About redirecting newborn to infant

Hi buddy. I think there is a distinct difference between these tow concepts. However in medicine there is a well-defined topic for newborns (neonates) that include infants below 28 day old. This period is one of the most important period of human life. You can search in Google Image for two concepts an see different results. I'm not a native English Speaker but I'm a physician and I think we should have a independent entry for newborn in Wikipedia. Tell me your opinions. Many thanks.غلامرضا باقری (talk) 16:41, 25 July 2013 (UTC)

Hi, thanks for writing. Yes, the two words have different meanings, and yes, the word neonate should probably have a distinct article. I made neonate a redirect to infant because the neonate article had only one sentence, and it is the same information that is in the second paragraph of the infant article. At the moment, the infant article has more information about neonates and early human development than did the neonate article. If someone writes a new neonate article, I expect that readers and editors will welcome it. Ringbang (talk) 18:14, 25 July 2013 (UTC)
Many thanks for your complete explanation. What's your opinion about title of the entry, neonate or newborn? غلامرضا باقری (talk) 19:20, 25 July 2013 (UTC)
Hello. If the article is about human infants only, then my opinion is that neonate is better. What do you think? Ringbang (talk) 20:23, 25 July 2013 (UTC)
Yes the article should be about human infants only, I think newborn is a public and common term that be used by people for this concept but the neonate is a medical term that not be used publicly. Goggling of these terms verify this point. then I think newborn is a better title. what do you think? غلامرضا باقری (talk) 00:16, 26 July 2013 (UTC)
That is good reasoning; I agree with you. Of course, both terms would take the user to the same article. Previously, I considered redirecting to neonate from newborn to allow for the possibility of creating a newborn article that is about early development of human and non-human animals. However, after more consideration I don't think this should be a factor in naming the present article. I vote for newborn. Thank you for your attending to this important article! Autopatrolled

Hello, this is just to let you know that I have granted you the "autopatrolled" permission. This won't affect your editing, it just automatically marks any page you create as patrolled, benefiting new page patrollers. Please remember:

  • This permission does not give you any special status or authority
  • Submission of inappropriate material may lead to its removal
  • You may wish to display the {{Autopatrolled}} top icon and/or the {{User wikipedia/autopatrolled}} userbox on your user page
  • If, for any reason, you decide you do not want the permission, let me know and I can remove it
If you have any questions about the permission, don't hesitate to ask. Otherwise, happy editing!  Wifione Message 04:10, 4 December 2013 (UTC)

Vanuatu

I just saw your edits to Vanuatu. I wonder why you feel the quotes are necessary around "Espirito Santo". It is just a name of a place, not a foreign word in isolation. Also, do you really think a link is necessary for "Holy Spirit" in an article about a South Pacific island? In WP:Overlink it says links should not be added for commonly used words and phrases. I'm open to persuasion, but I'm interested in why you think the link is appropriate. Finally, I think "the Spanish term for" is more elegant than "Spanish for". It is clear that we do not agree on all three parts of the edit. Rather than simply revert with a three-word edit summary, I thought I'd ask for your thoughts.CorinneSD (talk) 05:08, 14 December 2013 (UTC)

Tintin

Hello Ringbang, I wonder if you are interested in working from time to time on the Tintin articles? I am looking for another editor to work with. I and another editor are just finishing the Tintin (character) article and I am started the Snowy (character) article next. Prhartcom (talk) 04:42, 6 January 2014 (UTC)

Hi Ringbang, what needs to be done is a complete re-write of the entire Snowy article, just as I re-wrote the Tintin article, this time ensuring every sentence is backed up, not by original research, but by reliable sources. I have several Tintin books and I have started rewriting the article already (in my sandbox). I don't suppose you have any Tintin books, but maybe you can help in other ways; i.e. copyedit after I finish putting the first draft together. Prhartcom (talk) 22:33, 6 January 2014 (UTC)
Cool, just drop me a line when you'd like me to take a look. Ringbang (talk) 22:34, 7 January 2014 (UTC)

Alcohol inhalation

Hello, Ringbang! I see that you re-titled this article. Originally called Alcohol Without Liquid, it was moved during the AfD discussion to Alcohol inhalation. You then moved it again, to Inhalation of alcohol vapor. I personally preferred the title Alcohol inhalation and have started a discussion at the talk page about what to call it. Your input is solicited. --MelanieN (talk) 18:25, 23 January 2014 (UTC)

The article Tamakeri (video game) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

No evidence of notability. No independent references.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. ~KvnG 15:50, 6 May 2014 (UTC)

Windows Server 2008

Hi.

Windows Server 2008 still needs more footnotes. So, if you are planning to remove the maintenance template, please add all the needed footnotes. (Actually, this is quite an ordeal.)

Also, you removed a mandatory |name= from the infobox. I really hope this was a mistake because such removals gives us no end of troubles.

Best regards,
Codename Lisa (talk) 21:12, 2 September 2014 (UTC)

Hi there,
From the "When to use" section of Template:No footnotes:
"Use this template to indicate that there are currently zero inline citations in the article. For articles with both inline citations and a list of general references, use {{more footnotes}} instead. For articles that do not contain general references, but which need a greater number of citations, use {{refimprove}}."
Concerning the infobox: The template is programmed so that in the absence of the name field it inherits the name of the article. What do you mean by "no end of troubles"? Ringbang (talk) 04:02, 3 September 2014 (UTC)
The template on the article is {{More footnotes}}, not {{No footnotes}}.
|name= is used for creating HTML IDs, anchors, reference to an external source for acquiring versioning info (not in this case) and generally a mandatory unique guaranteed-to-exist ID should the future template development needed it. Long story short: It is the only mandatory parameter for the infobox.
Best regards, Codename Lisa (talk) 04:00, 4 September 2014 (UTC)
Right, fair enough then. Ringbang (talk) 06:03, 4 September 2014 (UTC)

Redondo Loves Wikipedia (2/14), Wik-Ed Women (2/17), and Unforgetting LA at the Getty (2/21)!

Dear fellow Wikipedian,

The LA Wikipedia community has three events in mid-February -- please consider attending!

First, we have a Valentine's Day edit-a-thon appropriately named Redondo Loves Wikipedia, which will take place at the Redondo Beach Public Library from 10am to 1pm on Saturday, February 14. Join library staff, the Redondo Beach Historical Society, and others to help improve Wikipedia's coverage of Redondo Beach!

Second, we have a Wik-Ed Women editing session on Tuesday, February 17 from 6pm to 10pm at the Los Angeles Contemporary Archive downtown. This series of informal get-togethers is designed to encourage Los Angeles women-in-the-arts (though all are welcome!) to contribute their expertise to Wikipedia, specifically expanding content about women artists.

Third, we have an Unforgetting LA event put on by East of Borneo in collaboration with the Getty Research Institute. Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Capitalization of Japanese titles

Hi, I noticed that you've moved some articles with Japanese titles. The Manual of Style says to use capital letters in romanizations of Japanese media titles - so Cleopatra no Mahō should be used rather than Cleopatra no mahō. If you do have a good reason for moving it to the latter, I suggest starting a discussion thread on Wikipedia talk:Manual of Style/Japan-related articles and seeing if you can get consensus to do the change.--IDVtalk 00:13, 7 April 2016 (UTC)

@IDV: Oops, thanks for the heads-up, and for reverting the moves. —Ringbang (talk) 00:33, 7 April 2016 (UTC)
No problem.--IDVtalk 00:33, 7 April 2016 (UTC)

Megan Follows

Internet Movie Database is general ref for filmography, and refs in articles of TV shows and movies. --Alrofficial (talk) 19:17, 8 April 2016 (UTC)

Hi @Alrofficial:, IMDb is not a citable source. Content that cites IMDb is still considered unverified. —Ringbang (talk) 19:22, 8 April 2016 (UTC)

Brian Banks (politician)

You have repeatedly removed material that is explicitly attributed to a reliable, published source. The items being removed are major points of discussion regarding this politician and have been widely discussed by reliable media sources . Norris.michaelj (talk) 16:13, 11 April 2016 (UTC)

Hi @Norris.michaelj: You're right: Most of the sources in the removed content are citable, and it is permissible to document unfavourable information about living public figures (when that information is appropriate for an encyclopedia article). At the same time, while documenting this information it is essential to maintain a neutral point of view. Consider this explanation from the policy page:

'Biographies of living persons ("BLPs") must be written conservatively and with regard for the subject's privacy. Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, not a tabloid: it is not Wikipedia's job to be sensationalist, or to be the primary vehicle for the spread of titillating claims about people's lives; the possibility of harm to living subjects must always be considered when exercising editorial judgment.'

When I assessed the article, its content was clearly about impressing on readers a particular view of Banks and his character (and it still is). It is entirely possible to describe the events dispassionately, and to make conscientious choices about what information belongs in an encyclopedia. My removal of certain passages was not an attempt to whitewash or to suppress information: It was mitigation of a neutrality problem. Per WP:CRITS:

'An article dedicated to negative criticism of a topic is usually discouraged because it tends to be a point-of-view fork, which is generally prohibited by the neutral point-of-view policy.'

The sources you chose are good ones, and usable (although the summing of civil judgements and reporting on a Michigan Bar search constitute original research, and should not be included). Local news sources could be used to write a great article. There is plenty of information to draw on; but the article does need to be rewritten. —Ringbang (talk) 18:45, 11 April 2016 (UTC)

@Ringbang Thanks for the explanation. I will attempt to rewrite the removed parts of the article, again. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, as I have tried to remove any opinion while still reporting the facts. My interest is to provide complete, concise information so that those looking for information about the candidates can get it. @norris.michaelj
@Norris.michaelj: Thank you! Sounds great. I'm grateful for your civic responsibility. Some things to remember: What you write may remain online for many years. It will also be copied by other websites. To some extent, you are taking on the responsibility of being Brian Banks' biographer; the story you are writing is a miniature biography; the story of a person's life.

For this article, you can organize a lot of the information into a chronological retelling of events. When writing about the "bad" stuff (embarrassing or damning information from the press), it's best not to put it all in one part of the article. Weave it throughout so that everything comes up at a sensible time for the progression of the story. The story could also describe what Banks is doing in office. It's neither an endorsement nor a condemnation: just reporting what happened the best you can with the information available. That said, there are no obligations about how much you do—this is voluntary, after all. —Ringbang (talk) 04:33, 14 April 2016 (UTC)

Microaggression

I was just looking at the Microaggression talk page and noticed a Move proposal there. Looking at the history to see whether that had ever been followed up on, I noticed that it was originally at Microagression, which is where the commenters want to move it now, and you moved it to Microaggression theory, so I thought you might have some input into the discussion. Request on 03:28:28, 16 April 2016 for assistance on AfC submission by Justin Jaron Lewis

Are you sure the article I submitted does not meet the criteria? While I included several links to the subject's own website, the source references are to two separate newspaper/magazine articles and two different published books. If this isn't enough can you please be more specific about what would be enough - how many sources or what kind of sources? Thank you.

Justin Jaron Lewis (talk) 03:28, 16 April 2016 (UTC)

@Justin Jaron Lewis: Hi, it would have made things clearer if I had included some additional notes in the review; I apologise for not doing so. I've added comments about my conclusion to Draft talk:Yitzhak Buxbaum. —Ringbang (talk) 16:15, 16 April 2016 (UTC)

Hi Ringbang,

thanks for caring, any idea how to improve? I cannot make out the remark on emtpy ref tags ... what did I miss thx ! Anp275 (talk) 13:50, 17 April 2016 (UTC)

@Anp275: Before anything else, if this an article about yourself, you must disclose that. It's best if you don't continue to attempt to submit the article if it is about yourself (see Wikipedia:Autobiography). The error you saw is caused by an empty citation. (I fixed it.) 02:57:40, 17 April 2016 review of submission by Andykay71

I am requesting a review because I don't see how I have not provided significant coverage of the film from reliable sources to prove its notability. The film features three internationally known actors in Jean-Marc Barr, Radha Mitchell and Jane Birkin. The film is based on a story by a significant American author, Raymond Carver. On top of this, I have cited reliable sources (such as The Sydney Morning Herald, Filmink Magazine, IMDB and Combustible Celluloid) that are all independent of the subject. If you have a specific issues with the article, I would appreciate your feedback. Thank you. Andykay71 (talk) 02:57, 17 April 2016 (UTC)

Hi Ringbang, updated and added references. (Noted, that I had not included the links ...)

please have a look again. Anp275 (talk) 13:27, 19 April 2016 (UTC)

thanks for fixing ! and .. noo ;) .. not about myself.. no way. Anp275 (talk) 13:31, 19 April 2016 (UTC) actually, indeed about someone whom I had the luck to meet, and by whom I was deeply impressed, science-wise, because he has been a "mover" in many fields of space-related work, as well as personality-wise. Anp275 (talk) 13:38, 19 April 2016 (UTC)

ok, I seriously need help. What is a reliable and independent source, other than universities and institutions? can you give some advice to me newbie-wiki on what is wrong ? thanks! Anp275 (talk) 15:50, 19 April 2016 (UTC)

@Anp275: I'm sorry, but you do not seem to qualify per WP:PROF. —Ringbang (talk) 16:11, 19 April 2016 (UTC)

aha. I had used the criteria of "editor in chief of a scientific journal" (that explicitly being mentioned as a criterion) of AARev, and really important contributions to spectroscopy and calibration of spacecraft ... together with a number of analogous pages ... (there seem to be some out there), --- additionally, probably having been ESA science director is seen as less influential than being NASA science director ... but nevertheless, I'll give up, you're the editor. thanks. Hello Ringbang, I found article Cropio to be declined, because it doesn't have reliable sources. But how about agriculture.com, agfundernews.com, capterra.com, Bonduelle's annual report? These are international, independent sources.

But how do you identify them as paid? Those are independent sites. They don't even have paid section. Their Alexa ratings are good as well. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 193.93.77.216 (talk) 14:35, 20 April 2016 (UTC)

16:16, 20 April 2016 review of submission by Carrieruggieri

Dear Ringing, you recently declined my draft because the references are primary sources. Yes, some are primary sources so that the reader can go the the primary source to verify that the information I am conveying in my own words is accurate to the primary source. I also have secondary sources and third party sources which confirm the content, meaning and notability of the topic. My previous draft was declined because I had too many references. Also I intentionally created the table of contents so that the editors can see that what is written is only a lead paragraph, and it is necessary to chose carefully the content in order to make it both readable, understandable and a concise abstract of what is to come. If writing from the vantage point of third party references only, it would be impossible to explain this very complex topic. Carrieruggieri (talk) 16:16, 20 April 2016 (UTC)
