscellaneous edit[edit]

Please explain why you reverted my response. When banks and shops DO post notices that staff do not have cash, one reason is to protect their staff from robbery attempts. Philvoids (talk) 01:09, 1 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

June 2023[edit]

Information icon Hello. This is a message to let you know that one or more of your recent contributions did not appear to be constructive and have been reverted. Please take some time to familiarise yourself with our policies and guidelines. You can find information about these at our welcome page which also provides further information about contributing constructively to this encyclopedia. If you only meant to make test edits, please use your sandbox for that. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you may leave a message on my talk page. Thank you. Not a "banned user".[edit]

Please be careful about hatting off banned users, you have included me in the hat and I'm not banned. Going forward which do you think is best? (1) Delete my contribution or (2) move it outside the hat. Regards, Martin of Sheffield (talk) 16:29, 2 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there. Of course, I know you're not banned. It just seemed weird to hat off the banned user's post but not yours. I didn't want to delete your contribution, so my solution seemed best, but I'll move it outside the hat as you suggest. Regards, --Viennese Waltz 16:35, 2 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, I'd have done it myself but don't like reverting the actions of experienced editors without a discussion first. Regards, Martin of Sheffield (talk) 16:51, 2 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Please don't prematurely close constructive discussions[edit]

I reverted your change here (as well as your earlier related change) because I see no reason for it, given that the discussion there was well-intended and constructive. Your action seems to be in direct violation of our guideline Wikipedia:Talk page guidelines#Marking a closed discussion, which limits such closures only to “particular[ly] unconstructive” edits. If you have any other reason than IDONTLIKEIT, please explain. ◅ Sebastian Helm 🗨 08:53, 26 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The discussion was started by a banned user. Therefore, it could not be allowed to continue. Best wishes, --Viennese Waltz 08:55, 26 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Please don't make up your own policies. Simply repeating your personal opinion doesn't make it a policy. You seem to have a history of such unconstructive editing, so consider this a warning: If you don't read and follow our policies. you may get blocked or banned yourself. ◅ Sebastian Helm 🗨 09:11, 26 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Banned users are not allowed to edit, see here. It's been a long-standing practice with regards to enforcing this ban on this particular user on the ref desks that his contributions are deleted on sight, or, as in this case where good faith responses are received before another editor has deleted the initial contribuition, to box the thread up. Best wishes, --Viennese Waltz 09:18, 26 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I brought this up at AN. ◅ Sebastian Helm 🗨 18:04, 26 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Where it was properly smacked down. It's strange that an admin would be so ignorant of policy. ←Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots→ 13:51, 28 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Indeed. We are both apparently "on a vindictive agenda". I also received a warning – my first in 17 years as a Wikipedia editor – and was informed that I apparently "have a history of unconstructive editing". I would like to know User:SebastianHelm's thoughts on the matter now, and whether he would like to retract any of his earlier statements. --Viennese Waltz 14:18, 28 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It's been over 3 weeks since he made an appearance. Maybe got scared away? ←Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots→ 01:22, 18 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I know, I've been wondering the same myself. He's had breaks from posting before but never for this long. Just goes to show that you don't mess with BB and VW :) Best wishes, --Viennese Waltz 06:40, 18 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
